The chief of army staff had a meeting with the whole department of the army some days ago & has directed the GOCs of 6 & 82 divisions stationed in the east to cage their troops throughout 30 May, no soldier should be seen outside on uniform or any military paraphernalia and let the civil police do there job diligently that they should only intervene if & only if they (6&82 divisions) are called upon to do so. PoliticsSit-at-home: Tension, Anxiety In South East, South South by ukomko(op): 6:35am On May 30, 2017
Residents of major cities and towns in the South East and the South South, are gripped with fear of the unknown, following sit-at-home order declared today, by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The order was called by IPOB, to honour Biafran fallen heroes who died during the civil war between 1967 and 1970.

Some residents of Anambra, Enugu and Owerri are apprehensive of what may happen, if they violate the order, while others, have interpreted the order to mean declaration of war.

But, Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB)/ Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) has backed out of the sit-at-home order.

To that effect, Police Commissioners in the regions have urged citizens to ignore the order.

They urged citizens to go about their normal businesses without fear of harassment and molestation by anybody, saying they are ever ready for eventualities.

In Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State, since there is the likelihood that markets may not open for business, investigations by Daily Sun revealed that traders from far and near flooded various market to buy goods and travel back to their various places to avoid being stranded on that day.

Also, the food stuffs and condiments market, Ose Okwodu Market, was crowded with buyers.

There was security beef-up in Onitsha as both the Police, Army, Navy and Civil Defence Corps were on ground to ensure the security of lives and property in case of eventualities. Security agents were stationed at various strategic places with combined patrol teams moving round the town in show of force.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Okuala, while urging residents to ignore the sit-at-home order, asked them to go about their normal businesses without fear of harassment and molestation by anyone, assuring that the police is ever ready for eventualities.

While threatening to deal ruthlessly with any person causing breach of peace, he warned parents to ensure that their children and wards remain calm and ensure peaceful movement.

Owerri, Imo State residents engaged in frantic purchase of food items and other necessities as a result of the order.

A visit to Ekeukwu and Relief Markets both in Owerri, also showed that there were panic buying among residents.

This was just as both public and private schools in the state capital have reportedly been asked to remain at home to avoid any untoward development.

But, the Imo State police command, in a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, advised members of the public to disregard publications and posts circulating in the social media by pro Biafra agitators directing law abiding citizens to sit-at-home on May 30 in remembrance of the struggle for Biafra independence. He said the publications are not only inciting, but, represent unpatriotic and hostile propaganda against the sovereignty of Nigeria.

Similarly, the Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said it would not disturb anybody who voluntarily decides to obey the order, but warned that it would not tolerate any attempt to coerce innocent citizens to comply.

In Abia State, the Nigerian Police helicopter has been flying round the city of Umuahia, the state capital, at almost roof top level.

It was also gathered that the concentration of the air patrol is not unconnected with the fact that the founder of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, hails from Umuahia.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Abia, Mr Geoffery Ogbonna, could not be reached on phone, but an officer at the Central Police Station (CPS), told Daily Sun that it was a “Show of Force to remind IPOB boys to maintain peace and order and reassure innocent citizens of their safety.”

MASSOB/BIM) stated it had already celebrated Biafra anniversary on May 22, 2017 and maintained that Biafra anniversary which was May 30 during the era of late Emeka Odimegwu Ojukwu was changed to May 22, when Ralph Uwazuruike succeeded Ojukwu.

The group’s Elders’ Counci, in Asaba, Delta State, yesterday, lamented the mix-up, and said history has bestowed the leadership on Uwazuruike, after Ojukwu’s death.

Also, MASSOB/BIM has threatened to storm Anambra Police State Command Headquarters with millions of their members if the police delays in releasing their members arrested during their Biafran independence rally celebration on Monday last week.

PoliticsWe Shall Hold Osinbajo Responsible If Any Igbo Man Is Killed – Ohanaeze by ukomko(op): 7:37pm On May 29, 2017
Ahead of the sit-at-home declared tomorrow, Tuesday, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has vowed to hold acting President, Yemi Osinbajo responsible should anything happen to pro-Biafra agitators.

This is coming amid fears over alleged plans by security operatives to open fire on the agitators who shall be observing a sit-at-home to mark the 50th year of Biafra declaration.

In a press statement made available to journalists, which was signed by the groups’s Deputy National President and the National Secretary, Dr. Arthur Obiora and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, respectively, the OYC said, “Ndigbo shall hold Osinbajo responsible as the Acting President of Nigeria should anything happen to any of our youths.

