Foreign AffairsEpstein Documents Vanish From U.S. Justice Department Website, Including Photo by treesun(op): 8:46pm On Dec 21, 2025
The removed documents included images of paintings depicting nude women and a photograph showing pictures arranged along a credenza and inside drawers.

At least 16 documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, an American financier and convicted sex offender accused of serial sex trafficking of women and girls, disappeared from the Justice Department’s public website less than a day after being posted, raising questions about transparency and the nature of the missing materials.

Epstein died in a New York prison cell on August 10, 2019 as he awaited, without the chance of bail, his trial on sex trafficking charges.

Some of the files reportedly included photographs that could shed light on Epstein’s connections with high-profile figures, according to Associated Press.

The removed documents included images of paintings depicting nude women and a photograph showing pictures arranged along a credenza and inside drawers.

The report noted that inside a drawer among other photos, was a photograph of Trump, alongside Epstein, Melania Trump and Epstein’s longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

The Justice Department did not respond to questions about why the files were removed, but posted on X that “photos and other materials will continue being reviewed and redacted consistent with the law in an abundance of caution as we receive additional information.”

The disappearance prompted speculation about what was removed and why the public was not informed. Democrats on the House Oversight Committee highlighted the missing Trump photograph in a post on X, writing: “What else is being covered up? We need transparency for the American public.”

The incident adds to longstanding concerns over the Justice Department’s release of tens of thousands of documents, which offered limited insight into Epstein’s crimes or the prosecutorial decisions that allowed him to avoid serious federal charges.

Key materials, including FBI interviews with victims and internal memos on charging decisions, were absent.

Among the missing records are FBI interviews with survivors and Justice Department memos examining charging decisions, files that could have clarified why Epstein was allowed in 2008 to plead guilty to a state-level prostitution charge.

The released documents largely feature images of Epstein’s homes in New York City and the U.S. Virgin Islands, alongside photographs of celebrities and politicians.

Grand jury transcripts reveal testimony from several young women, including a 14-year-old, who described being paid to perform sexual acts for Epstein.

“For every girl that I brought to the table he would give me $200,” one testified. “I also told them that if they are under age, just lie about it and tell him that you are 18,” one victim said.

Former U.S. attorney Alexander Acosta, who oversaw the case in 2008, later told Justice Department lawyers that he had concerns over whether a jury would believe Epstein’s accusers.

“I’m not saying it was the right view,” Acosta said. “There’s been a lot of changes in victim shaming.”

Jennifer Freeman, attorney for Epstein accuser Maria Farmer, described the document release as both validating and frustrating.

“It’s a triumph and a tragedy,” she said. “It looks like the government did absolutely nothing. Horrible things have happened and if they investigated in even the smallest way, they could have stopped him.”

Despite a congressional deadline to release all records, the Justice Department continues to publish documents on a rolling basis, citing the time-consuming process of redacting survivors’ identities.

The department has not indicated when additional records will be released, leaving the public still waiting for a full understanding of Epstein’s crimes and the investigative actions taken.

CrimeNDLEA Nabs Wanted Female Drug Kingpin In Lagos With 23.5kg Cocaine Hidden by treesun(op): 12:30pm On Dec 21, 2025
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a wanted female drug kingpin, Shodunke Yetunde Simbiat, following the recovery of 23.5 kilograms of cocaine concealed in her children’s room at her residence in Lagos.

The arrest comes about 20 months after NDLEA dismantled a cocaine trafficking syndicate operating across Lagos and Ogun states, leading to the arrest of two other kingpins, a couple identified as Bolanle Lookman Dauda and Olayinka Toheebat Dauda, in May 2024.

NDLEA spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi, said the suspect had gone underground after the earlier arrests but was eventually tracked down through sustained intelligence and surveillance operations.

He recalled that Lookman and Toheebat Dauda were arrested on Saturday, May 25, 2024, by operatives of the NDLEA Special Operations Unit at Ibiye along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway while attempting to cross the land border to Ghana with a drug consignment.

