Health / Re: Breaking:- FG Sacks All Resident Doctors by ujustice: 10:46pm On Aug 14, 2014
The federal government is not this stupid, or is it? If this is true then it is national terrorism. The doctors won't feel it, fg and its officials won't feel it, just the poor Nigerian masses. Very sad development. Oh how the founding fathers of Nigeria weep in the grave.

This is the original oath nurses take at their induction into the profession.
I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly to pass my life in purity and to practise my profession faithfully.
I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug.
I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling.
With loyalty will I aid the physician in his work, and as a missioner of health, I will dedicate myself to devoted service for human welfare.[1]
Florence nightingale will be weeping at this her disloyal descendants who have fought to remove the part on loyalty to physicians and have gone further to fight physician in a union of rebels called johesu.

This post shows that there is nothing wrong with nigerian doctors. Doctors all over the world may go on strike to protect the lives of their patients and thier own welfare.

An agreement was finally signed between the Finance Ministry and the Doctors' Llabor Federation Thursday afternoon, ending a five-month-long struggle. The agreement, which is expected to drastically change the face of Israeli medicine, is the achievement of negotiations that dragged on for almost a full year, starting in September 2010.

The 36-page-long agreement was signed by representative of the Finance Ministry Ilan Levin, Doctors' Labor Federation chairman Dr. Leonid Edelman, and representatives of Clalit HMO, Hadassah Hospital and Government Service.

The agreement, a compromise between the demands of the doctors and the ministry, was signed after a breakthrough in recent days between the two sides. The breakthrough was due to the facilitation of Yitzhak Peterburg. The details of the draft agreement were published Wednesday, and the two sides deliberated intensively overnight to iron out the final details.

The deal includes a 49 percent average salary increase for hospital doctors, who will now clock in and out, and the addition of 1,000 doctors at public hospitals. The wage hike is not equal across the board; the hikes are much higher for doctors in outlying areas or in specialties that are short of physicians.

The agreement is for nine years, retroactive to July 2010, when the last deal expired. The agreement will increase funding for doctors in the public health system by NIS 2.7 billion.

Doctors working in outlying areas will earn an average of 20 percent more than their counterparts in the center of the country.

Differential increases will also be paid to physicians in specialties with doctor shortages, including general surgery, internal medicine, pathology, geriatrics, child psychology, hematology, emergency medicine, nuclear medicine and pediatric oncology.

An especially high increase - 70 percent - will be given to specialists in fields where the shortages are acute, including anesthesiology, intensive care, pediatrics and neonatology.

Moreover, medical residents who move to the periphery or choose to specialize in a field in which doctors are lacking will be given a one-time grant of NIS 300,000. Residents who do both - move to the periphery and specialize in a field with shortages - will receive a grant of NIS 500,000

humnsikan:

If the pathologists and radiologist are that all-rounded, they should obtain the samples and analyse same, strictly adhering to standard procedures, and I bet they'd start crying. Look here, we the masses have tolerated these doctors enough.

I still do not understand where Nigerian doctors got this mentality from. They are totally not in tune with international best practices in healthcare. They are yet to see that healthcare delivery is a team work and the patient the focus of the team, hence, their constant resistance to the progress of members of the team, which is to the detriment of the patient.

Let me ask you: can you mention just one treatment or preventive procedure in the hospital that does not utilize a product of a pharmacueutical company before, during or after such procedure? Who the hell are you to say that the role of experts in such products, i.e, pharmacists, is unimportant, when you and I know that everything in the hospital, at the end of the day, boils down to drips, disinfectants, medications, etc? Why do you say that nurses are not an integral part of the healthcare delivery and that their role is equally unimportant? I feel the doctors are afraid that with recent developments in the healthcare sector, which they have, till now, been running as their personal property, some of their fraudulent activities would not easily be covered up. So pls, next time, think with your cerebral cortex and not limbic system (At least I know some elementary medical terminologies, Lol).
. If you fall sick or need an operation take it to a pharmacist, nurse or lab scientist...you can go further and take it to a hospital cleaner. Be reminded that a pharmacist by training should work in a drug company producing drugs.do you know that engineers are members of johesu? How would you like to go to a hospital headed by an engineer? Or a law court where the judge is a medical doctor from the courts clinic, because he has the longest years of experience working in the premises of the court? No let's make the clerk in the senate the senate president after all he has been there longer than the elected legislators..

There is no need to complain about the strike by doctors. There are consultant nurses, pharmacists and lab scientist, consultant records staff and consultant cleaners manning the hospitals. Johesu has asked for legalisation of quackery while they go behind to privately consult medical doctors. Soon the court clerk will fight to b a judge or say their salaries should be equal, senate presidency should b for national assembly staff not the sole preserve of legislators. Instead of going to school to read medicine they took the easy way out and want equal renumeration? Everywhere except Nigeria medical doctors are first class citizens. In Nigeria it is more profitable to be a nurse than a doctor. Nurses work for two weeks and are paid for the whole month. Doctors work 24 hrs most days and are not paid over time. I have seen doctors pay out of pocket for critically I'll patients who arrived hospital with no money. its a shame that this is even an issue, in the military a doctor of a lower rank than a nurse, pharmacist etc is the automatic commander in charge of a military hospital, even the military that holds seniority in high esteem recognised that the doctor is in charge of a hospital by default. Pls those who say doctors are useless and should not b in charge of hospitals have an opportunity to demonstrate the capability of other support staff to take charge of the hospital therefore they should see the strike by Doctors as a welcome development. But those who recognise the use fullness of doctors and agree that only doctor can b trusted with human life should prevail on government to do the right thing. When I fall sick I want a medical Doctor to see me no one else, I don't know about you?
