Hello, What i will advise the poster is to get a Q.S that will be vetting his quotations. Getting this kind of advices on nairaland is like trying to avoid paying proffessionals who are suppose to do this job. Proffessionals in the house let stop giving this kind of advises on nairaland, because if we are not careful a lot of us will taken out of our proffessions just like the architects are doing to builders these days. |

I think people should cross check their facts before making frivolous response. Number one, i did not mention 1.5 million, i quoted 1.15. You can then go to the market and cross check a truck making six trips in a month to different locations from ekiti to either port harcourt, abuja, benin or lagos. check what the price will come to if you are hiring a truck. I think people should mind the way they use that parlance called 419. |

jumyg, I am not a Q.S but a builder. Before i can give anybody the cost of constructing a building, i have to have the relevant drawings e.g architectural, structural mechanical and electrical drawing. Invariably, what i am saying is that once you buy your land an have made up your mind the type of building you want to have, the best thing for you to do is to call the necesary proffesionals to give you your designs so that you can have the correct cost. This is also advantageous in the management of cost in the sense that, once you have the required proffessionals on your site, they serve as checks and balances for each other. The structural engineer monitors the placements of reinforcement, the architects ensures the aethetics aspect of the house is maitained and specifications are followed, while the Q.S ensures that all this is achieved at the right cost. Its time for clients to stop being penny wise and pound foolish. Because all these are not ensured gives the reasons for collapsed building we are having every where. |
I beg to dis agree with all of you. I will only accept that this is correct untill a quantity surveyor says so. The architect says 1.3million. when did he turned a Q.S. i beg to say that architects are the ones destroying building industry when they started design and build a house. where is proffessionalism. Lets stop this idea of usurping other position in this industry especially the architects. |
Costing a building or assuming cost for a building in my own view might not be correct because a lot of factors come to play. A lot of things have to be taken into consideration which can only be achieved when the right steps are taken. Before one can cost a building, the designs must have been in place in which the condition of the land in terms of torpography, nature of the land must have been known. the condition of the land determines sometime the safety factor which must be considered especially in the structural design and this affects the cost. For anybody intending to develop a building, the first thing to be done after buying the land and perfecting the title is to get a consultant to come up with the drawings and after this is done he/she passes the drawings (architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical drawings) to the quantity surveyor to come up with the cost. with these, you can be rest assured that you have a detailed cost in which you are sure of can only change if there are changes in the design.