“At the point of arrest, 42 blocks of cocaine weighing 47.5kg were found on them. A follow-up operation at their residence in Agbara, Ogun State, led to the recovery of an additional 10kg, bringing the total seizure from the couple to 57.5kg of cocaine,” Babafemi said.

Determined to apprehend all members of the syndicate, NDLEA operatives later identified Shodunke Yetunde Simbiat, a 39-year-old female stash keeper, as a key player in the trans-border drug trafficking organisation.

“She was arrested on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at her residence on Onasanya Street, Surulere, Lagos. A search of her apartment led to the discovery of 23.5kg of cocaine concealed in a black suitcase kept in her children’s room. She admitted ownership of the drugs, valued at over ₦5 billion in street value,” he added.

In another operation, NDLEA officers at the Terminal II departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, on Thursday, December 18, intercepted a 36-year-old businessman, Nwanwene Robinson Destiny, while attempting to board a Royal Air Maroc flight to Milan, Italy.

He was found with 1,020 pills of tramadol 225mg and tapentadol 200mg concealed in his luggage. The suspect, who claimed to be based in Italy, said he would have received €200 upon successful delivery of the drugs.

At the Seme border in the Badagry area of Lagos, NDLEA officers arrested a 48-year-old Beninoise woman, Leocardi Josu, on the same day while attempting to cross into Nigeria with 3,400 tablets of tramadol 225mg.

In Kogi State, a 30-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Adamu, was arrested along the Okene–Lokoja highway with 28.4kg of skunk, a strain of cannabis, and Colorado, a synthetic variant, on Friday, December 19.

Similarly, NDLEA operatives in Oyo State recovered 125,000 capsules of tramadol and 1,800 ampoules of pentazocine injection from a Toyota Hiace bus along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on the same day.

Two suspects, Ogunlade Kazeem (54) and Adeleke Ismail (30), were also arrested with 185.4kg of skunk at Challenge Motor Park, Ibadan, on Wednesday, December 17.

In Osun State, a total of 405kg of skunk was seized during a raid on Owena/Ijesha forest, where a suspect, Charles James (45), was arrested on Friday, December 19.

Meanwhile, another suspect, Jamilu Zakari (42), was arrested the same day at a tollgate along the Abuja–Kaduna highway with 14,960 pills of tramadol 225mg concealed in two sacks of kolanuts en route from Abuja to Gusau, Zamfara State.

Babafemi said NDLEA commands nationwide also intensified their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation activities in schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities over the past week. These included enlightenment programmes in Anambra, Katsina and Ekiti States, among others.

Commending the operations, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised officers of the Special Operations Unit and commands at MMIA, Seme, Kogi, Kaduna, Oyo and Osun for their professionalism and operational effectiveness.

He urged all NDLEA personnel to remain vigilant during the festive season and to sustain the highest standards of professionalism in both drug supply and drug demand reduction efforts across the country.

Migrating from Padded Budgets to Forged Laws

Our national shame continues to unfold, evident in the decisions made by our leaders, even at the highest levels of government. This shame is highlighted by a deeply troubling—and frankly unacceptable—issue: the documented discrepancies between what the legislature passed and what was ultimately published as law by the executive. This is not merely an administrative oversight; it is a serious matter that strikes at the core of constitutional governance and reveals the extent of our institutional decay.

We have transitioned from a Nigeria where budgets are padded to one where laws are forged—changes that impact taxpayers' rights and, most importantly, access to justice.

Even more alarming is the introduction of new enforcement and coercive powers that the House of Representatives never approved. These include an outrageous requirement for a mandatory 20% deposit before appeals can be heard in court, asset sales without judicial oversight, and the granting of arrest powers to tax authorities.

Perhaps most disturbing is the silence of the Presidency on a matter involving allegations of forgery, institutional sabotage, and abuse of process. Who made these alterations?

All of this must be made public. Nigerians need to understand what was signed, what was passed, and what was formally recorded. We cannot continue to ask citizens to pay more taxes while trust in governance collapses.

We need leadership that follows due process, embraces transparency and accountability, and respects the rule of law. No nation can thrive where laws are forged and silence replaces leadership.

