Politics / Northern Groups Slam 180 Lawmakers Over 'Reckless' Endorsement Of Terrorism by TriumphStone: 8:36am On Jul 25 |
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has strongly condemned the recent call by 180 members of the House of Representatives Minority Caucus for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group designated as a terrorist organization by the Nigerian government. Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, National Coordinator of the CNG, described the lawmakers' demand as "reckless" and "a betrayal of the trust reposed in them by their constituents." He noted that the CNG had reported Kanu to the UN for his acts of terror against innocent Nigerians in 2017 and advocated for declaring his group a terrorist organization. "This is a slap in the face of the Nigerian people, and a brazen attempt to subvert the rule of law and undermine the authority of the Nigerian judiciary," Charanchi said. "We are shocked that lawmakers, including those from Northern Nigeria, are supporting the release of a terrorist being held on charges before a court of competent jurisdiction." The CNG recalled the Nigerian government's declaration of Kanu as a terrorist on June 27, 2021, and his subsequent arrest and charging for his persistent call for anarchy in the nation, brutal killings of citizens, and destruction of properties. The groups asked, "Where were they when Nnamdi Kanu and his people were killing and are still killing the Northerners in the east? Where were they when the properties of the Northerners were destroyed by him?" The CNG leader also questioned the motivations of the lawmakers, saying, "Are they elected for their personal benefits or for the interest of the citizens? This is a clear case of legislative rascality, and we reject it in its entirety." CNG commended Hon. Aminu Jamo, representing Daura/Sandamu/Mai Adua federal constituency, for his courageous and patriotic act of publishing a disclaimer on the matter. The coalition also called on Nigerians to rise up and reject this "travesty," standing together against terrorism and those who enable it. "We will not let the blood of our loved ones be in vain," Charanchi said. "We will not let terrorism prevail. We urge Mr. President to ignore this reckless call and ensure that justice is served."

Nairaland / General / IWD: NTYTP Calls Special Attention To Challenges Facing Women In Nigeria by TriumphStone: 2:42pm On Mar 09 |
Young people-driven nongovernmental organisation (NGO), the Not Too Young To Perform (NTYTP), a leadership development advocacy group, has called on governments at all levels “to pay special attention to modern day challenges facing women in Nigeria.” In a statement signed on behalf of the youth body by its national Executive Coordinator, Comrade James Ezema, the NTYTP noted that “peculiar challenges like increasing cases of insecurity at both the urban and grassroots level, widening poverty, rising unemployment, and bad leadership require special attention of governments at all levels, especially as they affect women and girls.” The NTYTP observed that it has since became obvious that the worse hit by such challenges “are the girl-child who are now being forced into early married and prostitution just to escape suffering or to merely stay alive. “We therefore call on the three tiers of government to deepen good governance, provide adequate security for the girl-child to go to school without fear of being killed or kidnapped by gunmen. “Only special government attention to the current plights of women in the country, with a view to addressing them as quickly as possible, that can guarantee a great future for the unborn generations. “Like it is said, educate the woman and educate nation, we urge the governments bring the woman out of poverty and the nation will overcome hunger and deprivation. “Women are known for their multi-tasking abilities. Hence, their contributions to national development are inestimable despite the unique challenges they are currently facing. “While the NTYTP will continue to advocate for a better life for the Nigerian women, we urge the women folks in the country never to relent on their part as a result of the daunting challenges in today's Nigeria knowing that there will always be light at the end of the tunnel. “We equally call on young people to renew their interest in participation in leadership processes at every level in the country to contribute their individual quota in providing good leadership through unequalled performance as a way to safeguard their future and that of the girl-children”, the group concluded. 1 Share

Health / Obukpa, UNN Host Community, Raises Alarm Over Looming Epidemic by TriumphStone: 9:42am On Mar 02 |
Residents of Obukpa Community in university town of Nsukka in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, have raised the alarm over what they described as impending epidemic. The residents, who spoke on Friday, hinged their fears on a leaking sewage at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Indigenes of the community, Mr Chisom Ugwu and Chief Christian Odume told newsmen that a burst sewage had spread its content right into the community, causing discomfort and threatening the health of the people of the area. Recall the the community had dragged the university to court over ecological concerns, bordering on alleged environmental degradation due to ongoing construction of multimillion hostels that allegedly re-channeled flood water into Obukpa community. The case is before an Enugu State High Court in suit No: N/86/2020, which was filed by Hon Nnaemeka Aleke on behalf of the community, seeking to restrain the university and Viagem Property and Investment Limited from further development of the 11,900-room hostel over the alleged environment degradation in Obukpa Community. The university's host community, through its counsel, claimed that construction of the hostel by UNN created erosion that destroyed lands, roads, houses and other properties of Ajuona Obukpa people. It added that it also became a source of mosquito infestation that made malaria a common illness in the community. “The plaintiff claims that the roads leading into and out of Ajuona Obukpa Community are devastated. They claimed that they have suffered unquantifiable damage to their properties generally and that the environment was gradually becoming uninhabitable due to construction activities of the first defendant, which is becoming worse”, the counsel said. The community also sought an order of the court directing the first and second defendants to stop the building of the hostel until they control the erosion devastating lives and properties in Ajuona Obukpa Autonomous Community. Also sought is an interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants, particularly the second defendant, from the construction of the hostel in the premises of the first defendant or any other construction work in the university pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. The parties have all presented their cases, with the matter now adjourned for written address of counsels. It was equally learnt that a few days ago, the judge handling the case, other officials and representatives of both parties in the suit, were at the location to have an on the spot assessment of the claims. However, indigenes of Obukpa community told newsmen that the situation had worsened with the burst sewage, which they said was pushing its contents into their community. “The entire community is in a mess; faeces has been released into our community from that burst sewage. “It is so bad and we are urging urgent action before it throws our community into avoidable health hazards. “If you come to our community now, you will find it difficult to breathe,” Ugwu and Odume told the media.

