Diabetes is a condition that occurs when your blood glucose, also known as blood sugar, is abnormally high. Glucose is essential to your health because it provides energy to the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. It is also the primary source of fuel for your brain. Diabetes is classified into three types: type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Diabetes has become a major public health concern. In most countries, it is one of the leading causes of premature illness and death. Diabetes affected 34.2 million people in the United States in 2020, accounting for 9.4 percent of the population. Diabetes affects one out of every four people over the age of 65. In adults, type 2 diabetes accounts for 90 to 95 percent of cases. It is a major cause of kidney failure, blindness, and amputation. Diabetes is caused by a variety of factors, which differ depending on the type. However, regardless of the type of diabetes you have, it can result in an excess of sugar in your blood. Too much sugar in your bloodstream can cause serious health issues. Diabetes can be prevented, controlled, and even reversed with a healthy diet. There are several factors that cause the world economy to be going down. This article will itemize those factors. 1. Higher Rates When interest rates are low, it’s cheaper to borrow money. Since it doesn’t cost as much to borrow money, more money is available to buy goods and hire people. For this reason, low interest rates are designed to make a slowing economy grow. When interest rates are increased, it costs more to borrow money. That means that businesses will not borrow as much in times of higher rates. When that happens, businesses spend less and hire less. In turn, this slows down an economy and if the economy is already slow, it can cause a recession. Raising interest rates puts the brakes on economic growth. 2. A Stock Market Crash The stock market refers to the collection of markets and exchanges where regular activities of buying, selling, and issuance of shares of publicly held companies take place. Such financial activities are conducted through institutionalized formal exchanges or over the counter (OTC) marketplaces that operate under a defined set of regulations. There can be multiple stock trading venues in a country or a region which allow transactions in stocks and other forms of securities. Since the stock market is a vote of confidence, a crash can devastate economic growth. Lower stock prices mean less wealth for businesses, pension funds, and individual investors. Companies can’t get as much funding for operations and expansion. When retirement fund values fall, it reduces consumer spending. 3. Falling Housing Prices and Sales The housing market is closely linked to consumer spending. When house prices go up, homeowners become better off and feel more confident. Some people will borrow more against the value of their home, either to spend on goods and services, renovate their house, supplement their pension, or pay off other debt. When house prices go down, homeowners risk that their house will be worth less than their outstanding mortgage. People are therefore more likely to cut down on spending and hold off from making personal investments. Housing investment is a small but unpredictable part of how we measure the total output of the economy. If you buy a newly built home, it directly contributes to total output (GDP), for example through investment in land and building materials as well as creating jobs. The local area also profits when new houses are built as newcomers will start using local shops and services. A sharp drop in house prices adversely affects consumer confidence, construction and leads to lower economic growth. (falling house prices can contribute to economic recession). 4. Manufacturing Orders Slow Down Manufacturing is the production of goods through the use of labor, machines, tools, and chemical or biological processing or formulation. Manufactured goods are necessary for trade and this industry contributes trillions of dollars to the global economy. No other sector comes close to these numbers. Manufacturing generates more economic activity than other sectors. The innovation found in the manufacturing industry has helped to increase economic productivity too. Since the Industrial Revolution, the way we produce and consume goods has changed, and it’s an innovation that allowed (and continues allowing) the nation to become increasingly more productive in the services offered. Manufacturing helps raise living standards more than any other sector. If the manufacturing orders slow down, it could drag down related industries and disproportionately affect parts of the country where factories employ thousands of people. 5. Deregulation Deregulation is the elimination or reduction of government power in a particular industry, usually enacted to create more competition within the industry. The goals are to allow industries to operate businesses more freely, make decisions efficiently, and remove corporate restrictions. However, the main objective is to remove barriers to competition so that particular industries can compete in the international market more easily. One of the advantages of deregulation is that it stimulates economic activity because it eliminates restrictions for new businesses to enter the market, which increases competition. Since there is more competition in the market, it improves innovation and increases market growth as businesses compete with each other. But disadvantages are that without restrictions in place, small businesses are at a higher risk of being driven out of the market by larger, more established companies. The larger companies are capable of creating monopolies to take control of the market. Also, customers are more exposed to fraud and excessive risk-taking by companies, social concerns are lost, and rural and other unprofitable populations are underserved. All of these have negative consequences on global economic growth. 6. Deflation Deflation is defined as a fall in the overall level of prices in an economy and an increase in the purchasing power of the currency. Deflation can be caused by an increase in productivity, a decrease in overall demand, or a decrease in the volume of credit in the economy. While deflation may seem like a good thing, it can signal an impending recession and hard economic times. When people feel prices are headed down, they delay purchases in the hopes that they can buy things for less at a later date. But lower spending leads to less income for producers, which can lead to unemployment and higher interest rates. Although it may seem helpful for the price of goods and services to fall, it can have very negative effects on the economy. As prices drop, company profits decrease, and some companies may cut costs by laying off workers. Interest rates tend to go up in periods of deflation, which makes debt more expensive. Consumers and businesses often decrease spending as a result. Deflation is generally less favorable and is associated with economic contractions and recessions. A deflationary spiral may turn hard economic times into recessions and then depressions. 7. Trade War You must have heard of the US–China trade war over the past few months. This is one of the major factors which has the potential to impact world economic growth. The simple reason why the US-China trade war is so important is that these are two of the biggest economies in the world. The combined trade activity between these 2 totals trillions of dollars, a significant portion of the total global trade. The impact of the trade war on the GDP of the global economy in general and these 2 countries, in particular, can be severe. 