An ibo guy confessed the superiority of yorubas in ICTI can't help but notice the Yoruba domination of Nigeria's growing IT sector. For those who don't know, It meant Information Technology. More than 80% of the country's new start up programmes, media houses, Websites, Newest innovations in ICT, E-commerce (Jumia, Deal Dey, Jobberman, Konga and the rest Etc)and especially the computer based Information technology sector have some form of Yoruba presence.
I am not cooking this up, I am talking from real experience here as I work in this sector, most of my good friends and co-workers are Yoruba, same goes for most other tech companies and startups, including those getting massive endorsements and money from abroad. While I don't think this is a bad thing I am just interested in knowing why and/or how come? Another prove ; https://www.nairaland.com/3323340/yorubas-best-science-technology-ict |

Finally, unraveling the big player and real owners, developers of Lagos When I see your people claiming they developed and own Lagos, I just shake my head at their stüpidity and ignorance. Anyway, Let's look into the top players in the real estate industry of Lagos:

IMPORTED CARS AND MOTORS My brother, you are not far from the truth Here is the prove to that abeg Innoson Motors lays off 50 percent of workers By News Express on 14/01/2016
Share on inShare

Nigeria’s pioneer indigenous vehicle manufacturing company, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited, has laid off about 50 percent of its work force, News Express learnt.
A source close to the company blamed the development on a combination of declining patronage by government, high cost of the dollar and difficulty in procuring foreign exchange for imported vehicle components.
Whereas the immediate past Federal Government of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and Anambra State Government under Mr. Peter Obi encouraged and patronised Innoson, the reverse is the case presently, with the incumbent Anambra State Government under the watch of Chief Willie Obiano preferring to import vehicles from the USA and elsewhere.
“Things are no longer the same at Innoson and the vehicle plant at Nnewi has laid off about 50% of the workers,” the source said.
The source also disclosed that Innoson Technical & Industrial Co. Ltd., producers of motorcycle parts and plastic products, has cut staff by some 25%. He said that Company Chairman, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, started the retrenchment exercise from the Emene plant in Enugu State.
The source told News Express: “Mr. Chukwuma addressed the staff late in July and announced that because of the bad shape of the economy, 25% of the staff would have to go home and wait till December when they would be recalled if things improved. The next day the list of affected staff was released and they had to go home after collecting their July salary. Of course, no one has been recalled because, rather than improve, the economy has become even worse since then.”

SHOWROOM.NG’S AMBITION TO FURNISH NIGERIAN HOMES AND MAKE 100K CARPENTERS MILLIONAIRES BY 2020
When former Konga Business Analyst, Sheriff Shittu, moved from the Ikorodu area of Lagos, to the highbrow Lekki, it wasn’t without its challenges. As a home decor enthusiast, Shittu had managed to amass an impressive collection of quality furniture designs. One big challenge however was finding competent and trusted furniture makers in a relatively unknown area who could accurately replicate designs from his collection.
https://techngstore.blob.core.windows.net/main/2015/08/techpoint-27-of-27.jpg
Shittu’s experience is not isolated, as it is one of the problems anyone who has tried to do a furniture overhaul may have faced. Being the serial entrepreneur that he is, Shittu became motivated to become the solution to the problem. Hence, Showroom.ng was birthed.
Showroom’s Value Proposition Showroom.ng is simply a curated marketplace of furniture design references. As such, it serves two customer segments – furniture makers and furniture buyers. Showroom.ng engages awesome and trusted furniture makers, who otherwise would not have access to these customers who are willing to pay well for value. The furniture makers pay Showroom.ng a commission in return for a steady stream of customers.
https://techngstore.blob.core.windows.net/main/2015/08/techpoint-23-of-27.jpg
From the comfort of their homes, users can choose from a selection of design references and have the furniture delivered in as little as 24 hours – for ready-made orders – to within 10 and 17 days for custom orders.
You do not have to worry about chasing the carpenter around and whatever you see in the pictures is what you get”, Shittu assures. “Our goal is that you do not have to break your bank to gain access to the quality furniture.
https://techngstore.blob.core.windows.net/main/2015/08/techpoint-9-of-27-1024x683.jpg
https://techngstore.blob.core.windows.net/main/2015/08/techpoint-1-of-27.jpg
Throughout the process of customizing the order, the startup keeps communication lines – email, WhatsApp, calls – open with the customer, in a bid to deliver exactly what they are looking for, a process which is being optimized. “And if whatever we offer you doesn’t match your quality expectations, we guarantee your money back”.
The demand and potential
In barely 6 months since Showroom.ng launched as beta in February, the startup has experienced steady incremental growth. Within 3 days of launching, they had their first order. More orders followed in subsequent days – more than enough validation that the idea actually works. |