“We shall not take lightly the spilling of the blood of any Igbo man today because these are non-violent agitators and their agitation is protected under every known law.

“As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo is very much aware of the constitutional rights of these agitators and he should therefore not allow himself to be used as an instrument to suppress lawful expression of opinion.

“He should, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria call all security agencies to order to ensure that they do not engage in mass murder.

“We have had enough of this mindless killing of our people and we are not going to take it again this time.”

The group called on Igbo traders and workers to comply with the sit-at-home order of the pro-Biafra groups, stressing that “the international community is watching; so, if we can show unity as a people, if we can show solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu and Uchenna Madu, the leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, respectively, the United Nations and other international organizations will not just accord us respect but help us in pushing for a referendum.”

PoliticsBiafra Day:what We’ll Do To IGP If Any IPOB Member Is Killed–pro-democracy Group by ukomko(op): 2:03pm On May 28, 2017
A pro-democracy group known as Concerned Nigerians, has warned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, against unleashing anger on pro-Biafra agitators, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as they mark the May 30 Biafra remembrance day.

The group threatened to drag the IGP to the International Criminal Court, ICC, over his directive to Police Commissioners in the South-eastern states to be strict and firm in dealing with pro-Biafra agitators during their events.

The group disclosed this in a statement signed by Deji Adeyanju and John Danfulani, Convener and Secretary respectively.

The group was responding to a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood conveying the IGP’s directive to officers in various police commands in the South-East to deal decisively with members of IPOB who have planned a series of protests in celebration of the Biafra Remembrance Day.

The group argued that the Police have no justification to want to stop the celebration because the Biafra Remembrance Day has huge significance for the Igbo who experienced huge losses during the Nigerian Civil War.

The statement continues, “We do not see any justification whatsoever for the police to prevent the celebration of Biafra Day. In fact, the attempt by the Police to stop the celebration is a provocation in itself.

“This directive contravenes the right to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, freedom of association and freedom of movement as enshrined and guaranteed in the Nigerian constitution.”

The group further disclosed that late last week it contacted the Chief Prosecutor of the ICC, Fatou Bensouda, on the violations of IPOB members’ rights, including the killing of over 150 of them by security agents. The ICC Chief Prosecutor, added the group, promised that action will be taken.

The group added, “Since a clear threat has been issued by the Inspector- General of Police vowing to deal decisively with the IPOB members, we wish to draw the attention of the Nigerian Police to the fact that protest is a human right and it must be respected.

It also argued that the issues being raised by the IPOB, Biafran Independence Movement (BIM) and the Movement of the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) were subjects of intellectual debate.

“Nations do not kill their citizens when issues of self-determination or referendums are raised. They engage them in an intellectual debate where reasoning and superior arguments prevail as in the case of leave or stay in the UK and Brexit,” the group stated.

It called on IPOB, BIM and MASSOB members to be law abiding in the exercise of their rights of assembly, movement and protest on Biafra Remembrance Day.

“Their approach should remain non-violent resistance even in the face of harassment and intimidation.

“If any Biafran is killed on May 30th, it will be as a result of the directive given to all police commissioners and formations nationwide and we will drag the Inspector General of Police to the International Criminal Court,” the group concluded.

PoliticsBiafra Celebration: IPOB, MASSOB Dare Police by ukomko(op): 12:26pm On May 28, 2017
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have vowed that no human being can stop the programme to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of Biafra, slated to hold on Tuesday, May 30, across Igbo land.

The reaffirmation of the resolve of the two self-determination groups to go ahead with activities planned to mark Biafra Day came against the background of the order by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, directing his men to deal decisively with Biafra agitators.
The two groups in their separate reactions described the IGP’s directive as naive, primitive and unfortunate and held that all the security operatives in Nigeria put together would not be able to thwart the Biafra celebration. Speaking to Sunday Sun yesterday, the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Comrade Emma Powerful said: “It is unfortunate that the IGP would give orders to his men to deal decisively with the freedom fighters on May 30 remembrance day and 50th year anniversary of Biafra declaration by Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu. He must have known that he cannot stop the sit-at-home and the 50 years remembrance anniversary. Is he going to stop it in 120 countries of the world where this will be observed?

