Prince Uche Secondus, the immediate past national chairman of the main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has praised the leadership qualities of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP. Secondus also expressed optimism that Obi holds hope for the chances of Nigeria having a credible leader. He stated this while congratulating the former Anambra Governor for attaining 61 years old yesterday (Tuesday). Secondus, in a statement by his media aide, Ike Abonyi, stated that Obi exhibited “exemplary leadership” and “frugal attitude” during his eight years as governor of Anambra State, adding that he stood out as a “generational leader.” He said, “Obi’s exemplary Leadership quality as exhibited in his eight-year tenure in Anambra state stood him out as a generational leader. “Your frugal attitude to public funds is worthy of emulation, especially for a struggling country like ours.” Secondus also stated that the strength of character and reputation Obi has brought into the nation’s polity has added enormous value to the nation’s political system. The PDP former chairman described Obi as his friend, stating that he had brought a “unique and positive style” into the nation’s public life and wished him more blissful years ahead https://dailypost.ng/2022/07/20/peter-obi-holds-hope-for-nigerias-prominence-secondus/ Lalasticlala

BigSarah:Rotime Amaechi was meant to lead the campaign today |
Rotime Amaechi who suppose to lead the final campaign for Osun governorship election and Osibanjo, Uzodima, Lalong, Elrufia, Ayade, Umahi are some of the heavyweight APC that failed to show at Osun state today, this clearly show that all is not well with APC after nominating another Muslim for running mate to Tinubu, especially Christian governors in APC Lalasticlala

The village head of Fagbohun community in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Simeon Fagbohun, has accused the officers of the Nigeria Customs Service of invading the settlement causing villagers to flee their houses. The accusation came days after the lifeless body of a customs officer was found in a river near the community, and another one declared missing following a clash between the officers and suspected smugglers. Mr Fagbohun, who told journalists that the invasion was a reprisal, said the killing of the officer did not happen in his community. He said the officers were attacked in Iya Sango village, five kilometres away from Fagbohun. “I am here to clear some misinformation that I have read on the social media about our community about the death of some customs officers in that area,” said Mr Fagbohun. “It is not in Fagbohun village the custom officers were killed, it is in Iya Sango village that they killed them but, the village is now defunct. It is the Ohori people that now stay in Iya Sango, they make little settlements there and are doing farming. “This Iya Sango village is in Yewa land but Fagbohun is a village these smugglers used to pass, it is the biggest village on that axis, which has vulcanizers and schools. “Those smugglers have a stopover in our village to fix their tyres and also eat. They stopped in a place called Eti Odo in Fagbohun village.” The alleged attack Mr Fagbohun said he was in Ilaro on October 26 when got a call around 7 p.m. that customs officers had arrested his elder brother and were taking him to an unknown destination. He said he was told that some smugglers had killed some of the officers. The village head accused the customs officers of setting houses in the village ablaze, adding that villagers now live in fear. “We saw that they have burnt the house of Adeoye Fagbohun, one of the sons of Fagbohun family, he is an elder brother to me, they burnt his house with three motorcycles. He is the one doing vulcanizing in the junction of the village where his house was, his vulcanizing machine was also burnt inside the house. “Iya Alate’s house was also burnt, we all saw it with the police, there were three motorcycles in that house also. The house of Nathaniel was also burnt with one motorcycle. We now saw that the remaining houses like that of the Akao family in the village, they entered the house and brought out the motorcycles in the house and burnt them, three motorcycles were burnt there also.” Mr Fagbohun said the officers did not burn Odunaro house but they took the motorcycles owned by people in the house and burnt them outside the house. They also did the same to the Ogundipe house, according to him. “I also saw that they went into my own palace too, they looted my palace, they didn’t burn motorcycles in front of my house but I can’t find two motorcycles in my house. “Also, our pumping machine, the farmers in the village bought, we want to use it for irrigation in the dry season, five pumping machines, they removed them from the cartons and we can’t find them. “The machine we used to spray herbicides and other chemicals on the farm, seven of them have been taken, about 20 cartons of them are also missing, all my doors were forced opened.” The