A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

PoliticsRome Wasn’t Destroyed By Outside Invaders -Shettima Warns Tinubu, APC Chieftains by treesun(op): 2:33pm On Dec 19, 2025
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has warned President Bola Tinubu and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress to avoid complacency ahead of the 2027 electioneering.

“Your excellencies, Rome was not destroyed by outside invaders. Rome was destroyed by the complacency of the Romans. I wish to implore all of us to know that to succeed is much easier than to maintain that success,” stated the vice-president.

Mr Shettima said this during the 14th National Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

He restated the need for the APC to sustain its growing dominance nationwide.

The vice-president highlighted the APC’s strength across the six geopolitical zones, drawing attention to the expanding influence in states controlled by new entrants and defectors.

Mr Shettima added, “The whole of the South-South region is in the APC fold—the whole of the North-Central. Out of the seven states in the North West, five are in the APC. Out of the six states in the South-West, four are in the APC.

“Out of the six states in the North-East, four are in the APC. Certainly, we have become a force of nature. I can get one state from the South-South, for instance, and discuss. Who are the power brokers in Delta state, for instance, besides Governor Sheriff?

“We have the immediate vice-presidential candidate of the sinking ship called PDP, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, within our fold. And with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the former deputy president of the Senate, for God’s sake, how do you expect us to lose in Delta? And I can recreate the same thing in every state of the federation.”

He reassured governors who recently joined the APC that they had found a home in the ruling party.

Mr Shettima also expressed delight that more politicians were eager to join the party, projecting that the ruling party would remain dominant beyond 2027.

PoliticsStatement By SCSN On Alleged Discrepancies In The Gazetted Tax Reform Bills by treesun(op): 9:02am On Dec 19, 2025
PRESS STATEMENT BY THE SUPREME COUNCIL FOR SHARI’AH IN NIGERIA (SCSN) ON ALLEGED DISCREPANCIES IN THE GAZETTED TAX REFORM BILLS

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has followed with deep concern developments on the floor of the National Assembly yesterday, where Hon. Abdulsamad Dasuki, a duly elected member of the House of Representatives, raised an alarm over disturbing discrepancies between the tax reform bills passed by the National Assembly and the versions subsequently gazetted and presented to the Nigerian public.

The Council notes with utmost seriousness the allegation that additional clauses and other substantial material alterations appearing in the gazetted tax laws signed by the President were neither debated nor approved by the National Assembly. If established, this represents a grave and egregious constitutional infraction with far-reaching implications for democracy, governance, economic stability, and public trust.

Given the profound impact of tax legislation on the lives, livelihoods of ordinary citizens, businesses, and religious, social, and economic obligations of Nigerians, the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria actively monitored and contributed immensely throughout the legislative process of considering these tax reform bills at the National Assembly. Our engagements were guided by the need to ensure fairness, equity, transparency, constitutional compliance, and protection of the public interest.

The Council is therefore shocked and deeply disturbed by allegations on the floor of the House of Representatives that what Nigerians collectively debated, scrutinised, and agreed upon through their elected representatives may have been altered at the executive level. Such action, if established ,tantamounts to tampering with the sovereign will of the Nigerian people and undermines the very foundation of constitutional governance.

Accordingly, we hereby call on all stakeholders, in particular, the leadership of the National Assembly - the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas, and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio to rise to their constitutional responsibilities by ensuring that these claims are transparently examined and appropriate actions taken before the commencement of the Tax Laws, on the 1st of January, 2026. Nigerians deserve respect, transparency, and fidelity to due process. Members of the National Assembly must be allowed, without hindrance, to conduct a critical, open, and transparent comparison between the harmonised bills passed by both chambers and the versions that were eventually gazetted, in order to establish the nature, extent, and impact of any alterations.

The consequences of such alleged infractions are grave. They include erosion of public confidence in democratic institutions, weakening of the doctrine of separation of powers, exposure of the affected laws to constitutional challenges, economic uncertainty, and loss of investor confidence. Most critically, they set a dangerous precedent where laws become negotiable instruments rather than binding outcomes of democratic deliberation.

