I guess its the school beside doregos. you would earn within that same range (50k) but the working condition is good. and tendency of increase. last i heard ,i was told the teachers were asking a general rise in start up salary for new intakes and dats like yrs back. so they may start you with above 50k . give it a shot though.

Thanks. I see no harm in trying but I am realistic.
i smell "fear". Like artiscally said ..give it a shot. its either they give you the job or they dont. they wont publish in the papers that mr sgwuihgui flunked their interview. besides you may not do well but you would have learnt and know the kind of questions to prepare for next time such thing comes up again. my brother like i have once told a basketball team i raised "loose if you must but don't loose the lesson" . Go give it a shot ,you may eventually get the job.
p.s
try to study waec n neco past questions before the day.

Cover Letter for Teachers

Smithfield Elementary School
Mainland, Lagos

Dear Sir/Ma,
I am interested in applying for a teaching position, on the elementary level, in your school district. As a 20XX graduate of Bleep College, I have student teaching experience on the third and sixth grade level, in both primary and Secondary schools.

At the present time I am teaching at risk preschool children. This position enables me to provide these students with a “head start” in mastering basic skills in numeracy, spelling and identifying objects. I am challenged to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient.I coordinated field trips with classroom instruction.

It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent teacher who will make a positive contribution to your school.

I would welcome an interview and hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,
Signature (hard copy letter)
Nairaland Seun.
nice one. But i think one can add more to a cover letter because a cover letter is like marketing oneself. Permit me to add a few pointers@artiscally.....
you should add achievements from other places of work. e.g taking students for common entrance ,other external exams etc... also state some of the subjects you can take too. There are many other things you can include but lemme step on the brakes .i believe you have already gotten the gist. wink

Yes I am, thank you. Kudos to you and to the rest of team. I've been a silent follower of this thread and following the popular advice, I've been dropping my CV around schools. Still intend to continue on Monday next week, while hoping for a breakthrough. Will give my feedback if there's any development.
Sometimes you need to go beyond just dropping cv. you may look for a way to ensure your cv gets to the right table. dropping at the gate sometimes does not ensure it would get to the right desk .infact it may end up in the trash can . you should ask to see the secretary and if allowed, give cv to the secretary. its a better option than leaving it at d gate. wish you better luck in your searches.

Gd day GoldenDr,Avicky,etc..,I need you all to advice me on this issue.Gt a job @ an English Curriculum school last term & its coupled with alot of stress though am not complaining but the issue is... i gt a mail frm my supervisary head that i wunt be paid August Salary cz av nt been "confimed".then i kept wondering why i wasn't told abt it when i was employed all thru to the end of term.I'v never heard of nor come across such job policy ever in my life.Being a family man,am not finding it funny at all.
U see why feedback is necessaaryhuh Anyway.. Some schools are that way that's why you ought to negotiate evry possible detail u can before u start with them. Questions like do u pay Holidays? Do u give leaves?? How much is take home after tax? Is xtra lesson paid seperately?? How long is probabtion period?? etc ... There are so many questions u can ask..
As for what was done to u. Take it as a lesson. Start job hunting cos this is "transfer period" . U ma y also hunt for home tutorials jobs or part -time lessons while u keeping pushing ur cv to diff schs .. No time to waste at all o. Dominus Vobiscum!!

Tnx bro, i really appreciate ur concern, its nt dat I cant handle it, jst want to knw if deres any new thing i can learn. Tnx once again.
Artiscally has said it all but lemme jus add that u should extend the past questions study to like two or 3yrs (dats 3 diff past questions).
And practice ur micro-teaching..asin rehearse it .pry school pupils are way different from secondary sch students.. Be loud n audible, use gestures and illustrations where necessary.

When u say "handle them", how do u mean?? Do u mean they are noisy or make rude remarks?? State the problem exactly to enable peeps profer possible solutions..
Also u ask "what other teaching method" without stating d particular teaching method u r using.
Do clarify ur request n I am sure peeps here are more dan able to do justice to it.
Well for d teaching methods, one of d methods u can use is using brain teasers..give dem brain teasers on math for the to solve in groups or even take home..n they will hav something to look forward to in ur class..also u may try some funny maths tricks jus to build their interest..u can get lots of videos on those from you tube. There are so many methods u can use to build their interest.. But most importantly I want to believe your school dint schedule maths for afternoon in their time-table.. Maths is best early morn when their brains are cool n relaxed.
Sorry I see u later stated that they talk while you are teaching. For that as a new teacher , ur first impression matters. Give them ur rules like someone earlier said. N put ur foot down when someone disturbs ur class ,u can ask d person to stand up n come stand near u or something...