police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident but said he could not ascertain who the attackers were. He said the police will stop at nothing to unravel the perpetrators. Customs react The spokesperson of the Ogun Area 1 command of customs, Hammed Oloyede, said he has no knowledge of an invasion by the officers. The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Operating Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, Lagos, Theophilus Duniya, also denied there was an invasion. He said although the command had lost two of its officers to the attack in the area, the operatives did not take the laws into their hands. He said seven suspects were arrested with Dane guns and matchets and had been put in custody as murder suspects. “In as much as we seek to have justice for the slain officers, we cannot take the laws into our hands by destroying people’s property. So, whatever the claims are, were not executed by our operatives,” he said. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/492910-suspected-customs-officers-invade-ogun-village-burn-houses.html Lalasticlala |

party, All Progressives Congress, which was held on Saturday, experienced a huge setback as a result of divisions within the party. SaharaReporters learnt that in Lagos State, the ruling party APC had three parallel congresses with one of the factions led by a former governor, Akinwunmi Ambode. SaharaReporters gathered that the national leadership of the party under Yobe State Governor, Mala Buni, recognised Ambode’s faction and his list of executives which is part of a coup and ongoing efforts to weaken the influence of the National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu. Top sources revealed that Ambode's faction was sponsored by Buni, who is the Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee so as to weaken Tinubu in his perceived stronghold. “Lagos APC had three separate congresses; the people elected in Ambode’s faction and congress are backed by Buni. It is a coup against Tinubu,” a top source revealed. SaharaReporters obtained the list of the state executives elected by Ambode's faction; they are; Beatrice Omotayo Tugbobo, Chairman; Alhaji Dauda, Vice-chairman; Hon. Prince Adedeji Osho, Secretary; Hon. Akewushola Onoyemi, treasurer; Balogun Adekunle Hameed, Publicity Secretary; Youth Leader, Buhari Babajide Jimoh and Woman Leader, Ashafa Salawat. Others are: Financial Sec, Prince Moruf.A. Anibire; Organizing Sec., Olamiji Alilu; Auditor, Adeosun Iyiola Abiodun; Legal Adviser, Wasiu Adeyemi Sulaimon; Youth Leader, Adelaja Moruf; Welfare Officer, Olusegun Moruf Bello; Ex-officer 1, Ibrahim Misbau Omoniyi; Ex-officer 2, Babatunde Collins Davies. SaharaReporters had last weekend reported how ailing Tinubu quietly returned to the country after months of extensive medical treatments in the United Kingdom and the United States. It had also been reported that the APC in Lagos State had sent out a circular to its leaders across the state informing them that the Sunday welcome party being organised for Tinubu would not be held as earlier scheduled. SaharaReporters had learnt that the APC sent the circular, signed by Alhaji Tunde Balogun (APC State Chairman), and Alhaji Maroun Are (GAC Secretary) to the party leaders believably at the ward and local government levels, without giving a specific reason for the change of plan. SaharaReporters, however, gathered that the cancellation was due to the exclusive report published by this medium, which forced them to abort it abruptly. In the circular obtained by SaharaReporters, the APC leaders were told that a new arrangement for welcoming Tinubu would be announced later. “Dear leader/GAC member, you are hereby informed of change in plans/arrival of our National Leader billed for Sunday. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the plans/arrival have been put on hold. A new plan/arrival will be unfolded soon. Sorry for any inconvenience this hold may have caused. Thank you,” the notice had said. SaharaReporters had reported that Tinubu confirmed that he went through a challenging health crisis, saying his “physiotherapy was gruesome.” Tinubu said this while addressing members of the House of Representatives northern caucus who visited him in London last Friday. The former governor, who had been in the United Kingdom for the last three months since undergoing knee surgery, told the gathering, “Because of God and people like you, I am well. It is just the physio (physiotherapy) that is gruesome.” Since his departure, Tinubu’s London home has become a mecca of sorts as he has been visited by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Governors Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), and Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti). SaharaReporters had reported that Tinubu underwent knee surgery at the John Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, US. The APC chieftain, it was learnt, left the US for the United Kingdom on crutches, a few days after the surgery. Sources close to Tinubu told SaharaReporters that