We talking BIG the'yall tallking nonsense Music, grammy & Yoruba dominance: Lists Nigerians who were ever Grammy award nominees
https://www.thecable.ng/6-years-nigeria-wins-grammys-olusola
At the 57th edition of the Grammy awards, which held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, Nigerian Kelvin Olusola and his team, Pentatonix, won in the Best Arrangement, Instrumental or Acappella category.
Olusola thus joined a growing list of Nigerians to have won the award after Helen Folashade Adu (better known as Sade Adu), Henry Adeola Samuel (popularly called Seal) and Sikiru Adepoju.
In 1986, at the 28th Grammy awards, Sade Adu winning with her band, Sade, as Best New Artiste, became the first Nigerian to win in the prestigious awards.
Ten years later, another Nigerian, Seal, won the Grammys Record of the Year and Song of the Year awards for his song Kiss from a Rose, a song which was remixed as a soundtrack to Batman forever.
Sikiru Adepoju won the Grammy in 1991 and 2009 as a part of Mickey Hart’s group, Planet Drum, whose albums won the award for Best Contemporary World Music Album for the two years.
Many other Nigerians have been nominated but lost out to other nominees.
The first Nigerian to be nominated for the award was King Sunny Ade, in 1983 for his album, Synchro System. He was re-nominated in 1998 for his collection of Yoruba songs Odu, becoming the first African to be nominated twice.
Femi, son of controversial Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has been nominated for a Grammy award four times. He was nominated in 2003, 2010, 2012 and 2013, but did not win any. ___________________________ |

Am out of this thread. ...that moment when you finally realised you've been decimated but want to cover up your shame.. Dude, I am not as guilty as charged by you, you are the one hurting yourself by rolling around the thread like a loner vagabond. Nigeria imports 1,500 armoured vehicles yearly – Proforce boss JANUARY 29, 2014 : RASHEED BISIRIYU print Chief Executive Officer, Proforce Limited, Mr. Adetokunbo OgundeyinChief Executive Officer, Proforce Limited, Mr. Adetokunbo Ogundeyin Chief Executive Officer, Proforce Limited, Mr. Adetokunbo Ogundeyin, spoke to journalists in Lagos on armoured vehicle importation and manufacturing in Nigeria, among other issues. RASHEED BISIRIYU was there Why are armoured vehicles generally expensive? It is so because of ballistic steel. The cost of ballistic steel is enormous. We are talking about steel of about 6.5 millimetre thickness. We are talking about adding a weight of at least 1,000 kilos to a vehicle. The suspension has to be reinforced, which comes all the way from Australia. All these things are imported. But, with time, as the new automotive policy gains ground, we will start producing these things in Nigeria. That is the benefit of the new automotive policy. Armoured vehicles are certainly heavy; how do you manage weight problem? That is why when you want to armour a vehicle, we suggest that the engine capacity should be a minimum of 4.6 litres; that is Landcruiser and above; so, there will be a lot of power and torque to move the vehicle very well. Apart from that, it must have a reinforced suspension. Moreover, we always advise you don’t go more than 100Km to 120km per hour. Above that, it is a bit dangerous, because the vehicle is very heavy and then you need to be trained on how to drive an armoured vehicle. It is not the same way you drive other vehicles. Nigeria is said to be among the top four countries importing armoured vehicles in the world. Does this worry you, especially Nigeria being in the same group with Iran and Afghanistan that are known for violence? Yes, it is a major concern. Insecurity is a major concern. But one thing I will say is that Nigeria is not isolated when it comes to this. Don’t forget that we recently transited from military to civilian rule. We are still trying to find our feet under the civilian rule. All these things add up. We are having another election next year. Politics in this country is a bit of do-or-die. A lot of people just feel that they will be insecure. So, they want to protect themselves. That is one reason. The other reason is the level of threat to life in the northern area. I am talking about the Boko Haram issue. Unfortunately, the situation is escalating; people feel threatened in the north, and it is even spreading to the South. This is the reason why people feel they have to be protected. Armed robbery is also a factor. How many armoured vehicles are imported into the country every year? When you talk about the normal passenger vehicles, I think it is about 500 and 800 in a year. There are Armoured Personnel Carriers imported by the Police and the Customs. By the time you add the ones imported by the military, you will be talking about 1,500 in a year. Why did you opt for armoured vehicles business? The state of insecurity has been on the increase. When you look at armed robbery, you will see that it is on a high level. I was in Kuwait sometime ago and people were looking for a company that would market their products. But I did not want to be a go-between. I wanted to be a manufacturer. So, we teamed up with some Colombians to set up Proforce in 2008. That was actually how we started the company. And the reason we founded the company, like I said, was the high level of insecurity in the country and all over the world. Why did you prefer manufacturing to importing? I have passion for innovation. As an engineer, I do not believe that trading is the way forward. Engineers believe that trading does not build the economy of any country; it is through innovative manufacturing and application of the latest technology. Manufacturing is the heartbeat of any economy; without manufacturing, the economy will be stagnant and may collapse under global market pressures. Trading is just a short-term engagement; manufacturing is long-term. You can imagine the amount of joy you have when you see your products in other countries all over the world. It enhances Nigeria’s good image all over the world. What exactly do you produce in your plant, and can the standard be compared with similar products elsewhere in the world? We armour sport utility vehicles. We make a lot of tactical vehicles, cash-in-transit vans; infantry combat vehicles, armoured patrol boats, Unmanned Arial Vehicles and architectural armouring. We are now putting together a prototype military tank. Majority of these vehicles are second to none when you look at the quality. We have brought in expatriates that have many years of experience in armouring. These are people who were the top guys where they were working before. They have transferred the technology to Nigerians who are coming up seriously fast. I can assure you that our products are just as good as all the products that are imported into Nigeria. Moreover, all defence products manufacturers import raw materials from the same select group of companies. For instance, we source for glass from the same world leading armoured glass company in Peru; steel from the same company. We have independently tested the different parts. They are all tested in ballistic laboratories in Germany and we are putting together a process of taking the vehicle as a whole for testing in Germany too. Apart from that, even the drive of our vehicles is different; because of our environment, the suspensions are made to suit our roads. What kind of support have you been getting from government? Proforce has been recognised by government. In fact, there was a time the President sent a delegation of all the security outfits within the Presidency to come and look at what we are doing. At different times, the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, and the Minister of State in the ministry have been to the plant. The military has been there. Commissioners of police of different states have also been there, and they all appreciated what we were doing and were impressed. Not only that, the Federal Government has just come out with the new automotive policy as part of the transformation agenda. The automotive policy is the best thing to ever happen to this country. Look at a country like Iran where the auto industry contributes 10 per cent to the GDP of that country. That is what is going to happen in Nigeria. The auto policy will transform this country completely into a manufacturing nation. Look at financing, the Federal Government has now provided an intervention fund for manufacturing. This fund is one that is accessed easily. |

