SportsBREAKING NEWS: Cristiano Ronaldo Will Miss His Reunion With Old Foe Lionel Messi by vanida6(op): 2:12pm On Oct 22, 2020
Cristiano Ronaldo will miss his reunion with old foe Lionel Messi in the Champions League as latest tests show Juventus star STILL has coronavirus despite showing no symptoms.

Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Juventus' Champions League game against Barcelonanext week after returning another positive coronavirus test.

The Portuguese superstar picked up the virus last week - ruling him out of action for Portugal in the Nations League and forcing him into a period of quarantine and ramping up fears that he would miss the club's huge clash against the LaLiga side.

But the 35-year-old has tested positive yet again, according to Spanish outlet Marca, ruling out a mouthwatering reunion with his old rival Lionel Messi.

*A report from Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha claims Ronaldo's test gave a very low viral load despite returning positive, with Juventus not giving up hope completely of their talisman featuring in the game.

It claims that the club will ask UEFA for permission to test Ronaldo 48 hours before the game on October 28. It will be up to the European football body to decide whether or not to allow such a request to go ahead.

Ronaldo and Messi, who have battled for the honour of world's best player for over a decade, have not faced each other in the Champions League since the semi-final between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the 2011-12 season.

The news of a second test on Thursday didn't appear to phase the five-time Ballon D'or winner, as he posted a selfie of himself on Instagram sitting at his dinner table with the caption: 'Thursday style!'

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star has been showing off pictures of himself keeping fit at home as he battles to fight off the virus after his initial test on international duty.

Unable to feature at all for Juventus, or use the club's facilities at their training ground, Ronaldo has been keeping busy in his home gym to ensure he stays fit for their upcoming games, but he will have to stay away for a while longer after his latest set-back.

He appeared in high spirits as he shared a clip on his Instagram page where he is seen dancing and singing while cycling on the gym bike, sporting an eye-catching new buzzcut.

Ronaldo will be keeping himself separated from his family members during his time at home in quarantine, with the rest of his loved ones on a different floor, and the forward is able to maintain his fitness levels by using an outdoor gym.

There had been claims from Italy's sports minister, Vincenzo Spadafora, that Ronaldo may have broken coronavirusprotocols by flying back to Italy from Portugal.

However, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner quickly quashed that claim after taking to Instagram Live, claiming he complied with all necessary procedures.

The 35-year-old said on Instagram: 'I'm always at home, now I'm sunbathing, also to let the days pass. I'm respecting the protocol, I did not break it, as has been said: It's a lie.

'I returned from Portugal because my team and I made sure to comply with all the procedures. I returned to Italy by air ambulance and I have had no contact with anyone, even in Turin.

Politics#lekki Massacre: ‘buhari’s Government Worst Civil Regime In Nigeria’s History’. by vanida6(op): 9:07am On Oct 22, 2020
The Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, Thursday condemned the shooting and killings of #ENDSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate, on Tuesday by soldiers.

Expressing grievance, Olusegun Bamgbose, Esq, National Coordinator, opined that President Mmuhammadu Buhari’s government was the worst civil regime in the history of Nigeria.

Below is the full statement:

“It’s becoming very clearer to many concerned Nigerians, that Buhari’s government is a colossal failure. The APC has failed woefully, to satisfactorily address the earnings of the masses.

The EndSARS protests have been on for all most a month, and the President of the nation has not deemed it noble and necessary, to address his fellow citizens.

This is pitiable and pathetic. It won’t be out of place to state that Buhari’s government could rank as the worst civilian regime in Nigeria’s history.

How could one explain the horror and the massacre of harmless Nigerians at Lekki. Will the Commander-In-Chief claim ignorance, as to the order to shoot the protesters? It’s really a pity.

*Let me however assure Buhari that he should get prepared to face the wrath of grieving Nigerians.

We will bury our dead, but we won’t bury the hatchet. This regime has taken Nigerians for a ride for so long, and they should get prepared to face the dire consequences of this dastardly act.

No force of gun can put an end to lawful agitation.

Late General Abacha tried it, but met his waterloo. No one takes Nigeria for granted and go scot free.

