I guess you did not read the part I said you should refer to the police act 2020! I am fully aware of what was said in the Video by the FPRO and I am clearly telling you what the law stipulates. It is clearly stated that the uniform and rank of the Supernumeary police are the same. Go and read it and come back with your argument.

But incase it is too much for you to Navigate go to section V pages 21 to 24 where it deals with the appointment of Supernumerary police officers

Now number 3 under section V of the act states that
3) Every Supernumerary
Officer appointed under this section and section 22 and section 23
d)
i) SHALL BE A MEMBER OF THE POLICE for all purposes
ii) Subject to the provisions of act particular the provisions relating to discipline

4) Where any Supernumerary police officer is appointed the private or government availing its services of the officer shall pay
a) All entitlements including salary and allowances to the officer monthly
b) On the enlisting of the officer, the full cost of the officers uniform and accoutrements including the ceremonial dress which is
i) THE SAME AS THE POLICE GENERAL DUTY
ii) Shall be paid to the police is a designated account approved by the inspector general of Police


I dont want to join issues with the FPRO but he mentioned in the briefing that they are not members of the police that the are SPY officers.
That language is unknown to the Police act.

Secondly on the issue of uniform putting on black over black is not an offense of impersonation as the badges worn by the ladies clearly indicated which unit they belong to in the police.

So what are they? Are they not Special Constabulary of the Nigerian Police force? Are they special Constabulary of the Nigerian Navy or airforce?

Why is the NPF always quick to make a distinction between them (Supernumerary and special Constabulary) and the regular personnel when genuine issues arise?

When the special constables protested they were quick to come out to make a statement that those are not real NPF personnel. The same thing with this viral videos. Oh they are Spy officers and different from the regular personnel.

The question is who trains these officers? Who is responsible for their professional conduct and issues of discipline? Is it the Road safety or LASTMA?

Why cant the Police leadership take responsibility for their failures and address the main issue instead of conveniently pointing fingers and playing the blame game?

The hard truth is that the image of the Police is being battered on a daily basis by men and officers of the NPF with their unprofessional conduct and the public is not stupid. They are the ones who encounter them and bear the brunt.

They were not impersonating! They are officers of the Nigerian police force but under the Supernumerary police unit. The Police act 2020 is very clear on this. It covers issues relating to appointment, ranks, discipline and uniforms as relating to Supernumerary police officers. Please read it, and educate yourself before you rush to pass judgement and labelling them as "only spy police".

For those wondering, "Spy" is short for Supernumerary Police Officer.

They are like police but for private businesses, organizations, or state or local governments.

So a company, state, or local government can hire people and then pass them over to the Nigerian police to train as Spy Police officers. (I think some can train themselves too and look for companies to employ them.)

After the training, they return to their employer where they perform police duties on their properties/territory and so on. They can arrest people -- but only on the property of their employer. Outside that property, they are just another civilian.

Spy officers wear black on black like regular police, but their uniform looks dark-grey or shiny-black instead of regular black.

They don't carry guns, wear ranks, or wear police camouflage or blue uniforms.

You are right on some the points you mentioned but permit me to add a few things

Supernumerary police unit is a unit in the Police force just like you have SPU, FCID, IRT, Anti Cult, STS, CTU EOD etc.
They are Police officers by virtue of Section 18-22 of the Nigerian police act and enjoy the rights and privileges of Police officers. They are also covered by immunity as Police officers and are sanctioned and disciplined as the same.
They are Police for Non Police establishment like Oil Coys Banks etc but can be called upon to do regular police work just like the Genetal duty at any point in time by the Commisioner of Police and posted to any Poilce division.
For instance many Supernumerary police officers are attached to the RRS, Taskforce and various Divisonal Traffic sections under Lagos state command.
The wear the same Uniforms and the Ranks as the General duty, from Police constable to Commisioner of Police with the Highest rank attainable by Supernumerary Police officer being commisioner of Police.
Supernumerary Police officers performing duties as Orderlies for high ranking Government officials and
High networth individuals will have to undergo special training before they can bear arms to protect their principals.

Yea I know a thing or two about guns. I'm also a contributor on an international blog on the seizures of craft production weapons. I'm a collector and a firearms enthusiast.
The semi auto pistols that have being turning up have been quite impressive and the skills to manufacture them likely brought in by guys who learnt the art abroad. At least one gunsmith that was arrested claimed to have learned the art in Mauritania while another set were from Benue state. The info regarding production of this self loading pistols is still a bit sketchy but time will certainly reveal a lot more.

Yep. This is a full auto submachine gun locally made to use standard AK mags. I've seen a lot of semiautomatic pistols locally made as well. The downside to these locally made guns is the barrel being smooth bore so there is Zero accuracy and range on this things. I guess it's a matter of time before they get to figure that out and fix it.

This is neither an SKS or S12K. It's a locally produced SMG that uses standard AK mags chambered in 7.62 × 39. They have been turing up a lot lately around that Kaduna - Jos axis where the local gunsmiths have upped their game to meet local demands for more durable weapons.

"Locally made Baretta Pistol" has become a generic name for any handgun made in Nigeria by blacksmiths, but truth be told, the complexity and precision manufacturing processes required to produce a functional semi-automatic handgun are all FAR above the level of sophistication to be found in a Nigerian blacksmith's workshop. Locally made revolvers do exist, but even they are more likely to back-fire and kill or injure the shooter, than the intended target.

In short, any pistol made by blacksmiths can NEVER compare with the firepower of a REAL Barretta semi-automatic pistol, so perhaps Nigerian journalists should consider choosing an alternative name to describe those crude, hand-made contraptions of the sort shown in the above photograph.