“No man born of a woman can stop it; even the Nigerian security agencies put together cannot stop the programme. As I said, everybody must stay indoors, no street protest or rally. Can the Police or Army go to somebody’s home and order somebody who is inside his or her home out? “The announcement from the Nigeria police shows that the Nigerian security agency doesn’t know the norms. IPOB doesn’t want to confront anybody but let them not feel that we are not properly informed about what we are pursuing.” MASSOB in its reaction advised the people of Biafra and their supporters to be careful not to fall prey to the trigger-happy Nigerian security operatives on Tuesday during the Biafra Remembrance Day celebration.

Consequently, it said that people should observe the sit-at-home order so as to disappoint the security operatives who have been ordered to treat anyone seen outside as a protester.
MASSOB leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu who gave the warning wondered why the Nigeria Police boss would give such order not to allow them honour and respect their fallen heroes and heroines.
His words: “It is very naive, primitive and a mark of stupidity on the part of Nigeria police to declare a murderous onslaught on the people of Biafra on 30th May in an exercise that we say is an indoor program. Are they planning to kill us even in our homes? Do we have any public functions like rally or processions? Our people should be very careful on 30th May.
“This same police that are threatening to kill MASSOB and IPOB people on 30th May are still telling the residents to ignore our voluntary order for sit-at-home and go about their normal businesses. This hypocritical stand of Nigeria police, Army, DSS, Navy etc is an implication that whoever they see on the road will be killed, any shop or market that opens will be vandalized by them in the name of looking for MASSOB or IPOB members.

“Another implication is that any vehicle seen on the road on 30th May will also be vandalized and confiscated by police and army.
“MASSOB therefore is urging the people of Biafra to be wise enough now that our enemies are seriously looking for a way to kill us; we should not fall into the trap of these Hausa Fulani police and army on 30th May, the only solution and tactics that will shame and belittle the Nigeria Police, Army, DSS, Navy and others is to be obedient in staying at home on 30th May, 2017 as a mark of honour for General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and the fallen heroes of Biafra gallant soldiers and civilians, it is also a mark of respect to our fatherland, Biafra.” Powerful further said that plans had been concluded for the programme saying, “IPOB has perfected the arrangements for the event which must hold on 30th May 2017, we are now on countdown to 30th May. There is no going back. Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has said we should go ahead and remember and honour our fallen heroes and heroines who paid the ultimate price during the genocidal war against our people in 1967 and 1970.
“So nothing can stop the event on that day, you can see that international observers will monitor it. It is better the Nigeria police mesmerize themselves in the face of international community and observers who will be around on that fateful day.”

MASSOB leader, Madu, added that the IGP’s directive was an indication of the fear that has griped the Nigeria Police, but advised them to channel their attack on the terrorists in the north including the herdsmen terrorizing the country. “MASSOB advises the Nigeria Police, Army, DSS, Navy to channel their military skills and actions to the criminal Fulani herdsmen ravaging some villages. They should concentrate their military energies on Islamist terrorist groups in Arewa land and kidnappers in Oduduwa land,” Powerful said.

PoliticsWe Won’t Tolerate Further Attacks On Fani-kayode – IPOB Warns Arewa Youths by ukomko(op): 6:11pm On May 25, 2017
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Thursday, cautioned the Arewa Youth Forum, (AYF) and other Northern groups against verbal attack on former aviation minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.

The IPOB said in a statement by its media and publicity secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful that it would no longer condone baseless attacks on Southerners.

He declared that “we are watching the situation with kin interest but we warn the Arewa Youth Forum and their sponsors to stop attacking Femi Fani-Kayode.

“‎IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will not fold their arms and watch a sponsored group like Arewa Youth Forum to insult Chief Femi Fani Kayode or any Southerner, who is standing against the injustice inflicted on the citizens by the Northern oligarchy.”

Powerful stated that “the attack on Femi Fani Kayode and the governor of Ekiti State, Chief Ayodele Fayoshe by some sponsored groups and Youths from the Northern part of Nigeria, is a clear indication that the youths in Arewa land are brainwashed totally by their politicians, irrespective of their suffering in that part of Nigeria.

“Therefore, we in IPOB want to let the world know that we are in full support of the brave outspoken men like Femi Fani Kayode, Gov. Ayodele Fayose and those who stood their ground without fear or favour to speak out against the Northern Nigeria injustice.

“These men of honour in the persons of Fayose Ayodele and Femi Fani kayode deserve the respect of all not condemnation because they stand for justice and equity.

Ifeanyi Ubah: Confusion as another court orders DSS to detain businessman further

“Let it be noted by all in Nigeria, that IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Biafrans are not cowards to antics of the North and its agents like the paid gangs of Arewa Youths Forum and other groups in the North who were brainwashed by northern politicians since the creation of this contraption called Nigeria.”

