President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari was one of the military men who masterminded a military coup in December 1983.

Democratically elected President Shehu Shagari was overthrown in the coup.It should be recalled that Gen. Buhari was the General Officer Commanding (GOC),Third Armored Division of Jos at the time of the coup.

Following the coup, General Tunde Idiagbon was made the Chief of General Staff.Buhari at his first press conference in 1984 as Head of State said a the coup was carried out because of total negligence of 1979 Constitution by the then civilian government and its corrupt practices. Gen. Buhari ruled Nigeria from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985.

Gov. of Ekiti state Fayose yesterday held a peace talk in Ado Ekiti with many of his House of Assembly members so that they will allow him rule peacefully.


In attendance were mainly PDP lawmakers while the 19 APC lawmakers planning to impeach him were not in attendance over insecurity and possible attack.Omirin and his cohorts plotting the governor's impeachment were not in attendance.

According to a twitter user who visited a patient today's morning at Orile Agege General Hospital,she was disappointed with the state of things in the hospital.

   She said there have been no light and nursery bed in the hospital.To worsen the situation,the waste bins have been open for sometime in a hospital where cleanliness is meant to be one of the most important things so as to prevent nosocomial infections ie infections patients acquire while in a hospital.

Meet The 5 Former Nigerian Presidents Who Died In Office.

5 of the presidents Nigeria has ever had died in office.Tafawa Balewa,Aguiyi Ironsi and Murtala Mohammed were murdered while Sani Abacha died surprisingly without any known ailment.Musa Yaradua died of health issues which people say were kidney and heart pathologies.The longest to stay in office among the dead leaders was Tafawa Balewa, who ruled for 6 years before he was killed in a military coup.The shortest was Aguiyi Ironsi who ruled for only a few months before his assassination.

Below are the five leaders and how they died while in office.

1. Tafawa Balewa (Prime Minister from 1960-1966)

He was born in 1912 and murdered in 1966.Appointed Nigerian Federation Prime Minister in 1957 and continued as Prime Minister after independence in 1960 till 1966.As a result of a military coup spearheaded by Major Kaduna Nzeogwu,he was assassinated on January 15, 1966.That was the first military coup to be recorded in the history of Nigeria.

2. Major General Aguiyi-Ironsi :

He was born on 3 March 1924 and assassinated on 29 July 1966.As a result of the problem which occurred when Tafawa Balewa was murdered,he hijacked power and became the first ever head of state to reap the effects of a military coup in Nigeria.However,his administration was short-lived as he was killed on 16 January 1966 by a cohort of Northern military officers who ganged up against him.They were strongly against him in what they described as tribalistic way of administration.

3. General Murtala Mohammed :

Born on on November 8, 1938 and murdered on February 13, 1976,he became head of state in July 1975.While the then head of state General Gowon was at an Organization of African Unity (OAU) summit in Kampala, Uganda,Murtala Mohammed seized power before he could come back from Uganda.Following an abortive military coup that transpired on February 13,1976, he was murdered alongside his aide-
de-camp, Lieutenant Akintunde Akinsehinwa.The coup was spearheaded by Lt. Col Buka Suka Dimka.Murtala Mohammed died at a young age of 37.

4. General Sani Abacha:

He ruled Nigeria from 1993 to 1998.He was known for his tyrannical and no nonsense nature.Till date,the exact cause of his death is not well understood but many people said he died of food poisoning by his enemies who lobbied his Indian girl friends to poison his food.Sources said he was having fun with two Indian prostitutes who poisoned him around 4:30am before he finally gave up around 6:30am.

However, al-Mustapha, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of
General Sani Abacha said he died after a sickness which started when he shook hands with one of the security officials who accompanied President Arafat of Palestine to Nigeria.It was a surprised news to the masses when the news of his death was disclosed.

