NYSC / Why Going Back To Your Parents Home After POP Is A Disastrous Idea by ugofwesh: 10:32pm On Jul 02, 2018
Going back Home After Passing Out Parade?
It’s not really a bad idea going back to your parents House after POP. What is wrong is remaining there or planning to stay there for a relatively long period of time.
David Oyedepo once said life is in stages and men are in sizes. Life during Nysc is a stage of life whereas life after Nysc is a stage in life that requires acceptance of Full responsibility. Thus the need to become self reliant self-dependent cannot be overemphasized.
I strongly believe that every man (irrespective of gender) must take an active step in shaping their lives.

Here are some candid advise/tips to you:
1. First of all discover your self and set tangible goals. – what will you be doing while at home? What do you really want for yourself? What direction do you want to steer your life? When do you plan to leave your parents house? You don’t need money to answer all these questions I guess.
Everything might not go according to plan, but the most important thing is to have a plan. Having a plan sets the compass for what you really want to do and how to go about it. A plan drives you and gives you purpose, something to really clinge on to after Nysc.

2. Move close to opportunities: If your parents aren’t living in a place that gives you an advantage to opportunities by proximity, then the earlier you migrate the better for you. Look for relatives who you can visit and spend some time with in cities and towns across the nation. You never know where something good will come out from. At a point staying in the house with your parents for too long will make them not to value you anymore. This then brings insults and increased pressure on you getting a good job as soon as possible. This could be one of the most scary phase of a graduate who is yet to get balanced especially immediately after Nysc.

3. Learn or improve on a skill: If you have some skills at the moment, take some time to improve and perfect them over the next few months. If you haven’t developed any, now is the best time to begin. Never say Never. Look for an entrepreneurship skill like tailoring, soap making etc and learn as soon as possible. The rate of Unemployment in the country isn’t far-fetched, thus it is pertinent to learn a skill to enable create revenue for yourself as this will help you pass time in order to remove your mind from so many unnecessary pressures that might change your mood.
The bottom line is… have something you are good at. That will be the basis on which most people would likely relate with you. You must not be a liability under any circumstance.
Your skills might be what will open the ultimate door for you. You never can tell.

4. Network: Yes, network! Meet new people at every slight opportunity you have. In church, fairs, trainings, general and business conferences and development meetings, interactive forums and what have you.
My brother will humorously say go out and meet new people. Life before and during Nysc was just watching movies, gist with friends and lazing around without any serious thing doing. However, this is life after Nysc and must be taken seriously in order to survive in this harsh Nigerian climate.
Now, your attendance is not as important as how you introduce yourself. When you meet people, introduce yourself by your skills, and what you can do and not as a graduate seeking employment. People will naturally avoid you if the feel you will become one added liability to them, but tend to draw close if the find the relationship to be mutually beneficial.

5. Maintain a positive attitude: It doesn’t matter if you get a job or something Doing next week or next month. It is very important to be positive, stay hopeful, wear a smile (always) and try to be happy.
Infact, your positive attitude would open any door for you even before your credentials or certificates would. Keep on being positive because this period is the most challenging period of the life of any Nigerian youth, the more reason to stay mentally focused. NYSC / Bayelsa Corper Gang Raped By 15 Member Armed Robbery Gang by ugofwesh: 11:17am On Jun 18, 2018
A female Bayelsa corper doing her one-year mandatory National youth service in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State is currently in a critical condition after she was allegedly assaulted and raped by a 15-man gang of robbers who invaded the ‘Corpers Lodge’ at Yenizue Gene, a suburb of Yenagoa, about 3a.m. yesterday June 17th.
New Telegraph reports that the armed robbers overpowered the neighbourhood vigilantes who are usually armed with only sticks and machetes. The robbers reportedly went to the NYSC Corpers Lodge where they forcibly took away a female corps member. According to a resident of the community, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the Bayelsa corper was repeatedly raped by the hoodlums who took her in turns.
The residents of the community went to rescue her after the robbers had finished assulting her. They took her to the hospital where doctors are working to stabilize the bayelsa corper.

Local sources said though the police were alerted, there was little they could do because the area had been thrown into darkness by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC). A vigilante, who gave his name simply as Tonye, said the security men were afraid of running into an ambush.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Asinim Butswat, said the command is yet to receive any information about the incident..

