Interview transcript alert :
Left my home as early as 5:30am arrived at the embassy around 6:20am. Met our popular star Mr Paulinus at the gate.
Me: (In a humble voice) Good morning sir, please I am here for my student visa interview scheduled for 7:00am.
Mr Paulinus : Good morning, ok please go and come back around 6:30am.
Me: Ok, thank you sir.

I took a walk forward and waited somewhere till 6:30am.
I walked back and did the needful with the security men and they checked me in. Met few persons before me.
Paulinus comes out and starts the real business of the day with us. He called out each documents as it should be arranged for us.
N:B -Please note that Paulinus is not that bad as hyped here. The code is for you to listen attentively as he calls out each documents no slacking. Do not interrupt him with " Please sir what did you call previously etc" else he will replace you immediately with another from the queue.

I finally got through with Paulinus and got in. Sat down peacefully while waiting for the next available cubicle
number to come on.
Number 1 finally came up on the cubicle indicator .I cheered up and walked forward as directed by the security guard.

Beautiful transcript. Just want to add for the sake of those who'd be preparing with this transcript that Germany boarders Switzerland on the South and not the East. On the East we have Poland and the Czech republic.
Good luck, bro.

Interview transcript:

I had my interview, today.

I arrived late at the consulate(quite regrettable).
Was queried by Mr. Paulinus but then, he got kind with me and directed me on how to arrange my documents.
N/B: I don't think Mr. Paulinus is a savage. I feel he's doing his job the way he knows how best to.
Finally, I got checked it and sat waiting for my turn.

The light beeped and I was directed to counter one.
I exchanged pleasantries with the visa officer. She is a woman with a beautiful British accent.
Handed her my documents and we began.

Biometrics were done.

Gave me some paperworks to sign.

Visa Officer: What course are you going for?
Me: Global Communication: Politics and Society.

V.O: Master's?
Me: Yes, ma.

V.O: School?
Me: University of Erfurt.

V.O: What's your first degree?
Me: Mass Communication.

V.O: How did you come across this course and the school?
Me: I stumbled upon it on the DAAD website.

V.O: Oh DAAD.
Me: Yes, ma.

V.O: What's your motivation for going for this course?
Me: I got interested in the interplay between the Mass Media and society sometime in my undergraduate days, after I got through with the course, Media and Society.

Media and Society then was about media and communication culture, the role of the media in contemporary democracies and political system, the media systems operating in societies and how they are influenced by the society.
Global Communication is an expansion of that course.
It takes the interplay between the media, politics and the society to a higher degree and considers it through international comparison.

V.O: Alright.
Why did you decide to go for this Course in Germany and not Nigeria? How about the U.S?
Me: The course combination at this level isn't found in Nigeria. I also looked through schools in the U.S and Canada and found no media and communication program with this kind of combination.

V.O: Would you have gone to the U.S if you had found this course in their Universities?
Me: No. Not at this point. While the U.S and Germany can boast of World Class Educational System, I feel the U.S is quite expensive.
Education in Germany is very affordable.
The Deutsch is also a plus. The United States has no second official language besides English. So, for a young Journalist like me, adding the popular and prestigious Deutsch to my English is a huge plus and makes German the destination for me.

V.O: *nods her head*- So, affordable education and language attraction are the reasons?
Me: Oh yes.

V.O: What was your first degree thesis?
Me: The effects of world information flow imbalance on third world culture.

V.O: Ok.
Tell me what you know about Germany- economy, geography, politics, etc.

V.O: Give your answer in five sentences.
Me: Germany is a country in Central and Western Europe(wanted to say, it occupies the Baltic and the North seas on the North and the Alps, Lake Constance and the High Rhine on the South but skipped it. I blanked off momentarily. I continued, however).
Germany boarders Denmark to the North, Poland and the Czech republic to the East, Switzerland and Austria to the South, France to the South West and Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands to the West.
Germany occupies a landmass of about 357,386 square kilometers.
It is the second largest country in Europe after Russia with a population of about 83million people.

It is the fourth largest economy in the world and operates a parliamentary system with the Chancellor as the head.
The current Chancellor is Angela Merkel and the president is Frank Walter Steinmeieir.
(I completely forgot about the Bundesrat and the Bundestag)

At this point, the V.O cut in.

V.O:When did the president and Chancellor assume office and what are their political parties?

Here, my memory failed me. I thought and thought but it never came. I looked at the V.O and said in a regrettable tone;
Me: I don't know.

V.O: What is the longest River in Germany.
Me: The Rhine.
(she begin laugh. Maybe my pronunciation tickled her. After I left her, however, I started to wonder if the longest River was the Rhine or the Danube river)

V.O: The colour of the German flag?
Me: black, yellow and Red.

V.O: Ok. That will be all. We will process your data. But please, try and find your account.
Your school resumes next month.
Get an extension from them and send it to the embassy through the email I gave you.

V.O: Bear with me, please. I'm not feeling fine and the computer has been slow, this morning.