5. Umar Musa Yar’Adua :

A former governor who died on 5 May 2010 at Aso Rock Presidential Villa.His tenure was fraught with continuous rumours of being unwell.After winning 21 April 2007 election which the then outgoing President Olusegun Obasanjo campaigned for him,he left Nigeria on 23 November 2009 for Saudi Arabia due to a medical challenge attributed to pericarditis,a disease condition where there is inflammation of the membrane covering the heart.He however returned to Nigeria on 24 February 2010 but rarely made public appearances.He later died on 5 May,2010.

Pete Edochie

Nollywood actor Pete Edochie
is a household name in Nigeria.Born on 7 March 1947,the seasoned and eloquent actor broke into Nollywood in the 1980s when he starred as Okonkwo in an NTA movie which was all about the literal work of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall
Apart.He was born in a catholic family in the Igbo tribe of Nigeria.Having worked as a junior assistant in a radio broadcasting station in 1967,he was later promoted to the Director.He has so many other appointments to his name.His fame in the Nigeria movie industry keeps rising because of his ability to interpret several roles with accuracy.At one time in his career 2005 to be precise, the Actors' Guild of Nigeria placed Pete Edochie, Ramsey Noah, Richard Mofe Damijo , Stella Damasus,Genevieve Nnaji,Chinwe Okeke Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Nkem Owoh and  Aboderin  on a one-year ban from acting due the exorbitant prices they charge producers before featuring in movies.However,the ban has been lifted.

  He has featured in several movies such as Never End, Greatest Harvest, Living with Death, The Price of Love: Life Is Beautiful , Dogs Meeting, The Staff of Odo, Love & Politics, Sacred Tradition, Billionaires Club, Holy Ghost Fire, Monkey chop banana, Holy Cross, Simple Baby, Fair Game, Passage of Kings and many others.

His son Yul Edochie is currently making waves in Nollywood.

Nkem Owoh

Popularly known as Osuofia,Nkem Owoh was born in Udi, Enugu,Nigeria in 1962.After his primary and secondary educations,he went to University of Ilorin where he studied engineering.

  His acting started in his university days where he was involved in many film/television productions.Despite his increasing age,the comic actor looks younger than his age.He has featured in many Nollywood movies and have won several awards.He won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2008.He has also singing skills with many albums to his name.You can not talk about comedy in Nollywood without mentioning Nkem Owoh's name.
  Some of the movies he starred are in are Osuofia in London,The
Master, Big Man...Big Trouble, Anunuebe ejimfor, America Visa, Long John, King of the Forest, Police Officer, Osuofia in London, Mr. Trouble, Bus Driver, De prof, Lion Finger, Johnbull & Rosekate and many others.

    In 2007,he was arrested in Amsterdam,Netherlands on a suspicion of lottery fraud and immigration law violation.He was arrested alongside 110 other people by the police while performing at a music show as a part of a 7-month "Operation Apollo" by the Dutch police.He was however released later.

Olu Jacobs

Olu Jacob was born on 11 July, 1942 in Abeokuta, Ogun State,Nigeria.He attended Holy Trinity School,Kano and later travelled to London to study at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts,England.He is married to Nollywood actress Joke Silva and are blessed with 6 children.

Before venturing into Nollywood,he featured in many international films and TV series in Britain such as The Tomorrow People, Till Death Us Do Part,
The Goodies,The Venturers, Barlow at Large,Secret of the Lost Legend and The Dogs of
War.He has featured in more than 160 Nollywood movies such as Adesuwa,Eyes of the God and several others

In 2007 he won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and in 2013 Nollywood Merit Award for outstanding achievements in

An overhead pedestrian pillar bridge in Kano yesterday fell and killed 3 people.

Before people could get over the tragedy,the second pillar of the bridge collapsed at about 8:30am today.However,no life was lost.

Nigerians to be executed for drug trafficking in Indonesia.

4 Nigerians will be executed in Indonesia in less than 72hours from now after being found guilty of drug trafficking.

According to Utomo Karim,the lawyer of one of the convicts Raheem Agbaje Salami,he has already informed the victim of the development.Indonesian authorities have prepared 4 coffins for them,with RIP and names of the convicts written on them ahead of the execution.
