KarlTom: Let me use TRANSCORP as an example.
Proposed Div: ₦0.10 Share price: ₦17.00 Units held: 500,000 Value: ₦8,500,000 Expected Div: ₦50,000 (₦45,000 after WHT)
If I sell all my holdings at ₦18 that's ₦9,000,000 (₦8,820,000 after deductions at 2%) If I am to reenter at say ₦16, I will be able to get 500,000 units for ₦8,160,000 (2% charges)
Profit Dividend is ₦660,000
Caveat: This is purely based on LUCK and price fluctuations. This strategy is feasible. If the stock did not drop you'll look for another target to enter |

Zagee: Your only worry should be, will it dip further after dividend, and do I have the resource to add to my position?.
Whereas, table manners is being observed across one table, because of an Isrealite journey. Even the numbers to start the journey has not turned up. So, na double wahala be that oo. Most times dips come after dividend payouts Na to dey look am |

ositadima1:
I am not a banker, but my argument is based on common sense and knowledge from general engineering and personal safety practices. Why do people keep a spare tire in good condition and in their car at all times? Why do they keep pressure on the gauge for their fire extinguisher? Why do large contracting firms require a contractor to have sufficient backup capital before taking on a project? Why do banks request collateral before issuing loans? The list goes on.
The core point is that having a adequate reserve or buffer is a fundamental risk management practice across various industries. It's not about keeping the funds in a literal "safe" or box, but rather maintaining a pool of capital that can be accessed if needed, without directly tying it to current operations or growth initiatives.
In the case of banks, most of the capital they raise will likely not contribute to their growth in the short term. However, it will indirectly support the bank's stability and resilience, which can then help attract investors over the long run. The reserve capital serves as a crucial safety net, even if it is not being actively deployed for immediate business expansion.
The analogy to personal safety practices, like keeping a spare tire, highlights how reserve capital functions - it's not meant to be consumed for regular use, but is there as a contingency measure to draw upon if circumstances require it. Maintaining an appropriate level of buffer capital, while also utilizing funds for growth, is the balanced approach that banks need to strike. leave story |

maishai: Oga mi, its better you follow the money, these people have seen the blue print of Nigeria and positioned themselves long ago, once u get the drift it's better you follow the wave A new tarrig was just approved to make electricity a more lucrative, just watch how 95% of Nigerians will be moved into band A consumers..... Very true. Most times In Nigeria we test how the masses accepts new change and this is the best way to introduce change because those that were affected are the rich neighborhoods that have up to 20hrs of light, they'll not complain but soon the suburbans will start having such hours and enter the category. This is a beginning of a good business for the players in the power sectors and the beginning of more stable power in the nation. But this development comes with a price which ordinary consumers must cough out. |