he wanted the surgery in Paris, France but changed his plan after rumours of his death spread in Nigeria. “Tinubu had his second surgery at John Hopkins University in Maryland recently. He was accompanied by a popular Nigerian doctor in Chicago. He had wanted the surgery in Paris but when rumour was rife about his death, he hurriedly left for Nigeria and went to John Hopkins,” one of the sources had said. "He left the US for the UK on crutches," another source revealed. SaharaReporters had on July 31 reported that Tinubu, who has had several medical trips this year alone, had surgery about two weeks earlier and could be billed for another one. The APC National Leader has been off official and party functions in the country for a while, amidst talks that he is being positioned for the 2023 presidency to succeed the incumbent repressive regime of Buhari. The APC state congress which held nationwide on Saturday did not hit a crisis only in Lagos but in most states of the South-West. Earlier today, two persons were said to have sustained injuries from gunshots fired by some unidentified persons who invaded the venue of the state Congress organised by a faction of the All Progressives Congress in Osogbo, Osun State. The incident happened around 12.50 pm after the congress organised by the Osun Progressives, a faction of APC backed by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, had commenced the process of electing new executives. A car with about five occupants that were armed with guns was seen driving along Osogbo/Gbongan Road towards the entrance to the venue of the Congress. The vehicle was eventually prevented from advancing to the entrance to the venue of the Congress held at Ladsol Bus Stop, Ogo Oluwa, Osogbo, by another group leading to an exchange of gunshots between the two groups. Also, in Ogun state, the Ake palace in Abeokuta was cordoned off by police officers believed to be from the Ogun State Police Command and officers of the Department of the State Security Services. The officers had allegedly been sent by the faction of the APC loyal to Governor Dapo Abiodun to lock up the venue of the parallel congress of those members loyal to former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, preventing party faithful from gaining access. Many people believed to have been mobilised for the parallel congress were seen loitering around the palace, and unable to enter the venue. Meanwhile, the national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress suspended the congress in Oyo over “irregularities”. |

Rivers State has topped 35 other states in fiscal performance ranking, followed closely by Ebonyi and Anambra states. The state with an Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) plus VAT of 139, 762,130,401, total revenue of 270,378,440,333, operating expenses of 113,649,262,851, operating expenses plus loan repayments of 129,661, 453,859 and capital expenditure of 168,359,956,753 ended the year 2020 with a total debt of 303,681,058,491. This is in comparison with Lagos state that ranks 4th on the list with an IGR plus VAT of 549,958,774,901, total revenue of 658,563,824,000, operating expenses plus loan repayments of 536,342,204,000 and capital expenditure of 304,986,590,000 with a total debt of 1,043,242,927,772. This is according to BudgIT’s report on states fiscal performance ranking index, launched yesterday in Abuja. The report was titled, ‘State of states 2021 edition, fiscal options for building back better.’ Head, Research and Policy Department BudgIT, Abel Akeni who gave a breakdown of the report said: “From our assessment of the 36 states, based on our evaluation of how they prioritize their expenditure and their revenue generation capacity, we have seen that certain states have more capacity to meet some of their expenditure obligations than others. We have a whole methodology which we use in evaluating states performance and with the methodology, we arrived at a ranking for all the states and in it, Rivers state comes first, meaning it is performing well in all the four indexs we used for the model. “Rivers state has a solid IGR generating capacity, they are also able to prioritize capital expenditure better than their recurrent expenditure, they were one of the five states in the country that spent more on capital expenditures than recurrent. Ebonyi significantly prioritized expenditure, it spent more on capex than its operating expenses and that is something that we will like to encourage for several states. “The others are Anambra, Lagos and Kebbi. Ebonyi and Kebbi are new entrants into this year’s top five and it is largely because of improvement in their IGR. For the bottom five we have Adamawa, Kastina, Benue, Taraba and Bayelsa and it is largely because of its high operating expenses, the high cost of running the government in Bayelsa, compared to their revenue generating capacity. It has the third highest operating expenses in the country after states like Lagos and Delta and the question is what is driving its large operating expenses?” |