Business / Pivotal Roles Of Nigeria's Informal Sector Underscored At VDI National Meeting by TriumphStone: 3:40pm On Feb 09 |
The pivotal roles of the countries informal sector in the economic development aimed at creating access to employment opportunities, stimulating income generation and fostering entrepreneurial spirit have again been undeniably reinforced. This followed some critical strategic resolutions during a recent two-day National Executive Council meeting of the Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN) held in Abuja, the nations Capital. The promoter and proponent of national Vat Direct Initiative (VDI), Hon Johnson Moses Olakunle, who doubles as the National Secretary MATAN and Chairman Steering Committee of the (VDI) used the 2024 maiden meeting which came barely one month after it's National Conference and World Media briefing in Abuja in December, to thanked the National Executive Council members and the steering committe members drawn from the 36 states of Nigeria and FCT. He noted that the meeting which according to him was well attended marks the beginning of its formal take off of advocacy, sensitization, implementation of programmes as he urged each state representatives to commence work and ensure that rules of engagement were applied. Hon. Olakunle thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the initiative which according to him will mitigate poverty, strengthen the efforts of Nigerian traders and critical informal sector of the economy by creating effective and efficient interaction on issues affecting their well-being and providing solutions like curbing multiple tax regime, unifying and codifying an ICT user-friendly system for ensuring an integrated tax system with improved database that will take proper care of numerous concerns of traders, marketers, distributors and haulage operators. In doing this according to Hon Johnson, "it is hoped that the Executive Order 5 of the Federal Government which contemplates Ease of Doing Business will bring back maximum confidence in Government- Private Sector Business Relations and cascade down to the businesses of the rural population". Hon Johnson further noted that Attendees to the meeting who are majorly the state representatives, members of the steering committe, Zonal coordinators and Exco's will resume operations in all the states with immediate effect noting that the implementation of the programme which in him words comes with several packages will further cater for the millions of the informal sector amongst which includes but not limited to access to single digit Loan, access to grant, health insurance, promotion of export of goods and services, and other value proposition. Hon Johnson regretted the unfair manner in which the issues of multiple taxation has drastically affected the defenseless traders and call for total support of both the government and the general public to achieve an inclusive national solidarity towards Nigeria's growth. MATAN is a multi stakeholders umbrella body of the informal sectors socio-economic space and has been saddled with the responsibility of administration and management of affairs of the biggest informal sector cluster, over the years with over 40 million documented membership across all the 774and Area Councils in Nigeria. Amongst some of its notable partners include the FIRS, JTB, Banks, Insurance companies, ALGON and other private sectors of the economy.

Politics / As Ganduje’s Five Months Of Midas Touch Restores Stability In APC Leadership by TriumphStone: 6:45pm On Jan 25 |
By Marcel Ezenwa On Thursday, August 3, 2023, the former Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje emerged as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after he was elected at a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. His emergence at the top echelon of the ruling party came at a time the APC needed stability to manage its victory after the 2023 general elections. In his reaction after his election, Alhaji Ganduje thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and promised that internal democracy would prevail in the party during his tenure while also thanking Progressive Governors' Forum (PGF) and the party’s key stakeholders for their dedication, diligence and strategic role to its development. With clear understanding of the enormity of the confidence placed in him by the leaders and members of the APC, the National Chairman of APC unswervingly resolved to honour that trust and humbly accepted his appointment. He said, “Our main focus will be promoting party unity and defending and increasing the number of executive and legislative seats we currently hold. “Under my watch, internal democracy will be strictly adhered to with a deliberate policy to engage in wider consultations and making party functional throughout the year. “More reforms will be carried out in the party in alignment with the current political landscape. “We all agreed that we must unite our members to achieve support for our government to respond adequately, urgently and assertively to the challenges that Nigerians confront on a daily basis,” Ganduje said. Alhaji Ganduje had at the time listed the challenges ahead of him and the party to include unemployment, poverty, insecurity, social cohesion and the rising cost of living. Raising the hope of the masses, the party’s National Chairman appealed to Nigerians to bear with President Tinubu, assuring that when his policies and programmes fully take shape, the President would certainly turn around things for the better. While Nigerians patiently await for President Tinubu administration to fully implement measures that could turn around a battered economy he inherited as well as minimise insecurity in the country, the leadership of his party, under watch of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, has been on top of the game as fair as the party affairs are concerned. Before his emergence, the APC obviously faced turbulent leadership crises that raged consistently for several months, leading to casualties as active members of NWC, including the erstwhile National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, the National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, National Vice Chairman, North West, Salihu Moh Lukman, and the National Legal Adviser, Ahmed El-Marzuk, became victims of the crises following their eventual voluntary resignation. However, since the former Governor assumed office, merely five months ago, the crises have not only simmered down, the party has regained