A political ally of former Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar Walama, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Walama, was a two-term commissioner of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs from 2011 to 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), when Dankwambo was governor of the state.

Another commissioner during Dankwambo’s second term in office, Sa’idu Kawuwa Malala, also announced his defection to the ruling APC.

Also, a former special adviser, Maigari Usman Malala, and a former Gombe North Zonal Secretary of the PDP, Mohammed Ya’u, and the Deputy State Treasurer, Baba Bawa, have ditched the PDP for APC.

Dankwambo, who is the leader of PDP in the state is contesting to represent Gombe North Senatorial District under the PDP.

He will slug it out with the incumbent, Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali of the APC, who defeated him (Dankwambo) in 2019.

With the current crisis rocking the party, Dankwambo is in the camp of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

He was conspicuously absent at the weekend, when the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, visited the state to open a campaign office donated by a chieftain of the party, Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna.

Four chieftains of the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, led by Ahmed Abubakar Walama have dumped the party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development is coming following the start of the 2023 General elections when politicians are scampering for more valuable supporters who can add value to their aspirations.

Ahmed Abubakar Walama, who led the politicians dumping the PDP for APC was Dukku local government chairman four different times and twice as a Commissioner in the state while the others are, Sa’idu Kawuwa Malala who was a one-time local government chairman, member of the state assembly and commissioner announced their defection on Monday.

Others are; a former special adviser in the state, Maigari Usman Malala and Mohammed Ya’u, a former youth leader of the PDP in Dukku local government area of the state.

Reports have it that the new APC members have collected their registration cards to show that they are now bonafide members of the ruling party in the state.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Chairman of Matawalle Support Organization in Sokoto State, Alhaji Anas Waziri and hundreds of his supporters have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was contained in a statement issued by Bashar Abubakar, Special Assistant, New Media, to Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North), on Sunday in Sokoto.

Abubakar quoted Waziri as saying, “we decided to leave the party as its leaders had failed to take us to the promised land.

“Our exit from PDP is a sign of victory for APC because of its acceptability across the board.”

Waziri said that as they joined APC, “more PDP members are on the verge of migrating to it.”

He described the APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, as “the best choice for the people of the state as he is gaining more support.”

Receiving the defectors, Aliyu told them that they would be carried along like other members of the party.

He also promised to run an all-inclusive government if elected as governor of the State.

George Edokpolor and hundreds of his supporters and followers have decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a ceremony which took place on Saturday at Ugbogui where he said that “no right thinking person in Ovia federal constituency” should remain with the PDP considering what the member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Dennis Idahosa is doing.

Edokpolor said Idahosa has brought government presence to the people adding that “Mr Dennis Idahosa, has shown that when the right person is entrusted with the peoples mandate, the people will have every reason to rejoice.

“This is what informed our decision to dump the PDP and join hands to return Idahosa to the NationalAssembly so that the people will continue to enjoy good governance. “Idahosa has not been found wanting in the area of representation and there is need for all right thinking Ovia people to appreciate his wonderful performance by sending him back to Abuja to continue with what he has started,” he stated.

The defectors were assured of full integration into the party without discrimination. On his party, Idahosa who used the occasion to reel out his achievements in office said that more work needed to be done because of years of neglect the federal constituency has suffered in the past. The lawmaker however noted that it could only be possible if the people once again offer their support in the 2023 general elections.
