Nairaland GeneralNigerians To Enjoy Steady Power By Oct-fg by unapologetic(op): 10:30pm On Aug 29, 2014
The Federal Government yesterday said plans have been put in place to ensure steady supply of electricity in the country by October 2014.
Minister of Power, Professor Chenedu Nebo who briefed State House Correspondents in Abuja said government has made efforts to ensure constant availability of gas at power stations to boast power generation.

Professor Nebo, who spoke after a meeting on power stakeholders at the presidential villa, Abuja, chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo, added that the debt owed power generation companies would also be cleared.

He said “The generation companies have been complaining that they need to have all their bills paid. The good thing about this is that arrangements are being made to make sure that all the generation companies get their money as at when due.

“We are working on that. That is part of the meeting that was chaired by Mr Vice President.

“Next thing is how far we have come with the issue of even settling the gas question. The gas question has remained for quite a while. But very thankfully, the Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources and I, the central bank governor and chairman of NERC met severally to address those issues.

“And that eventually ended in finding resources to take care of the indebtedness of the generation companies to the gas companies.

“So once we take care of the backlog, we insist that the gas companies will eventually produce more gas.’’

He maintained that there are visible signs of government’s efforts to ensure constant electricity supply across the country in the past one week following improved gas supply.
“The cheering news from all of these is that if you have noticed throughout the country in the past one week people have been getting much better power supply.

“The gas is now beginning to come back and it’s something that gives all of us a lot of joy. And we know that it will continue to grow that way even until December because now some of the facilities, maintenance, repair works on the gas equipment and so on”. He added.

“The gas producers have come to a place where almost all of these is being taken care of, and then the new gas we are expecting we have then trickling in right now.
“So that part of the shortfalls we’ve had in production up to this time, we hope that by the beginning of October, we will see a much better stabilisation of the entire power delivery system in the country.

Speaking on generation capacity, Nebo noted that power supply have hovered around 4,500 mega watts.

His words, “First, I would say we rejoice that for the first time in a long time we have been averaging over 4,500 MW when we include nearly 300 mw of spilling reserve which is always put there to make sure that the reliability and stability of the grid is ensured at all time.

“So, we are really moving forward; it may not be as rapidly as Nigerians expect but it is important to let everybody know that indeed we are advancing, we are making progress and we will continue to make progress”.

"Yes Nigerian Soldiers Escaped to Cameroon and So What? For the sake of our fallen Soldiers, Someone should speak up.True Security budget is over a Trillion Naira every year. Only someone who is out to play mischief would think the military get 1 Trillion annually. Less than 5% of the money is ever spent on the brave men and women who chose to sacrifice for Nigeria. Less on weapon or training.

Do people know how many round of bullets you need in a year to train a battalion? We don't even have 'waste bullets' for new recruits. We are back to the days of using mock weapons. The Commander in Chief Goodluck Jonathan , Finance Minister and Defence Chiefs should make the breakdown available to Nigerians. Nigerians should demand a breakdown on how the budget on Security are being spent. As we are today the Army does not have ANY new set of hardware or weaponry.

The Airforce can only boast of just ONE serviceable fighter jet. We have more Presidential Jets, more private jets by Governors and contractors than we have a jet to defend our homeland. During one of the operations in Borno. Terrorists attacked our soldiers, they could not call for Air Support, young men and 11 female medical support staff fought and gave up to the superior fire power of the terrorists, they are Nigerians from every tribe.

Boko Harram slaughtered them and we have a defence spokesperson and Chief of Defence who would not present our terrible situation to the Commander in Chief
Do not blame military men who flee and do not blame those who earlier today made for Cameroon. It is not Cowardice. You do not fight terrorists with your obsolete weapons and see Commanders do nothing but remain contractors in our Nations capital.

Corruption is killing Nigeria but it is killing our military more. We are all in the mess together, as you make fun of our brave men and women for 'running away' from battle, you are poking fun at yourself!

My Dad is still a kid at heart when it comes to technology but my mom is the opposite... my Dad even took it a step further by adding me on BBM but I deleted him and lied that I lost my phone. Thank God we are not in thesame country lol. My mom has two android phones but she only knows how to make a call, text and take a picture. On her tablet, she only knows how to access her office work on it. My little bro is always the one one showing her what to do lol. It so funny that she wouldn't accept whenever I call her Old school.

This reminds me of the first time i volunteered for a cause abroad, the people were surprised because they thought every Nigerian is bad and can't be found helping the less priviledged. have even heard some people saying they know that the Ibo's are the bad eggs but i told them that every country has it's own share of bad people and this does not exclude Nigeria without pointing to a particular tribal group. i am Yoruba and i know that every tribe in Nigeria has it's own share of constituting to our bad image.

Journalists listen to the chemical weapons expert’s testimony

A White South African scientist has told the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that the White apartheid government considered trying to develop a bacteria which would kill only Africans.

The former head of a military research laboratory, Daan Goosen, told the commission that the project had the backing of South Africa’s then Surgeon General, who described it as “the most important project in the country.”

Although the substance was “officially” never developed, Mr Goosen said that an unknown European scientist claimed to have developed a strain of bacteria in the early 1980s “capable of killing pigmented people”.

“It could have been used as a negotiation back-up,” Mr Goosen told the Commission. “A thing like this could have been used to maintain peace. It was a case of being the strongest.”

Plans to travel to Europe for a meeting were abandoned because of fears that it could be a trap, but the witness said South African scientists continued their own work on the project, and also looked into methods of making Blacks selectively infertile.

Goosen also said he and his immediate supervisor, Wouter Basson, had discussed the possibility of killing Nelson Madela and Oliver Tambo – then President of the ANC – through the use of carcinogens, as well as arranging the supply of snake venom “to eliminate an enemy of the state.”

In other testimony, the former head of the police forensics laboratory, General Lothar Neethling, told the Commission that he had been instructed to supply Basson with confiscated supplies of narcotic drugs such as marijuana, LSD and Mandrax.

The intention, he said, was to extract the active ingredients for insertion into crowd-control grenades.

It was alleged that officials plotted to mentally disable Nelson Mandela with poison during the final years of his imprisonment

Mr Goosen told the commission he now realised that he was wrong to work on the projects, but said he had not been thinking rationally at the time.

“It was a time of conflict” he said. “Communism was coming. It was total onslaught.”

I have a dream that Nigerian will one day be the most beautiful and peaceful country in the world and a place where everyone will have a place to live and homelessness will be a history.

The word supporter of APC ( the trending word in 9ija) , bigotry, tribalism and nepotism will be eradicated. a country where all the Geo-political zones will live together in peace and harmony without the Yoruba's calling the Igbo's '' flat head'' or the Ibo's calling the Yoruba's lazy and dirty.

I look forward to the day that our country will be free from corruption, terrorism , hunger , hatred, religious wars and every other in-human crimes. it will be filled with compassion, peace, good governance, happiness and co-existence of people from all religions.

Unemployment rate will be below 5 % and everybody will be able to live comfortably on their wage. a country where youths will be given the opportunity to express themselves in every institution and a country where election will be free and fair.

This is my dream for my beloved country Nigeria.

I wonder why ya'll castigating this dude... I see nothing wrong in his picture and ambition. instead of supporting a young and vibrant Nigerian who wants to do what most of you are scared of doing, ya'all criticising him. The past leaders will always remain the leaders of tomorrow with the display of ignorance and un-ambitious attitude displayed by you all.

Instead of seeing a Young Nigerian, all you people are seeing is an Artist who wants to steal money. Would you rather let our ancestors called politicians remain in power till eternity?