stability and is better positioned for the challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections. This brings to mind the most famous King Midas who is popularly remembered in Greek mythology for his extraordinary ability to turn everything he touched into pure gold. The Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje's golden touch on the APC leadership squarely fits into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as only a stable ruling party can stabilise Nigeria's ailing economy, create jobs and reduce unemployment in the country. By restoring party supremacy and discipline through exemplary leadership, the APC national chairman has minimised distractions for the young administration of President Tinubu and has created a peaceful internal party front that will enable the President to focus on good governance rather than battling with resolution of party crises as in the past. To underscore the independent mindedness and experience of the two-term governor of Kano State, Alhaji Ganduje unambiguously told a visiting director of election and party monitoring for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hawa Habibu, that while insecurity is a huge concern for the conduct of elections in the country, politicians also constitute a hazard. He said, “So, in order to understand the rules and regulations of elections in order to understand what is required to be a civilized politician, our institutions will be educating our people from time to time so that they can abide by the rules, and it will be digital. “We have also directed that in all our party offices, ranging from wards to local government, zones, and states, basically the officers must be available." Those are the words of an experienced party administrator who understands the local political terrain and knows what the problems are. Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje has been working more, doing less of talking, and getting results that has brought stability to the APC, positioning it to not only sustain its gains as an opposition party turned a ruling party but to also become a beautiful bride for both politicians and the electorate in the country. Politics / ALGON National President Hon Alabi Makes Strong Case For Unhindered LG System by TriumphStone: 8:34am On Jan 01 |
...Urges Nigerians to Support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda for a Possible New Nation And Councils That 'the future listens to hope' is another postulation that was part of deep takeaways of the ALGON National President Hon Kolade David alabi during his New year message. In a press statement issued this 31st December evening, it was a mixed emotional laden piece filled with thanks to the rural constituents for their resilience and undying confidence in the democratic journey. He congratulated Nigerians but did not hesitate to express the aggregated displeasure over evidences of unprecedented erosion in the leadership of the local governments and councils for years. The ALGON National President noted that "ordinarily, the system should be regarded as a critical state actors across the country for accretive development to behold and for immense changes in the political landscape which has in the past years been on life support and autopiloted.” He said that such vivid description has deteriorated the unfailing struggles in Nigeria's 63 years of self rule and retrospectively in 1976 when a Constitution that set the tone for a constitutional democracy was midwife down to the 1999 era when the Military amended and handed over the present constitution till that finally contemplated and guaranteed a democratically elected system. Hon Alabi noted that such experiment has been gravitating from one tale of woes to another and will continue unless a strong and virile LG system is guaranteed through autonomy and fiscal independence. The Nigeria challenging economic space has earned the long perception from its poor masses who are left in perennial state of hopelessness and trust deficit to the chequered system. He said having traversed several continents of Africa, Ashia, Europe and America, experience has shown that across the social economic space, the things about feeling hopeless usually present no quick fix to pull one out of that mentally and physically inhibited space but attempt to keep to the speed of adaptation with global realities through strong institutions like the LGAs that has revolutionized countries like Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, and even Sudan. He added that “it was only through decent and smart innovation, with positive thoughts to occupy thinking faculty of leaders and replace those doubt, fear, and anxiety that a shift from fixated thoughts to pull out of such cycle to reinforced some effective, efficient and egregious ideas as encapsulated in President Bola Ähmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda for great future will be entrenched.” Referencing the 80-page Renewed Hope Agenda in the campaign Manifesto, he observed that it was carefully compiled with series of world class development ideas, focussing on Nigeria's local peculiarities specifically with a dive into how best we can attain an inclusive prosperous nation. He urged Nigerian's to fully trust the process and give peace a chance noting that with the Renewed Hope Agenda in the ecosystem, there is mass return of confidence under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is determined to replicate and magnify his 8 years in Lagos example as Governor. Hon. Alabi maintained that even as the Blue Sea Economy agenda of the federal government has all it's operation domiciled in the councils, they are local government oriented-evenly spread from Lagos international deep sea routes in the West, to Abia blue Sea in Ohafia, to Oguta lake in Imo in the East, to Argungu River in Kebbi of the North, to Baro port in Niger up to Lokoja, Onitsha, Onne Port in the South, Bight of Bonny, Lake Chad Basin of the North all begging for development for year's. He said that similar opportunity abound in the Continental Free Trade Agreement of the African Union and ECOWAS and was quick to present valid reasons of Local Governments and Councils as the real owners of the project giving it vast connecting trading routes that predates the Trans Saharan Trade era and the once Slave routes to the western world which all flourished exponentially and begging for turn around. He further harped on the enormous gains of keying into the transformative initiatives of the Tinubu government