It’s a matter of time, Nigerians will show the stuff they are made up. When cobwebs unite, it can tie up a tiger.”

PoliticsSoun Says He Didn't Reject Seyi Makinde's Offer To Renovate The Palace by vanida6(op): 6:39am On Oct 22, 2020
By Adeola Badru

The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, has denied the content of a letter purportedly authorised by him, which rejected the financial contribution of the Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State in the planned renovation of the monarch’s palace vandalised by hoodlums during the #EndSARS protest on October 10.

The Soun, who spoke with the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Taiwo Adisa, said that he did not authorise the said letter in circulation.

Adisa disclosed to Governor’s Office correspondents, quoting the monarch: “If your boss sees any such letter, he should ignore it, because I didn’t ask anyone to write such a letter.”

“The Soun said that he never authorised anyone to issue a letter on his behalf and that if any such letter surfaces, some persons must have forged his signature.”

“The Soun said he wholeheartedly welcomes the intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde in the plan to fix the palace and all the damaged items.”

The purported letter claimed the monarch said the damages incurred during the unfortunate incident would be taken care of by a coordinated community effort of Ogbomoso sons and daughters.

The letter further added that a N10m released by the governor would be added to the contributions of his subjects, while it allegedly quoted the monarch saying there was no need to disburse the balance of the sum of N90m.

Sports'loyalty Is Hard To Come By' - Mesut Ozil Reacts To Arsenal PL Squad Snub. by vanida6(op):
'Loyalty is hard to come by' - Ozil reacts after being dropped from Arsenal's 25-man Premier League squad.

The ex-Germany international has promised to keep fighting for a place in Mikel Arteta's team despite being left out of his manager's top-flight plans,

Mesut Ozil has reacted after being axed from Arsenal's 25-man Premier League squad, claiming "loyalty is hard to come by".

Mikel Arteta left the German out of his official squad for the 2020-21 top-flight season on Tuesday, having kept him on the sidelines since the Gunners' return to action post-lockdown back in June.

That decision has proven to be the last straw for the midfielder, who has posted a message to his followers on social media outlining his disappointment.

*"This is a difficult message to write to the Arsenal fans that I've played for over the past few years. I'm really deeply disappointed by the fact that I have not been registered for the Premier League season for the time being," Ozil said on Twitter and Instagram.

"Upon signing my new contract in 2018, I pledged my loyalty and allegiance to the club that I love, Arsenal, and it saddens me that this has not been reciprocated. As I have just found out, loyalty is hard to come by nowadays.

"I've always tried to remain positive from week to week that there's maybe a chance to get back in the squad soon again. That's why I kept silent so far.

〽️⚽️ #M1Ö #YaGunnersYa pic.twitter.com/hF7abGklOT— Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) October 21, 2020

"Before the coronavirus break, I was really happy with the development under our new coach, Mikel Arteta - we've been on a positive way and I would say my performances were on a really good level.

"But then, things changed, again, and I was no longer allowed to play football for Arsenal. What else can I say? London still feels like home, I still have many good friends in this team, and I still feel a strong connection with fans of this club.

"No matter what, I will keep fighting for my chance and not let my eighth season at Arsenal end like this. I can promise you that this hard decision won't change anything in my mindset - I will continue to train as best as I can and wherever possible use my voice against inhumanity and for justice."

Ozil hasn't played for Arsenal since March, having initially been restored to the starting XI after Arteta was drafted in to replace Unai Emery at Emirates Stadium over the Christmas period.

He was, however, a notable absentee when the Gunners resumed their 2020-21 campaign following the coronavirus-enforced break and has also been exiled at the start of the new season, with Ozil also left out of the club's Europa League selection.

The 32-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract with the club, made headlines earlier in October following his announcement that he would pay Gunnersaurus' wages after the Gunners' mascot was reportedly made redundant.

