A police inspector, who just left a commercial bank in Idimu area of Lagos State was attacked and robbed by a three-man gang, which came on a motorcycle, shot him on the jaw and made away with his money.

While they were escaping the scene, police patrol team, attached to the Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Intelligence Unit, engaged the robbers in a shootout.

Two of the robbers were reportedly killed during the exchange, while a surviving member of the gang, identified as Gafaru Ismail, was arrested.

Punch have it that the injured police inspector, who was not in uniform at the time of the attack, was reportedly rushed to a general hospital in the area, while the slain robbers and the suspect were taken to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja.

A resident, who gave his name only as Ramoni, said the robbers targeted people leaving banking premises, adding that the inspector was the second victim.

He said, “The incident happened around 11.45am. All of us suddenly heard gunshots down the road and we knew it was a robbery operation. Everyone was confused. The robbers, who came on a motorcycle, had first robbed a bank customer, before waylaying the inspector.

“While they were robbing him, they sensed that he had a weapon and quickly shot at his jaw. They collected his money and were leaving when they were cornered by a police patrol team.

“The patrol team engaged the robbers and killed two of them. They dragged their corpses into the van. The third suspect also sustained injuries, but he was arrested. It was after the arrest that most of us went out to see what was happening. The shootings were intense.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.

She said, “On sighting the operatives, the robbers opened fire and the team responded during which two of the robbers were hit by bullets.“They were confirmed dead in a hospital. The case has been transferred to SARS for further investigation.

“The suspect, Ismail, has been on the wanted list of the command for cases of armed robbery. Items recovered from the gang were two pistols, four live ammunition and one motorcycle.”

A lot of Ijaws have started relocating to the South South from Lagos and Ogun state for fear of being attacked after the alleged ultimatum given to them by the Reformed Odua Peoples Congress, ROPC.

The ultimatum was allegedly given to the Ijaws due to attacks by unknown gunmen in parts of Lagos and Ogun states.
Spokesperson of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Eric Omare, who confirmed the developments to Vanguard said:

"At as Sunday morning (yesterday), information at our disposal indicates that some Ijaw people resident in Lagos and Ogun states, for fear of attack, are already relocating from their places of residence to the South-South.”

However, the IYC, however, said that the ROPC members and the leaders of the Yoruba nation should allow the police do their jobs by apprehending criminals responsible for the Ogun and Lagos attacks.

In regards to the situation at Kaiama and the fact that people are relocating due to the fear of the Adaka Boro Avengers, Omare said:

“We call on residents of Kaiama town to be calm and go about their normal activities. There is no plan by the Ijaw people to declare a republic and the threat by Adaka Boro Avengers should be disregarded.

“We wish to warn groups and individuals not to further expose Ijaw and Niger Delta communities to unnecessary tension and danger. They should not abuse modern means of information technology to the detriment of our communities by issuing unnecessary threats and ultimatums.

“We call on security agencies to stop forthwith the unnecessary threats and attacks on Ijaw and other Niger Delta communities because of threats by faceless groups. They should check issues of security with the leadership of Ijaw nation instead of threatening or attacking innocent communities and people,” he added.

An Appeal Court in Abuja has ordered that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State remain on seat pending the determination of suit challenging his earlier removal from office.

A Federal High Court had on June 27 nullified Mr. Ikpeazu’s election after finding him guilty of tax offenses. It also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to issue Samson Ogah, who took the Governor to court a certificate of return.

Barely 24 hours after the Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris accused his predecessor, IGP Solomon Arase (rtd) of moving away 24 Police vehicles including the official IGP Staff Car, which is armoured plated and bullet proof, and the spare staff car, both of which are BMW’s, have all been found.

Vanguard report that the cars were sent to Auto Computers located in the Jabi district of Abuja and that the spare BMW car has been completed and repainted. The spare staff car was said to have been having engine problems for the last five years before the last administration sent it for repairs.

A source at Auto Computer also told Vanguard that the spare car was delivered to the Police headquarters on Sunday afternoon after completion of repairs and that officials of the company would visit the Acting IGP to demand for payment of the job done.

As for the armoured plated Staff Car, Vanguard was told that because of the high technology embedded in the car, the company will need more time to fix the identified problems of the car as some of the needed parts will be imported.

A male suicide bomber was today apprehended by troops of 101 Battalion, 7 Division Garrison on foot patrol along with some elements of Civilian JTF in Sabon Gari Jidari.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel SK Usman released a press statement which reads,

Today, troops of 101 Battalion, 7 Division Garrison on foot patrol along with some elements of Civilian JTF, intercepted a suspected male suicide bomber at Sabon Gari Jidari.