and harnessing the gains of Continental Free Trade Agreement (aCFTA) and the role of local and regional governments when regarded as state actors in its implementation which will be pivotal in providing unprecedented opportunity for collaborative growth and prosperity. He noted that ideas like creating single market for goods and services across Africa, catalyzing economic integration, eliminating barriers to trade, boosting intra-Africa commerce, and unleashing the immense potential of our collective economies will launch the country in to a new prosperous nation. He said that given the character, competence and capacity of Mr. President, it has become very urgent to fully maximize the aFCTA Agenda 2063 that encapsulates the aspiration of fostering unity, inclusivity, and shared prosperity to make quantum economic leap insisting that businesses, both large and small, can thrive by accessing a broader consumer base within the rural authorities especially if progressively dismantling tariffs and facilitating the movement of goods and services. It was his stand that it's aim to drive industrialization, foster innovation, and economic resilience will benefit more the rural populace as well as the country in general He urged Nigerian's to keep their fate in the true purpose of creating local and regional governments. According to him it will serve as the front lines of implementation, translating the vision of AfCFTA into tangible benefits for their communities in line with standards best practices if strategic planning, infrastructural development, and the creation of business-friendly environments, by such intervention is cascaded down to the local and regional governments to finally catalysts economic growth It will be recalled that Hon Alabi had since his five years as the ALGON National President had numerous high-powered, multi-stakeholder meetings local and international like the UCLGA, African Union, United Nation on Safe Environment, aCFTA, Commonwealth of local governments and Cities, COP28, Climate Change and Adaptation Conference, and numerous to mention. He is spearheading through ALGON with other progressive institutions to canvass the mass return to governance system an approach that earns access to foreign direct investment, International grants, multi-stakeholder partnerships, alliance development and cooperation using the instrumentality of strong local governments. The conversation has characterized the thrust of his administration as ALGON National President including engaging both national and state assembly to make impressive legislation, ensure oversight towards a win win-win for the Tiers of governments. It will be recalled that world over, development experts and global icons have continued to list gains of bottom-up induced growth that reverses lost to affluence focussing on local empowerment of the government system of which Alabi is maximizing the opportunity through engagement and advocacy. 1 Share

Crime / Kogi Killings: Northern Network Condemns Violent Politicians by TriumphStone: 1:36am On Oct 03, 2023 |
The Northern Emancipation Network (NEN) has condemned the actions of violent politicians and in particular, called attention to the lack of action taken against Kogi State Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, who has been accused of involvement in the killing of APC supporters and undermining security efforts. The Northern Network is worried that despite these serious accusations, Yakubu remains free, sending a troubling message that those in power are above the law. "This lack of action undermines public trust in the justice system and sets a dangerous precedent. The NEN is demanding that the police carry out a thorough investigation and bring Yakubu to justice if he is found guilty. "Failure to do so would not only threaten the integrity of justice but also hurt the families of those affected by Yakubu's alleged crimes. “The NEN urges the police to act swiftly to ensure justice is served, and to restore faith in the rule of law," Coordinator of the NEN Suleiman Abbah said in a press statement circulated in Abuja. "NEN recognizes that political violence can have far-reaching consequences, including loss of life and property damage. We will not stand idly by as violence and lawlessness go unpunished. "To this end, the NEN demands greater accountability among politicians, particularly those who are accused of violence. We believe that no one should be above the law, regardless of their status or position in society. "The NEN therefore demands that political leaders and elected representatives focus on justice for victims and recommit to addressing the root causes of political violence. “This includes working to promote dialogue and understanding among different groups, as well as supporting initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and inequality," Abbah said. |
Business / Subsidy Removal: Over 17 Niger Delta Groups Tackle NLC Over Systematic Deception by TriumphStone: 8:29pm On Jun 05, 2023 |
Over 17 Niger Delta Groups, including the Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC), South-South Movement for Good Governance (SMG), the Urhobo Progressive Vanguard (UPV), Niger Delta Women for Change (NDWC), Cross River Youth Democratic Front (CRYDF), and 13 other groups, have expressed deep concern over what they described as “the recurring pattern of deception orchestrated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in matters of critical national importance.” In a joint statement issued by the leaders of the groups, they carpeted the independent oil marketers over immediate hiked in pump prices of petrol as soon as the subsidy removal was announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “in order to sabotage the sincere efforts of the government.” Those who signed the statement include Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, the National Coordinator of the Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC); Barr. Raymond Oporomo, the National President of South-South Movement for Good Governance; Comrade Efemena Esamagu, the President of Urhobo Progressive Vanguard; Mrs. Abigail Asibie, the National Coordinator of Niger Delta Women for Change; Comrade Julius Emaluji, the National President of the Cross River Youth Democratic Front, among others. The groups keenly observed that “on numerous occasions, the NLC has deceived the public by creating an illusion of safeguarding their welfare, only to betray their trust by engaging in backdoor negotiations with the government, ultimately