CHELSEA MANAGER ANTONIO CONTE HAS REFUSED TO BLAME SUPER EAGLES STAR VICTOR MOSES FOR THE 3-1 DEFEAT TO LONDON RIVALS TOTTENHAM

Tottenham came back from a goal down to defeat Chelsea, and Moses was in action for 81 minutes before he was replaced by Olivier Giroud.

Moses was faulted for being casual with the ball in the build up for Tottenham’s leveller a 30-yard shot which was scored by Christian Eriksen before the halftime break.

Chelsea supporters took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with Moses after the game.

Conte who is credited for Moses’s reemergence in the Chelsea set up after being consistently loaned out, decided not to put the blame of the defeat on his wingback in his post-match conference.

Conte said, “I was a footballer, it can happen where you lose the ball,”

“It’s not the time to put responsibility on a player. We must be in this situation together.”

Conte, however, admitted that the goal from Eriksen going into the break was not good for the confidence of his players.

He said, “The goal at the end of the first half it wasn’t good for us and our confidence. We deserved to go in 2-0 up but football is this and Eriksen scored a fantastic goal.”

”We played good football and should have been in 2 or 3-0. Instead, this goal created a bit of problems in our mind. We lost a bit of confidence.”

Cristiano Ronaldo was approached by several pitch invaders during Portugal’s friendly defeat to the Netherlands, with one attempting to kiss the Real Madrid star.

Portugal entered the match in good form after two goals from Ronaldo sealed a 2-1 win over Egypt last week, but Fernando Santos’ side found themselves three goals down by half-time.

Former Manchester United winger Memphis Depay opened the scoring before ex-Liverpool winger Ryan Babel and current Reds star Virgil van Dijk both found the net.

Joao Cancelo was sent off just past the hour on a miserable night for Portugal, although captain Ronaldo still seemed a big hit with the fans.

The 33-year-old was hugged by one supporter wearing a Real Madrid shirt before another took a selfie then attempted to kiss him on the cheek.

I attended the South East zonal meeting of my party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday at the Government House, Ebonyi State. I had the obligation to explain to my party men and women the current smear campaign and intimation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Below is a verbatim of my presentation:

“Our dear people of PDP, South East, while I thank you for the steadfastness you have shown over the last two to three years of APC governance in Nigeria, it is also an opportunity for me also to express my thanks and gratitude to those of you that tried to reach me and show concern over the smear campaign that you have witnessed concerning me over the past three weeks.

“As my people, I owe you the fact of telling you the truth, which is that I committed no offence. Because the matter is already in court, I do not intend to go into the details, but let me quickly add that very soon you will find out that it is only the politics of 2019.

But what you are going to find out in 2019 is that PDP will be the David that is going to save Nigeria from the hands of Goliath and no amount of intimidation or blackmail will stop it.

“I just want to appeal that we continue on the path of honour. The APC government believes that one can capture power by blackmail and intimidation, which can never happen, and it will never happen. “I want to say clearly that what we are witnessing is unfortunate and an embarrassment to us as a country.

A situation where a government in power can try to use established anti-corruption agencies to harass and intimidate the opposition and when they believe that those agencies are being professional, they decided on their own to use soft tackles, will never be accepted by anybody; not by people outside.

“What we have found over the last few weeks is that a bunch of APC lawyers have assembled themselves and called themselves a panel on the recovery of government property led by a man called Okoi Obla.

As a lawyer common sense tells you that you cannot be a judge in your own case. There is no justice for the cockroach in the court of fowls. That is exactly what that panel is all about. Obla and his co-travellers believe that we are all stupid.

There is no way Nigerians and the international community will watch a panel set up APC, constituted by APC to try PDP people; it would never happen. “I just want to appeal that we continue to pray for this country because the days ahead are worrisome but by the grace of God, we will overcome”.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fired a shot at Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed for urging the electoral commission to withdraw the party’s registration certificate.