PoliticsMoney Laundering: Court Gives Ndume 21 Days To Produce Maina. by vanida6(op): 4:03pm On Oct 19, 2020
…..Orji Kalu, Nyame, Dariye pressured me to stand surety for him, Ndume laments

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri, Abuja

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, gave Senator Ali Ndume who is representing Borno South, 21 days, to produce the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, who has repeatedly failed to appear for continuation of his trial on money laundering charges.

The former pension boss is facing a 12-count criminal charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against him and a firm, Common Input Properties & Investment Limited.

Maina spent over seven months on remand at the Kuje Correctional Center before the court released on bail after Senator Ndume agreed to stand surety for him.

EFCC alleged that he used account of the firm and laundered funds to the tune of about N2billion, part of which he used to acquire landed properties in Abuja.

EFCC has already opened its case and called witnesses that included bankers and Maina’s relatives, who testified and tendered exhibits in evidence before the court.

However, the Defendant had since September 29, failed to appear in court for his trial, even as the prosecution alleged that he has jumped bail.

*Senator Ndume had on October 2 when the matter came up for trial, informed the court that he does not know the whereabouts of the Defendant.

Likewise, at the resumed proceedings on Monday, the lawmaker, lamented before the court that all his efforts to locate the 1st Defendant, proved abortive.

Ndume begged the court to issue an arrest warrant to enable security operatives to track down and apprehend Maina.

Ndume said he was willing to forfeit his own freedom to ensure that Maina is arrested and produced before the court.

Addressing the court after he was queried about Maina’s whereabouts on Monday, Ndume said: “My lord, I understand that the defendant is in Abuja and I did all I can to locate him without any definite result.

“My lord, I am constraint because I cannot take the law into my hand.

“I had reported to the DG SSS, the AIG of Police Investigation; I even wrote to police commissioner and I also reported the case to DPO of Jabi where the defendant resides.
“But my lord, even if I see Maina today, I can’t force him to come to court. I am appealing to u to issue a warrant on him.”

Trial Justice Okon Abang then reminded Ndume that the legal implication of such arrest warrant is that he would also be remanded in custody pending when Maina is apprehended.

“I don’t mind my lord. My concern is to have him in court so that I can continue my life”, Ndume responded.

He told the court he had only met Maina once in his life before he decided to stand as his surety, being the lawmaker that represents his constituency.

Besides, Ndume told the court that he was pressurized to stand surety for the Defendant by three former governors.

“As a senator serving him (Maina), his family, wife, mother and uncle appealed to me to stand as a surety.

“I went to prison to confirm for myself whether he was actually sick and the prison officers told me that he was actually sick and appealed to me to be his surety so that he could have access to medical attention.

“Orji Kalu when he was in prison then, Joshua Dariye, former Governor of Taraba, Rev. Jolly Nyame, all appealed to me in the prison to assist him.

“It took me eight months my lord to take that decision. In fact, I have to be given an indemnity by his uncle; signed by me, him and a lawyer that Maina would always be in court.

“He guaranteed but since that day, I went to Maitama Hospital to check their record, I went to Abuja Clinic, I went to the house he is purported to be living in Jabi, Abuja.

“This is one of the professional hazards we face as lawmakers, representing the good, the bad and the ugly.

“If I was not a serving senator, I wouldn’t have cause to stand as surety,” Ndume added.

He decried that Maina who claimed to be ill, had recently released a video clip which went viral on social media about his state of health, but refused to make himself available.

“I am helpless before you my lord. I appeal that such innocent citizens like me holding a public office for over one million people should not be subjected to this,” Ndume pleaded.

Earlier, EFCC’s lawyer, Farouk Abdullah, applied for leave of the court to try Maina in absentia.

He also urged the court to not only revoke Maina’s bail, but to also direct his surety, Ndume, to pay the sum of N500million, being the total bail bond.

Maina’s lawyer, Francis Oronsaye, opposed the application to revoke his client’s bail, though he also admitted not knowing his whereabouts.

“My lord, the information we have is that the Defendant is admitted in hospital after a surgery. He said he was undergoing treatment after the surgery and the location was not disclosed.

