Apology accepted... Like you said, everyone has a right to their opinion on these things; I am a realist and not an idealist. I believe that no matter how careful and wonderful parents may be, children being children sometimes would still go beyond their assigned boundaries.

I was once a kid and a teenager, and no matter how strict and wonderful my parents were, I know I did overstep my assigned boundaries sometimes because it was impossible for my parents or teachers to have their eyes on my 100% of the time. I can only thank God that I suffered no major misfortune through those years but even if such ever happened, I believe it would be totally out of place for anyone to blame my parents for that.

The point i have simply tried to pass on to you is that it is totally wrong of you to judge the parents of these 2 boys who lost their lives because you do not even know the parent. and you don't know the full story.

Are you a parent?.... Whether yes or no, the only advice I have for you is to pray fervently to God to never let you experience anything close to such a tragedy. More often than not, things like this (children sneaking out of the house) are totally beyond our powers as mere humans and it has absolutely nothing to do with good/bad parenting. There is no way even the best parent in this world would tie a leash around the neck of a 14 year old to monitor every single move he makes outside the gates. You however brag to be a very responsible, possibly omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent parent whom such a thing can never happen to; so who am I to doubt you?

Honestly, you aren't making much sense at this point. How can you simply conclude one would be a bad parent as if there is a user manual on parenting? Your kind of personality plays a role in the kind of parent you will be. Predicting bad/good is not just black and white since the child also has his/her own personality. Speaking of which I don't think you've lived around areas with water bodies before. Kids learn to swim long before the age stipulated thus and it is no strange thing to see them taking their bath in these waters.
So I refuse to subscribe to your 'rigid parenting' theme. Kids must play, kids deserve space and kids tell lies at one point or the other. It's just misfortune that made this a tragedy, what could easily have been pranky/fun on any other day. You may be lucky to have a child with a meek personality. Any other variation could turn out worse should you mete out rigid lifestyle on them, especially if their environment promises something exciting than you and your methods.

There's nothing called rigid parenting - parenting is parenting. First it is absolutely absurd to be a parent and not know the whereabouts of your kids and what they are up to. It is every parents responsibility to check the safety of what are kids do, warn them of the dangers of known environmental threats and hazards, caution them and chastise when necessary.

A bible translation says . Take your sight of a child and lose the child. ( spare the rod and spoil the child ). Nobody should justify these people their negligence led to the death of two young minds. Who knows the kinds of destiny those children carry, see how recklessness as a parent, led to their early demise. Let's no play the holy card, it is a rude reawakening to parents to keep an eye on their children.
