To avoid this repeating itself, even if it's to be sent by GIG or transit within Lagos , take a mini protective measure on your end by using wrap tapes on them, especially the indoor units, they cost about 6k and you can use 1 on more than 10 AC in fact. If you need to charge customer for it, that's your decision.

And when customers ask that you use other Waybill means apart from the one you recommend are safe and secure, let them know you're not responsible for how it's handled in transit.

Many don't see this as necessary, but one never knows when this will happen.

Just checking my mentions...

Well, Uber package rider is not same as Uber ride, it's usually way cheaper than even Gokada and the normal delivery charges, which in most cases, is even cheaper than transporting to and from the delivery location, time spent and stress factor is also involved, why would anyone want to go through that when delivery fee is about the same or even lesser?

Don't forget that the point here is for customers that don't trust a vendor and if they can't go to the store, they can book the package pick up themselve and the rider is loyal to them and their instructions, just as if they sent a rider they know to confirm an item before paying and picking up.
Besides, when the kind of customers I've had don't have issues with paying delivery fee, why would I leave my store to engage in transporting about to make a delivery? Not even for the ones within my store area, there are people meant for that and that's even deviating from the point of discussion.

How A operates their business shouldn't necessarily be the same as how B operates, and this doesn't hinder delivering an excellent service to customers.

As there are unserious and bad sellers, so we have them in some posing as customers too.
One still sent his address and contact for delivery of my last 6feet Xmas tree last week as POD, with consent to booking delivery for the following morning, which I'd told 2 others is no more available, only for him to not pick up when rider was calling before setting off and left dm unopened till date, had to go back and giving the other interested customers story, they'd already gotten elsewhere, an unserious customer that hindered sales to another, if I'd requested payment before delivery, that wouldn't have happened.

So like I always say, it's easier to conclude when one hasn't walked the shoes of the other person.

Many legit vendors have seen more than enough in the hands of customers online, so if they're not running pod and the little or big sales they make is enough for them, fine.

Buyer also has all rights and freedom to seek purchase from another vendor that maybe offers the services they require.

We can’t be perfect all the time but we should always try , I’ve had to shared delivery fee with buyers , how is that indiscipline? In yehmy case , he was in a small town in Ogun state ( I don’t want to reveal his location), not sure he even mentioned that until after the transition, I had to first transport myself to oshodi terminal all the way from Lekki for free ,I got there and started looking for vehicle going to that town, handed it to a driver , I think he was expecting the headset before the close of work and it was delayed for an hour , this guy never complained to me over 6 months ago until he used me as example on here, this is a guy that thanked me for the headset saying his wife has snatched the Jabra headset and needed another one and I told him I’ve sold all, sometimes you just don’t call an innocent person name in a matter that doesn’t concern him because you want to off their shining star, I know I sell lovely things and everyone love them

I only wish the person who got these two yesterday night will come and say how lovely and how useful they are just to shame the haters.

All your point are valid but it goes both ways.

Let me use FutureFocus as example, I bought headset from him and he told me a dispatch rider is coming to pick up goods for a very known person on nairaland, that since my office is along ikd road I can just use that dispatch once and for all. I said okay good idea, paid for the headphone and told him and the dispatch I close by 4pm instead of 5pm that I normally close because I know how dispatch riders behave. They will want to run all business they have on a particular route before moving to your route. Believe me since 7am that we conclude, dispatch didn't arrive till 6pm after several calls between me and seller it almost turn to another issue because he stops answering calls at a point. I was about leaving the office past 6, that is 1 hour extra and 2 hours more than the time I gave dispatch to be my closing time, even I already crossed the road to catch bus before he called and started giving excuses of how his bike was faulty, he couldn't call or respond to msgs.

Now another scenario, have ordered something and there was a delayed by dispatch and by the time the dispatch showed up, I already went out and could not get my stuff but the dispatch already received money and told seller I was not available. Thank God seller was introduced to me by a friend, so we had to resolve and another dispatch brought my stuff the next day.

My point is will I buy something as POD in a case we have not had any transaction b4 or I'm not convinced you are genuine and you will tell me to pay for dispatch upfront? For me Hell No! Even if you won't scam me there's every possibility your dispatch rider can behave like a mad person.

Your experiences wouldn't have gone that way if perhaps you dealt with a disciplined vendor that know how to handle dispatch riders that decides to stress himself and not the seller or the customer.

If I dispatch an item and inform the rider the customer wants it by a certain time and he's not able to meet up giving reasonable reasons and notification upfront, then rider or seller is meant to ask if it's fine with you to receive the following day at your convenience. I would tell you to go about your activities of the day after haven apologized and not leave you to the hand of dispatch rider, knowing how majority of them behave, and you're also not obliged to wait endlessly, except the item is needed urgently that same day, because an agreement was made before your order/dispatch and I as a person values keeping to one's word.

For the part where you may not be sure of the legibility of a vendor, if it's perhaps a vendor that has a walk in store, it's left to you to risk paying delivery fee or visit their store or send someone. If it's one without walk in store, it's left to the seller to choose to compromise their operating rules knowing well the rate of scam online nowadays and the prospective customer's skepticism is valid, and if the seller chooses not to compromise, well, like I do advice customers seeking advice about patronizing an online vendor they're not sure about, if the amount is beyond a few thousands and you can't risk it, look for a vendor selling the same thing with a walk in store, if I happen not to have any contact selling same.