disregarding the plight of the suffering masses.” Cautioning labour unions over their planned strike action against the removal of subsidy on petrol, the organisations said, “We emphatically caution the NLC that it can no longer deceive anyone after having stripped itself of credibility, public trust, and confidence. “We urges Nigerians to be vigilant and reject the NLC's attempts to drag them into a situation with uncertain outcomes it. We urge our compatriots not to fall for the gimmicks employed by the NLC, who seem to be taking advantage of the suffering of the masses for their selfish negotiations. “The NLC must first and foremost provide a comprehensive explanation regarding its absence during the preparation, presentation, defense, and passage of the budget by the former President Muhammadu Buhari's government and the 9th National Assembly, which did not include provisions for subsidy. “It is disheartening to witness opportunistic actions being taken by the NLC only when it suits their agenda, rather than consistently advocating for the welfare of Nigerians”. The groups called on Nigerians to hold the “independent oil marketers accountable for the drastic deterioration of petroleum prices, we vehemently condemn these acts of extortion by the independent marketers who hiked pump prices as soon as the subsidy removal was announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in order to sabotage the sincere efforts of the government. “This inhumane act of wickedness and greed demonstrates a lack of regard for the already burdensome living conditions faced by the Nigerian people. “Moreover, we are not ignorant of the fact that the removal of fuel subsidies has placed an additional financial burden on the Nigerian populace, particularly the most vulnerable segments of society. “The sudden increase in fuel prices has had a ripple effect on the cost of transportation, food, and other essential commodities, further exacerbating the hardships faced by the people. “Therefore, we urge the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to critically review the fuel price template provided by the NNPCL. By reducing the fuel price template, the government will be lessening the financial burden on the masses”. In addition to addressing the immediate concern of the fuel price template, the group called on President Bola Tinubu “to prioritize finding a lasting solution to the inherited issues plaguing the petroleum sector. One crucial aspect that demands urgent attention is the state of the existing refineries. “The continuous reliance on imported petroleum products has not only proven to be economically unsustainable but also undermines our national energy security. “We implore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to proffer a comprehensive and sustainable plan to revamp and rehabilitate the existing refineries within the coming months. “This measure will not only reduce our dependence on imported petroleum products but also create job opportunities, foster local content development, and ultimately contribute to the economic growth and development of our nation. “We urge all stakeholders to work together to build a nation where the welfare of the people is paramount and where the actions of all stakeholders align with the collective goal of a prosperous Nigeria”, they concluded. 1 Like |

Politics / Shocked At Senator Owan Enoh's Continued Fight Against Prince Bassey Otu by TriumphStone: 9:37pm On Jul 10, 2022 |
"Anything Against The People's Will, Fails. Prince Otu's Government Will Be People-driven And Productive." By Obi Ojage We must seek first the face of the Lord in the dictates of its ordinances before we ever embarked on any venture to avoid our going against the will of the Lord our God and the minds of the people through whom the Holy Spirit dins the decision of the Holy Ghost in the void to their spirits what's about to happen in the course of our endeavors. Otherwise, all our efforts at that shall be in vain. Man is God to man. No human has ever seen the Lord of Host and none would. Honestly, I am shocked to see the latest display of Senator Owan Enoh's postal and the write-up which followed on social media with his approval stating the next hearing in the case he instituted against the APC gubernatorial candidate of Cross river state, Senator Prince Bassey Otu. I do not know what all these shows of indifference for one within the same party are tantamount to or where they will lead us, where John, the man at the center of it all, and his group are dragging over an ill-motivated complaint where they're hoping to get judgment I doubt shall ever come nor be in their favor. Ordinarily , I would have just ignored what was going on in Owan Enoh's camp against the party's candidate, Prince Bassey Otu, and awaited the outcome of the ill-fated misadventure. But because from the inception of our movement in support of Prince Otu's candidacy, it has been my sincere belief as the most outspoken person in the group that ran a consistent campaign on social media to propagate Otu's candidacy, I was cocksure that the pairs of the two former Senators in APC both of who, as old members together, sustained the party from imminent implosion that would have occurred as a result of the perpetual rift that bedeviled it, before the decamping of the present state Governor and a handful of those who accompanied him from PDP to join us. These were the perfect move I thought we needed to give us victory over the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Catapillar movement of Senator Sandy Ojang Onor, which I equally predicted would be the pair we'll eventually meet on the other side in the contest of who to succeed the current outgoing Governor. With the prevailing development that is circumventing another experience altogether, I have to make some clarifications here thereto. For the benefit of those who do not know what Owan Enoh went to court for, he is claiming that the candidate of our great party, the All Progressive Congress, APC in cross river state, Prince Bassey Otu who defeated him with a large margin at the last gubernatorial primaries where three of them contested, namely Prince Otu, Senator Owan Enoh and chief Chris Agara, did not have the same clearance letter the two of them had from the screening committee whom the party-appointed Adhoc to carry out such exercises, whereas the eventual winner of the primaries had a clearance given to him by the party National organizing Secretary, who's duties is it to do so. His quarrel however with the whole