While PMS scarcity bites, hard across the nooks and crannies of Kwara state, causing very few vehicles to now be on the roads, the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC said it has arrested two middle-aged men, Yunus Yusuf, 32 and Ismail Olamilekan 33, for allegedly engaging in the black market business of the premium motor spirit, PMS.

According to the spokesman of the Corps in the State Babawale Zaid Afolabi, the two suspects were arrested with more than 30 kegs of petrol which they apparently bought from neighbouring states and plan to sell at a high price to end-users in the state capital.

The statement of NSCDC spokesman reads,” As directed by the state commandant Makinde Iskil Ayinla, the anti-vandal unit of the NSCDC in the state led by the unit commander ACC Ayinde Yusuf continue with their operational activities in order to check any action or inaction that can worsen the current fuel scarcity situation.

“They were able to intercept a taxi cab at Eyenkorin area, which was loaded with 30 kegs of PMS.”

The statement explained further that the two suspects later confessed to being engaging in the black market business of the PMS adding that they went to Ogbomoso to buy the products which they will now be selling at exorbitant prices to desperate end-users in Ilorin.

The NSCDC image-maker restated the corps readiness,” to make life difficult to all the saboteurs who are trying to make life difficult for the people of the state”, adding that the two suspects will be charged to court after the completion of the investigations.

Meanwhile, except for BOVAS petrol stations in Ilorin which are just about 10 % of the petrol stations that sells PMS, all other stations were under lock.

Further findings revealed that, as has always been the case, many of the stakeholders who could have intervened are also involved in the illicit business, thereby making life unbearable for the residents.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has said that the 48-year-old Hadiza Ibrahim, a street beggar caught with N500,000 and $100 cash was not involved in any drug peddling, arms dealing, kidnapping or otherwise, as the money in her possession, was accumulated overtime.

The FCT Administration revealed that preliminary security profiling of Hadiza, who was caught at a junction along Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, in Wuse II, Abuja, clearly established that she was not into such nefarious acts.

This revelation was against the backdrop of mixed reactions trailing the controversial arrest of Hadiza by officials of Social Development Secretariat (SDS) some days ago.

Briefing journalists on the issue on Thursday, the acting Director, Social Welfare Services of the SDS, Malam Sani Amar, said as part of its profiling, the Police personnel attached to its enforcement team, were given time to play their role, and it was clearly established that she is not into such nefarious acts.

Within our little knowledge and experience in discharging our duty, with the assistance of security personnel attached to us, we understand that Hadiza was not into any criminal activities.

“And if you look at the money found in possession, it was accumulated overtime. And the profiling we did on her, and we gave the Police in our team, time to play their role, and they did what they can, and it was clearly established that she is not into such nefarious acts.

“She was so wise to have selected the areas of her own begging business, where she realises huge money daily,” he said.

Liverpool Football Club have completed the signing of Luis Diaz from FC Porto, subject to the successful granting of a work permit and international clearance.

The 25-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Reds after passing a medical and finalising personal terms.

Diaz will arrive on Merseyside once he has completed international duty with Colombia, who face Argentina in a World Cup qualifier in Cordoba on Tuesday evening.

He joins Liverpool after two-and-a-half seasons with FC Porto, where he made 125 appearances and scored 41 goals, and will wear the No.23 shirt.

The forward faced the Reds twice in this season’s Champions League group stage with the Portuguese side and had netted 14 times in 18 league runouts this term.

He had previously represented Barranquilla FC and Junior FC in his homeland before making the switch to Europe in 2019.

To date, Diaz has 31 caps for Colombia, with seven goals for his country.
