PoliticsEkiti Election: Abia Guber Aspirant, Ukauwa Asks EFCC To Probe Fayose by Trendme(op): 3:57pm On Jul 16, 2018
Chidike Ukauwa, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia state, Monday told the outgoing Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose to prepare to be ready to be imprisoned after handing over, for allegedly misappropriating funds meant for the development of the state.

Ukauwa expressed disappointment that despite huge funds that accrued to Ekiti state, Fayose allegedly failed to bring democracy dividends to the people of Ekiti.

He commended the people of Ekiti state for their massive support for the All Progressives Congress, APC, during Saturday’s gubernatorial poll, assuring that the governor-elect, Kayode Fayemi would live up to expectations.

Ukauwa, who spoke on Monday shortly after returning from Ekiti state, criticized Fayose for his inability to clear backlogs of salaries owed to civil servants in Ekiti.

He called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the governor to ascertain the root of billions of naira he allegedly wasted during last Saturday’s election in Ekiti.

According to the governorship hopeful,”I must thank the people of Ekiti state for their overwhelming support to APC during the last Saturday election.

“They have expressed themselves by voting massively for Dr. Kayode Fayemi. And I strongly believe that the governor-elect would transform Ekiti, and bring in his wealth of experience.

“Also, on my arrival to Ekiti state last Friday, I learnt that Ekiti workers are being owed salaries. And Fayose has been receiving money from the federal government. I think, EFCC should look into the finances of Ekiti.

” Even in my state, Abia, the governor is not paying salaries. Come 2019, what happened in Ekiti would also happened in Abia.”

This was disclosed by the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus during his condolence visit to Ciroma’s family in Abuja.

Secondus, who led members of the National Working Committee and some other PDP leaders to Ciroma’s Abuja residence to commiserate with the family on the passage of the elder statesman, said that he would be consulting with party leaders after the period of mourning to decide on how to honour the departed party men.

Speaking to journalists, Secondus described Ciroma as an honest and disciplined nationalist, adding that the late former minister played a vital role in addressing the challenges that PDP faced in the past.

He said, “Among all the other leaders, late former Vice President Alex Ekwueme was a founding father and Adamu Ciroma was one of the pillars of the party behind the formation of what we know today as the largest political party in Africa.

“By the grace of God something will be done to immortalise them. We will consult with other leaders but right now we are in a state of mourning, by the time we are through with it we will come out with something.

“He believed in merit and equal rights and justice. He believed that all human beings are equal before God. We must all emulate him. We also ask those serving now and those that are yet to to emulate him because he was an embodiment of rule of law justice and human rights for all.”

On her part, the wife of the late elder statesman and former minister of women affairs, Inna Ciroma, thanked the PDP family for coming to visit them.

Other PDP chieftains also at the residence included former governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema, former acting chairman of PDP, Halliru Bello Mohammed and former senate president, Sen Adolphus Wabara.

CrimeDoctors Protest Killing Of Colleague Along Abuja-kaduna Highway by Trendme(op): 11:21am On Jul 07, 2018
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARDs) Friday protested the killing of one of its members along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

The doctors decried the persistent cases of killing and kidnapping along the highway.

Dr Oluremi Alabi was killed by gunmen along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway during a trip to Kaduna.

Speaking during the protest, NARD Chairman, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), Gwagwalada, Dr Godday Akor, called on the federal government to show more commitments in addressing the lingering security challenges facing resident doctors and citizens across the country.

Akor described the deceased “as a hardworking doctor in the surgical department with impeccable character who made positive impact within and outside the hospital”.

“Security is paramount to the social, economic and political development of the nation, hence the need for the government to give it serious attention,” he observed.

“This is not the first time we have been hearing about security challenges along Abuja-Kaduna road and we receive cases every week from that axis.

“We are drawing the attention of the government to address the security challenges along this road and other unrest in the country to save lives and properties.

“We advise the government to also pay attention to education, empowerment of the youths and other vital sectors of the economy for national stability and development,” he said.

The chairman also advised Nigerians to be more security conscious with regards to the senseless killings by unknown gunmen in the country.

The Chief Medical Director of UTHA, Prof. Bisallah Ekele, also speaking, described the late Alabi “as a committed staff who was dedicated to the profession and service to humanity.”

PoliticsOur Nation Is Safe Again, Buhari Praises Military by Trendme(op): 6:51pm On Jul 06, 2018
According to him, the negative history which was associated with the northeast in the past decade is now gradually becoming a thing of the past, as a result of the efforts of all security agencies.