Politics#ENDSARS: It’s Your Right To Protest, Buhari Tells Youths. by vanida6(op): 3:12pm On Oct 19, 2020
…Says younger generation should be allowed to exercise their freedom

…Appeals hoodlums shouldn’t be allowed to hijack genuine concerns

By Johnbosco Agbakwuru

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said that it was the right of the youths to protest and make certain demands from their leaders.

The President also said that the young generation should be allowed to exercise their fundamental rights, but advised that they should not allow their genuine concerns to be hijacked by hoodlums.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, after meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, Mr. Dare said President Buhari appealed to #EndSARS protesters to give the federal government time to address their demands as the team set up has already gone to work.

He said that he briefed the President on the protest against police brutality.

*According to him, “Mr. President said the youths of this country have spoken and he has heard and he has since gone to work for the youths of our country.

“The President promised that he will ensure that the reforms he has promised are met, he will make sure that the reforms are long lasting and that the reforms will deliver for our country a police force that we will be proud of.

“He appreciates the fact that they have brought the SARS issues to the fore through their peaceful protest.

“He recognizes the fact that they have called upon the government to do what is necessary and that as the President and a father, he will make sure that the demands as put forward are met.

“The President said that as far as he is concerned, it’s important to allow the younger generation to exercise the freedom to protest and make sure that such protest is in a peaceful manner

“He said that part of the demands that were made is to make sure that those protesting are protected and that any police officer that has in one way or the other attacked any protesters be brought to book.

“So the President thinks it’s a fundamental right, he thinks so long as the protest is peaceful and focused.

“He believes that the youths of this country have the right to demand for certain things.”

PoliticsPolice Recruitment: IGP Files 20 Grounds Of Appeal At Supreme Court. by vanida6(op): 8:09am On Oct 19, 2020
By Ikechukwu Nnochiri – Abuja

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu, has filed 20 grounds of appeal at the Supreme Court to challenge the judgement that voided the recruitment of 10,000 constables by the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, last year.

The IGP, the NPF and Federal Ministry of Police Affairs, through their lawyer, Dr. Alex Izinyon, SAN, urged the apex court to set-aside a judgment the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal delivered on September 30, which invalidated the recruitment process.

The appellants further prayed the Supreme Court to stay the execution of the verdict of the appellate court.

A three-man panel of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Olabisi Ige had in the contested judgment, unanimously held that the IGP and the NPF lacked the power to recruit the constables.

The appellate court held that the power to carry out the recruitment was exclusively vested on the Police Service Commission.

Consequently, the appellate court not only vacated an earlier judgment of the Federal High Court Abuja that upheld the power of the IGP to carry out the recruitment exercise, it voided the actual recruitment of the 10,000 constables.

*Meanwhile, insisting that the process had already been concluded, the appellants, argued that the power of the NPF and the IGP to enlist the constables was distinct from the power of the PSC to appoint them.

They faulted the Court of Appeal’s decision that the Nigeria Police Regulations 1968 conferring the power of “enlistment of recruit constables” conferred on the NPF, was inconsistent with the Nigerian Constitution.

The IGP told the Supreme Court that section 71 of the Police Regulation, 1968 was not synonymous with the power of “appointment” used in the Nigerian Constitution or the Police Service Commission (Establishment) Act.

“The power to enlist recruit constables conferred on the 1st appellant (NPF) is distinct and is not the same function conferred on the 1st respondent (PSC),” his lawyer, Izinyon, SAN, argued.

He contended that the procedure for enlistment of recruit constables was specifically provided in section 76 – 106 of the Nigeria Police Regulations, adding that the PSC “is not conferred with absolute power on any power howsoever described to enlist recruit constables into the 1st appellant (NPF)”.

He also argued that the Court of Appeal erred in law by relying on the definition of “recruitment” contained in Public Service Rules 2008, which he contended was not applicable to Nigerian Police Force.

IGP’s lawyer maintained that the Court of Appeal caused a miscarriage of justice and a breach of fair hearing to the detriment of his clients by relying on sections 14 and 15 of the Police Act without giving parties to the case an opportunity to air their views on them before judgment was delivered.

He also contended that the appeal court did not show how the Police Act and the Police Regulations, 1968, made by the President, were inconsistent with the provisions of paragraph 30, Part 1 of the Third Schedule to the Nigerian Constitution.

