Religion / Re: Gobe!dead Priest Wakes Up To Declare That God Is A Woman by undercat: 11:43am On Feb 21, 2015
Can you see all of something that is everywhere? Which of God's body parts did he see to decide that God is female? Can a spirit have a body? What makes us call one person female and the other male; their body or their mind?

Most people don't understand the sort of being a God would be. You might as well say gravity is a woman, or electricity is male. Even a whole priest does not know better.

then u are confused. I must ask u what do u understand by the word God?

I think you may have misunderstood the OP. For it's purposes it suffices that God is the omnipotent and omniscient creator of our universe.

So am guessing you are implying this deity in the deist conception?

I'm not implying any particular deity. As far as attributes of the deity are concerned, what matters here are the omnipotence/omniscience of the deity. It just needs to be powerful enough to have created the natural laws. The theist is my concern here, as I feel there is an inconsistency in believing God to be all powerful and yet incapable of achieving whatever he wants through natural processes, which is implied when they reject a natural account for the existence or state of certain things. Any sort of theist may hold this belief.

I hope my point is not too obscure.
Religion / Re: Why Did God Create Natural Laws by undercat: 5:38pm On Feb 17, 2015
It's no particular deity. All that is required is that the deity be maximally great.

I'm most familiar with the christian deity. Also, the better part of the audience here are christians. If you use a generic sort of God, most people on here won't be able to relate. I tried to make the OP as general as possible tho.

I suppose you agree that there are natural laws. If you are a theist you believe that these natural laws were made by God. These natural laws therefore can be capable of allowing anything whatsoever, having been made by the omnipotent.

A lot of the theists I know would agree with the above paragraph, but then turn around to say things like "human life could not have arisen from natural processes" or "order cannot come from chaos" or "this/that is a miracle (violation of natural laws)", and such.

Basically, theists have decided that the natural laws that the omnipotent perfect God made are not powerful enough to perform certain tasks that they (theists) deem complicated. They would however concede that what seems complicated to them cannot by dint of that be complicated for God, and thus nothing can be too complicated for God's natural laws.

If you're a theist and you believe that natural laws, despite being made by God, cannot do any heavy lifting, I'd like to hear your reasons for that and for why you think God would have gone to the trouble of creating such seemingly complicated laws if they are not useful for anything significant.

This load of BS you have posted contradicts the very essence of reason.
To reason is to keep an open mind and ruminate on all possibilities, removing the obvious impossibility, like religion.

Once again, think before posting.

Religion is quite possible. You can even see religion all around you. Whether or not God exists is up for debate. Its not a question that has been settled conclusively. Can you take me through the steps by which you arrived at the conclusion that it is not possible for God to exist?

You should know that reason can't dictate what reality is, anyway. The fact that you trust reason to be able to tell you everything is what makes you religious.

I love to read too. Is reading a religion too? Also I love to post on Nairaland, is that a religion too?

I guess you'd call those 'Reading' and 'Posting' right? With a capital letter starting the words?

One advice - think.

But thats if you wont tell me 'Thinking' is a new religion.

For you, Reason plays the role that Yahweh plays in life of a christian. Where the christian believes that Yahweh is all he needs to navigate through life and learn about his purpose and about the universe, you believe instead that Reason will give you those results. You don not believe that there is any other alternative or possibility. This belief guides your every action.

Religion / God's Reality by undercat: 4:00pm On Feb 13, 2015
This is another of those threads where we try to decide what God can or cannot do, if he exists. Theists can then ponder the consequences of our collective decision.

We all agree that reality is independent of the mind of the observer. A real thing is to be found outside the mind of whoever perceives it. Reality would have rules which you could not alter or bend. For example, I cannot cause a past event to repeat itself, or delete any event from history/time/memory. This is because these things are real and independent of me.

Would you say that anything is real in that way for God? Or is everything a product of his imagination?

If he has a reality, there are a few implications for his omnipotence, at the very least. If he imagines everything, including you and I, then none of us are real.

Contributions?

Anything that has life is life. Life is an inherent property of anything that lives.

If all life must come from a previous life, it makes sense to ask who gave god life. Else I can also assume no one gave other living things life.

Exactly. A theist tends to want to know the specifics of how life came about, unless you say it's God's doing. Then they don't care about the specifics.
Religion / Re: God Created His Own Life by undercat: 3:18pm On Feb 13, 2015
You're assuming that everything is alive just because man doesn't know all there is to know. I don't really see the connection, but no wahala.