The suspect carrying primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) concealed in a blue stabilizer casing gave his name as Yusuf Tasiu. He was dispossessed of the explosives while the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Devices expert safely detonated it. The suicide bomber is currently being interrogated.

In a related development, Vigilante group at Njidari village, South East of Damboa, conducted clearance operations against suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideout close to Ngwalimeri village, east of Bale in Borno State.

The vigilante destroyed the camp and recovered 1 AK-47 rifle with registration number 565203224 with locally fabricated 5 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunitions and a pair of military uniform. The leader of the vigilante handed over same to the Headquarters of 25 Task Force Brigade in Damboa.

The APC members in South West on Thursday 14th July expressed how scandalized and traumatized they felt about Dino Melaye attack on Remi Tinubu, regarding the fact they're in the same party with him.

In a contained statement signed by the Zonal National Secretary, South West, Mr. Ayo Afolabi. “We are surprised that any person elected into the Nigerian Senate could remind us of the often repeated lyrics “Vagabond in Power” by Fela Anikulapo Kuti at the Berlin festival performance.

"We wonder if Dino thought Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu was in the class of his slave ladies. Dino we know was rejected in 2011 by his constituency at the polls, only for him to clandestinely contest the Senate seat riding on the popularity of the All Progressives Congress to climb to the hallowed chambers of the Senate. But the leopard never sheds its skin. Melaye is nothing but a disgrace to the Nigerian Senate."

The party called on the Senator to publicly withdraw his tantrums and apologize not only to Mrs. Tinubu but also to the entire Tinubu Family, Womanhood and the APC in the South West Zone.

"We invite all our women society organizations to see this as a fight against the denigration of the Nigerian woman," the party stated.

The party called on the National leadership and indeed the national Chairman of our Great Party, His Excellency Chief John Odigie Oyegun, to call the disgrace of a person in Senator Melaye, a wolf in a sheep’s skin to order.

"From reports of his performance and activities in the Senate, this incident is typical of Dino’s record. We wonder if Dino will not, one of these days, carry out his threat of beating up a Senate colleague."

The First African American Miss Alabama, Kalyn Chapman James, has been thrown into backlash and is on administrative leave for her comment on Facebook regarding the recent Dallas shooting.

She said, While holding back tears, “I’m dealing with a bit of guilt because I don’t feel sad for the officer that lost their lives and I know that’s not my heart. I value human life and I want to feel sad for them but I can’t help but feeling like the shooter was a martyr.”

Recall that a gunman who opened fire in Dallas last week, killed five police officers and wounding seven others was caught in a parking garage and eventually killed by a police explosive detonation robot.

She continued,

“I know it’s not the right way to feel, because nobody deserves to lose their lives and I know those police officers have families and people who love and they didn’t deserve to die. But I’m so torn up about seeing these young Black men being gunned down in our community. I can’t help but feel…I wasn’t surprised what the shooter did to those cops.”

The station however denounced her statement and officials there are currently evaluating and will further determine its relationship with James and “will determine additional course of actions based on its thorough review of the matter,” the station said.

An oil bunkery thief, Chemede Anre alongside his members has been arrested by the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ikeja in an attempt to move 86 drums of petrol, suspected to have been siphoned from vandalised pipelines of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to Benin Republic

The 19-year-old fisherman who said his mother involved him into the business was paraded on Wednesday along with five other accomplices – Ibrahim Kwenu, 23; Savig Videjon, 20; Celestine Soru, 20; Simon Posu, 22, and 21-year-old Lekan Wesu.

According to him, “I am a fisherman, but it has been very difficult to catch fish in the sea these days because of drought. When it became difficult to take care of my family, my mother introduced me to Savie.

“He (Savie) asked me to help him transport the fuel from Badagry to Asipa in Seme. I invited five other fishermen to carry out the job and he promised to give us N4,000 each after the deal. We were on the way to deliver the product to him when we were arrested. I know what I did was wrong and I regret my action. It was hunger that forced me into it.”

The other suspects equally blamed drought for their involvement in the act.

Videjon explained that his friend, Kwenu, connected him with Anre, saying he was not aware of the nature of the deal until the boat took off.

Kwenu said, “I am married with two children. Chemede (Anre) informed me that there was a trip that would fetch us money and since I had been idle, I agreed to go. I also invited Videjon. It was when the boat was about leaving the shore that I knew it was fuel we wanted to transport.”

Kwenu was, however, silent when asked why he did not back out from the trip when he discovered what was involved.