Tax laws, by their compulsory nature, demand the highest level of constitutional integrity and procedural fidelity. Nigerians cannot be expected to comply with fiscal obligations arising from laws whose authenticity and legislative origin are in doubt. The Council therefore urges that this matter be treated with urgency, sincerity, and transparency in order to preserve constitutional order, protect institutional credibility, and reaffirm the supremacy of the Nigerian Constitution.

Nigeria’s democracy must not be undermined by executive overreach or procedural shortcuts. The will of the people, as expressed through the National Assembly, must be respected and defended.

Signed:

Nafiu Baba-Ahmad, mni
Secretary General
Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN)

PoliticsResidents Flee Kogi’s Ayetoro Kiri Community After ECWA Church Attack, Abduction by treesun(op): 11:56am On Dec 18, 2025
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, a resident recorded the deserted Ayetoro Kiri community, with no one visible in the area. The footage shows locked doors and the only sounds being those of roosters crowing.

Ayetoro Kiri, a once-bustling community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, has been largely deserted as residents abandon their homes over rising security fears.

As of Thursday morning, December 18, 2025, streets were eerily quiet, homes left empty, and families were seen relocating to nearby towns and villages in search of safety.

Community sources confirmed that the mass exodus followed a violent attack on the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri on Sunday, December 14, during which armed assailants stormed the church while worshippers were present, abducting over 20 people.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the community, intensifying fears of further assaults. Residents told reporters that the absence of immediate reassurance and a visible security presence compelled them to make the difficult decision to leave their homes.

“This town is empty now. People are not waiting to be next,” a local resident told SaharaReporters.

“When a church is attacked and people are taken just like that, you start packing your life into bags.”

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, a resident recorded the deserted Ayetoro Kiri community, with no one visible in the area. The footage shows locked doors and the only sounds being those of roosters crowing.

The video also captures a lorry carrying residents fleeing the town in fear of bandit attacks, as well as several broken windows, which the recorder attributed to the assailants.

“See, there is no one. All of us have left the village. You can see all the doors; they are all closed. We are tired and we don’t know what to do. All these bandits have ‘killed’ our village. On Sunday, 14th of December, they entered our village. Now, see everywhere,” he said in pidgin English.

“They have taken people to the bush, close to 40 people. Please, help us. It is only fowls you can see. Everybody has left. See how they broke all those windows.”

As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the abducted worshippers remain unconfirmed. Calls are intensifying for urgent intervention by security agencies to restore public confidence and prevent the full displacement of the community.

Ayetoro Kiri now joins a growing list of communities in Kogi State facing mass displacement, as persistent insecurity continues to test the resilience and hope of residents.

On Sunday, SaharaReporters broke the news that no fewer than 20 worshippers had been abducted on after gunmen attacked the First ECWA Church in the community.

Local sources said the attackers stormed the church while a worship session was ongoing, firing sporadically to create panic among congregants.

Many worshippers reportedly fled the scene, while an undisclosed number were seized by the assailants, who later escaped through nearby bush paths.

PoliticsWale Edun Contradicts Tinubu, Says FG Didn’t Meet 2025 Revenue Target by treesun(op): 12:35pm On Dec 17, 2025
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has contradicted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the 2025 revenue target claim, saying the government has only met N10.7 trillion out of projected N40.8 trillion.

The president had, while addressing stakeholders of the Buhari Organisation who visited him at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, declared that Nigeria had met its revenue target for 2025 ahead of schedule.

The President said the government would no longer rely on borrowing to fund its budget.

Tinubu said his administration’s non-oil revenue drive had yielded enough to meet this year’s projections by August, reducing Nigeria’s dependence on external loans.

Today I can stand here before you to brag: Nigeria is not borrowing. We have met our revenue target for the year and we met it in August,” Tinubu had said in September.

However, Edun said the federal government has recorded a wide revenue shortfall in the 2025 fiscal year, raising fresh concerns about the sustainability of Nigeria’s public finances.

He stated this on Tuesday during an interactive session with the House of Representatives Committees on Finance and National Planning.

The session was convened to discuss the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).

This follows the transmission of the MTEF and FSP to the House by President Bola Tinubu last Wednesday for legislative consideration and approval.

