WAYS TO PREVENT DAMPNESS IN A BUILDING.
1. If hollow sandcrete blocks are used for the foundation walls, ensure you fill the holes in the blocks with weak concrete and not earth filling.
2. Introduction of DPC: this helps prevent the direct continuation of the foundation walls, this is the reason whereby another setting out of blocks is done.
In DPC (Damp proof course) are DPM (damp proof membrane) and Oversite Concrete (German floor).

There are several materials that can be used for DPM.
Polyethylene (the black nylon) is one, it's in various thickness, it's the most commonly used method.
Bitumen-based solution is another method, it can also be adopted.
But the major thing is to consult an experienced builder or professional in the field for precise solution.

Note to potential home or building owners:

While factoring money for other parts of the building, make sure you do not neglect DPC, it is as important as every other component of a building, it is a member of the foundation that must be fully taken into consideration.
Most people don't look at the side of DPC at all and this messes up their completed structure.