However, the NSCDC Commandant in Lagos State, Tajudeen Balogun, said their surveillance led to their capture. Also mentioning that the main masterminds will be arrested as well

“Our marine unit has been on surveillance in the Badagry area for some time. The officers recovered 86 drums of 250 litres each filled with petrol, totalling 21,250 litres. Ten empty drums and one wooden boat were also recovered from the suspects.

“Investigation revealed that the product was being transported to the Republic of Benin. We plan to arrest their mastermind so that we can curb this economic sabotage,” he said.

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose has specifically asked the wife of the president, Mrs. Aisha Buhari to wait till the end of his tenure which is on 18th of October 2018 before going ahead with the defamation of her alleged crime with Halliburton in the US.

Fayose in a letter by his counsel, Mike Ozekhome, a copy of which was made available to reporters in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday said he enjoys constitutional immunity from civil and criminal proceedings during the period he occupies the office of the governor.

The governor maintained in the letter that the statement he made regarding the alleged involvement of Mrs. Buhari in the Halliburton scandal was “correct and justified in law, having regards to a court judgment convicting one Mr. William Jefferson of bribery in the case.”

Counsel to Mrs. Buhari, Mary Ekpere & Co, had written a letter to Fayose dated June 22, 2016, demanding a retraction of the governor’s statement that her client was involved in the Halliburton scandal, threatening a legal action if the retraction is not made within five days.

However, Ozekhome said the statement of Governor Fayose was correct and justified, having been factually premised on an existing court judgment.

The letter reads; “Our client has referred to us your letter dated 22nd June, 2016, on alleged defamation of the character of your client , Her Excellency, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, with firm instructions to reply to and reject same in its entirety.

“Our client states and reaffirms categorically that the statement he made as regards the involvement of Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Buhari, in the Halliburton scandal, is correct and justified in law; having regards to a court judgement convicting one Mr. William Jefferson for bribery in the Halliburton case.

“Therein, the name of the President’s wife featured conspicuously. At page 22 of the said judgment delivered by the United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division, USA, in criminal No 1: 07CR209, the said Mr. William Jefferson was sentenced at 9:00am on November 13, 2009, by Mark D, Lytle. Your client, Mrs. Aisha Buhari was specifically mentioned in the judgment.

From where I stand, it seems you’re the only one in your cabinet fighting corruption while your praise singers are busy washing you all over town trying to convince us that you’re a good man.

I, CharlyBoy, know that you are a “good” man: someone who loves the country, a patriot with a high sense of morals perhaps. But na that one we go chop? Is that all that is needed to fix the rot of over 40yrs.?

I don’t think so!

To a great degree, Nigeria has become a terribly dysfunctional society.

I didn’t vote in the last elections because I just tire with the kalokalo leadership so far. Even when a lot of people wanted change, I wondered what manner of change could come when in our history we never really struggled for anything.

Before you sat on that chair, I proclaimed that Nigeria would only survive under a benevolent dictator; one with lots of selfless love for the country and is willing to lay down his life, one who would deal mercilessly with all those who have ruined our land.

A lot of people thought I was talking about you.

From Boko Haram to Niger Delta Avengers. MASSOB, OPC, to Biafran Avengers, name it, the list is endles.

Mr President Sir, you ought to, as a matter of urgency, review your approach to handling issues because, sometimes diplomacy works better. Excessive force will only breed more discontentment. Take it from me.

Your mark of fair play must cut across board, you must not leave room for us to second-guess your intentions biko, and you must at all times convey clarity of purpose.

It is not possible (or I should say it is unbelievable) that you can’t see that we are swimming in the river of chaos.

It is funny because, those who feel insulated and protected by the State will discover that they are mere sitting ducks!

Just because say boys dey vex!

Putting Nigeria together will take a lot more than childish, nonsensical propaganda.

It will take more than prayers, more than just being a good guy.

Being good is important but not as important as being a no-nonsense ass-kicker; person wey no send, because many things don scatter.

I don’t care if you’re trying to convert all of us to Islam, I don’t care if everyone in your cabinet is your in-law, brother, sister, tribesman, cook, steward or even your MaiGuard.

On behalf of all the frustrated youths in this country, all we need is a leader who can fix things, not the one that comes with excuses.

A leader who is not afraid to admit that he has no clue to certain matters but willing to learn spot on and hands on.

A leader who can’t be comfortable with praise singers.

A leader who is troubled by the cry of poverty-ridden Nigerians.

A leader who can raise our hope once again in our battered country.

A leader who can make us start believing in our Nigeria again.