According to Edun, the federal government had projected ₦40.8 trillion in revenue for 2025 to finance the ₦54.9 trillion “budget of restoration,” which was designed to stabilise the economy, secure peace, and rebuild prosperity.

He said the actual revenue performance was significantly short of expectations, with total inflows for the year now projected to close at about ₦10.7 trillion.

Edun said, The current trajectory indicates that federal revenues for the full year will likely end at around ₦10.7 trillion, compared with the ₦40.8 trillion that was projected.”

He attributed the shortfall largely to weak oil and gas revenues, particularly lower-than-expected collections from Petroleum Profit Tax and Company Income Tax paid by oil and gas companies.

The minister also cited underperformance across several non-oil revenue subheads, compounding the pressure on government finances.

Additionally, Edun disclosed that the government had borrowed about ₦14.1 trillion during the year in an effort to bridge the funding gap created by the revenue shortfall.

PoliticsSuicide Bomber Kills Five Soldiers In Borno by treesun(op): 3:13pm On Dec 16, 2025
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was reported by local media
byMuhammad M. Ali December 16, 2025 Reading Time: 3 mins read
A suicide bomber has reportedly killed five soldiers in the Pulka area of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was reported by local media platforms.

The suicide bomber, suspected to be a member of the Boko Haram terrorist group, was thought to have come from their hideout in the Mandara mountains.

Pretending to be a passerby, the terrorist detonated the bomb close to the soldiers at a checkpoint, killing five.

The military has yet to speak about the development at the time of filing this report.

However, Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence, recently ordered the withdrawal of soldiers from road checkpoints and their redeployment into the bush to directly confront terrorists.

The retired army general said the deployment of soldiers to the bush and leaving the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to take over checkpoint duties is one of his key strategies for tackling insurgency in the nation.

Sunday’s incident occurred hours after PREMIUM TIMES reported how several civilians were killed, allegedly by Nigerian Air Force airstrikes, at the Daban Masara area of Kukawa Local Government Area of the state.

The victims included drivers who went to the area to transport fish.

The latest local media report put the number of victims at five, all drivers, with their vehicles also destroyed.

It said the three gun trucks belonging to insurgents were also destroyed.

NAF Speaks
Speaking on the incident, the Nigerian Air Force told journalists that the strike targeted identified locations and vehicles associated with the terrorists, and resulted in the killing of some terrorists.

It said the operation was conducted on Sunday by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai following intelligence reports on the presence of a terrorist workshop and movements linked to armed elements in the area.

However, earlier in a statement posted on Facebook on Sunday, the Air Force, lauding the US capacity support, reaffirmed its priority on “civilian safety in operations.”

The Air Force added that it hosted a delegation of US experts on Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response (CHMR), a partner it said has bolstered its operations.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Sunday Aneke, emphasised that the CHMR’s collaboration with the Air Force forms a critical component of the NAF’s “operational ethics and professional evolution.”

But the air mishaps came less than 24 hours after the promise.

Military intensifies onslaught on insurgents
Since the security architecture restructuring by the administration of President Bola Tinubu which brought in Mr Musa as defence minister, attacks on insurgents’ hideouts have intensified.

The latest military’s operation strides nationwide reclaimed the over 14 territories and intercepted N9 million ransom in the last 48 hours.

In the North-east, the troops of Operation HADIN KAI have sustained offensive actions in Borno and Yobe states, killing 11 ISWAP/JAS terrorists in ambushes, fighting patrols and follow-up exploitation operations in Bama, Konduga and Guzamala local government areas.

Weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, bicycles and terrorist logistics, including energy drinks and food items were recovered.

The troops also arrested three suspected ISWAP/JAS collaborators, including logistics suppliers intercepted along the Konduga–Bama road, with 700 packs of energy drinks, mobile phones and cash recovered.

In the North-west, the source said the troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA engaged terrorists in Zurmi and Maradun LGAs of Zamfara, forcing them to retreat into surrounding bushes.

In the South-south, Mr Musa said the troops conducting anti-illegal bunkering operations in Akwa Ibom uncovered about 600 litres of illegally refined AGO, which was handled in line with operational directives.

