Education / Polyibadan Hostels , Portal In Hibernation; A Call To The Management. by TunAb8(m): 5:08pm On Jan 22, 2020
Sequel to the academic calendar for the 2019/2020 session issued by the management, the stories and reaction of the students fresh in particular are sad and unhappy which has resulted into ineffective smooth-running and scanty flow of academic process so far , thus the “unexplained closure and unallocated hostels associated with an Inaccessible portal.” Hitherto, freshmen who were poised to resume two weeks ago for academia are in a compromised situation. They want to resume fully but cannot because they have no conducive abode.
Many did resume last Monday with their luggage only to return home with their luggage in tow and grief, many of which were residents of far away from the institution. Where do you expect Students to live ? This is a question that demand quick action from the management thus, some remain at home, while activities drag on.

Students waiting aimlessly at the front of OLORI HALL OF RESIDENCE
Back in the days, The Polytechnic, Ibadan about was known for abiding by the scheduled academic calendar but over the years, the reverse is the case hence, this is not to slander the managerial procedures; but its worth note that sequel to the school’s official resumption date for 2019/2020 academic session whih was stated for the 6th and 13th of January, 2020 respectively, their is still reluctance in things getting into action.

Freshmen roam the environ full of innocence and ignorant of the vices of campus because they are as their name implies… “fresh”. They’ll be extorted harassed and scared. With the precarious state of security around school, you have to cut the security some slacks, they can only do so much. And the safest place on campus is still the “hostels

However, the words ruminating on everyone’s mouth is, ‘the portal has not been opened?’ and all manner of similar questions. So, Press Council reached out to the management staffs concerning the aforementioned situation, it quite disheartening to tell you we got nothing concrete, the answers where even dissimilar from one another.

While we spoke to a staff of the CIDM, who claimed anonymity, “students are expected to pay their school fees before commencing hostel fees payment.” Now this seems plausible, until you discover that the school fees portal is not even available.

Moreover, the E-Clearance portal which is new innovation by the institution has also taken a setback, some students have called in to complain about unsuccessful attempt, some even say its not going through.
While speaking to Press council correspondence, Azeez a student of Geology ND1 “the portal is given somebody proem , it is slow to upload and it’s not going”
Wuraola a student of Library and Information Science, the portal is a big wahala because some that have done the E-clearance are still showing yet to be cleared on their portal ” while Blessing from Insurance HND 1 showed his grief about the online clearance.
Hence, paving way for exorbitant and fraudulent nature of some cyber cafés on ignorant student.
A student who doesn’t even know what steps to take is liable to be cajoled plying the frustrated portal, won’t he/she pay any price for the service the café claimed to render? Some charge them at #2000, #1500 while some that are considerate charge with humanity in their heart.
Apparently, the registration according to the management is supposed to close this Friday, and failure to meet up attracts a late registration fee penalty. This is paradoxical and contradictory to say the least.

E- Clearance portal
At the Press Council, we have received countless calls from prospective students, concerning the portal. And for an entity that is supposed to publicize information, it is duly shameful for us to say we’re ignorant too. Obviously, the school management owes the students in general. The institution has made some creative and modern innovations, But at times, it often comes off as counterproductive. Without the hostels being opened, students would not resume, if they don’t, then lecturers would be teaching empty or scanty classes.
The entire Press Council, Students is oblivious, the hostel supervisors and hall wardens seemed as oblivious about the matter as everyone else is. So, we use this medium to ask whoever is in change,

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE SCHOOL HOSTELS ?
WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE SCHOOL PORTAL?

Education / Re: Polyibadan Hnd Entrance Exam 2019/2020 Session Cut-off Hike. by TunAb8(m): 6:22pm On Oct 22, 2019
TunAb8:
It is no longer news that the cut-off points for the recently concluded Higher National Diploma (HND) entrance examination into The Polytechnic, Ibadan has been released.

It a generalized perspective, it didn’t come off as a surprise that when the cut-off was revealed to the stage, it was to the utter shock of all candidates. This surprise, of course, is of polar views. Few were elated, and a very large some were appalled.

This latter largely includes aspirants into the department of Civil Engineering, Mass Communication and Computer Science. Which had the points average of 88%, 84% and 88% respectively.