The party image maker, Kola Ologbondiyan in a statement on Sunday said the ruling party has been rejected by Nigerians who are only waiting for 2019 to oust the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Our attention has been drawn to a press statement by the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, wherein he demanded that the certificate of registration issued to the PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be withdrawn because the PDP lost in an election and according to him, does not know how to function as an opposition party.

“It is clear now that the APC and its federal government have come to their wits end. All they need to do now is to sit by and watch Nigerians collectively return the PDP to powers and by so doing restore the nation to the path of unity, national cohesion and economic prosperity come 2019.

“We want to alert all Nigerians of a clandestine plot by the APC-led federal government to strangulate the main opposition party and plot the way for the self-succession plan of their candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Our party has been following all the schemes and shenanigans of the APC as 2019 general elections draw nearer.

“The main plank of the plot is to ensure that President Buhari runs as a sole candidate in 2019. To achieve this grand plan, they must work to exterminate all known and perceived political opposition platforms in our country.

“Is it not strange that a party who, in its almost five years of existence, cannot constitute a Board of Trustees (BoT) in line with the provisions of its own constitution will be asking INEC to withdraw the certificate of a party whose all organs are intact and effectively functioning?

“Is it not also laughable that a party, who cannot hold even a non-elective convention, will be calling for the withdrawal of PDP’s certificate?

“It is imperative to tell Alhaji Lai Mohammed and his cohorts in the APC that any masquerade that dances first will eventually have to watch the dance steps of others from the stand,” the statement read.

The Super Eagles have been without a clear first-choice goalkeeper and curious eyes have been on Rohr to see who he will use in the friendly game against Poland.

In his press conference ahead of the game, the Super Eagles boss revealed that the 19-year-old will be between Super Eagles post for the friendly game.

Shehu Abdullahi has been a regular for the Super Eagles and is expected to start in right-back although Tyronne Ebuehi impressed in the second half against Argentina.

Rohr might have also seen enough of Abdullahi and decides to stick with Ebuehi although there are still doubts over his fitness.

Bryan Idowu had a fantastic outing in the left-wing back against Argentina and Rohr is sticking with him although Elderson Echiejile is back in the squad.

In midfield, Ogenyi Onazi is back and is slotting straight in midfield alongside Wilfred Ndidi. With Captain John Mikel Obi not available, Kelechi Iheanacho is to start as the No.10 although Joel Obi has reportedly impressed in training.

Mikel will not feature for the Super Eagles when they take on Poland at the Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw Tonight.

The Tianjin Teda midfielder was a key figure for the Super Eagles during the qualification process for the 2018 FIFA World Cup as he scored two goals.

Mikel who was included in the 28 players invited for the Super Eagles friendlies will reportedly not make it due to work permit constraints.

The 54-year-old also revealed that these will be the last set of friendlies before the final list for the World Cup.

He said, “Our final list will be in 14th of May and no other game will be after March so it’s very important for us and its also important to play without our captain to see how the team will react.”

In the absence of Mikel, Ogenyi Onazi is expected to lead the Super Eagles against Poland.

After the game against Poland, the Super Eagles will take on Serbia on Tuesday, March 27.

A 20-year-old student, Sultan Bello, was on Wednesday remanded in prison custody by a Kano Senior Magistrates’ Court for impersonating the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The accused, who resides at Ja’oji New Court Road Quarters, Kano, is facing three counts of impersonation, cheating and defamation of character.

The Senior Magistrate, Hassan Ahmad, ordered the remand of the accused and adjourned the case until March 26 for summary trial.

The accused had pleaded guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Haziel Ledapwa, told the court that the accused committed the offences on February 27.
Ledapwa said the defendant operated an Instagram page and dubiously posted himself as the Emir of Kano.

“The accused also demanded N1.4m from one Barka Sani; N150,000 from Sadiq Saflan; N50,000 from Sadiq Sani; N50,000 from Aisha Ahmad; N50,000 from Surajo Zakari; and N150,000 from Yahaya, totaling N1.85m.