arrangement is that, since the clearance letter Prince had, from the party, after all, didn't come from the committee proper, and so he feels the actual winner of the contest should be disqualified by the courts for him to be declared the winner on the bases of that minor discrepancy even where he didn't win the primaries and the said winner's name as we speak, has been sent and duly received by INEC by the same party who's a procedure he now shows contempt. These are the grievances. Nothing other than that. I am still at a loss what is it that is behind the compunction of Owan, certainly not what I have enumerated, that have taken to this horrible extent still in pursuit of schemes which are negative in all their aims and purposes? This is no more politics for me. This is vendetta. No one would tolerate this type of activity where we were supposed to be forging ahead on how to position people for an effective campaign arrangement in a few months but one of us is busy instigating rancor. For God's sake, I am not amused by these improprieties continuing unabatedly. By the way, the question to ask here as a layman and not from a lawyer, which I am not if I am permitted is this: (1). Was Owan Enoh who is the candidate in an election, the rightful person to question what the party who has now finally given clearance to its candidate as it does generally to all who were successful in the said contest in which John duly participated to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as her candidate in the overall elections whom the said, committee-members Owan is now referring to, of refusing to issue clearance letters to Prince Otu, as they should, warranting his participation in the contest, the ones to question why Prince, whom they never gave clearance by those the authority vested on but were rather undermined by another body whom they're told gave Prince clearance to run? Conversely, the second question; No. (2). Is it Owan Enoh, and not the party, who was to question the validity or otherwise of the clearance given to Prince Otu to enable him to take part in the primaries by either of the two sources who did issue the authorizations from the party as they both did in the circumstance when none of the candidates have the right to give any interpretation to either of the clearances or whoever the party chooses to use in issuing out any order as it deemed fit, and to whomsoever, it cares to engaged at any given time in the process, as contains in the party constitution? Could this flexible administrative procedure of the party be challenged by anyone as Owan craves to do? If that is not so, by the way, where then is Owan getting his authority or should be getting the authority to question whatever clearance is given to anybody on behalf of the party between the Party Secretary and those who were the original persons authorized to do so according to John since that is not his business whether or not he participated in the primaries in question? Incidentally, the two parties, of clearance issuers, except Owan is the only person talking on this matter to date. The two have both not issued any statement invalidating each other's clearance letters, to substantiate Owan's claims, where then is he going to draw his strength and evidence from or the backing to pursue the matter given the reluctance of those he has mentioned discrediting themselves over each authority to issue clearances which are regarded as being the genuine one. As it stands, none of the issuers of the two clearance letters had complained about the issue? Where is John in this case getting his substance to sue Prince Otu, from, when those he is accusing rightly or wrongly, didn't say anything nor did they disqualify Prince Otu to date. I wonder how such logic would fly. We shall have no choice but to defend the party's candidate at this stage. It's a bunch of distractions. I regarded Owan as one who kept the party alive, just like Prince Otu did, and whose interest should not be brushed aside for any reason, no matter what happens and I thought I was doing my friend and brother, Owan a favor by being in his defense over what he was being accused of against the candidate of Prince Otu, but now I know that I was backing someone who has made up his mind to destroy our candidate, one whom I see in him, sincerity, broad-mindedness with a disposition that is people-driven. Prince Bassey Otu truly represents what the people desire to happen to the state. His is not a matter of propaganda, he truly is a nice man agreeable to all those who have had encounters with him. His Government sure would be people-driven and productive. And that is why we jointly worked for the project to succeed from its inception and shall not relent in our efforts in the areas of our competencies and devotion. In my last publication, I was trying to throw light on why I thought Owan should be approached and persuaded to come on board as Prince Otu's running mate in all sincerity, in my innocence. Because I want us to win the forthcoming Governorship election and go into the election with the decided team, not divided less we fail because I know the danger when those who have special qualities and capacity eager to work, are sidelined for reasons that are excusable the candidate and not those in the party who may have orchestrated such ugly decisions is the one to suffer. I thought that Prince's chances of winning should be our main focus than the euphoria that seems to engulf the entire atmosphere by those opportunists who are trying to catch up with the bandwagon, having motives that are biased for purposes of making themselves relevant when in actual sense they may not do much than fidgeting against those with the genuine motive of seeing to the success of the candidate been dislodged through such innuendos and peremptory. I see Owan as one who would comfortably succeed Prince as Governor after eight years of his leadership in the state, the Lord willing. why not? I do not see any need for such inordinate act which Owan insists on display, for one the Lord has blessed so much at his own time. I am seeing Owan Enoh in ignorance, fighting tooth and nail to upturned the turn meant for someone whose presence like the Prince, now suitable to be enthroned by the same Lord who lifted him, Owan, at the time it did, brings Otu to serve as a cushioning balm to heal the wounds afflicted on the people by the successive government as a part-finder than to usher him, which was why I was pressing hard and appealing like most other persons did, for him to deputize