Religion / 2 Nigeria Pastors Kidnapped After Gunmen Storm Church Camp by turboG: 4:15pm On Mar 30, 2016 |
2 Nigeria Pastors Kidnapped after Gunmen Storm Church Camp Two Nigerian pastors remain captive after gunmen stormed a Christian campsite on March 21. Christian Today reports the gunmen kidnapped three pastors, but released Rev. Iliya Anto due to health concerns. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Dziggau and Rev. Yakubu Dzarma remain in captivity. The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of 100 million naira ($500,000) for their return. The pastors were at the campsite to set up for an Easter church retreat. All three pastors belong to the United Church of Christ in Nigeria (TUCCN). Rev. Jibrailu Wobiya, who escaped the gunmen with other church members said, “We were all holding a prayer meeting at the prayer camp located along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway in the city of Kaduna… We were working on the camp site in preparation for our forthcoming church conference when the kidnappers invaded the place and began shooting into the air.” The TUCCN, as well as the Christian Association of Nigeria have urged the Nigerian government to track down the gunmen and ensure the release of the captives. Rev. Musa Asake, national secretary for the Christian Association of Nigeria also asked for prayer for the situation. “We kindly request all men and women of goodwill to join faith with us as we lift our eyes in prayer unto the hills of heaven; we have an assurance that our help ultimately comes from God, the maker of heaven and earth, and indeed the Author of life. Our God will not let us down,” he said. Religion / 3 Steps To Eliminating Negative Self-talk. by turboG: 1:05am On Mar 30, 2016 |
3 Steps to Eliminating Negative Self-Talk. Who are you listening to? Jesus warns us that we have an enemy whose strategy is to steal our self-worth by whispering small, but believable, lies into our minds. “You’re not valuable. You’re not worth anything. You’re not beautiful. You’re not smart enough.” These lies begin to pile up, slowly and methodically destroying our passion for life. Before long we become victims to our own negative self-talk. If you start to believe the lies, you will base your actions and decisions on a foundation of lies and never discover your true beauty. But Jesus tells us the truth will set us free. This truth, found in the Bible, offers us three very practical steps for eliminating negative self-talk from our minds. 1. Discover how God sees you. Christ tells us to find our true worth in him. In Ephesians 2:10, he tells us that we are “God’s masterpiece.” God loves you completely and unconditionally, and he designed you for a purpose! The way you look, think, and act is part of his special plan for you. Think about the night sky for a moment. When you look at the stars, you can’t help but stand in awe of the intricate detail and love put into them by the Creator. Every star is individually gorgeous and unique just the way it is. God feels the same way about you! He designed you exactly the way he wanted you to be. You’re designed to play a unique part in this world. Look to the one who designed you and called you his “masterpiece” to find out who you really are. When you begin to explore the truth of who God made you to be, you’ll be set free from the chains of negativity to experience a meaningful life full of joy, full of peace, and full of value! 2. Choose the right friends. In this hurting world we live in, it’s vital to surround ourselves with friends who will stand in the struggle with us, and who will build us up in the battle. We have to choose our friends wisely because, whether we want to or not, we will become like the people we hang around. When I started my freshman year of college, I didn’t know anyone. I felt totally out of the loop, as if I was never going to find a close group of friends. It was awful. But I felt God telling me that if I would just wait, he would bring the right people into my life at the right time. So while everyone around me seemed to have found their lifelong friends, I patiently waited for mine. Was it easy? Not at all. I hated it, actually. But was it worth it? More than anything! It was worth being lonely for a semester to receive those beautiful friends. If you are a student changing schools or going off to college, it’s tempting to rush into the first group you find; none of us want to feel awkward or unwanted. But I encourage you to wait on God. Hold out for the friendships that he has selected for you. When you surround yourself with positive, godly friends, you’ll start reflecting Christ’s love and eliminate a lot of negative self-talk. 3. Focus on your eternal character. All of the hours I spend in front of the mirror trying to look pretty have no value for eternity. But the time I spend reflecting the beauty and love of Christ to others will make a lasting difference. We all waste so much time trying to make our temporary bodies look good, but we spend very little time making sure our eternal character is attractive. Jesus said the only things that matter and are eternal are loving God and loving others. Love is our purpose and calling on this earth. When you spend your time getting to know God and becoming more like him, negative thoughts about yourself will dissipate. You will become more joyful as your focus turns outward to helping and encouraging others. So the question is: Are you going to spend most of your time on things that won’t last, like being popular, partying, and changing your body, or will you dedicate your time to things that will last forever? When you change your perspective and think about life in light of eternity, negativity will be replaced by a radiant joy that has no other explanation but God! Discovering how God sees you, choosing the right friends, and focusing on your eternal character all promote positive self-talk based on the truth of God’s word. Each of these steps enable us to take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ. So who are you listening to? The negative self-talk of the enemy’s lies or the truth that sets you free? Be intentional. Make the choice to believe God’s truth about you. Learn More @: http://www.divdel.com/blogs/2016/03/3-steps-to-eliminating-negative-self-talk/ |

