ycat:You're right but the news was targeted towards African audience/readers from the media (Punch). |
Take a look at this: I have read the views of some of my colleagues that the NBA should return the sum of N300 million donated to it by the legitimate Rivers State Governor for the 2025 Annual General Conference of the Bar, which was initially scheduled to hold in Rivers State in August this year. Some of my colleagues went further to argue that the NBA should not collect money from the government and that the NBA must be self-funding. Okutepa just shot himself in the leg with the above bolded statement. He said the money was donated by the governor, SIM. If he's smart enough, he should have said the money was donated by the Rivers State government. Authority is vested in the person(SIM) and power is vested in the Office (Governor). How much does SIM earn as salary if he's donating as an individual? A former accountant general of the state. There should be a clear line between donation as an individual or on behalf of the state. In another related development, read the bolded statement below by Okutepa. But before returning to this, let me repeat what I said earlier on this N300 million. I have expressed the view that—even if the N300 million given to the NBA by Governor Sim Fubara was for hosting rights, as claimed by the illegal and unconstitutional Sole Administrator of Rivers State—it would be unconstitutional and unlawful for the NBA to return the money to the Sole Administrator. Opportunity makes a thief, a thief without opportunity considers himself honest. The money might be meant for hosting right and as a professional why not return the money to the CBN as one of his colleagues suggested a few days ago instead of politising the fund thus making it look like they're on SIM's side. It's not professional. |
idahme:Gift is refundable if it's proven by investigation or forensics that the money is a proceed of "constructive possession" or "criminal conversion". I've recovered money that were termed as gift, entertainment or gesture. Quote me. |
The Donald Trump administration may shut down nearly 30 United States embassies and consulates around the world, including several in Africa, as part of a sweeping plan to reduce the country’s diplomatic presence abroad. A CNN report on Wednesday, citing an internal US State Department document, states that the embassies in the Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Lesotho, and South Sudan are among those proposed for closure. A US consulate in South Africa may also be shut down. “The document recommends closing 10 embassies and 17 consulates. Many of the posts are in Europe and Africa, though they also include locations in Asia and the Caribbean. These include embassies in Malta, Luxembourg, Lesotho, the Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan. “The list also includes five consulates in France, two in Germany, two in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one in the United Kingdom, one in South Africa, and one in South Korea,” the report stated. The proposal is part of a broader effort by the Trump-led government—reportedly influenced by the Elon Musk-backed Department of Government Efficiency—to drastically reduce the size and spending of federal agencies, including the State Department. The internal document also suggests reducing the US presence in countries such as Somalia and Iraq, which have been central to America’s counterterrorism efforts. There has been no official confirmation that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has approved the proposal, and a spokesperson for the department declined to comment on the leaked document. https://punchng.com/trump-may-shut-down-us-embassies-in-africa-report/ |

I admire your drive and entrepreneurial spirit—it’s clear you’re working hard to achieve your relocation goals. That said, I’d like to offer a bit of advice that might help you build a more sustainable path forward. If you haven't yet pursued formal education up to postgraduate, this might be a good time to consider it. Education equips you with knowledge, skills, and opportunities that can help you go further, whether locally or abroad. It can also give you an edge in business and in navigating the challenges that come with relocation. Alternatively, since you're already running a business, instead of focusing solely on relocation, consider expanding and strengthening your business first. A well-established business could eventually fund your relocation comfortably and even provide you with a more stable life when you get there. Travelling or relocating without a solid plan or foundation can be risky. So, think long-term and focus on building yourself up through education or business growth. Either path will serve you well in the future. Wishing you success in your hustle! Joamoyo: |
tonesky:AA calling out BAT...Pot calling kettle black. Is he a saint? Opportunity makes a thief, a thief without opportunity considers himself honest. |
Malroux:It's not Tinubu. It's the justice system that has been suffering decay since independence. Miscarriage of justice. Think outside the box. Have you ever wondered why you buy electric poles and cables then repair transformers for DISCOs when it's the responsibilities of the DISCOs? They've been giving you estimated billing and banks have been deducting your money illegally before Tinubu. That's to tell you the extent of decay in Nigeria system. I understand the country is bad but stop the labelling theory. |
ibabz:How market? |
The reaction from Sterling Bank on the video is funny. |
lexy2014:I'm my experience in the field of "Criminalistics", donation of such amount before such an event will be beneficial to the governor whether in material terms, association wise or career path. The donation is not coming on the day or at the venue of the event. The money you claimed Wike donated was for market reconstruction like you said. Have you ever thought about the link between NBA and SIM? Let me ask you, was the money meant to build a hall for the event? Or for food for the event? Ibas may have a paper work on the money trail and the narration on it may not even carry "donation". Maybe that was why Ibas said he'll use legal means to retrieve the money. To make things worst, SIM is not saying anything about it maybe because the matter may result in further digging into past transactions. Note: There's a difference between "Philanthropy" and "Charity". One is short term relief and the other is more long-term and strategic. Maybe he wants to be in the good book of NBA... |