In a conservative opinion, its grossly too much. 88% is too much to be used as a grade point for anyone. Even the best Universities do not use such. After investigation, it was discovered that each candidate had answered 25 questions each, each going for four marks. Which is to say that the only way to pass is scoring at least 22 questions right. 22 out of 25! Yes.

What makes it more disturbing is the discovery that the department of Physics with Electronics has a cut-off of 8. This is also a very difficult course in its own. So It is hard to fathom that on one side of an institution, a student would require to score at least two questions right, whereas another would require twenty-two.

Obviously, the cut-off is calculated statistically. That is, the amount of admission slots with respects to the rate of high score. And one could understand that it is very possible for a student to achieve a score of 90%. However, it is also not logically possible to believe that more than 50% had scored over 88%.

This would then imply a long con is happening somewhere. Some would like to imply that the questions were leaked beforehand. With investigation carried out amongst affected candidates, it was realised that the case of Computer Science and Civil Engineering is occurring the second consecutive year.

The cut-off mark for Civil Engineering last year was 65%, while that of Computer science and Mass Communication were 70% and 75% respectively, before skyrocketing to 88% and 84%. This, absolutely, would depict the Institution’s admittance of best brains. On the contrary, it may not be so, because what if the prospective students had access to the questions before hand?

Conversely, it’s hard to believe how another Engineering department, Electrical Engineering to be exact would have a cut-off of 12%, while Civil Engineering would have seven times that. It is even amazing to know that this department admits no less than other departments with the average of hundred students.

During the investigation, a young man who was trying this examination for the second time, and repeatedly failing narrowly talked with PRESS COUNCIL. This applicant, Olaniran Timothy missed out on the 2018/2019 after scoring 60 against a cut-off of 65. And when he tried again after vigorous study, he scored a whopping 80 percent. And he had already begun rejoicing only to discover that he had be edged past by 8 marks. Timothy complained bitterly as to how the institution expected more of him after clinching a score of 80. He also admitted to have heard that the question had been leaked to a few.

Nepotism as eaten into our bones. who is to say that the questions weren’t leaked by some members of staff of the department or institution to some favoured personals. How can the public be sure that more than the 50% of the students who scored over 88% did not cheat? We live in a corrupt nation; we all can attest to that.

An applicant to the department of Mass Communication, who wouldn’t like his name to be disclosed said that the whole cut-off hike was a targeted ploy at departments with the highest numbers of applicants to force them into applying for the Daily Part Time Programme (DPP).

“The thing with the DPP programme is that it is much more expensive than the actual full time programme, over 50% much expensive. And with the state of the economy, is this a right action from a public institution? The more discouraging aspect of applying for the Daily Part-time programme was that graduates of such programme was not eligible to partake in the National Youth Corps Service (NYSC).”

The general populace find it quite unfair on some students who are well meaning and might not have come across the leaked questions to be punished in such manner. With the interview slatted for 23rd and 24th of October, 2019, it’s safe to say that nothing can be salvaged by those who could not meet up with the cut off. This is unfortunate, and the ship has now long sailed to the middle of the ocean and cannot be boarded.

However, the management should look closely into the process of examination preparations and markings so as to avoid such discrepancies in the future. Simply because events like these may not be the justifiable process of admitting the best brains, and this is embarrassing to the great name of the institution.

Saintp:
Lol.The writer is exaggerating Nigeria. Nigeria has nothing to offer for world powers to be scared or contain them. Nigeria has not even reached the level of Iran. The writer should be more concerned about Nigeria solving her basic problems like electricity ,water, roads, health care system etc instead of worrying about US bases.
It's called a contingency plan.

things Nigeria have are population. potential. Population.

With 200mn people and still counting, the UN estimates us to reach 450mn by 2050.
I don't know about you, but that's enough to scare anyone.

With our population people are shouting overpopulation.
Now imagine double, someone must suffer, and if Nigeria happened to have had a revolution between this time, we're likely to be aggressive. And aggressive Nigerians can start moving into neighbouring countries en masse. Before you know it Nigerians would dominate Africa in everything.
Now all I've said haven't involved military threat.