This was before the military also repelled an attack on the Mairari Military Base in Borno, killing some terrorists.

In remarks made on Monday, Mr Musa stated that the operational capacity of terrorist groups, bandits, and other criminal elements had been significantly degraded across multiple theatres.

Mr Musa said this at the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Annual Conference 2025, which was held at Nebo Hall, Abalti Barracks, Lagos State.

The minister said that the gains reflected the courage of troops, improved planning and execution, as well as the growing impact of coordinated operations conducted within a joint and multi-agency framework.

PoliticsSupreme Court Didn't Endorse Dissolution Of Democratic Structures- Falana by treesun(op): 8:16am On Dec 16, 2025
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has addressed widespread misinterpretations of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on state of emergency powers.

While the apex court affirmed the President’s constitutional authority under Section 305 to declare a state of emergency, Falana stressed that the court did not approve the suspension or dissolution of elected state executives or legislatures.

Falana explained that the case, Attorney-General of Adamawa State & 19 Ors v Attorney-General of the Federation (SC/CV/329/2025), was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction, but the court still considered the substance of the case.

He emphasised that media reports suggesting the Supreme Court endorsed the removal of democratic structures during emergency rule are misleading and incorrect.

PoliticsTinubu Meets Service Chiefs In Aso Rock by treesun(op): 7:45pm On Dec 15, 2025
President Bola Tinubu is holding a closed-door meeting with the Service Chiefs at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Our correspondent observed that the meeting began about 06:01pm (local time) as the security chiefs arrived at the forecourt and were ushered into the President’s office.

It is Tinubu’s first meeting with the military high command since he swore in General Christopher Musa (retd.) as the new Minister of Defence on December 4.

Although the agenda of Monday’s meeting is not yet public, the engagement is coming as 115 students kidnapped from a Catholic boarding school in November remain in captivity.

He also ordered the withdrawal of all police personnel from VIPs

The meeting also comes days after Nigeria’s Senate approved Tinubu’s request to deploy troops to Benin Republic following an attempted coup in the neighbouring country.

PoliticsInflation Drops To 14.45% In November by treesun(op): 2:42pm On Dec 15, 2025
WAT
Nigeria’s Headline inflation has dropped to 14.45% in the month of November, according to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The report said the figure reduced from the October 2025 headline inflation rate of 16.05%.

It said the November 2025 headline inflation rate showed a decrease of 1.6% compared to the October 2025 Headline inflation rate.

“On a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate was 20.15% lower than the rate recorded in November 2024 (34.60%). This shows that the headline inflation rate (year-on-year basis) decreased in November 2025 compared to the same month in the preceding year (i.e., November 2024), though with a different base year, November 2009 = 100.”

On a month-on-month basis, the Headline inflation rate in November 2025 was 1.22%, which was 0.29% higher than the rate recorded in October 2025 (0.93%). This means that in November 2025, the rate of increase in the average price level was higher than the rate of increase in the average price level in October 2025.

It said Food inflation rate in November 2025 was 11.08% on a year-on-year basis.

“This was 28.85% points lower compared to the rate recorded in November 2024 (39.93%). The significant decline in the annual food inflation figure is technically due to the change in the base year. On a month-on-month basis, the Food inflation rate in November 2025 was 1.13%, up by 1.5% compared to October 2025 (-0.37%),” it added.

EducationFG Bans Admission, Transfer Of SS3 Students by treesun(op): 3:51pm On Dec 14, 2025
The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in all public and private schools, beginning from the 2026/27 academic session.

The announcement, signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, said the directive was part of efforts to curb examination malpractice and restore credibility to Nigeria’s education system.

“The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has announced a nationwide prohibition on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in all public and private secondary schools,” the statement read.

According to the ministry, the policy follows growing concerns over the increasing incidence of malpractice, including the use of so‑called special centres during external examinations.

It explained that admissions and transfers will now be restricted strictly to Senior Secondary School One (SS1) and Senior Secondary School Two (SS2). “Admission or transfer into SS3 will no longer be permitted under any circumstance,” the ministry stated.

