engineerboat:It's always easier to attack the person rather than the issue when the false truth we hold is threatened. Who told you that I'm not productive and so I'm blaming the church. Argue within the context, I'm not here to tell you about myself You seem not to understand the views raised here. It's only in Nigeria and Africa that you have more religious centers than manufacturing companies that's why Africans want to go out to those countries to get jobs because there are no jobs here. Here all you have is religious centers which doesn't feed the masses or provide food for the hungry ones. |
engineerboat:What's your point? They are not policy makers so most of these summits are speech making occasions which doesn't change anything even the leaders go to world conferences which doesn't also translate to something tangible. A serious country that wants to grow will focus more on productive ventures, they plan and strategize for the future rather than try to wish away the inevitable through prayers. |
engineerboat:1. We may have to deal with this issue of tithing in another thread. 2. What's the correlation between a business that is managed well and tithe payment? So according to your analogy, businesses that crashed didn't pay tithes. A flawed thinking which justifies earlier assertion that instead of investing in man power development for more productivity the focus is more on paying tithes and also are you saying that businesses owned by non Christians who do not pay tithes would not flourish? Let me also let you know that there's a natural law for giving, irrespective of your religion that's why any one who helps people is always blessed by God. 3. That assertion is very wrong! Government has business doing business and their business is to generate electricity, build roads, rails and airports to fast track movement of goods and services, build hospitals to sustain the well being of business men and women, provide loans to business, build and equip schools to provide the man power to keep growing the economy. They make their own profit called taxes at the end so government needs to be in business. Religious centers do not awake the productiveness in any society because it's not their duty to do so. The government, schools are supposed to do it. The religious centers should attend to my spiritual well being, how to live a righteous life. I'm am a Christian that doesn't believe in the prosperity gospel preached by most churches in a corrupt country like ours |
Eddygourdo:I just respect this dude! You really get the drift. Praying for employment doesn't create jobs miraculously, the people need to plan and take their own destines in their own hands and stop waiting for manna from heaven which isn't forth coming. We focus too much on religion which hasn't helped us achieve a good nation as a people! |
engineerboat:That's on the press right but do churches pay taxes? You don't get it do you. There is so much emphasis on religion thats why we are not productive, I'm sure you have more than two churches on your street, imagine if those were companies, people won't be praying about certain things but in Nigeria we pray about everything. Imagine if we were Japan where earthquake happens often and they are sure it's always going to happen, they prepare for it, fix their roads immediately it happens and move on, but in our society without natural disasters, a road can be bad and not motorable for years without being fixed. We are not proactive because we ascribe everything to the divine. If we were in Japan, we will all live at our various religious centres to fast and pray about a reoccurrence and possibly sacrifice humans to appease the gods. Religious centres is a means to get wealth from a disfunctional society like ours where people are hopeless! |
engineerboat:1. A place where the morals and values of the people are shaped with the hope of eternal destination but in our own case, the religious centres are not actually preaching this as the focus is more on material blessings and this can only be achieved by giving at the religious centres only, and also the religious centres too seem not to care about how these money came about, there's so much stealing going on and the religious centres are mute since they will be the beneficiary at the end, the country is very corrupt, so the religious centre has achieved 5% in that regards. 2. & 3. Like the previous answer to address our spiritual need to reverence our creator to also ensure that virtues of honesty, integrity, truthfulness, justice and righteousness are upheld in the society. "Righteousness exalts a nation...". Why are religious centres quite on the righteousness of the country where sin reigns supreme. 4. & 5. A manufacturing centre is where the productiveness of any society is hinged on. It is from this productiveness lies the answer to the economic growth of any society. So any society that relegates it's productive centres will always rely on religious centres for divine intervention which can never come. |
engineerboat:You have to get your facts right too my friend, if a private individual owns a school, the person pays tax but the church that owns a school or a hospital doesn't so who contributes more in terms of economic growth and so what if I want to evade tax and then I open a church first and then open a school? The churches are making profit without tax from these ventures. That's not the point, a society that focuses so much on religion as a panacea for growth and development wallows in poverty because their heads have refused to think and their hands have refused to work. The phones and other advancement in technology, space travel can never be achieved in a society like ours. Our society is like a student who has an exam and thinks that if he or she goes to the religious center to pray and fast success will be theirs which can never happen, but another chap spends time in the library and laboratory without visiting any religious center will be very successful because all we are looking at is physical growth. |
dabiko:you can only have pragmatic leaders in a society where the leaders themselves do not depend solely on divine intervention in nation building. It's all about the mindset, there's so much poverty and hunger in Africa while the real solution lies in agricultural productivity, the religious centers will invite members to their centers in the morning to pray rather than go to the farm to produce more food. For my friend that is saying that building religious centers doesn't stop building of factories, you need to understand one thing that the essence of going to religious centers is for the people to get solutions to their problems, so if someone is unemployed the person will seek divine intervention in the unemployment, but consider this same person in a society where there is productivity and more jobs, the person will attend church for a different purpose like I earlier mentioned; morals, salvation and eternal destination. If you think religion is not our undoing in this country then you are yet to visit other countries and see that the mindset is completely different. |