Now Nigeria has more men than women. Let's say 200MN men. In case of a war. About 40 million men could be drafted.

That's more than most countries population. Now tell me how many countries can invade such.
Unless you use nuclear weapons. Which has been banned from using against countries that don't have.

Another reason is Niger, Chad and Northern Nigeria are rich in radioactive materials. Enough to make a nuclear arsenal, they fear that if Nigeria can for once move in the right direction. We'd capitalize on that opportunity. And once we've got enough, we're out of their reach. They can try sanctions and all.
But Nigeria unlike North Korea can actually feed itself.

But all these I've stated, involves Nigeria going in the right direction. Which it doesn't seem like we are so....

I dont think that American need all those things to deal with Nigeria that has the lifeless one as the president.

They can just come straight from their base, beat us and go back. They can even beat us home and awayaway grin

It's not that easy, they wouldn't want it to drag, if it takes longer than they want, Russia, China, Iran could intervene.
But if it's swift, the deal would have been done before the world knows.

USA also surrounded the South China Sea just because of this.

Note that Syria doesn't have half our population but have been resisting the US for seven years of deadly war. Same with Vietnam. Libya fell, but we should know that when it comes to war, this northern brothers would fight to death, they aren't cravens like us in the South.

Do you go around touching random men?

No woman will say you rape her because you met in a bus, not even in the USA will such happen.
Note there is a great difference between harassment(not leaving someone alone) and rape.
That is why there is no jail time for the former.

I call bullshit.
I've heard of a case where a man collided with a woman on the road and she accused him of sexual assault and stalking. He was jailed.

To add to that, she's $900,000 richer.

Now, most sensible parents especially here in Mississippi are warning their male kids to stay off females!
No one wants the son, grandson, great grandson to be labeled rapist.. I visited Natchez, and while I was with a friend, he picked up a call and told his longtime family friend to tell him whatever she wants to tell him on phone, and not mind visiting his home even when the wife is around. Immediately he dropped the phone he told me he doesn't want be labeled a rapist..
A protest by students at the Mississippi State University triggered people to warn their kids to stay off girls.

That's some good stuff, if only everyone can tell this to their son.

I wonder how you do it over there, but judging by the media, I think all men should live in fear.

The 4th wave of feminism is some consipracy shit. And they will eat up men real quick if we don't take it all back. Which we can.

Are you guys this dumb?

Why would Ronaldo pay her hush money to keep her silent in the first instance and request she signs a non disclosure agreement?

He has been charged with rape previously and at this point I would believe what this lady says over what Ronaldo says.

It is not witch Hunt if she feels still bad and affected by the actions after years. She may have been naive and scared as at then to have signed such but nothing stops her from seeking justice or more money if she feels violated and thinks the more money would soothe the pain she feels.

If Ronaldo didn't want his name all over he should not have gone all the way with her.

Even excerpts from the reveal directly from German DEL Spiegel which is one of the most reputable German newspaper states clearly this.

"That Cristiano Ronaldo hired a team of “fixers”, known as “personal reputation protection specialists” (defendants DOES I-XV and ROE Corporations I-XV, and hereafter referred to as the “team”), to:

Develop and implement a strategy to delay, diminish or eliminate plaintiff’s claim for civil damages arising from the sexual assault on June 13, 2009."

So what in hell are you fan boys trying to label the Lady a gold digger when she was actually raped and Ronaldo did agree she said no at some point?

This is quite interesting, is it not.
Let's not get started with how much you hate him.
Now let's you back to the logic of the situation.
Clearly the woman would have no problem if he stuck it to the front.
Hence the rape anally label, now I'm not saying its right.
But she must have agreed to sex at some point, and Ronaldo might have gone anal in ecstasy.
And to refer to that as rape would be too extreme.
He had consent, not just explicit one.

There you have it boys. She wants in in his money.

We'll be witnessing more baseless rape allegations against prominent men in coming days Dr. Ford has open the gate for them.

Honestly I just weak.
I've never felt so uneasy with the female sex as I feel now, it's a virtue I'm in Nigeria. Coz at this level, I doubt I would touch any woman if I were in USA.
Imagine running into a woman in the bus in 2018 then in 2034, that same woman you can barely remember comes out and say you rape her.
