Literature / Re: Sun Newspaper Vs Punch Newspaper by uniben82(f): 5:29pm On Mar 14, 2006
I visit sunnewsonline periodically. I'm assuming they(sun newspaper) are one and the same. They are what most in the US refer to as "tabloid".

Religion / Re: Can We Truly Forgive And Forget? by uniben82(f): 4:25pm On Mar 14, 2006
That phrase to "forgive and forget", reminds me of another saying "it is human to err and divine to forgive" (sorry if that doesn't sound quite right)-which leads me to believe that it’s impossible to whole heartedly forgive without divine intervention. We may try to put unpleasant or negative experiences behind us. We may try to tuck it away. We may even try to place it on the back burner. But it'll always be there because there'll always be a moment where one is reminded of that which one had tried to forget. In my opinion, that phrase is a tough pill to swallow-however; I think most of us try to carry on without constantly trying to drag the past into the present. Besides, history tends to repeat itself and if you don't or can’t remember, you're bound to make the same mistakes. I think I've rambled enough for now. Too much coffee I think! grin

Fashion / Re: Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria 2006 by uniben82(f): 3:22pm On Mar 06, 2006
I guess somethings in life never change.  Entering a beauty pageant is degrading? Wow- only in Nigeria!! By the way Seun, my statement to Rhodalyn was intended as a simple question, seeking clarification or answer.  It was not a criticism by any stretch of the imagination. Have a nice day! smiley
Fashion / Re: Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria 2006 by uniben82(f): 12:37pm On Mar 06, 2006
Seun, she is what she is.  Her name is her name.  What is wrong with an Ibo/south eastern name anyway? Does it really matter? I sincerely hope the intent of your response was humor with a sarcastic twist.

Rhodalyn, for what it’s worth, I’m still scratching my head; trying to make sense of your mind boggling statement.  “ miss lagos, miss akwa and miss niger are beauyiful but the rest are tooooooooo dark”  So, the others are not  beautiful because they are dark skinned…right? You can’t be serious! shocked
Culture / Re: Female Circumcision: what's wrong with it? by uniben82(f): 5:17pm On Mar 01, 2006
Not only is this practice inadvertently cruel to females, I personally think that it's a crime against humanity angry Education! Education! Education! and Imprisonment! Imprisonment! Imprisonment! The only way to combat its prevalence.  I wonder if some of our leadership figures would be willing to step up and champion such a campaign.
Health / Re: Bathing Every Day Not The Best? by uniben82(f): 10:31pm On Feb 17, 2006
Don't believe everything you hear, especially when it generalizes an entire race for a behavior that's specific to some.  The notorious "419" scam may have originated from Nigeria (according to what I've heard and read).  But that doesn't mean that every Nigerian is a scam artist.  By the way Rolly, it a good thing that you're able to "baf everyday, twice sef and i will wash down there as much and as often as i like." Because the tropical nature of the Nigerian weather (excessive heat & humidity) can be unkind to any female who chooses not to get cleaned up daily wink abi? Alright, I'm done with this topic. You all have a wonderful evening.
Health / Re: Bathing Every Day Not The Best? by uniben82(f): 2:33pm On Feb 17, 2006
I’ve read many interesting perspectives on this subject. It’s amazing how some of us are so quick to jump on the finger pointing band wagon of judgment.  Those of you who very quickly deviated from the “issue” (bathing) and started launching “personal” attacks on (white people), should remember this…
“Don’t judge a man (or a woman for that matter) unless you’ve walked a mile in his shoes.”
Over here in the US, if someone says “I hate taking a bath”, that doesn’t necessarily translate to “I don’t like to get cleaned up”.  It could simply mean that that individual would rather take a shower instead.  My husband is one of those people.  Throughout the past thirteen years of our marriage, he has only taken a bath 3 times.  shocked  Yep, he’s white and does not smell like a wet dog!
Most of us, if not all, irrespective of race or ethnicity have a body chemistry that predisposes us to body odor when personal hygiene measures are not adhered to routinely.  You with bad breath, do you think it’s less offensive than someone who smells from lack of a bath?  So you take showers daily. You believe you’re squeaky clean.   Tell me, when was the last time you flossed your teeth? Did you know that oral bacteria can be more detrimental to your health than the aftermath of not bathing?  Okay.  I’ll make myself stop for now. I’ve said enough.
P.S I don't bathe everyday either ; especially in the winter, when outdoors physical activities are limited. However, if I didn't use a deordorant, diaper wipes as needed and brush my teeth regularly, I'm sure I'll stink too and I'm not Oyinbo! grin
Have a great day everyone! smiley

Career / Re: Why Are All Africans Studying Nursing In America? by uniben82(f): 9:12pm On Feb 10, 2006
It certainly does make things easier in life. One can significantly increase his or her comfort level as needed. However, money can't buy you love. At least not the type that'll stick with you through thick and thin or till your golden locks turn silver.

Disney,
Not All Africans are studying nursing in America.  I majored in Communications and now work from home as a Freelance Writer.  At any rate, Hot angel is right.  The motivating factor for many African residents in America, (at least the ones I know) who venture into the field of nursing is unfortunately "mucho dinero" (big money in Spanish).  To anyone who's still trying to pave a career path, I say first figure out what you want to do with your life, and then go for it!  Remember, if it isn't a labor of love, sooner of later, you're bound to become a burn out! wink. Marsha Sinetar once said,"Do what you love, the money will follow" grin