Prince Otu, for balance, equity and result. How long is eight years from now, for one who still has age on his side like John? But by what they're doing, I don't think Otu himself will be pleased and comfortable with this kind of showing by someone he has no grudge against, this much he has told me, trying to stand on the progress he believes is the will of the Lord for him. Senator Owan will certainly not succeed on this ugly showing. Except he withdraws the said case still in court. Whatever he is seen doing is suspect if the case still runs its course. I had all along thought it has been put to rest the moment Prince Otu filled his INEC form and submitted it as the party's candidate, that matter was closed, all we were to be talking about was who to run as Deputy which was why I was stressing that we needed to have effective coverage in the Central Senatorial District with John and chief Chris Agara as the anchormen. And I thought such a position should be given to one who has the structure to accomplish that. And I said this with all amount of responsibility as one who has supported a similar contest in like manner during our struggle to have His Excellency, Mr. Donald Duke as Governor and we won. I thought in all sincerity that since we have both the current Governor, and many heavyweights in the party all in the Northern District, a federal minister in the person of Chief Jeddy Agba, the National Assembly gentlemen including the state party Chairman and others, were to give effective cover there. We need somebody of note equally at the Central not only of repute but one with a structure capable of withstanding the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP's presence at the Districts which was why I was clear and unbiased that John Owan would easily and successfully fulfill that task being a Deputy Governor. That was my reason, pure and straightforward. Owan is my very good friend, Ejagham's brother, and so he is to many people. He is a likable and strong-willed believer in what he can do. He is the junior brother I tern to admire his effort at climbing to the height he has attained so far politically, but all that becoming a liability for allowing all these to get into his head, unfortunately; I think, or someone is misleading him to go astray for their selfish interest. I am not too sure of that. But I am still confused at seeing this for one as successful as Owan has been in politics, who should rather be giving the Lord thanks and forge ahead, and not get into meaningless fighting. In the words of Camilla, a man who counseled the people of his city against killing Apostle Paul: "he may be fighting against the Lord's will if care is not taken". I stand for truth. Senator Prince Bassey Otu is not only our candidate, APC candidate but a man I so cherish and regard deeply for the love he exerts. And he does so for me as well, which is why I am importunate and glued in drumming support for him, as the Director of Media, Publicity, and Propaganda. We must see to the conclusion of this struggle to enthrone goodness and mercy in the face of unwanted greed and injustices prevalent in the land by unpeopled leadership which often breeds tyranny, against which we must move from, thenceforth to freedom and plenty to reach all who breathe the Lord's air under it's Sun and the Moon. End Time Message! GOD WITH US..... 1 Share

Politics is about interest and that's the truth. It's like the South East is ready to stake everything for Peter Obi, just like many other parts of the country are staking their necks, although slowly, for Peter Obi. They have done everything to stain him with stealing and corruption on social media but there has been nothing substantial against #PeterObi. |

Politics / Groups To Battle Lagos Assembly Speaker Over Move To Substitute Winners' Names by TriumphStone: 3:37pm On Jun 13, 2022 |
Nongovernmental groups have warned the incumbent Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa to stay clear from substituting names of winners in the recent primary elections in Lagos State with the names of his cronies as candidates. The groups vowed to mobilise Lagosians for justice to reign if the alleged plans by the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker sails through. To this end, a Lagos based civil rights movement and democracy watch collaborated with another group known as 'Progressive Lagos for Justice and Fair Play' to outrightly condemn in strongest terms the alleged post election activities of the Speaker, Rt Hon. Obasa The Group has threaten to expose the Speaker to the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Lagos state, the state Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor's Adversary Council, and all party stakeholders on the plan by the Speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly to substitute names for already acclaimed winners in the just concluded Party Congresses as candidates for the State Assembly election coming up next year. In another joint press statements signed by Wasiu Adebanjo and Comrade Kunle Fadipe and Latifat Odumosu which red in part, "We wish to appeal to every Progress Lagosians, Democrats and to all it may concern to urgently rescue the democratic process in Lagos state Assembly from the activities of the incumbent Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Obasa against changing the names of successful winners announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) The group wondered why the Speaker who is lawyer and a law makers should throw caution to the wind and subvert the will of the masses as exercised through the recent party Congress two weeks ago where some of the candidates that emerged victoriously and being secretly changed to favour about 7 of his cronies against the names of those who have been duly declared winners in the Congress. It will be in the interest of justice and fair play that Rt. Hon Obasa respect the rights of the Lagosians and their rule of engagement. If the All Progressive Congress Party at the national level can respect the process leading to a widely acknowledged credible election for it's Presidential candidate through the emergence of His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Lagos state Assembly should be allowed by Hon Obasa to run on its own and allow the status quo to suffice. Hon Obasa should not make himself the poster boy that personifies a greedy and selfish democrat having been in power getting to 3 decades and now exercising such power on fraudulent partway to reward loyalists and destroy