Great work. If your picture of chick is current, you might not have the best of heat distribution in you pen. The chicks ought to be scattered and not concentrated to the centre of the heat source. I also observe that you have approximately less than 1 week before you have space issues. This could also lead to stampede, especially at night when they may be cold and they hear strange noise on the outside. I hope no cows grazing in the area? The heat you feel is not what chicks feel because heat rises up and cold flows down - put a thermometer on the floor just few metre from you heat source and touch their feet to know how they really feel.

Concerning the moisture content of grains, this equipment can be very helpful for random sampling for large numbers.

How does one determine this specification?

I believe the best way to be sure you have this spec is for you to take random samples and go to a laboratory for analysis. Now, it is possible you will be able to make a quick look and estimate if the maize is dry or not too dry by smell, touch and breaking the corn(usually with your teeth) but this will only work for small quantities and if you bargain not too quality maize at the price of quality dried maize, you might not be able to sell at the best price and if you want to use for feed it might not be OK because it could have moulds secreting toxin that have started growing hence causing demand(even death) of livestock.

Did you know that you could get as much as 6 to 8 broilers from 1 average size turkey and as much as much 10 broilers in one large turkey. The amount of raw meat you would get from a average size goat is not comparable to a large turkey. This I have confirmed during the various festive seasons with my family and does that also bought the birds. So make the wise and cost effective decision and rear your birds yourself.

Last year, this same birds at a matured size and age where sold for between #18,000 to #25,000 from the farm gate. This year, you are all aware of the current cost of maize and other key ingredient for feed that are imported and steadily increasing. So do the maths, what do you think will be the cost of one turkey by the end of this year.