The IPOB spokesman further claimed that “Buhari is the number one hater of the Igbos because he has been showing his hatred on Igbo people since he started and all and sundry knows that his actions on Igbo people speaks louder than his voice.

“There is no doubt that his actions against the people from Igbo extraction always proves that he has a deep hatred on them.

“In 1984 when he toppled the democratically elected government in Nigeria led by Alhaji Shehu Shagari, he openly detained the former vice president of Nigeria Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme and other prominent politicians from Igbo extraction in maximum prison and kept those politicians from other part of Nigeria mostly those from the North in a house arrest because they are not Igbos.

Biafra at 50: Osinbajo at event, says only fools learn from experience

“In a similar vein, we call on Igbo politicians under name of World Igbo Congress who scheduled to sit in Enugu on Saturday 27th of May 2017 to deliberate on how Buhari’s administration will give them appointment in his government to desist because we in IPOB are not fighting for appointment in Nigeria government rather total liberation from this prison called Nigeria”.

PoliticsBiafra: Court Frees 35 IPOB Members by ukomko(op): 5:51am On Mar 04, 2017
A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has discharged and acquitted 35 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who were arrested during a solidarity rally for US President Donald Trump, on Friday, January 20, 2017, in Port Harcourt.

The trial Chief Magistrate, Sokari Andrew-Jaja, freed the IPOB members because of lack of diligent prosecution by the Police and Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the State.

The Chief Magistrate criticized the Police and the DPP for lack of diligent prosecution, which led to the remand of the suspects for more than a month.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the accused persons regained freedom, Counsel for the IPOB loyalists, David Onyema, accused the Police of deliberately keeping the arrested suspects for no genuine reason.

Onyema said, “the court has discharged them based on section 303 (6) of the law. On the ground that the DPP did not bring any advice because there is no reasonable cause. The law says where there is no reasonable cause shown that there is any offence committed, the defendant should be discharged unconditionally.”

It would be recalled that Chief Magistrate Jaja, had, in the last sitting, issued a hearing notice to the Commissioner of Police or the State Attorney General to appear in court (yesterday), to explain why the detained pro-Biafra protesters should not be released unconditionally.

He gave the order after hearing arguments from the IPOB lawyers and the prosecution, on why the DPP’s advice on the matter was not ready within the 10 days given by the Court.

The freed Biafra agitators, who were arraigned at two different Magistrate Courts in Port Harcourt, January 23 evening, were arrested at various parts of the State capital during the protest. They were among the 65 persons Rivers State Police Command disclosed they arrested during the peaceful demonstration, that later went bloody. During the solidarity rally for Trump, scores of the youths were reportedly shot dead and many injured by security operatives trying to disperse them by force.

The discharged and acquitted persons were arraigned on a two-court charge of conspiracy to commit treasonable felony and display of unruly behaviour.

In Count one, they were accused of committing “treasonable felony and committed an offence punishable under section 516A (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume II Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.

In Count two, they were accused of conducting themselves “in a manner likely to force or compel the President to change his measures by displaying flags and other items of the Biafra Republic, with such intention by an act to take over the government of Nigeria by force and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 41 (c) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume II Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999”.

The Chief Magistrate had denied them bail due on the ground that if the suspects were granted bail, they could constitute nuisance to the society.

He, then, ordered that the case file should be transferred to the State Attorney General for onward transmission to the Office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), for legal advice within 10 days.

The Chief Magistrate ordered that the accused persons should remain in detention pending the advice of the DPP, and adjourned the case till February 17, for hearing.

On February 17, the adjourned date, Counsel for the accused persons, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, suspected “foul play” in the trial of his clients, after the court failed to sit on the adjourned date, January 30, after their arraignment, without prior information from the court.

Ejiofor also expressed worry that some of the accused persons, who sustained injuries during the arrest, had not received medical attention from concerned authorities since their incarceration.

Meanwhile, there was jubilation around the Rivers State Judiciary Complex in the State capital, yesterday, by supporters and relatives of the freed IPOB loyalists.

They called for the unity of the Yoruba people, and stressed the need for the race, in different political parties, to shun their differences and unite for the overall development of the race.

The leaders also called the need for the restructuring of the country. “President Buhari should take the glory of restructuring Nigeria. It will be a glory for him and he will forever be remembered if the country is restructured during his time.”