Disney to Boycott Georgia over Gay Marriage Bill The Walt Disney Company is threatening to stop filming in Georgia if the state's governor signs a bill that would protect a pastor's right not to perform gay marriage ceremonies. The bill would also "protect property owners which are religious organizations against infringement of religious freedom." Disney owns Marvel, which has shot major films at Pinewood Studios outside Atlanta. Such a boycott would be a significant loss for the state. The NFL is also threatening to bypass Atlanta as a Super Bowl destination if the religious freedom bill is passed. What does this news mean for those of us who support biblical marriage? Suicide Bomber Kills 65 Christians Celebrating Easter at Pakistan Children's Park Blasphemy execution goes from good news to bad news for persecuted Pakistani believers. A suicide bomber targeted Christians celebrating Easter at a children’s park in Pakistan’s second-largest city, killing at least 65 and wounding 300, reports the Associated Press. The Lahore park, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, is “a popular site for members of Lahore's Christian community, many of whom had gone there to celebrate the Easter weekend holiday,” reports Reuters. The crowd was “unusually large” because of Easter, an official told Pakistani newspaper Dawn. A Taliban splinter group, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, took credit for the attack and said it deliberately “targeted the Christian festival of Easter,” reports the Wall Street Journal. “It was deadliest attack in Pakistan since the December 2014 massacre at an army-run school that left 143 people dead, most of them children, and marked a devastating new turn in militant violence against Pakistani civilians,” reportsThe Los Angeles Times. Christians were bracing for a bloody Easter Sunday after a blasphemy-related death sentence stoked Islamist anger last month. Five years ago, Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer—one of the most prominent supporters of Asia Bibi and critics of the blasphemy laws which have the Christian mother facing a death sentence—was assassinated by his bodyguard. In October, the nation’s Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Taseer’s bodyguard, Mumtaz Qadri, and sentenced him to death. In February, Qadri was hung. The execution was good news for Pakistani Christians—who are often the target of the country’s blasphemy laws—and their advocates. However, the execution led an estimated 10,000 of Qadri’s supporters to protest on Sunday, marching into the capital city … Continue Reading .... http://www.divdel.com/blogs/2016/03/suicide-bomber-kills-65-christians-celebrating-easter-at-pakistan-childrens-park/ |

Should Christians Celebrate Easter Sunday? Here we are, Easter Sunday approaching, and sadly we are receiving more questions about the Easter bunny than we are about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Among Christians, there is a significant divide in convictions regarding Easter Sunday. Some Christians have the conviction that the Easter bunny and Easter eggs are innocent cultural traditions that can be incorporated into Easter Sunday. Other Christians are vehemently opposed to the Easter bunny and Easter eggs, pointing to horror stories involving pagan rituals and child sacrifices to Spring fertility goddesses. It is entirely true that the Easter bunny and Easter eggs traditions have decidedly non-Christian origins. There is some debate as to the precise origins, but it is pretty much universally accepted that their origins are in Spring fertility rituals. Why bunnies? Bunnies are very fertile creatures. Why eggs? Eggs symbolize new life about to blossom. Why Spring? Winter symbolizes death, Spring symbolizes a fresh start. While there were undeniably some evil practices in some cultures in regards to Spring, and of course these practices should be completely avoided, the core concepts behind celebrating the arrival of Spring are not inherently evil. In a sense, Spring can even be understood to symbolize the resurrection. Where there was once death (Jesus’ death and burial), there is now new life (Jesus’ resurrection). So, while Christians should never allow bunnies and eggs to become the focus of Easter Sunday, I do not think Christians should crusade for the absolute abolishment of such things. We have to remember that the non-Christian world around us is just that – non-Christian. We should not expect non-Christians to have the same beliefs, practices, and traditions as Christians. Non-Christians see Christians boycotting Easter eggs due to Spring fertility rituals which occurred 1000+ years ago as ludicrous and absurd. Non-Christians inherently view the things of God as foolishness (1 Corinthians 2:14). We do not need to add to this spiritual blindness (2 Corinthians 4:4) by behaving foolishly ourselves. It is sad to see some Christians fighting so strenuously against Easter Sunday that they do not have time to celebrate what the day is supposed to be all about – the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Fine, let’s start calling it Resurrection Sunday. But, if we are going to do that, shouldn’t we actually focus on celebrating the resurrection? Maybe if non-Christians see us joyfully and wholeheartedly celebrating the resurrection instead of harassing anyone who dares to paint an Easter egg or eat a chocolate bunny, maybe, just maybe, they might be curious as to what is different about us. Changing “Easter Sunday” to “Resurrection Sunday” is fine – just don’t forget to celebrate the Resurrection!tweet Imagine that! Christians being called peculiar for celebrating our relationship with Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:9). Christians being identified by their love for God and love for each other (John 13:35; 1 John 2:7-17). Christians being known for what they stand for, not for what they stand against. He is risen! He is risen indeed! http://www.divdel.com/blogs/2016/03/should-christians-celebrate-easter-sunday/ |

Can Christians watch horror movies? Some Christians believe that scary movies are the work of the devil or at the very least they open up the door to him. With this in mind, it’s understandable why, Ephesians 4:27,”And do not give the devil a foothold,” is one of a number of verses that anti-horror watching Christians use to support their belief that Christians should refrain from watching this kind of content. If these frightful films are satanic, then watching them can be seen as essentially extending an invitation to the devil. But are horror movies really all bad? Religion / What Does The Bible Say About Homosexuality? Is Homosexuality A Sin? by turboG: 4:57am On Mar 13, 2016 |
What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Is homosexuality a sin? The Bible consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). Romans 1:26-27 teaches specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God. When people continue in sin and unbelief, God “gives them over” to even more wicked and depraved sin in order to show them the futility and hopelessness of life apart from God. 1 Corinthians 6:9 proclaims that homosexual “offenders” will not inherit the kingdom of God. Hello Guys, What did you think the Bible Verses below says about Sex before Marriage. 1 Corinthians 7:36-38 King James Version (KJV) 36 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry. 37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well. 38 So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better. |