dabiko:It does so greatly. When Nigeria got her independence, there was so much hope in the leadership of the country but after few years things started deteriorating and instead of the people to insist on building a vibrant, technologically and agriculturally advanced society we then sought for divine intervention ONLY about the societal problems. This was when most of the mega churches today started springing up to give 'hope' to the people since it seemed as if the government has failed. The political and religious leaders know that people are focused on the divine intervention in areas of infrastructural and economic growth, so while the religious leaders focus on getting the little what the people have been able to get through tithes, seeds etc at the religious centres in order for it to be multiplied miraculously, the political leaders focus on feeding the people with crumbs which keeps them at bay and urge them to continue seeking divine attention to the societal issues because they make people believe it's not a physical one. There are cases where religious leaders will say that some sickness is not meant for the hospital, then why will the political leaders bother themselves about building health systems, since the religious leaders are there to perform the duties of the medical personnel. I believe in supernatural healing but we can still pray in a well equipped hospital. Countries like Brazil, Singapore who we started the journey of nationhood insisted in building a nation. Look at where they are today while we left our leaders to plunder the nation as they like and we sought for divine intervention in Power Generation, Water Supply, Agricultural produce, roads and rail network, educational and health institutions etc |
Emycord:I listed mosque as well which is also a religious center and at the end I wrote 'add yours' please feel free to list more mosque I left out. Your ending sentence means you are beginning to get the drift. So imagine if government spent money sponsoring scientist and engineers to developed countries to learn technology rather than attending a religious pilgrimage which benefits only the individual: |
Jokerman:it seems you don't know how much these leaders donate to religious centers. Some single handedly will build a religious center and won't also build a factory. |
Eddygourdo:You are smart! I give you a e-handshake. You see in a poverty ridden society like ours the purpose of going to religious centers is not for salvation but for some divine intervention in the poverty that's why the religious centers will preach on giving in the religious center alone to get more 'miraculously'.If people are not desperate for survival the essence of the religious centers will be more on morals, salvation and eternal destination and not breakthrough from poverty and material blessings which they fail to tell people that it can't come out of non productivity. |
Nalikedis:This is the funny mindset you folks are having, attacking my personality. You too imagine if the same man started a factory, won't we have had those number of manufacturing companies and family religious groups? Why is it that a lot of people choose to invest in religious centers than manufacturing because according to you it's an investment? |
musicwriter:You have a productive mindset. Most religious centers are bigger than car assembly factories |
Tyche:That's it! |
Larryfest:Thank you. Good enough people are getting my point. Those numerous religious centres worth billions of dollars doesn't stimulate the economy to productivity and economic growth. |
paschu:You still do not get it do you. I said religious centers and you are already focusing on the church. I haven't also said that there's no contribution to the society. You might have to define these contributions but if you still import toothpicks, matches, finger batteries, transistor radio, clothes, electric bulbs, tyres, bottles etc then I won't take you serious. You can not also sit down and talk about my contributions since you don't even know me. Probably you've gone to read my previous post, to come up with such conclusion that probably I'm not doing anything, the only thing I'll tell you is I have people working for me in my different businesses and I also pay my tax to the government. The argument has now gone personal so I'll let you pass. |
If you have more well built religious centers than productive centers then unemployment rate will be high in such a society as the people will want to solve every problem using the divine solution. I ask again which developed country has more religious centers than productive centers and is world power |
paschu:the schools and hospitals you mentioned are for profit making built from people's contribution. Was this how the early missionaries did it. I still insist, if we have 5000 religious centers and 20 manufacturing companies then there's a problem. |
Alawe:you get it wrong there. Are you saying developed and advanced countries don't worship God? How come they have the best health system, educational system, road and rail network etc You have focused so much on religion, what have you achieved? You have religious centers on every street has it solved the unemployment rate in the country? |
paschu:tell me the developed nation with more religious centers than Nigeria then we can continue. For you information, those organizations you say are privately funded are not. They money from members some who may use public funds meant for the masses to build these religious centers. Get my point, imagine those religious centers were manufacturing companies in one region in Nigeria In every society there's always a correlation of how the society is wired and how basic institutions will function. We don't we have well equipped hospitals in Nigeria? This is because we focus on the supernatural healing. I'm not saying we shouldn't but why not have both. So tell me why any government will want to fix the health centres. How many health facilities have you visited in this country? You won't understand there's no point debating with you |
Alawe:did I mention that people should stop serving God? You just jump into unnecessary conclusion |