He also told the court that the accused demanded the money on the pretext that one Hausa film actress, Zubaida Mu’azu, sang a song for him as the Emir of Kano.

“The accused requested the complainants to pay the said amount into the actress’ First Bank account number 3049986447,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene sections 132, 322 and 392 of the penal code.

WHEN ADAM NAWALKA TAKES HIS POLISH SIDE TO FACE THE SUPER EAGLES IN A FRIENDLY ON FRIDAY, MARCH 23, IT WON’T BE THE FIRST TIME THE COACH IS COMING IN CONTACT WITH NIGERIAN PLAYERS.

About 20 years before the friendly game that will be played on Friday in Wroclaw, Nwalka worked in Nigeria for several months where he scouted some of the best players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

According to Michal Zichlarz, a Polish journalist writing for Complete Sports, Nawałka was in March 1999 invited to Nigeria by Anthony Egwuatu, a medical doctor who resides in Poland.

Egwuatu was also a huge football enthusiast and was hugely involved in the game. At that time, he helped in the transfer of several players from the NPFL to Poland.

SCOUTING IN NIGERIA
While living in Krakow, he met Nawałka, a former Poland international and then scout for Wisla Krakow.

Nawałka came to Nigeria with Zbigniew Boniek, a Polish football legend and the present president of the Polish Football Association (PZPN).

During his visit to Nigeria, he paid attention to Nigerian football and monitored the Nigerian league.

“He was a guest of my family and I must say that he was adored by everybody. My mum, till today, asks me, how is Adam?,” Egwuatu is quoted to say in the Complete Sports report.

Then a certain Enyimba player Kelechi Iheanacho– not to be confused for the current Super Eagles and Leicester City star- was tearing up the Nigerian league.

Nawalka read about him in one of the Nigerian newspapers he kept up with daily during his visit and contacted him.

Later in 1999, Iheanacho signed for Wisla Krakow.

“As far as I know, Adam Nawalka found out in one of the newspapers that I was scoring lots of goals. He came to see me in action in Aba. That’s how Wisla Krakow later gave me a proposal to play for them,” Iheanacho said in the Complete Sports report.

Iheanacho still resides in Poland and has since retired.

Nawalka also spotted several players during his visit and has remained a huge fan of Nigerian football since then.

He will be leading his men to face the Super Eagles in preparation for Senegal, one of their Group H opponents.

They will also play South Korea in this international break.

“I’m very happy with my opponents. Both Nigeria and South Korea present a very similar style to our rivals at the World Cup, as well as Chile in June,” Nawalka is quoted to say on the Poland Football Federation official website.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte makes big claim about season
The Italian, who has endured question marks over his future for weeks now, doesn’t know if he will still have a job at Chelsea come the end of the season. But he remains hell bent on building a side for a bright future.

Whether he succeeds with that mission does, however, depend on how deeply affected owner Roman Abramovich becomes in the political war of words now raging between his homeland and his adopted country here.

And Conte emphasised the importance of the Russian – and his money – in his and Chelsea’s future.

“If you want to improve, to become strong, to accelerate this progress, you have to buy great players,” he said. “I can give my opinion to the club, then the club has to decide how much money to invest, the best way to improve the team. I can give my opinion, but I have to stay in my place.”

In the meantime, beating Leicester and going on to win the FA Cup remains a top priority, but Conte claims “it’s not important” in the full scheme of things.

“We have to try to win this competition, but you have to understand what our level is now. We are working very hard, like last season, and we are doing a fantastic job as well.

“If you are able to win something, it’s good. But you have to understand what our level is at this moment.

“Last season every player performed 120 per cent, maybe 130 per cent. Then, you remember, we lost a lot of players, old players, who had created a base for Chelsea for a long time.

After losing to Manchester city at Old Trafford, Manchester United will travel down to Etihad Stadium to face manchester city on Saturday &th April 2018.