Ipods yoots are now angry. Adi’, meaning ‘to tie’ and ‟re’ which means to dye’ is the name given to indigo-dyed cloth produced by the Yoruba of South Western Nigeria using a variety of resist-dye techniques that reflect the culture, language and art tradition of the Yoruba people. The earliest form of Adire was Kijipa, a prototype of cotton, locally-woven hand-spun cloth dyed with indigo. The Indigo dye is made from the chopped and pounded leaves of the African indigo plant. The cloth takes on a brown color, which immediately oxidizes with air and becomes a beautiful deep blue color. The Alaro controls production of Adire while Aladire controls its marketing.
The major Yoruba cities traditionally noted and recognised for Adire are Abeokuta, Ede, Ibadan, Ondo and Osogbo. Of all the centers, Osogbo is traditionally renowned as the home of indigo, and the “home of dyeing”; “Osogbo ilu aro” and the people are so good as dyers as to elicit the Yoruba saying “Aro nbe l’Osogbo, omo eniyan ni mbe nile Ibadan,” translating it is Indigo dominates Osogbo, while large human population dominates Ibadan. As a distinctive textile-type, Adire first emerged in the city of Abeokuta in the 19th century.

We told them, we are not their mate 6 Emerging Female Entrepreneurs To Watch In Africa Imoteda Aladekomo, Heels In The KitchenNo one expected West African food to emerge as the world’s healthiest when Lancet Global Health’s reviewed of dietary habits from around the globe earlier this summer. Unfortunately, you won’t find much African food on the world stage as other cuisines such as Italian, Chinese and Indian are the go-to choices for international palettes. Cordon Bleu trained chef Imoteda Aladekomo has plans to change that by globalizing African food, starting with her native Nigerian dishes. She wants to use television as a platform to show the richness and diversity in the dishes and make it more accessible to non-Africans. With a show already filmed and plans underway to expand to merchandising, Chef Tomi may become the next biggest cooking star. Kasope Ladipo-Ajai, Omo Alata FoodsOmo Alata, the Yoruba name for spice seller is a budding food processing company that wants to simplify the way Nigerians cook their food. As a busy wife and computer science graduate Kasope Ladipo-Ajai no longer had the 2-3 hours it took to make a standard stew or soup after facing hours of traffic plus a full workday. Spending time abroad she saw how quick service and prepackaged meals made life easier for busy families, especially working moms. While busy urbanites are having trouble accessing and cooking fresh meals, millions of pounds of produce go to waste during long transit times to urban centers. Kasope and her husband Olatayo founded Omo Alata Foods to provide ready to cook pepper and stew products and tap into the rapidly growing middle class consumer and desire for high quality packaged foods. http://www.forbes.com/sites/mfonobongnsehe/2015/08/13/6-emerging-female-entrepreneurs-to-watch-in-africa-2015/
|