Officials said the measure is aimed at discouraging last‑minute movement of students for examination‑related advantages, ensuring proper academic monitoring, and promoting continuity in teaching and learning.

School proprietors, principals, and administrators nationwide have been directed to comply fully with the policy.

The ministry warned that any violation would attract sanctions in line with existing education regulations and guidelines.

Reaffirming government’s commitment, the statement added: “The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirms the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining academic standards, promoting fairness, and restoring credibility to public examinations across the country.”

Ahead of the 2023 PDP presidential primaries Obasanjo, in May 2022, held a closed-door meeting with three PDP governors in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Obasanjo, then, met with Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and a former Cross River Governor, Donald Duke.

Earlier in January, the same year, Obasanjo told leaders of opposition PDP that he won’t return to the party, when a PDP delegation led by the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, four former governors, and members of the party’s National Working Committee visited him at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

PoliticsSanusi: Nigerian Leaders See Public Office As Family Business by treesun(op): 1:40pm On Dec 11, 2025
Muhammadu Sanusi, Emir of Kano, says Nigeria’s political elite deliberately sabotage the country’s progress by treating public office as “family business”.

Speaking on Wednesday at the 15th anniversary of Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria in Lagos, Sanusi said the political class sidestepped opportunities for national development because “public office is about themselves, their families, and people close to them, not about the country or the citizens”.

“We have done enough damage and maybe we need to stop. And I think this is the point Omobola is making about missed opportunities. Not just missed opportunities, I think sometimes deliberately missed opportunities,” he said.

The reason we miss these opportunities is because we have people who think public office is about themselves, it’s about their families, it’s about people close to them, it’s not about the country. But public office is about the citizens.”

He urged young Nigerians to reject the dysfunctional country that has been “manufactured” for them and build one that fulfils its true potential.

The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said the current system is one built on “ethnic rivalries, religious conflicts, and competition for personal aggrandizement”, adding that Nigerian youths must unite across all strata and articulate a clear, achievable vision for a different nation.

“The important thing for me is that as citizens, each and every one of us will remember that the nation belongs to us. It does not belong to the government, it does not belong to politicians, it belongs to us,” he said.

“We own this country and wherever we find ourselves, we must remember that we are holding one small part of Nigeria and we have a duty to do what we must, to contribute our own quota to this country.

“What we need to do is try to come together and articulate a clear and achievable ideological position, a vision for what kind of Nigeria we want to have.

“And it has to be a Nigeria different from the Nigeria that has been manufactured for us, a Nigeria of ethnic rivalries, religious conflicts, race seeking, competition for aggrandizement.

“It has to be a country that realises its potential in the committee of nations.”

PoliticsTinubu Orders Ribadu To Train, Arm More Forest Guards by treesun(op): 2:56pm On Dec 10, 2025
Tinubu Orders NSA Ribadu To Immediately Train, Arm More Forest Guards To Tackle Kidnapping, Terror Attacks

President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Security Adviser (NSA) to begin the immediate training, arming, and deployment of additional forest guards nationwide as part of renewed efforts to confront Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

The directive was disclosed on Wednesday in a statement issued by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications.

According to the presidency, Tinubu said the country continues to battle rampant cases of kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism—threats he insists require a more aggressive and coordinated response.

"We face challenges here and there of kidnapping and terrorism. We need all the forces we can utilize," the President was quoted as saying. “We need to protect our people.”

SaharaReporters previously reported that the Senate on Tuesday began consideration of President Bola Tinubu’s request seeking approval to deploy Nigerian troops to the Benin Republic as part of efforts to safeguard the neighbouring country’s democratic institutions.

The request, contained in a letter read on the Senate floor by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, detailed Tinubu’s explanation that the troops would be sent on a Peace Mission “in compliance with Section 5(4) Part II of the 1999 Constitution” and after “due consultations with the National Defence Council.”

Tinubu informed lawmakers that the deployment followed a formal plea from the Republic of Benin in response to the attempted military coup in the country over the weekend.

The Senate subsequently referred the request to the ‘Committee of the Whole’ for immediate deliberation, with lawmakers expected to debate the scope, legality and implications of the proposed deployment in the coming hours.
