Yes ooo.. I'll be 5 months post AOR this Thursday. Do you know your visa office? Any CSE &/or ghost update since you submitted? I just Pray it is not AVO, bcs AVO seems to be taking too long to process applications. EyesondPrize: Lolz...I will be 5 months Post-Aor next week. |

Amen to all the prayers. I appreciate your advice. Especially your candid number 3. I completed my PhD in 2018 (in Asia), and fortunately I have a number of publications in reputable ISI and Scopus journals with impact factor ranging from 3 up to 7. Thank you for taking your time to itemize your responses. Wishing you all the best with your dissertation. godG: Hi there. Congrats on turning in your application, may the outcome be as expected.
Just so you know, sir, I don’t have PhD — at least, not until I finish this dissertation. And my doctoral program is in the US. Nonetheless, as a PR who has colleagues in Canadian universities, I want to believe I can say one or two things about this.
These are the options I would explore if I were you:
1. Look for visiting scholar opportunities. These kinds of position will only pay you stipend. Even if you are able to convince any school that you are willing to be a visiting scholar for free, go for it. The good thing about this option is that you will have opportunities to put your best foot forward and build relationships that could help in job search. For your job search, if it hasn’t been that long since you received your PhD (was it before your started working or after?), consider applying for postdocs.
2. Enroll in a new PhD program. I don’t like this option because PhD, as you know, is no child’s play. If this is the option you like, while you are on the program try to have one or two publications and build solid relationships with your advisors. Once these two are taken care off, and you are done with coursework, before qualifying exams, with your Nigerian PhD, have a go at the job market. This will take between 1 - 2 years. If your PhD isn’t old, try postdocs or research associate positions. If you are lucky to find a position, you don’t have to finish the PhD. But if you don’t mind the time investment, being on the job market as a Canadian ABD (after qualifying exams) will make job search easier.
3. Consider alt-ac positions. You can always go back to academia after some years in the private sector. This route might require some short courses, though. I’m sure you know what sells in your field.
Personally, considering that you have a family you have to feed, I prefer the 3rd option. Money is important, you don’t want to live on stipends for long.
I’m sure the sages here will also have one or two things to add.
May God give you wisdom to make the right choice.
Best. |

Hello Everyone,
I submitted my PR application on 8th Dec 2019 (AOR). I have 8 years experience in University teaching and research. I also hold a PhD in Medical Sciences. I will like to know what are my career prospects, pathways and options if I migrate to Canada.
How possible is it to secure university job in the same field as I currently am?
I also learnt that I may need to start all over (I feel am ready to if I have to), does that mean I need to change my current career completely?
Will you advise enrolling in courses/programs to build a career in health sciences (e.g. Physiotherapy or nursing)?
If you were in my shoes and with your current understanding of Canadian system which path will you take?
(I'm 33, married with 3 kids)
I really need your help and advice. Help curtail my recently rekindled sleepless nights. Help a brother please.
Thanks in advance. |

Hi bezimo, can you kindly elaborate. Are you saying one (an MBBS holder) must enrol in their MD program? If yes, can you share your experience or that of a Dr you know. Thanks bezimo: This is a false info..if you come into Canada from 9ja or any african country as a medical doctor you have to start again.. |

Thank You Spicyme: I'll advise you do it in kano. I did mine in kd, 15k each. Before doing it, I called inspector moshood in Lagos but he said he wasn't going to tell me the price until I send the datapage of my passport to him. Also, he was expected to courier the documents to me. Assuming he charged 8k each and paid 7k for DHL that would have amounted to 23k without miscellaneous. So we decided to do it in kd.
You can bargain with them. |

canadaman18: You need to see the kinda assumptions people were making on canada visa threads before the draw was held :
- IRCC is freezing Express Entry - IRCC deliberately wants scores to go up - IRCC is switching to monthly draws. - IRCC is going to exclude some countries
These statements are nothing more than fake news but the way they say it ,you'd really think their father is Ahmed Hussein and he personally told them. . See assumptions |

I am a silent follower of this thread.
I got to know about EE in August,2019.
After being introduced to EE, I was given an agent's contact who requested that I pay 280K for WES evaluation (for my wife and I), 900K as his service charge and another exorbitant fee (can't remember how much) for IELTS.
Thank God am not new to WES and IELTS, I did the duo in 2013 while applying for admission abroad. So I decided to surf the internet for information. I came across a YouTube channel (Canadainfohub) owned by Mrs Wolo. I later came across this thread. Both have been very helpful.
That was how I started my journey.
We both applied for ECA on 08/08/2019, Got my ECA report on 14/10/2019, Got my spouse's ECA report on 6/11/2019, My IELTS: 8.5,8,7,7 (LSRW) (28 Sept 2019) Spouse's IELTS: 8.5,7.5,7,7.5 (07 Sept 2019)
Entered EE pool yesterday 7/11/2019 (after receiving wife's ECA)
CRS score 477.
Keep up the good work of educating one another. It's a privilege to be here. Hopefully I will share ppr on this platform. |
