FG will plant grass to end herdsmen/farmers clash – OgbehBy Daily Post Staff on July 27, 2016@dailypostngr Audu Ogbeh The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, says the ministry will begin the paddock development (growing of special grasses for cattle) in August. Ogbeh told journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, that the ministry has started bringing the special seeds of grass (fodder seeds) into the country. Ogbeh explained that after some time, the country would become an exporter of the grass to earn foreign exchange. “The Saudi Arabia is asking that if Nigeria can grow enough grass they will buy to feed their cows,“ he said. He assured that with the paddock development, the clash between farmers and herdsmen in the country would be put to an end. “The clash between farmers and herdsmen has been getting worse by the years and by the grace of God I will bring it to an end,“ he said. He said that no farmer would allow his crops to be eaten by cattle. “No farmer in the world would like to plant his crops and arrive to see that cows have eaten everything up,“ he said. The minister noted that the problem had persisted because over the years, successive governments had not done enough to check the problem. He said that most of the conflicts were been perpetuated by Fulanis from some West African countries like Senegal, Mauritania, Mali among others. Ogbeh cited an instance where some of the herdsmen arrested could not speak any of the Nigerian languages. He said that there was a need for the country to end the herdsmen roaming with cattle even it was a culture. “Whether it is a culture or not we cannot afford it any more, it has to stop. The minister noted that one culture cannot become a source of conflict in the nation. He said that there are 415 gazing reserves spread across the country, with Adamawa accounting for 73, adding that some are gazetted while some are not. Ogbeh said that many of them have been encroached upon, saying that the FCT was one of the routes, serving cattle going to the South East and South South from the North West through Benue. He said that after the development of ranches, it would be an offence for any herdsmen to allow his cattle to roam the streets. The minister said that land has been allocated to government in some states that would be used for ranches for herdsmen to acquire for their cattle. He said that cattle produce more litres of milk when they are kept in one place than when they walk about in search of food. Ogbeh said that the ministry was collaborating g with the Ministry of Interior to provide security at the ranches to check activities of cattle rustlers. (NAN) |

Buhari is only recovering looted funds he is not blocking loopholes. Fighting corruption also entails blocking all avenues thru which corruption and loothing of treasury may occur. If loopholes are not blocked, Looter's will continue to looth the treasury even after buhari leaves office. To block loopholes we need to reform govt spending habits. We need very strict money laundry laws. Apply full cashless policy nation wide and further reduce cash withdrawal limits on all class of accounts. Strengthen and reposition the judiciary or set up special court to try looters and ensure very stiff penalty is handed to the guilty. Prohibit huge cash withdrawals from govt accounts. All payments to contractors, govt officials or agencies e.t.c must be done thru electronic transfers, For record purposes FG. should Set up an internal control and audit system for all MDA's. To monitor MDA operations and financial transaction, to institute control and report exceptions to auditor general and the efcc. Mandate a transparent full disclosure of public funds to the general public thru quarterly reporting of all MDA accounts.. Income and expenditure. Prohibit cash movement in excess of N1m on all nigerians (private individual) and empower the authorities to seize such excess. Create laws that will compel political parties to source for campaign funds thru open public donations. Create laws that will compel super rich public office holders to disclose their source of wealth to the public other than salary earned. Punish contractors with up to 20 years jail term ..if they receive payments and abandon the contract. Sack the entire police force, Recruit and train educated and well fed people into the police force with minimum qualification of NCE. Create laws to jail bribe takers and bribe givers and jail people who give or receive contract kick backs. Computerize and automate the pay role system synchronize with BVN and National ID no. and maintain data of employed Nigerians to identify persons earning multiple salaries from multiple govt employments. E.t.c Mr president is only recovering stolen funds and granting padon to thief's. Buhari have done nothing yet to 'stop' corruption and looting of the treasury. PIA. |

Love Machine:APC does not understand d difference BTW job creation and employment... |
virus05:Tnx bro...zombies will remain zombies |
Its crazy to hear lai and APC say they have fulfiled their promise of creating job when indeed they have done nothing. That you are in the process of employing 10,000 policemen and 500 teachers is not job creation its simply employment. Policing and teaching jobs have been created in d colonial era by the British. Subsequent government simply continue the process of employing more hands Buhari, Lai and APC have to understand that creating jobs is about introducing new ideas, building new businesses, assisting small businesses to expand, encouraging and attracting foreign direct investments. Supporting local farming and encouraging more farms investmenting in technology, construction of economic infrastructures. e.t.c With these jobs jobs jobs will be everywhere. Businesses will spring up and people will be employed. Small businesses will expand and more workers will be employed. Foreign businesses will be here and there and local people will be employed More people will go to farming if they are encouraged. In yr 2000 obasanjo introduced telecoms investment..MTN ECONET e.tc millions of jobs was created. Jonathan re-introduced rail way and automobile industry. Hundreds of people are employed today in the industry. These leaders did not go about employing 10,000 policemen and 500 teachers they did not go on air to brag that they have created jobs. APC's idea of job creation (thru employment into civil service) will only cause more problem. They will end up increasing overhead cost of running the government. Especially in this time they are all crying that there is no money. They will end up owing workers for months upon months hunger will set in and people will begin to lay curses upon them. To Lai mohammed Buhari ans APC. You have not cteated jobs. You did not create policing and teaching. You have not yet employed anyone into the police or teaching service. No body have been given his employment letter yet. Therefore you are yet to fulfil the promise of creating 3m jobs per year. PIA.. |