Mrfeel:I'm not talking about the source of funds. Leave the money trail for forensics... I've seen governors donating to other states and political associates but NBA is totally different, unless NBA president is a PDP big wig or the donation will be beneficial to SIM. Initially, I believed the money was for Hosting rights. SIM is not a lawyer, not a patron of the association. The event leading to the donation wasn't a fundraising event but abstractly gifted the money before the event took place. I'm looking at intent here. |
lexy2014:You just mentioned a project that the money was meant for... Kingpele:Your constitution is faulty. There's no constitution in Nigeria unless reviewed. Everything is wrong with the country from foundation. For instance, local government autonomy implementation frustrated by some governors after Supreme Court Judgement. Another is, you buy electric poles and buy/repair power transformers for Discos which is actually Disco's responsibilities and you don't maintain facilities for telecos. Have you ever questioned this? Again, one judgment and two victories. Courts giving contradictory judgements leading to different interpretation. Even the laws are sometimes interpreted to suit the purpose. |
Antoeni:Most of us here do not understand what's going on between the two and in the triangle with the president. We only come here to comment without deep thinking. You and i were not there when agreements were made on some issues with just them in the room. You only read what they want you to read in the news. You can't analyse what you don't understand. It's the truth. You would never understand...Someone was desperate for power and the other was desperate for control and they reached mutual agreements which you and I do not know the terms. For instance, maybe I gave you a vehicle on hire purchase to be remitting X amount periodically with a mutual agreement, but you defaulted serially, and I have to find a means to retrieve my vehicle from you... This is just an example of agreement. The key takeaway here is that, politicians politicise favours or gifts to their associates at the detriment of the citizens and this is what we're experiencing in that state at the moment. |
hotboz:I disagree with this part below and you can't compare Abuja Airport with Ekiti Cargo Airport. For those who are saying nothing is in Ekiti, ask the people of Ondo State; most of the passengers using their airport are from Ekiti State. |
Mrfeel:Who knows if this was one of the reasons Ibas summoned SIM and his suspended deputy to come and clarify some decisions made while SIM was in office. 300M is too much for such a gift if it won't be beneficial to the state. This is not a fundraising event. Government funds and not personal funds...My opinion. |
"Look at Ali Ndume; he tells you the president is nepotistic. Is there any greater nepotism than one man from a senatorial district saying he will stay as a senator forever? “Are there no others? He gets jobs for his children and very close people at the CBN, NNPC, and juicy places, but for the children of the poor, he sends them into the army.” The statements above are deep! |
MIKOLOWISKA:There are so many staff members working in the government house plus there are a lot of visitors waiting to meet the governor that will be there for days... So many people to be entertained. It's the tradition in the government house to cook varieties of food in excess. I've seen that multiple times. They waste food a lot. Imagine cooking two to three soups and in the end, your boss feels like taking just tea for breakfast. |

Firstson33:You mean "guilty by association". |
4m cannot run government house for a day. From diesel, food alone with multiple cows and goats killed everyday and other things. Maybe he meant 4bn which is still not possible. fuckJones: |
SalamRushdie:My uncle who is a serving senator is currently facing the same challenge in his home state. |
So, stealing 85 Billion Naira from Ports Authority makes you an excellent student of history? Opportunity makes a thief, a thief without opportunity considers himself honest. Be thankful to OBJ. |
Jokky001:Hunters of men. |
Goodadvice01:There's no consequence to that... Only that rumour and gossip mills will feast on that just like they did to Trump before coming to power. The release of such records will aid other internal investigation which is a normal thing. This may help them in money trail by other agencies apart from FBI or DEA. |
Morbeta11:The beginning of the apocalypse As a criminologist, this policy of mass release and reintegration of thousands of Boko Haram ex-combatants without judicial accountability is not only deeply troubling but a gross miscarriage of justice. These are individuals implicated in heinous acts of terrorism, mass killings, abductions, and the destruction of entire communities—yet they are allowed to walk free under the vague guise of "repentance" after a mere six-month program. This not only undermines the suffering of victims and survivors but sends a dangerous message that violent extremism carries no real consequences. Such an approach weakens the criminal justice system, erodes public trust in governance, and potentially endangers communities forced to accept former perpetrators into their midst without any assurance of justice or true rehabilitation. This is not reconciliation; it is institutionalized impunity. |
bigwig10:It's in Nigeria you'll see, One court judgement and two victories. You'll buy electric poles and cables for Power Distribution Companies, even transformers too. Everything is illegal in Nigeria. |
xpressionx:That's the point... Yea. He wants that so bad. |
sarrki:The logo signifes INFINITY... |
Ivens:My thoughts too. |
