Politics / Re: Nigerian Athlete Making Us Proud In The U.S. by tosyn92: 12:27am On May 01, 2011
I watched it on ESPN. He's really proud of his Nigerian heritage. I thought he would be drafted in the top 10 though.
Other Nigerians that were drafted include BEN IJALANA from Villanova, SAM ACHO from Texas and CHIMDI CHEKWA from Ohio State.

all these monstrous buildings serving as bank branches are crass.can't we have simple bank halls replicated around the corner to reduce everyone gathering at a spot to admire your fine interiors and waste half of our days?
do we really need these monstrous buildings that look like covens as bank branches?when the service inside is c rap?
is it not a waste of resources?

My thoughts exactly. Many of the banks I've visited here in the U.S are not as extravagant as the once in Nigeria, but their services are 10 times better. I still operate my NYSC GTB account from here in the U.S, and I usually call the customer service line once in a while. I Can tell you that the difference is as clear as daylight! Many Nigerian customer service reps always sound angry, and more often than not, they think they are doing you favour. To say the least, customer service in Nigerian banks is nothing to write home about.

Business / Cbn Governor Named In Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People In The World by tosyn92: 8:56pm On Apr 21, 2011
CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has been named as Time Magazine's 100 most influential people in the world. According to the magazine;

"A veteran of an often corrupt banking industry, Sanusi, 49, took up his position at the height of the financial crisis in June 2009 and immediately turned on his former peers. He took over nine banks, sacked the chief executives of eight of them, ordered a series of mergers and named their biggest debtors. He was, he said, cleaning up not just banking but all Nigeria. Sanusi's will be a long fight and a dangerous one: death threats have obliged him to employ armed guards. But it is also essential for Africa's sleeping giant to finally awaken".

The full list include other influential people likeGerman Chancellor  Angella Merkel, U.S Vice President Joe Biden, Oprah Winfrey, The Obamas, Hillary Clinton, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Lionell Messi, etc.

Crime / 26 Nigerians Arrested For Identity Theft In New York! by tosyn92: 1:02pm On Jun 17, 2010
26 Are Accused of Identity Theft
By KAREN ZRAICK

A Staten Island-based ring of Nigerian immigrants was charged with gaining access to the personal and financial information of at least 200 people, including active-duty members of the armed forces, and using it to steal in excess of $5 million before the scheme was stopped, officials announced on Wednesday.

The ringleaders recruited other low-level conspirators in five states, as well as in Nigeria, to launder stolen or forged checks, use credit cards and pick up mail, in exchange for a cut of the profit, officials said.

The list of victims included 27 banks and 20 members of the armed forces based in Fort Hood, Tex., including some who were serving in Iraq or Afghanistan at the time of the thefts.

“It takes a certain type of detached cruelty to victimize people in this way,” said Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, who added that one member of the service returned home from duty for Christmas only to find his bank account cleared out.

After raids early Tuesday morning on private homes in Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens, 26 people were arrested. A total of 33 people were indicted; 16 on felony charges of enterprise corruption; the others on lesser charges, including grand larceny. Seven of the indicted remained at large, the authorities said, and the investigation was continuing.

The ringleaders were identified as Kazeem Badru, 38; Ganiu Rilwan, 46; and Okoronkwo Okechukwu, 32.

The thieves acquired some of the financial data by stealing mail, said Daniel M. Donovan Jr., the Staten Island district attorney. He urged residents to lock their mailboxes, monitor their credit reports and alert the police to any instance of identity theft.

Education / Re: Governor's Brother Is State University VC: Only In Nigeria by tosyn92: 4:24am On Feb 05, 2010
You guys shouldn't just jump to conclusions without understanding the issue on ground.
I know what I'm talking about because I finished from the school. Like someone mentioned before, this same Mimiko was appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor by Agagu's government. He is more than qualified for the job and I'm quite certain that he would have emerged as the VC even if his brother is not the governor.
Blood relationship with a government official should not automatically entitle anyone for a position he is not qualified for. on the other hand, blood relationship should not automatically disqualify someone if he is eminently qualified for such position. To demand such will amount to hypocrisy and reverse-nepotism.
BTW, I'm not a supporter of either Olufemi or Olusegun Mimiko, just an objective observer.
Nairaland / General / Beating Lagos Traffic by tosyn92: 7:28pm On Oct 11, 2009
Beating Lagos traffic

1. Never try to understand what is causing the traffic. It is not only a fruitless exercise; those who have done so have only got more confused. Those who don’t bother find out as they make their way through the bottleneck that it is not necessarily caused by anything. It just happens.

2. When caught in impossible traffic, don’t waste time trying to rush out. Why raise your blood pressure for nothing? The best way out is to combat madness with more madness: get on top of your car and sing: I Believe I can Fly. You would not only have helped yourself relieve stress, you would also have provided an invaluable side attraction to other motorists who are equally tensed up.

3. If the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority or other traffic officers apprehend you for trying to beat the traffic illegally, don’t argue. Take out your phone and pretend you are calling Governor Fashola or the Commissioner of Police. Chances are that the poor guys will very likely be intimidated. God help you if they realise you are merely  posturing.

4. When the traffic seems intractable and you just need to move, get out of the car and jump on an ‘Okada.’ In fact, in Lagos traffic, you are better off without a car. Simply look for an Okada rider with kamikaze riding skills. Close your eyes and start reciting the Psalms. This has a double advantage: if something happens, you won’t even know (your eyes are closed, remember?); if nothing happens, you would still have prayed (which you would otherwise not have done anyway). The commercial motorcycle operators give one a chance to be closer to God than any sermon on a boring Sunday.

5. Rather than complain about potholes and craters on the road, be thankful that at least the bumps and jumps help your blood circulation. Plus the bones really rattle. It might be your only chance to develop some flexibility for that dance reality show you’ve always wanted to be a part of.

6. On some days, time really passes by slowly when you are in the traffic, so it would be helpful to take interest in hawkers selling anything from ante-natal books to a butcher’s knife. Ask for the price of the ‘Tommy Hilfiger’ shirt he is waving in your face. Whatever he says, slash it by at least 80 per cent. He will cajole and plead. By the time he begins to ‘take God beg you’, let him go. What is likely to follow is an insult.

Whatever you do, don’t let Lagos traffic wear you out. Pretend it doesn’t matter. After all, when the traffic gets tough, the tough gets going.

I attended Christ School, Ado-Ekiti   (Up School!!!)
here's our school anthem:

Christ School the place amongst mountains
The only child of Dalimore
Born in year 1933
Birds, angels & mountains sing our song

Chorus:
Christ's school, the name so lovely
Christ's school, the place so lovely
Christ's school, the school that comes on top.

Christ school the one the sets the pace
In games, sports, knowledge and morality
And for academic encouragement
Everybody is proud of us.

Repeat Chorus

We look up to God for grace and favour
In Him alone we trust,
The golden banner, victory through Christ
Shall save us from danger great or small

Repeat Chorus.
