It's always easy to look back with rose-tinted glasses, but comparing RLC at Palace to Barkley at Everton where he was a regular England international is very wrong mehn.

There's no denying that he's had a better career than RLC owing to the fact he got a shot in the first team early.

Barkley is the height of inconsistencies even in his best days. He loses the ball way too easily and can barely make a split sec decision when it is required.

Not saying RLC is the finished product but he is a far better choice than Barkley and he's shown the promise time and time again.


One angle you should definitely look at is, "Has Barkley improved over the years?, Is there even a chance that he'd?"

I'd take the younger Barkley over this one any day. Dude is on the decline.

He signed his first pro contract with Nice in 2016. He just rejected new contract last year.

I'm just thinking, if Nice values him that much, they would have started trying to tie him down long term maybe in the second year of his initial contract. Why does the club wait till the final year to start negotiating for a new contract?

I don't know the full detail but I don't think Nice tried that hard to keep him.

And a player this young this young to run down his contract to become a free agent, for me, puts a question mark on his and/or his agent behaviour.

It's more likely out of either his attitude or his agent's. We've seen situations where top prospects would run down their contracts at their boyhood clubs.

He's a raw talent no doubt. I think a year or 2 ago he was rated above Upamecano. At the end it's a win-win situation for Chelsea. We're getting him for free and can always sell him for more profits if it doesn't play out well.
