I was on a piling project somewhere on the island in Lagos. The operators were steadily scheming ways to avoid getting to the required depth before casting.
On one occasion, at about 18m, he told me he was done, I was distracted on this particular day so I wasn't really following up on what he was doing. I didn't argue. I told him to go ahead and cast.

My security guy came to me and asked me why they were about to cast (before now, I had explained to him how many pipes needed to be drilled before they achieve the required depth of 21m, and that he should always inform me if he notices anything otherwise). I told him the operator said he was done with drilling. He disagreed, and told me they had one more pipe to go. I got mad and went to the operator.
The operator denied and started raining abuses on my security. Things got heated up and a fight almost broke out between the operator (and his labors) and my security (and his brothers).
From soil test result, @ 18m, we were good, but I needed to ensure that if the operator cheated, he shouldn't think of attempting it again. I allowed him cast, after giving him a stern warning. Then I doubled my surveillance on his activities.

A few days later, he did the most. I caught him red handed this time. Story for another day

These workers can be terrible.

Hello house,
I have this leakage issue on my roof slab. Like, water penetrates through the slab. I have removed the tiles on it and re screeded the surface with mortal. There were tiny cracks all over the surface.
These cracks were treated with crack fillings painstakingly one after the other. And the next day, applied bituminous paint on the area.

To my dismay, after some days, the cracks resurfaced, such that I could see it through this thick coat of my 'felt' material. I feel though, the heat from the sun could be part of the reason for this. Or the crack fillings were not properly done.

I really need suggestions on how to tackle these tiny cracks before the rain.
Thank you all.

The wood is very unnecessary if the glue is of good quality. I hope these are internal doors?
Yes boss. They are internal doors.
Thanks for the quick response

I doff my hat boss spyder880 . Nice job. Following keenly.

I have a question on door installations tho.

Say, I don't want to use sub-frames, (i'm using 'foam gums' /glue). I insert small 2x3 woods by the sides of the door opening and dress to aid adhesion with the door frames. My installer tells me that the wood is unnecessary as the glue can stick the door to the walls directly. I have my doubts, so I asked my bricklayer to go ahead with fixing the small woods (just in case my installer was
wrong)...

So my question now is, can the door frames stick to the walls directly without those woods in between?

You can try to apply a little heat to the pipe to make it pliable so you can bend it back a bit. I've had success doing that a couple of times.
Be sure to use a heat gun (produces hot air), and not an open flame/fire because you will risk burning the pipe or making it too soft. Slow, steady pressure while heating it all around.

Try this technique with a spare piece of pipe first to get a feel for what will happen.

This is what we did. Chiselled d beam well enough, stretched the rebar outward, applied heat to the pipe to get it flexible, passed it through the stretched rod, readjusted the rod and then plastered.
Thank you once again.

Factor of safety does not cover for u cutting rebars lets look at it this way.
Let's loom at it this way u can bend the rebar move the rebar but not cutting the rebar for any reason whatsoever if an structur guy advices you like that kindly reject it.
More so buildings age and u are creating stress points when u cut rebar.
Regards
NB am not trying to sound smart or something safety is key no matter how beautiful or well furnished a building is nobody will use it if it's not safe.
The PH building collapse was not due to bad materials or technical know how it was due to poor supervision as the building collapsed due to have too many load imposed on the building in form of machines materials and man power cause vibrations in the slab members.
So please lets be very careful.
Cheers
Thanks once again. I'd correct d plumbing connect some other way.

It's never advisable to cut rebars for structural beam this approach should have been the last resolve. With the position of the pip u could have neatly positioned a duct at the corner to take care of the plumbing failure.aesthetics an never take precedence of structural stability it's very dangerous. Please invite us structural engineer to site before proceeding with this.
Please let's do all necessary to avoid building collapse .

All the best chief.
NOTE never cut rebars on any structural member for any reason whatsoever.
Thank you Chief. Advise duely noted.
Structural integrity before aesthetics.
So whts d use of factor of safety incorporated @ d design stage for each structural member. Shouldn't it b able to cover for such, Giving that all members are systematically connected to each other from roof to foundation. [Would such cutting disintegrate the entire structural connection]
Besides that part is far away from the 'max stress point",
of the said beam which supposedly has been reinforced.

Pls enlighten me sir.