Politics#ENDSARS: Bashir Magashi Warns Protesters Against Undermining National Security by vanida6(op): 7:29am On Oct 19, 2020
The Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Magashi (retd) has cautioned EndSARS protesters against breaching national security.

General Magashi gave the caution when the National Coordinator Buhari Campaign Organisation, BCO, Danladi Pasali led the Executives drawn from its Headquarters, Zonal and State levels on courtesy visit to him at the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja.

He extoled the virtues of President Muhammadu Buhari whom he described as a forthright leader and thanked members of the Buhari Campaign Organisation for promoting his political ideology, democratic governance, Rule of Law and philosophy.

The Minister of Defence who told the group of his pioneering membership of the Buhari Organisation which dates back to the years of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, told them to fortify their flanks and ranks against subversive peneration of mischief makers capable of causing distraction, disaffection and division among them.

He assured them of the support of the Ministry of Defence in actualising their lofty programmes in raising the bar of national security.

He said they should leverage on their structure in the 774 local government areas and 36 states of the federation, as well as the Federal Capital Territory to gather intelligence and channel it to the appropriate authorities for action.

*Earlier, the National Coordinator of the Organisation, Danladi Pasali said the objective of the courtesy call was to congratulate the Minister on his one year in office and to thank him for emplacing what he called gigantic reforms in the Military.

Thanking General Magashi for his focused leadership in contributing to national peace and security, they offered to render service to the relevant authorities to burst crimes capable of threatening Peace and Security in the country.

He recalled the dogged and dedicated role played by the group in the electoral victories of President Buhari in the 2011 and 2019 Presidential election, adding that the organisation was spurred to establish National/ Community Support Security Initiative to key into the fight against Boko Haram terrorists in the North East, banditry in the North Central and kidnapping in the Niger Delta.

He therefore solicited the backing of the ministry for the initiative to succeed towards contributing their quota to the maintenance of peace, security and socio-economic development of the country.

Sports'I Am Going To Return Stonger' - Van Dijk Vows To Bounce Back by vanida6(op): 6:39am On Oct 19, 2020
The defender has taken to social media to thank supporters and revealed that he has already begun his rehabilitation process with a specialist.

Virgil van Dijk has spoken out for the first time since he sustained a potential season-ending injury in Saturday's Merseyside derby, with the Liverpoolcentre-back vowing to bounce back "better, fitter and stronger than ever before".

The defender had to be helped from the field inside the opening quarter-hour of his side's 2-2 drawwith Everton following a challenge from Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Subsequent scans have confirmed that the Netherlandsskipper has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, leaving him facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

*Van Dijk's injury has handed a major blow to Liverpool's aspirations of a successful title defence of their first Premier League crown, with the club already relatively stretched across the Dutchman's preferred position as it is.

Taking to social media on Sunday however, the 29-year-old defender thanked supporters for their words of comfort and stated his intent to repay their faith down the line as he begins his long journey back to full fitness.

"This afternoon I met with a leading consultant to start the process of planning the finer details of my rehabilitation following the incident yesterday,"

Van Dijk wrote on Twitter.

"I'm now fully focused on my recovery and will do everything I can to be back as quickly as possible.

"Despite the obvious disappointment, I'm a firm believer that within difficulty lies opportunity and with God's help I'm going to make sure I return better, fitter and stronger than ever before.

"In football, as in life, I believe everything happens for a reason and it's important to try and keep level-headed whether going through the highs or the lows.

With the support of my wife, kids, family and everyone at Liverpool, I'm ready for the challenge ahead.

"I'd like to thank everyone for the messages of support. It's meant a huge amount to me and my family, and now I'll be doing everything possible to support my teammates in anyway I can ahead of a big few weeks ahead as I take my own recovery day by day. I'll be back."

Liverpool will begin their Champions Leaguecampaign with a trip to Van Dijk's homeland to face Ajaxon Wednesday, with manager Klopp facing headaches over his lineup as he looks to compensate for the loss of his talismanic star.
