What do you think the fund federal government pay graduates is used for? Let me tell you.

Hi, my name is Williams. I am a Corp member (CM) currently serving. This makes what I want to tell you reasonable and important. At least I am in the system now.

If you don't know, NYSC pay all Corp members an allowance of 33k. Some CMs are furnate to received added allowance from their place of primary assignment (PPA): the place or organization in which they are assigned to work with.

I will be given a rough estimate based on my intuition, experience, and what I feel. An average CM in the country is receiving between 40-50k, plus the money from their PPA.

Now this may sound like a huge amount but wait let me break it down for you.

Just a side note: Most CMs have a common factor of the denominator that is responsible for the fractionationing of this 45k (40+50=90/2=45k).

Let's go!

Here's the breakdown of every penny a CM receives.

#1. Tithe: definitely, not all CMs pay tithe. However, those that pay will eventually minus #4, 500 from their allowance.

Balance = #40, 500

#2. Transport: depending on your PPA, if you're a CM, you will subtract #400 daily for Tfare. This is so because most CMs now seek relocation to places that's more closer to their PPA.

To have a clearer picture, I suggest NYSC should add BioData form for new members should contain a box for CMs current Home address while in service. This will aid the availability of more useful and reliable data

Also, thanks to the NYSC for been considerate with the relocation processes.

Calculations: 400*2=800*3=2,400*4= 9,600

Balance: 40,500 - 9,600=#30,900

#3. NYSC Community developement service (CDS) : if your CDS is very close by, then you're luck. However, most locations for CDS are situated in far places in which corpers spend #150.

Calc. 150*2=300*4=#1, 200

Balance: 30,100-1,200= 28,900


#4. CDS Dues: yes, we pay an average of about 200-500 every month for CDS.

Average: 200+500=700/2=350.

Balance: #28, 900- 350=#28,550.


#5. CDS project: whenever your cds has a special project. You'll contribute an average #500 to support faun d raising.

Balance: 28,050


#6. Feeding: for an average 30 days, you will eat like a prisoner (#300/meal). Break, coke, akara and pap, et cetera.

Calc. 300*3=900*30=#27,000

Balance: #28, 050 - 27,000= #1, 050.


Thinking about other expensive the balance can fit in is hard for me.

I want to believe #1, 050 is what most CMs have left at the end of the month. This is not upto $1 today.


Things CMs need urgently:

1. Health allowance: I personally fell sick about 5 times since I reported to my new place. On average, I spent over #3k for each treatment.

3*5=#15,000 (let's assume every CM is like me).

2. Feeding allowance : corpers are not prisoners so they should eat well. At least 5k/per day for feeding.

5000*30=#150,000-27,000= #123,000


3. Emergency funds: this will be used to handle any unforseen situations that arises.

I suggest and estimate of 10-20k(an average of 15k).



Total fund NYSC allowance should be increased by: 15k +123k + 15k= 153k.


Projected NYSC alawee by this calculation : 153k + 45K= #198,000.

The reality about our nation is this.