At one point or the other, either party has to compromise, and if they choose not to, there definitely will be a place the item is being sold that can be visited physically, I even gave a customer an option to send Uber Package rider to pick up, I'll do a video call when the rider he sends arrives and confirms the item, he pays and rider goes to him, knowing we'll how stressful it can be for some to navigate within Lagos themselves.

There's always going to be choices for both parties.

As much as you make lot of sense and I can see reason with this explanation of yours. I will also point out that this is not a case of me buying used item, I am buying new Item and seller didn't indicate the goods had defects or it's not as described. In this case if it's not a case of what I ordered vs what I got, I don't think there should be a case of you rejecting or saying you are not interested in what you request for yourself since it's same as what you ordered.

I will paint a scenario for you, let's say after ordering the shoe, I have paid for dispatch and on getting to me seller sent another shoe or a wrong size and I reject it, with your explanation I will forego the dispatch fee I already pay, isn't that a seller mistake that could have happened unknowingly or intentionally (in a case where he's not sincere). Will I still bear the cost of dispatch?

Returning of goods can only happen if what I ordered is not what I got, since it's a case of new Item and I was the one that sent a picture of what I want. Even jumia had a refund policy that covers your delivery fee upon return of item. It's business and POD is very much different from PVO (Payment validating order).

To each it's own, that may be his own style of business it's fine and good, maybe it doesn't sit well with me, it's also my business. Not like have never paid money upfront for things I want but in this case it just doesn't sit well with me.

I do hope you understand now? Please feel free to respond if you still have more enlightening to do. ☺

I'll give you key points as to why some request for delivery fee before dispatching, please note only sellers may be able to relate to this and buyers, unlikely.

1) Some people are unserious, pose as customers to order and after you dispatch item to them, they ghost you. Seller still has to pay for dispatch because he did his own job using resources and time.

2) Some customers change their mind last minute for reasons best known to them and believe me, many of them would try to avoid paying for the delivery man's fee and the seller will have to start chasing them about online for it.

3) Some customers will not be reachable when the rider gets to the destination after they've already been notified delivery is on the way... Reasons given later, sorry I was sleeping, my phone was on silence, oh I didn't hear it ring, oh I had to step out for an emergency, something came up to do, I won't be needing it again and I didn't know how to tell you.
These are different excuses I've heard over years of selling.

4) Some approach with the intent to scam the seller, rider gets to them, they claim to have paid and you await alert, claiming it's probably your bank and the rider is impatient as he needs to go for other jobs, when you eventually figure them out, they block seller.
Rider still needs to get paid.

5) Waybill outside Lagos I was running with GIG and POD for the goods, I wasn't collecting anything till the day an item got there and for 3 weeks, customer kept saying he's been busy and unable to go n pick and no one to send. It was from that day I started charging for Waybill fee only, then they pay to GIG on pick up, before I eventually stopped POD outside Lagos.

I've had a customer whose wife didn't like the idea of rug he ordered and returned to rider after they'd already laid it in their living room, gave to their security to fold on top of a car outside that had dew and dust, I still have that rug wrapped somewhere as I type cos I can't sell it as new again.

So many genuine sellers have experienced unbelievable issues over POD or selling online just as you didn't believe anyone would choose to not but something again for no genuine reason and return it, me I dey even charge return fee on top the delivery fee the customer will pay, as long as it's not a fault or defect from my end, you will pay for the delivery and return.

So for me, if the location is more than 1500 2k, fees I can bare to risk paying if the buyer turns out unserious and doesn't want to pay it, but further locations like 3k 4k, I sometimes demand for delivery fee alone as well.

Every seller with his/her own business process.

How it started...

I have bought a handful of items from Dearygally, all of which currently runs into N200k+, including the freezer I recently bought which has become a problem. So here's what I noticed from our transactions over time, FULL DISCLOSURE IS NEVER HER STRENGTH even though she hs quick to label them 'working perfectly' and two different items I bought from her left me confused and disturbed but I did not bother her or feel the need to disturb her.

Let him at least try and If it gets to the point of any request for money, then he'd know what's up himself!

You're relatively new to NL, an old account at that has a lot more experience with these things, and unlike your assessment of withdrawal or not, scammers come up with different tactics daily, some would even leave the fund should in case the scammed happens to be a Somebody with strings and they gotta return the fund and claim they never even touched the money.

First of all... The money might not still be in the said account because as a scammer that he is he would have withdraw the amount instantly and hence no money will be in that account.

To the person saying that the money is still in the account that you need his number to call him to know more about recovering his money... That is a blunt lie because we both know there is no money in that account... You just want to try and collect more money from him as mobility funds etc...

To you femiblacky ...sorry for the scam you got your self in but if you are going to do anything.. Do it your self... Go to the bank.. Get police report etc and take it up ur self. Most people here will use this opportunity to claim saint in order to help you.. But deep down them self want scam you.
