dem_people:them people there is noting called hausa or fulani it is called hausa/fulani and very soon it would be kanuri/hausa/fulani middle belt would be fulani/yoruba/nupe/igala Hausa-Fulani is a term used to refer collectively to the Hausa and Fulani people. The two are grouped together because since the Fulani War their histories have been largely intertwined. For example, when the Fulani took over Hausa city-state of Kano during the Fulani War of 1804-1810, the new emirs ended up speaking the Hausa language instead of Fulfulde. |

why is it that we have kidnappers in my zone the SE |
Residents of Nsukka urban and communities in Igbo-eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, now live in fear as a result of an upsurge in kidnapping in the area. Already, the wife of Obi Mama, a prominent businessman, who was abducted a few days ago from her home at Iheaka in Igbo-eze South, is still being held captive as at press time. Security sources said that her captors are now demanding a huge sum of money from her relations as ransom for the release of the victim. A wealthy businessman and a schoolboy had earlier been kidnapped at the same Iheaka community, where kidnappers seem to have found a safe haven to operate. The schoolboy reportedly escaped from the kidnappers’ den, while the man whose names could not be ascertained, bought his freedom with an undisclosed sum of money. Boniface Odugu, a member of Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board and medical practitioner, was also kidnapped but he later regained his freedom after spending a week in his kidnappers’ den. Luck however ran out on three suspected kidnappers a fortnight ago, at Olido, Igbo-eze South, where they were caught when they tried to abduct the chairman of vigilante group in the area. At Nsukka urban, gallant students caught another kidnapper, who had gone to the Government Technical College (GTC) to collect a ransom brought by a relation of a victim of his gang. Addressing journalists at the weekend on the precarious security situation in the South-East zone, chairman of MAN in Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra states, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, blamed the wave of crime on refusal of government to support manufacturing sector. Obidigbo decried the insincerity of the governors of states in the zone in fighting unemployment through promotion of locally made goods and provision of incentives to local manufacturers. Noting that at the moment, manufacturing in Nigeria contributes as low as four per cent to the nation’s economic growth and 17 per cent in a country like Cote d’ Ivoire, the MAN chief lamented that the case of the South East has become most pathetic in view of the neglect of its huge potentials. Obidigbo said: “That is why crime rate is high here because the youths roam the streets in search of employment and the governments have not done much to help us promote indigenous manufacturing, which is ideally the pivot of any nation’s real economic growth.” He stated that “this scenario is replicated in the whole of the former Eastern Region of Nigeria, including the states of the South-South geopolitical zone.” http://www.independentngonline.com/DailyIndependent/Article.aspx?id=34323 |
ABUJA — THE North East caucus in the House of Representatives yesterday supported the zoning formula of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, provided the position of deputy speaker remained in the zone. This development has automatically thrown a spanner into Rep Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s aspirations to contest the speakership position in the seventh assembly, barely two weeks from now. In a statement by the zonal chairman of the caucus, Anthony Madwatte, and secretary, Adamu Gurai, the caucus stated that the North East in a meeting held in the National Assembly resolved as follows: “The caucus believes that since the zoning arrangement entails that the status quo be maintained that invariably means that the zone should be allowed to produce the next Deputy Speaker a position the zone currently occupies.” In the statement, it was also resolved that “the caucus supports the zoning arrangement of political offices at the national level which cedes the deputy speakership to the North East zone. The caucus is of the opinion that any other arrangement that sought to re-zone the office of the deputy speaker to another zone other than North East would amount to total disregard for the entire North East and its contributions to the Nigerian project. Tambuwal, a top ranking member of the sixth Assembly launched his campaign for the coveted position as the retreat for the newly elected members started early this month and left nobody in doubt that he could sway members to his side. The South East had equally shown unprecedented interest in the speakership but got its position weakened because it started canvassing for the position a little bit too late. The North West too had signaled interest in the race but its chances became weakened due to the fact that the post of the VP was already zoned to the region. The South West PDP had officially zoned the speakership to the South West where Muraina Ajibola and Mulikat Adeola are front runners for the position. With this new development the Ajibola camp may just start rejoicing as the North East that would have posed a threat to his aspirations has been technically thrown aside for an easy sail for him. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/05/n-east-rules-self-out-of-house-speaker/ |