excellence with mediocrity. Rt Hon Obasa is no doubt making a mockery of our electoral process here in a state know for excellence, thereby becoming a complicit in an effort to foist deception to the public with defies honesty, transparency and good faith. A person with principle and conviction will not be a party to such an unethical arrangement. If he does, it demonstrates his low regard of the people and he should not enjoy their trust. He has not shown any different from a nuisance candidate who is devoid of any intention to serve our people but to commit an undue advantage over, or wreck the chances of, political opponents. “It’s high time to review the law or regulation allowing substitution of candidates except those in cases of death or disqualification; otherwise, there will be no honesty and fair play in our elections. “It is making a mockery of the Lagos APC Congresses and knowingly becoming complicit in an effort to foist fake and perpetrate deception to the public which will never stand no matter his efforts. “It is disheartening that such action which defy transparency and good faith will come from the Speaker one of the biggest beneficiary of democracy and a that is supposed radiate good principle of rule of engagement at all times against such unethical arrangement. “We as a group will mobilize Lagosians against this thrust, which questions the rights of the people of Lagos State and brought it under attack”, the group said. |

Politics / ALGOVC Conference And Award: Council Chairman Intrudes Into Event Venue In Abuja by TriumphStone: 10:41am On Sep 11, 2021 |
...As ALGON BOT Chair Counsels Him The last has not been heard about the leadership tussle in the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) as the embattled Chairman of Suleja Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Maje yesterday stormed the venue of the Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen (ALGOVC) in Abuja uninvited. Hon. Maje has been claiming to be the Chairman of ALGON Interim Management Committee (IMC). This is even as the ALGON Board of Trustees (BOT) chaired by Hon. Odunayo Ategbero has urged Hon. Maje to stop peddling lies by parading himself as IMC chairman and focus on service delivery in Suleja local government. One of the Organizers who pledged anonymity alleged that Maje was never invited. Obviously infuriated but determined to muscle himself into the programme, the Suleja council boss pledged a donation of one million naira to the Vice Chairmen during the book lunch, which was part of the association's programme. However, amid the cold disposition of members and the attendant mortifying feeling after his brief announcement of the donation of one million Naira Hon. Maje then appealed for conferment of award, which further elicited stronger conviction to him that he was an uninvited guest at the event. Recall that Maje has been moving about institutions and Organizations in Abuja parading himself as the Interim Management Chairman of ALGON-a self-proclaimed office that the Board of Trustees of ALGON headed by Hon. Odunayo Ategbero has at several times described as alien to ALGON Constitution. The same Board of Trustees Chairman did not spare Mr. Maje for his irresponsible speech. During his speech on behalf of the National President of ALGON, Hon. Alabi Kolade David whom Ategbero represented at the occasion, he described IMC as dead on arrival which he, Abdullahi Maje had continued to carry it's gasket around. The BOT Chairman said that Maje is a serial intruder and an unrepentant 'meddlesome Interloper' who has no locus to either represent or speak for ALGON. The BOT Chairman used the opportunity to sensitize Nigerians to continue to ignore Hon. Maje and his vituperations again the office and person of Hon Alabi Kolade David his National President. He finally advised Maje to stop peddling lies by parading himself as IMC but concentrate on what can be done in his insecurity-ravaged and infrastructural deficit Suleja Local Government Area to save it from poor representation by delivering services to his people. The Vice chairmen of local governments and councils in Nigeria bestowed on the ALGON national President a leadership and service award.

Nairaland / General / Court Fixes Date To Vacate Order In Suit Between Hon. Maje, ALGON, Its President by TriumphStone: 11:39am On Jul 24, 2021 |
Arising from it's sitting on Friday 23 July 2021, the Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Hon. Justice I. E Ekwo has fixed October 11, 2021 for the Motion to set aside the Order of 29th March 2021 obtained and bandied about by Mohammed Abubakar and his collaborator, Hon. Abdullahi Maje, the Suleja Local Government Chairman. It will be recalled that in filing the Suit and obtaining the Court Order, Mohammed Abubakar misled the Federal High Court into believing he had the consent and authority of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Board of Trustees to file the suit in Court. Following the same pattern of disdain for judicial proceedings, Abdullahi Maje was said to have continued to misrepresent the contents of the Order to the general public! Regarding the Order, Hon Abdullahi S. Maje had falsely claimed, amongst other things, that: The Hon. Judge restrained Hon. Alabi Kolade David from acting as the National President of ALGON; that the Hon. Judge directed the inauguration of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) for ALGON. In obtaining the Order, Abdullahi S. Maje and his Co-traveller, Mohammed Abubakar, was reported to have also misled the men and officers of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command into believing the Court Order empowered them to take over ALGON. The court Order was obtained on 29th March 2021 by suppressing from the Court, the fact that ALGON General Assembly, which the plaintiff sought to restrained, had already been conducted and concluded five days earlier on 24 March 2021. When the matter was called up on Friday, the Counsel to Mohammed Abubakar and Hon. Abdullahi Maje expressed unpreparedness to proceed having only served his response on the Lead Defendant Counsel to ALGON on Friday morning, right in open court. The matter was consequently adjourned to October 11, 2021 by the presiding Judge. ALGON, an Association whose foundation is anchored on rule of law, has maintained its call on the general public to be wary of all falsehood peddled against the Alabi Kolade David led national leadership and pledges to continue to serve the citizens within the ambit of Law and Order. |