NYSC / The Boulevard Of A Fresh Bayelsa Corper by ugofwesh: 10:11pm On Jun 10, 2018
I decided to share my NYSC story since that is the only segment I can contribute to. .
So here goes my story, NYSC started in May 2015, I got posted to Bayelsa state to obey the clarion call. Everyone around me hailed my posting; according to them, I got posted to an oil state as such I had high expectations of the state. I wish the oil hailing lived up to expectation though.
Anyways, I made the journey to Bayelsa state on the day camp opened and was welcomed with heavy downpour. I got to the camp ground (Kolokuma Opokuma in Kaiama local government area) and started registration immediately, I got my mattress and bedspace but that was as far as I could go that night as it was late already.
Settling down to camp activities was not so easy because life in camp was quite difficult from our normal. The rigorous task of having to wake as early as 3am in other to meet up with the 5am devotion, (I had to wake up earlier because my hostel block was a newly renovated classroom as such we were given mobile bathroom and toilet to make use of:2 bathroom and toilet for 6 rooms so you can imagine the rush plus its level of “cleanliness”) parade, march past, 10mins breakfast time and more parade……. Oh God!!! At a point, I started to count down to 21 days and it seemed like it calwalked its way.
The only time I looked forward to in camp was the lecture period because it was an opportunity for me to sleep like never before.
Fellow Bayelsa corp members can attest to the fact that Kaiama camp was not really a conducive environment during rainy season as the area is waterlogged but then I had to readjust to my new environment and the new life I had to live for 21 days.
The first week saw me struggling through camp activity but I bounced back better from the second week and I made friends from my platoon and roommates. At a point, I looked forward to morning devotion and parade. My platoon: platoon 5 was more of comedy show because we had some funny characters that made us laugh so hard during parade with their “matching ”skills. Though I did not partake in some camp activities because I did not have the strength and was not ready to add an extra load to the one I had already so it was basically from my room to parade ground, mammy market, kitchen and back to my room. NACC activities suffered because it was a Sunday only affair for me.
Fast forward to the close of camp, we got our various posting letters and sincerely it was not funny.
water so the hustle for land posting was REAL. Oh well, I received my letter and saw that I was posted overseas in Southern Ijaw local government area and immediately my riverbanks started flowing. I cried that I was posted to serve “in the ABROAD”. Who cries about not wanting to go “ABROAD”?
I did --
My life travelling on speedboat for one year flashed before me and I could not imagine it all. If only I got proper orientation about how to change posting immediately, I wouldn’t have let the proprietor of the school I got posted to accept me on camp. I wonder, why can't we just have normal vc's that are willing to invest in great ideas/startups not great actors

Nigerian Investors are only interested in making money and not the business

NYSC / The Boulevard Of An Ajebo Akwa Ibom Corper by ugofwesh: 7:28pm On Jun 03, 2018
Here goes my Service year Boulevard…

I lived a really protected life while growing up, my folks were really strict and being the good girl and only girl child that I was, I followed all their instructions to the later even while in the university. in fact back in University, I would get surprise visits from My Mum her excuse was that she was in the area and so decided to check on me. So for my NYSC I wanted to work my posting somewhere as far away from home as possible. I’m from the middle belt and the farthest away I’ve been from home is Abuja and that’s because I was shipped off to a strict and very religious all girls boarding school.

When my Dad asked me were I wanted to serve I said Akwa Ibom, before then I wanted to serve in Lagos but I met some guy who told me that Akwa Ibom state was the best place to serve. He made it seem like serving in AKS was the best thing ever.

I was sold, I started to google NYSC in Akwa Ibom state, NYSC experience in Akwa Ibom, Nairaland became my best friend. And all I got were positive reviews and it’s always been a romantic fantasy of mine to marry someone from the south.I love the south, they are not as conservative as those of us from the North, they love to explore from sexuality to rich cultures, cuisines, you name it!

Back to my NYSC gist. When I told my Dad about serving in AKS he was having none of that, the way my melodramatic Mum(I love you Mummy) was shouting not Akwa Ibom! Anything but Akwa Ibom! you would think I told them I was going to North Korea or the Bermuda triangle. I stood my ground and they had to give in. Lest I forget I served in 2014, Batch C to be precise.

My Mum took me from our State to Enugu and dropped me off at AKTC park, she didn’t leave until the vehicle started moving, she was so worked up ehn! she will ask me C….. hope you carried your anointing oil, hope you carried your mosquito net, everybody in the bus noticed us and they were like Madam e don do, no be small pikin she be…lol Because of this I made friends with everybody in the bus, even the bus driver. The Journey to AKS was so not boring, because everybody wanted to tell me something good about Akwa Ibom. I was told that Ikot Ekpene, Uyo and Eket were the most urban places and that I should pray I get posted to these places.