paschu:what do you mean? Religious centers are built with public funds. Port Harcourt ecumenical centre is built by Rivers State Government and most central mosques in the north are built by their respective state governments. My point is on every street in Nigeria you have more than two religious centers, just imagine if they were companies. Unemployment will be low. This thread is for matured minds. Read this by Elnathan John: HOW TO WORSHIP THE NIGERIAN GOD The Nigerian god is one. It may have many different manifestations, but it is essentially different sides of the same coin. Sometimes, adherents of the different sides may fight and kill each other. But Nigerians essentially follow the Nigerian god. This article is for all those who want to become better worshipers. If you are a new or prospective convert, God will bless you for choosing the Nigerian god. This is just how you must worship him. First, you must understand that being a worshiper has nothing to do with character, good works or righteousness. So the fact that you choose to open every meeting with multiple prayers does not mean that you intend to do what is right. The opening prayer is important. Nothing can work without it. If you are gathered to discuss how to inflate contracts, begin with an opening prayer or two. If you are gathered to discuss how to rig elections, begin with a prayer. The Nigerian god appreciates communication. When you sneak away from your wife to call your girlfriend in the bathroom, and she asks if you will come this weekend, you must say—in addition to “Yes”—“By God’s grace” or “God willing”. It doesn’t matter the language you use. Just add it. The Nigerian god likes to be consulted before you do anything, including a trip to Obudu to see your lover. When worshipping the Nigerian god, be loud. No, the Nigerian god is not hard of hearing. It is just that he appreciates your loud fervour, like he appreciates loud raucous music. The Nigerian god doesn’t care if you have neighbours and neither should you. When you are worshipping in your house, make sure the neighbours can’t sleep. Use loud speakers even if you are only two in the building. Anyone who complains must be evil. God will judge such a person. This is how the Nigerian god judges people who are your enemies- evil people who want to spoil your hustle; like your colleagues who don’t want your promotion; like your single old aunties who secretly don’t want you to marry that rich handsome man (who you haven’t met yet); like all your neighbours who are stopping you from getting pregnant: He violently consumes them by fire. He returns all their evil plans back to sender. So when making requests about all your enemies, do not pray that they be forgiven or that they change. Pray that the Nigerian god kills them off with such violent finality that there is nothing left of them. Attribute everything to the Nigerian god. So, if you diverted funds from public projects and are able to afford that Phantom, when people say you have a nice car, say, “Na God”. If someone asks what the secret of all your wealth is, say, “God has been good to me”. By this you mean the Nigerian god who gave you the uncommon wisdom to re-appropriate public funds. Consult the Nigerian god when you don’t feel like working. The Nigerian god understands that we live in a harsh climate where it is hard to do any real work. So, if you have no clue how to be in charge and things start collapsing, ask people to pray to God and ask for his intervention. The Nigerian god loves elections and politics. When you have bribed people to get the Party nomination, used thugs to steal and stuff ballot boxes, intimidated people into either sitting at home or voting for you, lied about everything from your assets to your age, and you eventually, (through God’s grace), win the elections, you must begin by declaring that your success is the wish of God and that the other candidate should accept this will of God. It is not your fault whom the Nigerian god chooses to reward with political success. How can mere mortals complain? The Nigerian god does not tolerate disrespect. If someone insults your religion, you must look for anyone like them and kill them. Doesn’t matter what you use—sticks, machetes, grenade launchers, IED’s, AK47’s. If the person who insults your religion is online and you can't locate them, feel free to threaten to kill them. Like we say in Nigeria: "at all-at all na im bad pass". Something is better than nothing at all. The Nigerian god performs signs and wonders. He does everything from cure HIV to High BP. And the Nigerian god is creative: he can teach a person who was born blind the difference between blue and green when the man of god asks, and he can teach a person born deaf instant English. As a worshipper you must let him deliver you because every case of sickness is caused by evil demons and not infections. Every case of barrenness is caused by witches and has no scientific explanation. So instead of hospital, visit agents of the Nigerian god. But the Nigerian god does not cure corruption. Do not attempt to mock him. If you worship the Nigerian god, you are under no obligation to be nice or kind to people who are not worshippers. They deserve no courtesy. The Nigerian god is also online. As a worshipper, you are not obliged to be good or decent on Facebook or Twitter all week except on Friday and Sunday, both of which the Nigerian god marks as holy. So you may forward obscene photos, insult people, forward lewd jokes on all days except the holy days. On those holy days, whichever applies to you, put up statuses saying how much you are crazy about God. These days, the Nigerian god also permits tweets and Facebook updates like: "Now in Church" or "This guy in front of me needs to stop dozing" when performing acts of worship. In all, the Nigerian god is very kind and accommodating. He gives glory and riches and private jets. And if you worship him well, he will immensely bless your hustle. |

In the days of Abraham there were no Bibles and religious books, yet Abraham could believe and serve God acceptably. We attend religious gatherings and listen to sermons, some of us even sermonise as religious leaders, yet our consciences remain dead. The problem with today's Christianity is a sophisticated hypocrisy and excellent pretence which involves showing one's self as righteous in public just to deceive. How to know a pastor; If his preaching points you towards God alone, you are on the right track! If his preaching points you towards Money, flee from him and the love of money. If his preaching points you towards God and Money, then you cannot save two masters. Flee! Today, there's so many things wrong in our world, yet Christians have failed to rise up and be the light to the world. Corruption, stealing, immortality, fornication, cheating, hate, envy, jealousy, wicked acts, gossips, backbiting etc is so much in even in the church. Today you cannot distinguish a worldly person from a Christian because both do the same things but one of them goes for a religious gathering but the other doesn't. Brothers and Sisters let's turn back and go to Jesus Christ and be the light the world desperately needs. |
kings09:The percentage is very low say between 3 - 5% which is almost negligible. |
