Sao Paulo's civil police force have filed a complaint of slander against Najila Trindade, the woman accusing Neymar of rape. Trindade gave an interview on Brazilian TV and her comments during her conversation have upset the Brazilian police. In an interview with SBT's programme 'Conexao Reporter', she stood by her accusations against the footballer and also accused the police force of corruption. "The police are bought, aren't they? Or am I crazy?" She commented. The police have now responded. "The honour of the police as an institution and that of the experts involved has been tarnished," said a report filed by the police. The Union of Police Commissioners of the State of Sao Paulo and the Association of Police Chiefs commented that they are in solidarity with any victim of gender violence, but also said that they reject conjecture. https://www.marca.com/en/football/international-football/2019/06/13/5d017d26268e3e1a638b4579.html

The veteran defender made African history when she featured in her fifth tournament this weekend. Nigeria international Onome Ebi became the first African player to appear at five editions of the World Cup when she featured in the 3-0 defeat to Norway on Saturday. The 36-year-old, who plays for Henan Huishang, suffered a hand injury in the 2016 African Women's Cup of Nations final but recovered in time for the 2018 edition on the road to France. Ebi's first World Cup was in 2003 but she has failed to progress out of the group stage in all previous outings with Nigeria. In this regard, the reigning Nigeria Women's Footballer of the Year is hoping to leave an indelible impression on her record fifth outing. "I am really excited about my fifth Women's World Cup and all I'm just focused on is giving my best and enjoying the game," Ebi told Goal. "I feel really honoured because I never expected It will the national team for this long let alone of being able to attend my fifth World Cup. "I will also praise myself for hard work and consistency because it's not easy. I'm just hoping that my team can go beyond the group stage because that will be an achievement for me and my team. "Getting out of the group stage is our major target coming to this competition and if we can achieve that, I will be very glad that it happened during my fifth appearance. "We've really worked hard and had the best preparation ever. I believe with the blend of young and experienced players, we will go past the group stage. "We are always talking, encourage and boost ourselves with no panicking and just go all out giving all we've got I believe we will come out in flying colours." After Saturday's loss to Norway, Ebi is aiming to help her side bounce back against South Korea in Grenoble on Wednesday. https://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/nigerias-onome-ebi-makes-african-history-with-fifth-womens-world-/1ufj402t0guw91uzvkl7kvrkft

Below are the top African countries with the harshest law on homosexualism Top African countries with the harshest law on homosexualism |
Botswana’s High Court has overturned a law criminalizing consensual same-sex relations. Under section 164 of Botswana’s Penal Code, same sex relations was an offense that carried a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment. The case was brought to court in March by Letsweletse Motshidiemang, a 21-year-old student at the University of Botswana, who challenged the anti-sodomy laws last year. In a written statement read by the applicant’s lawyers in court, L.M. said, “We are not looking for people to agree with homosexuality but to be tolerant.” When the case was brought before the court , a lawyer for the government argued that the law should not be overturned because it reflects the values of Botswana’s society, and pressed the challengers to provide evidence that those values had changed. But on Tuesday, three judges voted unanimously to revoke the laws. Delivering the ruling, Judge Michael Leburu said the laws were “discriminatory” toward gay people and violated Botswana’s Constitution, arguing that overturning them was a matter of protecting human rights. Botswana joins Angola, Mozambique and Seychelles who have scrapped anti-gay laws in recent years. The ruling comes weeks after Kenya’s High Court refused to scrap laws criminalising homosexuality. https://listwand.com/botswana-scraps-anti-gay-laws/

Three law students from Kenya's Strathmore University has become the first African team to win the John H. The John H Jackson Moot Court Competition on WTO Law which has been organized on an annual basis since 2002 is currently the only global student competition on World Trade Organization law. It is a moot court competition organised by the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) in co-operation with the World Trade Organization (WTO). It is basically a simulation of WTO Panel dispute settlement proceedings. The competition has been instrumental in fostering awareness and in-depth study of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and its dispute settlement system in law schools in many parts of the world. It also provides students around the world with legal knowledge and skill, while building global legal capacity. https://listwand.com/kenyan-university-beat-harvard-to-win-top-moot-court-competition-in-geneva

The presidential candidate of Young Progressive Party in the 2019 Presidential election , Prof . Kingsley Moghalu , has accused the northern elite and politicians of encouraging poverty among the masses for selfish and political reasons. According to Moghalu , the selfishness of the northern political class remains the major cause of poverty and under -development in the region. While speaking as the guest speaker at the Ra ’ ayi Initiative for Human Development annual lecture at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital conference hall , Moghalu wondered why the north , despite being in the saddle of leadership for 42 years , regrettably still remained “ the headquarters of poverty in Nigeria." Moghalu , who was a former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria spoke on the topic : ‘ Northern Nigeria ’ s Prosperity in the 21 st Century: The Imperative of Social and Economic Transformation.' He argued that the solutions for repositioning the north were based on re - setting the people’ s mindset and worldview , insisting that , “ the problem with the north is the north versus itself. Moghalu , urged northerners to prioritise human development , adding that , there was a nagging need to fight youth unemployment , drug abuse and upgrade the status of women in the region. He said the almajiri system of education should be backed with western education , pointing out that there was the need to increase the enrollment of women in schools. “ The north must be modern and the northern Nigeria will not make progress until Nigeria is constitutionally re - structured , ” he added. He argued that if Nigeria was restructured along regional line , it would favour the north , just as he expressed confidence that re - structuring would encourage economic development of the regions, which would in turn build stronger and stable Nigeria. Moghalu said , “ Nigeria cannot develop on feeding bottle federalism . What Nigeria needs at this point remains true federalism that will encourage fiscal independence of the regions. ” He called on northern elite to put heads together in revitalising Kano ’ s industrial prowess, as well as making huge investment in mechanised and value- chain agriculture . ” In his remarks , the Chairman on the occasion and former Kano State Commissioner for Finance , Prof . Kabiru Dandago, said , “ We are here for agenda - setting . The known fact is that in northern Nigeria , all we do is to criticise ourselves and finding faults among our leaders . We waste energy in discussing problems of the north without finding solutions to the problems. “ Our leaders don ’ t take seriously the need to harness our natural resources for the development of the north . Our youths are downgraded to hopeless beings . We have not set the ball rolling on how to develop the north . We have vast population , vast natural resources , we should know what we need , as northerners. ” In his welcome address , the Chairman of RIHD , Dr . Ibrahim Yakubu , said the organisation was a group of like - minds , who were passionate for human development through interventions in healthcare delivery , educational support, as well as supporting the socio - economic development of Kano State and the north in general . https://punchng.com/northern-elite-promoting-poverty-says-moghalu/
