You are the cause of every hilarious and ominious things you see, because you are not ready to repent. You initially said God created all the technology. Is it God or is it my sin or is it the scientist that creates these things? Decide. |

My pastor says I was a sinner from birth, because I have original sin. Ordinarily I would be happy to have one less pirated property, but it's sin we're talking about here. Is he correct? Am I a sinner just because I was born?
Bonus question. Is using a phone made in a factory which employs child labour a sin? |

Jesus was basically a spirit. His body could have been in any condition and he'd still make use of it normally, kind of like how evil spirits reanimate corpses in movies. So the fxcked upness of his body is actually a testament to God's glory. |

Tufanja: Just thinking... "What is the purpose of physical laws?" ...somehow a weird question. The use of terminology like "purpose" and "meaning" already betrays a position, which can out of its nature not be atheistic. If atheists are consequent in their position, life can have no meaning.
If one talks about physical laws...it betrays a concept...laws are designed..serve a purpose...so time to change the terminology because it doesn't fit in an atheistic world view. Welcome to the atheistic religion . No declare me war o! Lol. No war. I'm not exactly atheist, but I don't think the universe owes anybody meaning. Some people do, so I want to know what they think the purpose of natural laws are. It is somewhat taboo to call atheism a religion here tho. |

Tufanja I plan to try your good wine someday. I'd prefer to come upon it by accident. The surprise should make it sweeter. But of course I could spare the time and energy if I have to. About a man's sex drive, I think even after accounting for all the things you mentioned, the average guy still has the higher drive. Its just the cross we are burdened with . Haters can only hate, but to be safe where would you rather discuss it? |

Tufanja
I have an entirely different view of the matter. I don't believe that having numerous partners prevents you from eventually being smitten and sticking to one person. For my own part, I've been in a couple of relationships, tho I'm presently not in one. The fact that you can get over being in love tends to make me wary of it. I think the magic of sexual intimacy is inferior to that of an emotional or intellectual one.
I agree with you that women have more to lose from casual unprotected sex, which I would not advise either. And at least you agree that it is man like to be a "sex being".
All your points are fair, but romantic love is not always a priority. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Did God Create Natural Laws by undercat(op): 11:32pm On Feb 23, 2015 |
A few threads on here today have made me think about this matter again.
What can someone who believes in an omnipotent God possibly mean by the statement "the earth/universe is perfect for life".
There is nothing that isn't perfect for life, as far as God is concerned. A comet, the center of the sun, a blackhole, a universe where nothing is heavier than helium, just name it. This leads us back to the question "what is the purpose of physical laws?"
And of course, how can you say that the earth is perfect for life when you don't believe that life could have arisen on earth naturally? |
Christianity Etc › Re: A Challenge To Nairaland Atheist by undercat: 5:52pm On Feb 23, 2015 |
tobechi74: Okay. Here is your chance to design a universe that is better than the one we live in. Many people claim that the poor design of our universe and/or God's involvement or lack thereof results in a universe that is unacceptable. In order to present a thorough model, please address all the following issues:
1.Will the beings you create be equal to you or less powerful?
2.What degree of free will will you allow to those beings?
3.How will you prevent those beings from hurting you, each other and their creation?
4.What will you do with those beings who break your rules?
5.What laws of physics will you use?
I encourage you to "think outside the box." The universe you design does not have to be similar to our universe. Change the laws of physics. Think about gravity, thermodynamics, matter, energy, etc. Think about the beings who you create. How will they interact with you and each other (you don't have to use the five senses that we have)? My goal is to get you to think deeply about the issues of free will and love and how those issues are affected by the physical laws. I look forward to your ideas. Here are some other people's ideas: 1. If we are assuming that I am God, then it is not possible for anything to be equal to or greater than I am in power. 2. The same amount of free will that I have. 3. I won't create harmful things. The beings I create will be immaterial, for starters. 4. What rules? 5. None. I am God, I don't need physics. If I were God, I won't create anything at all. I'm not an atheist tho. |

Christianity Etc › Re: If God Is Good And He Created EVERYTHING, Where Did Evil/bad Come From? by undercat: 10:16am On Feb 22, 2015 |
If evil is a consequence of freewill and God has freewill, then evil came from God.
If it is acceptable for a being with freewill to be incapable of commiting evil, then God created evil by allowing the capacity to commit evil in man when man was created.
Long story short, na God. |

simplex2: Telling her is not an option, rather, I'll make her find out. It will require time and many life examples to drive it in. I don't know how she'll take it if I just throw it at her. I know we need to be in the same frequency if we're going to commit but my greatest fear remains how she'll take it!
@bolded, there's no question about if I'm going to remain agnostic. Religion is simply deceptive! One simple method is to get into an argument about the efficacy of prayer, or the goodness of God, and stick to your guns until she is forced to ask why you would say such things if you believe in God. You can then give her your answer. You don't have to spend much time. |

simplex2: Wow! Nice thread. There are loads of issues we can discuss in-house. Was thinking of starting a thread about certain things but decided against it; since the obvious religious felas will invade it with their fanaticism.
This is the first issue bugging me: My girlfrnd. We've dated for yrs now and we're planning on getting married next year. But one thing has always lingered in my mind: religion! I'm agnostic but she is a devout christian. We started dating long time ago when I was still a christian; but after my mum's death, I realized all the promise of ask and it shall be given were false. That was the spark to my quest for answers: and I discovered I've been lied to ALL MY FVCKING LIFE!
I was supposed to see her parents this xmas but I developed cold feet and called it off. I'm yet to tell her I've left religion; she's yet to understand why I backed-off. Don't get me wrong, we love each other like mad! This is our 4th year dating. I do love her but the issue of spending the rest of your life with someone of contrasting believe scares the shit out of me; what happens to the children? What if she believes she can rope me in and then turns to a nag thereafter? I know I should tell her, but I'm still scared of loosing her. I wouldn't want her dumping her religion because of me so its kind of complicated.
What do you guys think? If you're going to remain agnostic for a long time, it is better you tell her about your agnosticism now. Whether you tell her or not, she will find out eventually. She needs to know about something like this before she goes ahead with marrying you. The sooner you tell her, the more time she'll have to consider your position, and maybe endorse it. Why does it matter what her reason for dumping religion is, assuming she does that? |

johnydon22: Then imagine how you can do this without a body (flesh) ... magic?
How are you going to be in existence without a form (flesh) and extension (hands, feet, eyes, mouth etc) which are all products of the form.
If it is true that God created the fundamental physical particles, it would mean that one does not need flesh or even matter to exist. These days, it appears that what we thought of as solid matter might not be so solid after all. Some people even think its all a bunch of information. And then you have consciousness, which you can hardly explain completely in a physical manner. "Form" might be a little over rated. |