Me: That's Ok. Get well soon.

V.O: Thanks.

(This is the much I can remember. I wish everyone success even as I pray that lines fall for me in pleasant places.)

Did you have skype interview for TU Ilmenau Media and Communication Science. Please how did it go cos they sent me a message for skype interview. What's the questions like i need your assistance pleaseeeeeeee.
I had a Skype interview, not with TU Ilmenau but with University of Erfurt- Global Communication.

The interview question was 85 percent about what I put down in my letter of motivation.
The rest were generated from the answers that I provided. And it is about the same thing with T.U Ilmenau.

So, go back and read through your letter of motivation. Try to figure out the likely questions that will come from there. Think of answers that you might give and what questions they might generate from your answers.
In a nutshell, just get acquainted with your motivation letter.

The online interview doesn't last long. Mine lasted for about 15-20 minutes.

Again, make sure your network is stable. Skype sabi mess up.
I wish you goodluck.

Petrus Nwannem, there are things we don't talk about online. At the right time, I will call all of them out. I have a lot to present to God and the right authority at the right time. Look through posts and see people authenticating my claims. Even you attested here that you paid 20k! For what exactly? You see wickedness of man to man?

And some hopeless Nigerians are expecting me to keep mute because some Barbaric South Africans are reading. You see why we are where we are?

People rather than speak out against societal ills, prefer to keep mute, run away and then start intimidating others with ill gotten wealth most times.

Most people going to Europe don't really have set skills to survive. They are just going there to give off the impression that they have arrived in life or appear to have made it in the eyes of people. But its all castles built in the air.

If our nation is not hopeless, what would make our youths willing to deposit billions of Euros into a European bank just to be allowed access into there country? Are German youths made to pay same when coming to Nigeria? NEVER! You know why? They have a country filled with human beings and very sane people with working systems. They have a disciplined lifestyle.

My friend in Germany wa telling me how Germans do real work. He said that if you work in Germany, your body will tell you. Because you did real work and you will see good pay.

But in a jungle like Nigeria, you enter an office and see people during work hours eating ground nuts from 8 to 5. Before they can do the work they are actually payed to do, they will expect tips from you. Otherwise, no attention will be given to you.

Lets keep in running! My eyes have seen my ears in this country.
I feel your pain, my brother. I can relate.

I just paid 48k to collect my original certificates from my hopeless Imo state university. My other university in Ghana gave it free. But I was charged in a place am meant to call Fatherland. 22k to official school account and 23k in cash to an individual. It was quite painful.
I graduated from Imo State University too and I have my original certificate. Didn't pay 1kobo except the 20k I paid into the School's account for convocation/certificate(even though I don't understand why we were asked to pay).
Who was this individual you enriched with some extra cash?

My dear wonderful family, my package finally arrived yesterday evening via DHL.

My special thanks goes to God Almighty for his unending love and faithfulness.

My testimony will not be complete if I don't mention all those who walked with me on this journey. Heybaby my sister from another mother, Fabcol who was always willing to help and advice me. Ahmed who funded my block account and restored my trust in humanity/ Nigerians. Stateboy8080 who was ever willing to render a helping hand plus all the numerous Nairalanders who shared in my joy, pain and confusion. Your collective selflessness has made this group the envy of all.

For everyone waiting for AD, AM and Visum at this point, I pray that God Almighty will perfect everything that concerns each and everyone of you in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

Special greetings to everyone who sacrifices time to respond to queries endlessly. May God bless you all.

Yes this woman may be stricter than other VOs but I really don't think it's really about her. If you read through the several interview transcripts on this thread you'll know that YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO CONVINCE YOUR VO WHY YOU WANT TO STUDY IN GERMANY. Which means you need to take into account:
- your course of study and why you chose that course.
- your future plans and how your study course plays a role in it.
Yes, most Nigerians simply want to escape from Nigeria using the study route but YOU CANNOT GO AND TELL THE VO THAT. And from the way and manner you present yourself, I'm sure they can easily detect that.
Here's some lil advice for those yet to do interview
- You see that checklist on the embassy's website, IT IS A CHECKLIST OOO, DON'T JUST DOWNLOAD IT, PRINT IT OUT AND USE IT TO CHECK, DOUBLE CHECK AND TRIPLE CHECK YOUR DOCUMENTS. Make sure you go with all you need + photocopies else those hustlers at the embassy will use you to shine.
- Please prepare for your interview, as in be serious. Don't go to the embassy and start arranging docs there or writing motivational letter there. DO ALL THESE FROM YOUR HOUSE. Check the previous transcripts and see the order of arrangements for documents so that you won't have issues with Paulinus.
- Your motivation letter is key. Please make sure that you write it well. Don't write it on foolscap sheet, use A4 paper for proper presentation.

Sorry if I sound aggressive but I think some people need to hear this.
Nice one. The checklist has been updated. Motivation letters must be typed now.