“Our nation is safe again, thanks to the efforts of our security agencies,” the president said at the Nigerian Army Day celebration 2018 in Monguno, Borno State on Friday.

Speaking further, he noted that Boko Haram insurgents now surrender willingly to the troops adding that although there are still challenges, they are being tackled head-on.

“Members of the Boko Haram insurgents now surrender willingly in their numbers to our troops.

“I am happy to inform Nigerians that all other forms of security challenges in other parts of the country are being tackled by our security agencies”.

The President noted that this year’s celebration is designed to showcase the army’s personnel, equipment, as well as their combat capability.

Speaking further, he scored his administration high in the fulfillment of its key cardinal policies which are security, economy and anti-corruption.

“In the last three years of this administration, we have worked tirelessly to ensure and preserve the dignity and sanctity of life.

“When I was sworn in as the President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I promised that this administration will tackle the challenges of insecurity, poor economy and fight corruption.

“We are all witnesses to the fact that our once battered economy as a nation, has exited recession and is once again vibrant,” the President said.

On security, he, however, noted that although violent acts are still being perpetrated by “those desperate to cause mayhem”, the government will continue to do its best to fish them out and ensure they are punished.

“There are pockets of violence in several states, some deliberately initiated by disgruntled persons who have lost all arguments and are desperate to cause mayhem as a way of seeking relevance.

“We shall fish them out and punish them according to the provision of the law”.

PoliticsMost Government Officials In Nigeria Are Looters – Prelate by Trendme(op): 3:46pm On Jul 06, 2018
[b]The Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His eminence, Dr Emeka Kanu Uche has alleged that only few government officials in Nigeria are not looters of the public treasury, describing looting as idiotic.

He made this known while delivering a sermon during the burial of Pa William Ibekwe Agupusi, the father of the Bishop of Methodist Church Umuahia-East Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Agupusi which took place at Ihube-ikigwe, Imo state.

He blamed the increasing sufferings, hunger and non-payment of salaries to workers in Nigeria on godfathers who frequently go to government houses to collect money from the government in power.

The prelate, who spoke on the theme: “finishing well” called on politicians and all Nigerians to imbibe good character and eschew all forms of evil, so that God will elongate their years as he did to Pa Williams, who lived for 111 years.

He described Pa Williams Agupusi as a man with good principles and cheerful heart, noting that he lived his life very well and ended well.

Referring to those in government, Uche said, “Instead of them to pay workers’ salaries, they prefer to have so many godfathers who go to government house to collect money. So, if you collect that money, you have become a looter. Both of them are now looters of government treasury.

“They go to government house to loot, and so local government workers, pensioners, teachers and principals will not be paid for many months.

“This attitudes is irrelevant, nonsensical, and idiotic. They are doing that because they are not preparing for eternity,” he stated.

Responding, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Agupusi called on politicians to serve the nation and the people with good heart and eschew all forms of bad character that would endanger the progress of the country.

He noted that his late father, Pa Williams, served his community and church with good heart, which according to him, was what elongated his life to the tune of 111 years.

Those in attendance include over twenty bishops from all parts of the country, over forty reverend minister’s, Governor of Ebonyi state represented by his SSG, Dr. Hygnus Nwokwu, former deputy governor and Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Prof Chigozie Ogbu.

Others include: representative of the former governor of Abia state, Theodore Orji, some prominent traditional rulers from the South-east and South-south geopolitical zones among others.

PoliticsIgbo Political Future Rests On My Re-election—buhari by Trendme(op): 8:07am On Jul 04, 2018
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, said the political future of Igbo in Nigeria depends on his re-election in 2019.

Buhari stated this at the Southeast mega rally at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Imo State, organized by Governor Rochas Okorocha.

This is as notable Igbo leaders in APC in the South East region shunned Okorocha’s rally.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari
Former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu; serving ministers from the zone; serving senators from the zone; former senators, House of Representatives members from the zone were absent.

Also, the state Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, former speakers of the State House of Assembly, former commissioners under Okorocha and over 150 APC leaders in the state shunned the rally.

Buhari was represented by the Secretary to the Federal Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha.

He said: “The people of the South East are part of Nigeria and they have the right to make claim where the need arises and we will all support them.

“The Igbo are not good starters. But whenever they start, they can catch it. Let me say this, 2019 is an election that will make or mar the chances of Igbo in Nigeria. I want Igbo to make a paradigm shift.