When I got down at Itam park I got numbers from many people in the bus telling me to call them when I leave camp so that I wont get stranded, those people gave me a good first impression of the state.

Akwa Ibom is really very beautiful, Uyo especially, lovely weather too except when it starts raining for a week non stop and you have to wear rubber shoes and a shower cap..lol but it is really beautiful. Getting to the camp in Nsit Atai was another drama on its own but I got there in one piece my parents almost killed my battery with their incessant calls.

Let me not bore you with camp registration details, very boring and stressing something the only thing interesting about that long queue was watching the IJGB people and their shenanigans and also drooling over hot boys. I swear its like they sent all the hot boys to camp in AKS so much hotness everywhere.

My roommates were the best, and those girls were so fine ehn, we were like sisters, you wont know we had never met prior to that time. My Bonkie especially sadly she had to leave early something about call to bar cant remember the details.

Our state coordinator was very strict I didn’t mind because I was already used to all that where I came from, but she was also motherly. Though I didn’t go to the cafteria except jollof and chicken day the food I saw on peoples plates looked really good and there were generally no complaints. The night I got to camp I ran to mammi to go and eat my first afang and I loved it sadly it did not love me back as I would later get to realise that my tummy has zero tolerance for the okazi leaf.

I had plenty camp admirers but no camp boo... Click here for the full boulevard http://nyscsocial.com/2018/06/03/the-boulevard-of-an-ajebo-akwa-ibom-corper

Not like i want to blame her. But after reading the article she said Abuja is very expensive amd i doubt if her ppa was paying her. So why bother about going to work when she won't be paid.
Besides if the guy decides to foot the bills and provided a lovely accomodation, why worry herself?
NYSC / The Nysc Chronicle Of A Fresh Abuja Slay Queen by ugofwesh: 9:11pm On May 29, 2018
Hello Nysc Social, I read your blog almost everyday. I need advice on this issue I’m in right now. Red pen highly appreciated.
I met this guy during NYSC while I was in camp. He seemed like he was a regular guy at first, I really clicked with him because was very smart, cute and funny, you know how camp is, everyone is wearing white you can’t tell who is who. As time went on I realized that he was from a rich home (those Hausa families) my family isn’t bad but we don’t have that kind of money o!

Also I’m not Hausa.

I talked to him about it, he acted like it wasn’t a huge deal, told me his family is liberal, he isn’t easily influenced, he knows what he wants bla bla. So we carried on, (I should mention that we met in the Kubwa camp, Abuja) rent is expensive af in Abuja so I stayed with him during NYSC.

I was serving in one nonsense office like that so I didn’t usually go to work, it’ll just be me at home when he goes to work.
One day his driver came home, and while we were gisting I used style to ask about his family, he actually confirmed that they’re ok and bae is very stubborn and doesn’t allow them to influence his life and everyone usually just leaves him alone. So I relaxed and allowed myself to enjoy the relationship.

Service year ended, I went back home, I wasn’t retained and my parents were giving me side eyes, my mum kept asking what I was still doing in Abuja so I had to go back home.

While I was home he’d call everyday and talk regularly, at one point his number was switched off for days I couldn’t reach him. Finally he called, told me he switched off his phone cos he was being pressured by his family to marry his 3rd cousin (I think) now that he’s done with NYSC.

I told him to tell them that he was still in a relationship so they’ll leave him alone, he told me he did, but they are refusing to acknowledge me. (I met his mum once and she was very passive aggressive and dismissive of me) his siblings are nice tho.
We talked, he told me he wasn’t interested in her, she’s bratty, entitled etc. So that was it.

I finally found an excuse to tell my parents and went back to bae’s house, everything was normal until one day when he had gone to work, I got bored I decided to look for an old book to read then came across a box filled with plane tickets to Dubai, at least 15 of them, there was one that had the same date as the time he was unavailable (I know she lives there) although there were many tickets from before then too.
I don’t know what to do at this point, if I confront him he’ll accuse me of snooping and get mad, but I don’t want a situation where I’ll be forming girlfriend and he’ll go off and marry who his family approves of.

He is usually very straightforward if he says he doesn’t like something or someone, that’s it, nothing will change his mind, he also goes to Dubai a lot so it could be nothing. But I don’t know why he didn’t tell me he travelled