The Labour market is very competitive. Every interview should be like you are being interviewed for a super lucrative job.
Bring your A game, do not give room for errors and most importantly prepare.
Have a very good day.

My first interview was at Ogun, I goofed seriously. I did not divide the board into two, no date, no topic and to top it I was not talking to my students (interviewers). They told me they way I was teaching I could only teach University undergraduates.
After, the interview I was not selected as usual "we would get back to you" was the words the panel used.

Second interview, Kai! That when I knew unemployement is real and my 180k for a start disappeared. See crowd. Simple questions but the major thing they were looking at was those that could prepare lessons note which one of the invigilator told us............ I messed up. I no bother go back to the school, as I reach house na im I carry my mama lesson note begin dey study as if na final year exams I wan write.

Third interview, I knew I was going to kill them, I passed the test, lesson note but goofed again at micro teaching, why? I was not vast with the topic I selected (respiration) but this time I was confident, ruled the board, wrote the date and topic, but did not make the list.

Fourth interview, I prepared well, corrected all my mistakes. Interview started with waec past questions, I did not prepare for it at all, dem no call me- meaning I failed.

Note:I did not give up, I fell, I dusted myself up and tried again and in the process learnt and after each interview, I went back to look at my mistakes

Finally, I was coming from one of those frustrating interviews where they would drill you like say them wan pay you 1m, with two different panels. I just decided to log on to Nairaland and saw one advert and I applied by calling the number. I was asked to come to the school immediately. Right there and there I was given a micro teaching, na vexation I use finish the topic with confidence, this time mistakes made were corrected. The interviewer was shocked and was amazed that I did not teach while serving, how come I was able to perform exceptionally well? Says the interviewer, I answered, "I try to be the best in anything I want to do". He stared at me, looked at my resume and ask, if I can write a lesson plan, I replied, no sir. He fired another question in my discipline, I just laugh for my mind, the same question they asked in the just concluded waec examination, I aced it. As usual, the question applicants do not like came up.
Interviewer: How much do you intend to earn?
Me: sir, let me think. Am I working at present? No, do I need the job yes, why? I do not have any work experience and am tired of staying at home. All of these were questions running in my head. He told me, they were offering 30k........ I grabbed it with both hands.
After a year, I was at Ipaja with accomodation 50k. I got another offer at Owode!!!! I picked the former. Less I forget, lesson dey involve o, I take home say between 75-80, just 8.00pm-4.00pm with accommodation, no traffic, not like that my Banker friend that does 5.00am-10.00pm. There is money in teaching, especially if you know your onions well.

Well said dear.. Also facing some challenges too bout teaching. I read education but don't av passion for teaching. I had to accept my admission back then hoping I will change later... Just wished I had changed. I even picked a course I don't really have interest in cos my dad kinda discouraged me from the one I really have passion for. But I'm sure God will see me tru
Nigerians always lean towards religion n supernatural being when tins go awkward. My dear ur destiny is in ur own hands ,,u can re-write ur own story..throw away dat feeling of hopelessness. forget what parents made u do or not do..
There was a time I wanted to apply for a supervisor job somewhere n my own dad was like "did u study management?" U can't get a job there o.. I remember replying him saying "dis is naija, any graduate can work in any industry or field, depending ... Anyway to cut long story short ,I got the job .infact I was given two weeks training with pay n lunch..before I fully started.. Dat was yrs ago. now its a diff story tho. So don't give up dear.. Jus pull urself together n I am telling u with all conviction "U CAN RE-WRITE YOUR STORY".

I got my first ever regret message some days ago, actually it wasn't a message it was communicated to me verbally after a written test which I shouldn't have even failed on a very good day (*must have been a not too good day sha for me and the fact that that was my first ever JOB test*).
though am yet to do the compulsory NYSC but have been applying to schools and I got this positive response from a school to come for an interview, *still wondering what attracted them to my CV sha*, I guess God just favoured me (One of the Best Schools In Nigeria, L J). Travelled down to the place for the interview but it was quite unfortunate I didn't make it past the test stage.

Anyway, I know there better days ahead.
For you reading this, don't give up on your Dreams, you will see its reality ONE day.

And a big thanks to all the Ogas in this thread we appreciate your Priceless contributions.
Thumbs up..keep trying u will get there

I know the type of people who fight online, they're the broke & poor people, can someone who works for 10 hours per day, comes home feeling tired, feels sleepy, but choose to come online to fight unknown people ?? Please, guy go find a job & be useful to your society, don't blame your country, I live in America the land of opportunities but I do bust my ass just to put food on my table.