“We have to know that the position of the presidency is negotiable. You can argue it from the point of strength and not from the point of weakness. 2019 will determine the future of this country. Let me say this, there are 18 Christians and 18 Muslims in Buhari’s cabinet. Even the Vice President is a Christian. I see a whole lot of people coming out to be president. Let me tell them Nigeria is not a Banana republic.”

In his remark, the national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, said: “In politics, what you see is what you believe. I am impressed with the crowd that I have seen here. It is a sign that the Igbo people love Buhari.

“We are tired of PDP deceiving the people. What they could not do in 16 years, they want us to do it in 3 years. How many times did they invite the Igbo to the ground- breaking ceremony of the second Niger Bridge?

“Many have spoken on the enormous projects of the Federal Government in this part of the country, but it is not yet over. More are cooking.”

Speaking also, the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha said: “Let me start by saying that Igbo people love Buhari and the president should know that Igbo people love him.

“I am happy for our new brand National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. I describe him as the silencer of PDP. Adams Oshiomhole is a hope of APC and we look up to him to give us the best.

“We are one in South East. We are celebrating the leadership of President Buhari. People have argued that we made a mistake. It is just that in 2015, Igbo did not believe in Buhari but in 2018, Igbo now believe in Buhari.”

Also speaking at the rally, former governor of Bornu State, Modu Sherriff, said: “Okorocha is the man of the people. There is no part of this country Okorocha has not received a title. I am very happy with what I have seen today. It means that Okorocha is in charge. We believe that in 2019, the Igbo will give Buhari five million votes.”

Former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, said: “From the South South part of the country, we will give Buhari 80 per cent of our votes.”

Politics''we Cannot Fix In 3 Years What PDP Failed To Do In 16 Years'' Adams Oshiomole by Trendme(op): 7:53am On Jul 04, 2018
APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole, says the party will not stop blaming PDP for its failure during its 16 years of governance in Nigeria.

Oshiomole, who was one of the speakers at the APC South East Mega rally for Buhari in Owerri, Imo State capital on Tuesday, blamed the PDP for failing in establishing projects in the South East during their administration.

“Those who are writing letters now. Those who have become unelected advisers. They governed as absolute rulers for almost three years. They came back eight years, what did they do about second Niger bridge? And then he wanted to take us to Mugabe where there is no end of tenure. Those who have spoken before me have spoken concerning all the initiatives and infrastructural projects that are going on in this part of the country. This is not to say everything is now fine. It is a journey. We cannot fix in three years, what PDP didn’t do in sixteen years. What they didn’t fix in 16 years, they said we should have fixed it in three years. And then they said we should stop the blame game” he said

PoliticsAPC Crisis: Oshiomhole Is Coming Too Late, We Are Leaving- Shehu Sani by Trendme(op): 7:39am On Jul 04, 2018
Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna) has revealed plans by aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State to leave the party.

He told reporters in Abuja, on Tuesday, that the new APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole assumed office at a time it had become too late to reconcile them with the party.

Sani said, “I wish Adams has come earlier because like I said these grenades that were laid by the former chairman will explode in a matter of days.”

According to him, party leaders including President Muhammadu Buhari have proved incapable of handling the crisis.

The Senator explained that the ward, local government and state congresses in Kaduna were flawed and that complaints he and other party members lodged were ignored by the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee.

He noted that to further compound am already bad situation, the immediate past party leadership went ahead to inaugurate the executive committee’s which emerged from the flawed congresses.

Sani said, “It is also very clear to us that even President Muhammadu Buhari is incapable of tackling the menace of the governor of Kaduna state.

“How can a governor, openly called for violence against Senators and not a statement came from the seat of power cautioning such a governor?

“How can a governor move bulldozers and demolish a house of a fellow party member, the one who helped him to be where he is and there is not even a statement from the presidency?

“The governor uses the machinery of the state to emasculate political opponents. He even framed me for murder and there was no statement that came from the presidency to caution such a governor.

“Virtually Kaduna state under governor El-Rufai does not create conducive environment for any of us to remain in that party (APC).”

The Senator also said, “There were three attempts to resolve the Kaduna APC crisis; there was Inuwa Abdulkadir committee which was never respected by the governor, there was the governor Masari- led committee which was also not respected and there as you can see, Tinubu’s attempt to reconcile members of the party was simply naturalized and abandoned. So we are not slaves to continue to be in that party.
