Three students of the Lagos State University have been suspended for alleged rape and cultism .

A statement by the institution ’ s spokesperson , Mr Ademola Adekoya , on Wednesday , said the students ’ indefinite suspension was approved by the Vice - Chancellor , Prof . Olanrewaju Fagbohun .

The affected students , according to the statement , are Akanbi Oloyede , Tobiloba Olutade and Afeez Ogunbowale .

While Oloyede and Olutade were suspended for involvement in cult- related activities , Ogunbowale was suspended for alleged rape.

The statement read in part, “ The Students ’ Affairs Division received information about a fracas that happened on June 20 , 2019, on the campus involving some students and non-students . Our preliminary investigation revealed that the fracas , which started at the Faculty of Management Sciences , was between two rival cults.

“ With the prompt reaction of the Security Department , those who were involved ran out of the campus and some of them were eventually apprehended and handed over to the police .

“ Two of the LASU students , who were involved in the fracas are , Akanbi Oloyede , a 400 - level student of the Department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management , Faculty of Management Sciences , and Tobiloba Olutade , a 400 - level student of the Department of Accounting , Faculty of Management Sciences .

“ In a related development , the VC has also approved the indefinite suspension of Afeez Ogunbowale of the Department of Chemistry Education with matriculation number : 160112046 , over an alleged case of rape . Ogunbowale was reported to have carried out the act on April 18 , 2018.
“ He was apprehended on September 13 , 2018, and subsequently transferred to the Festac Police Station since it is a criminal case . ”
Meanwhile , a 200 - level student of the Faculty of Education, LASU, identified simply as Ruqayyah , was reportedly stabbed while resisting a robbery attack on her .

It was gathered that the Biology Education undergraduate was going to the university campus on Tuesday when she was attacked at Franklas , Iyana Iba .

One of her coursemate , who identified himself simply as Danjuma , told our correspondent that some hoodlums wanted to snatch Ruqayyah ’ s phone and other belongings but she resisted.

He said , “ She was coming to school very early in the morning when she was stabbed . She had a deep cut in her hand . We heard that she was attacked at a quiet place after she attempted to escape from them .

“ When the hoodlums saw people coming towards the scene , they ran away . She eventually did not lose anything to the hoodlums . ”

Reacting to the attack , the President of LASU Students ’ Union, Mr Oladele Olawale , said the victim was in intensive care at the institution’ s health centre .

The LASU spokesman , Mr Ademola Adekoya , described the attack on the student as “ profound wickedness . ”

“ The university is already working with security operatives to improve the security situation in the area , ” he added.

President MuhammaduBuhari has approved part of the funds for the Super Eagles campaign at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt .

This was made known in a media statement made available to Sports Extra by the Nigerian Football Federation Communications Department on Tuesday after the players staged a protest over their outstanding bonuses and allowances at the Helnan Palestine Hotel in Egypt .

The protest saw the Eagles shun Wednesday ’ s pre- match conference and they were 20 minutes late for training ahead of the Group B game against Guinea .

NFF’ s vice president , SeyiAkinwunmi , confirmed that the federation received part of the money on Tuesday morning and immediately started the process to convert the money to US Dollars to pay the players their only outstanding entitlement – the win bonus for the match against Burundi in Alexandria on Saturday evening – and for subsequent matches .

“ We want to specially thank President MuhammaduBuhari for his keen interest in resolving this matter quickly, which has enabled us to receive part of the money in record time , ” Akinwunmi said .

“ We have immediately started the process of converting the money to American Dollars at the Central Bank in order to pay the players the bonus for the win over Burundi three days ago as well as plan for subsequent games . ”

Akinwunmi disclosed that the players and officials have been paid their camp allowances up to the last day of the group phase matches at the AFCON 2019, as well as the appearance fee for the friendly against Zimbabwe in Asaba on June 8 .

“ We have paid these monies through our funds managers , Financial Derivatives Company on Monday , June 24 , 2019.

“ The only issue we had was that some of the players did not send their bank accounts and instead authorised their banks to pay their monies to some other individuals . The banks requested clear authorisation for this to happen .
“ I was on a telephone discussion with the captain of the team Mikel Obi this morning and can safely say that all clarifications have been made and the usual cordial relationship and understanding between the players and the administrators is still intact.

“ I have challenged them to go all out and win the trophy assuring them that their money all the way to the final is guaranteed. It ’ s now for the players to focus on the championship and deliver glory to the nation . I have no doubt of their ability to do that . ”

The whole thing started when an impostor who claimed to be the young man in the Soyinka airplane incident dropped a reply explaining why he did what he did on the plane.. (you can read the article here: https://www.nairaland.com/5262183/young-man-wole-soyinka-leave)

In his reply, the guy claimed he had a PhD from the University of Mannittawiw, and that he was also a lecturer in the same school (spoiler alert: there’s no institution named Mannittawiw on earth) .. He also said he was on the Autism spectrum and needed the view from the window to keep him from getting sick on the plane and that was the reason he insisted on taking the window seat.

Apparently.. Guardian.ng ran the news without even confirming if the information was true or false... Ergo the lambastment on twitter.