8. Crude oil price Crude oil is a naturally occurring, yellowish-black liquid found in geological formations beneath the Earth’s surface. It is commonly refined into various types of fuels. Crude Oil is a major fuel used across a lot of industries that together comprise the global economy. It literally uses to generate electricity, powers the transportation industry by way of diesel and jet fuel. In a very basic sense, higher crude oil price increases inflation and impacts global economic growth. It would directly decrease the purchasing power and adversely affect household income and consumer spending. 9. Asset Bubbles Burst An asset bubble occurs when the price of an asset, such as stocks, bonds, real estate, or commodities, rises at a rapid pace without underlying fundamentals, such as equally fast-rising demand, to justify the price spike. The bubble itself sets the stage for a recession to occur when it bursts. source: https://sosgurus.com/ |

ekababy123:Don't follow Utad advised, Portugal embassy doesn't grant visa for undergraduate student talk-less of language courses. Even here in Portugal they don't issue study permit for people study one year Portuguese language. I have a lot of friends from Senegal facing these problem. |
adepojusaint:Go only for M.Sc leave PhD, not easy to pay that kind of money here unless if you have backup at home. After your master degree you can enroll for PhD in a well developed countries (Germany, Usa, Canada, England etc). Portugal economy is not that buoyant, but Portugal is a stepping stone to achieve your dream. |
adepojusaint:Congratulations on your admission. Coimbra University is well recognized than Utad unfortunately Coimbra only have classes in Portuguese language. 3000 euro for M.Sc student is a bit expensive but what is your course of study before we make our conclusion. Securing a part time work during study: Undergraduate and Master's student are not allow to work only PhD student but that doesn't me you cannot get a part time job. Firstly learn their language the rest is story (Nigerians no dey kari last). As a student doing part time job you can earn 400-600 euro per month, don't expect more than that because Portugal is also facing economic crises. Wish you best of luck |

Xadeeq:When I got admission to study in Portugal last year, I sent an email to the Portugal embassy in Nigeria and they replied me with exactly massage they sent to you. But when I contacted those that have done it before I was advice to take this steps: Get all your documents ready then go to Abuja. Start from Ministry of Education Certify your O,Level Certificate, Bsc Statement of Result or Bsc Certificate and Transcript. After that proceed to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Certify your O,Level Certificate, Bsc Statement of Result or Bsc Certificate, Transcript and Police Character. Both ministries we take you one day. The next day go to the embassy and submit the following document: 1. Admission Letter 2. Accommodation Letter 3. Bsc Result 4. Transcript 5. Police Character 6. Bank Statement 7. Sponsorship Letter 8. Study Leave Letter from place of work 9. International Passport 10. One photo Passport 11. 20 or 21,000 Naira for Translation of Police Character. When you get there the consular we cross check your documents and issue a bank teller for the payment for Translation of Police Character. The verification will be done along with visa processing. Note: If any of the above listed document missed or you failed to submit it you will be called to bring it. That means another cost of transportation to Abuja. It happens to me be aware. Good Luck to you and to the rest in the forum |
hybeenoni:Please make sure you have 1,000 euro at hand that we enable you to pay part of tuition fee and 2-3 month accommodation. Getting job is depending on your ability to speak Portuguese, you can get without speaking Portuguese but very slim. Therefore start learning the language online if you intended to study and work. |
@ xadeeq Firstly, Congratulation for securing an admission in Portugal. The journey is very near to you if you follow the following steps: 1. How long does this Verification of Certificate/Transcripts By the Embassy take? Answer: It takes time but since you are applying for master not undergraduate just ignore the verification at their embassy until all your documents is ready for submission. 2. From whom are they verifying? Ans: for post graduate they verify at NUC but for O.Level Certificate at the various Secondary Schools. 3. Is there a way to speed things up (if verification is with my school)? Ans: Yes, if you went to submitted just your academy certificate it will take much time and money for going and coming to Abuja. Wait till all your documents is ready. This logic is only for those going for post graduate course not undergraduate. Undergraduate needs to go for verification first and pay 50,000 naira before submitting other documents. 4. As I am in Lagos, can I send someone to submit the Credentials for me (proxy submission)? What would I need, in addition, to give to the person? Ans: You can not send someone to submit on your behave you have to be there in person. I meet Cameroonians and Ghanaians in my school they told me that they applied for their Portugal visa in Nigeria. I asked them did you send it through courier services or send someone. Both replied that is not possible, they have to traveled to Nigeria in person to submitted their documents. 5. Whats the specs for the Passport photo collected at the embassy? Ans: if your visa is granted the passport photo will be in that visa. 6. I currently do not have accommodation in Portugal, I will only get it when my visa is ready and pay my remaining school fees. This would even probably mean when I get to Portugal. How do I make case for this during Visa Application? Ans: Send a mail to the school and request for hostel accommodation and included in you mail that you we need the accommodation letter for visa processing. Do that as soon as possible, if possible tomorrow morning send them a mail. Because Portugal visa takes longer time at their embassy. 7. For the proof of financial capability, I am not sponsoring myself. Whoever my sponsor is, what is the minimum amount that should be in the Person's Account? Remaining school fees is about 4000 EUROs. Does Block Account apply here? Ans: Block account is not applying in Portugal. Make sure that the money in your sponsorer account is above 1.5 million, 2m to 2.5 million is ok. 8. After verification and submission of Visa Application, how long does it take to hear from the embassy? Ans: It takes time because the Portugal embassy in Abuja is only one attending to all other west African countries. Therefore, you need to get all the document in time and submit it if possible by April. Also, the embassy will still need to take it to their home office in Portugal for decision on it. And here people applying for study in Portugal are many from various part of the world especially the Brazilian, Ukrainian, Turkey and some of the countries they colonies in Africa. Even here in Portugal to book appointment at their immigration office for resident permit it will take them up to a month before them called you for interview. Because people are many applying for their permit. Hope the little i said will help you and others. |
