#1: Playing Video Games Isn't Beneficial To The Society

Get off your couch and go do something productive they say; oblivious to the fact that playing video games can actually contribute to society. Playing some online games can actually help solve science’s biggest problems . For example, the game Foldit , an online puzzle game about protein folding, “resolved the structure of an enzyme that causes an Aids-like disease in monkeys. Researchers had been working on the problem for 13 years. The gamers solved it in three weeks.”

Gamers who play an astronomy game called
Planet Hunters “found a curious planet with four stars in its system, and to date, they've discovered 40 planets that could potentially support life, all of which had been previously missed by professional astronomers.”

It's amazing to see how playing online games can be greatly beneficial to society, helping scientists solve problems that could lead to cure for diseases and even find potentially inhabitable planets. I’ve only recently learned about these games myself, so it is probably safe to assume that many non-gamers have not either. However, non-gamers should know that playing some games are much more beneficial to society and the advancement of science than playing outside or watching television.

#2: Gamers Are Out Of Touch With Reality

https://www.fraghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/3.jpg

Some of the most common misconceptions about gamers include theories about how they are people who are trying to escape reality, taking the roles of elves, spacemen or even mutants, because they are bored and unhappy with their normal lives. The fact that a video game is so immersive that it makes you feel like you are part of its universe doesn’t mean that you are losing your grip on reality, it’s just that you enjoy it immensely, like with a good book or a catchy movie, but in this case, it is an interactive medium with a lot more to offer.

#3: Gamers Are Violent People

https://www.fraghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/gta5.jpg

Many people think that video games are all about killing and doing violent things and while this may be true for some of the titles, the strategy, coordination and team work involved are excellent examples of cognitive training and situation simulation. Besides, there are so many gaming titles that don’t imply shooting or fighting that it’s downright ridiculous to assume a person is becoming violent because he or she is playing too many video games

#4: All Gamers Are Children

https://www.fraghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/kid-crying.jpg

Nowadays, games are more than just jumping on platforms and completing puzzles, many of them even come with a specific rating based on the maturity of the content they offer. Other games focus on intricate plotlines that are meant to be understood by a mature person so the argument that gamers have a childish mind simply does not stand. Being an ever-evolving medium, gaming is speaking to a wider audience each passing day, increasing its influence as an entertainment product for all to enjoy.

#5: Female Gamers Are Fake

https://www.fraghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/otome-gamers.jpg

Because video games have become such a popular medium in the past several years, more and more people found out that streaming is a pretty good way of earning money. In the myriad of online entertainers that make a living out of playing video games there are also fake ones that are using all kinds of hacks or schemes to trick the public. A grand majority of them are attractive women who pretend to play games but it would be a mistake to say that female gamers are all fake by default.

#6: Gamers Waste Their Life

https://8bitconference.com/wp-content/uploads/photo-gallery/thumb/Gamers_Unite_7.jpg

Yet another common misunderstanding about a gamer’s life is that it gets wasted away, playing the whole time and not actually living in reality. Of course, there are extreme cases when people forget to step away from the computer and spend their days gaming and nothing else, but it would be a mistake to think that this happens to all the people who enjoy playing a couple of matches. Not to mention the professional gamers who actually make a living out of playing video games.

#7: Gamers Don't Learn Anything From Video Games

https://www.fraghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/8.jpg

Even the most mindless video game can teach you something if you are interested in finding information in the most obscure of places. Not to mention titles like Sid Meyer’s Civilization or Hearts of Iron that can very easily teach us a history lesson every time we start a new game, so the fact that gamers learn nothing from their playtime sessions is not that accurate. A better attention span, enhanced reflexes and improved memory being some other benefits that are associated with playing video games.

#8: Gamers Can't Raise A family

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://evolvedplusone.files./2013/06/family-gaming.jpg

Playing video games is an activity often associated with being irresponsible and not having a life, thus being unable to raise a family. The truth is that everyone has different priorities and while there are isolated cases of parents who neglected their children to play some addictive game, this is not a general truth. In fact, many famous streamers raise and educate their children just like the next person, so complaining about video games having a negative influence is simply not fair.

#9: Gamers Are Antisocial

https://www.fraghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/lan-party.png

While there are a ton of single player games on the market, a significant number of gamers prefer to engage in multiplayer sessions where they can socialize with other people, join group chats and complete quests together. In addition to these, competitive games such as League of Legends or Call of Duty are always played with a team, so the fact that gamers are anti-social beings is kind of outdated.

#10: Gamers Are Morbidly Obese
https://www.fraghero.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/francis.jpg

The myth of the morbidly obese WoW player is so wide-spread in the pop culture medium that it’s impossible to ignore it and while it does have a real basis, not all gamers are part of this stereotype. In fact, the players that are part of a major league need to stay in shape, hydrate and eat properly to be able to endure the stress of competitions. So, once again, a popular myth about gamers gets busted by actual facts.

Gamers have always been subjected to all kinds of misconceptions regarding their life style. Most of the times they are labeled as anti-social beings who spend their lives crammed in their mother’s basement surviving solely on Mountain Dew and Doritos. Of course, many of these stories are urban myths and in what follows we’ll debunk 10 of the most common things that non-gamers get totally wrong about gamers.

Major Update On Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

First the release date which is March 22nd 2019 for PC PS4 and Xbox One between this and DMC March is gonna be a big month and I look forward to that quite a bit.

But beyond that we also found out that the game is going to have multiple endings, and that the new game plus option is going to be present, which is very good because it makes some implications about the story and about the replay of value that I think personally make the game a little bit more enticing.

But even more, the size and scope of the game is going to be around Blood-borne and Dark Souls 3 now this probably puts it somewhere between 30 to 40 hours, not necessarily from a completionist perspective, but I mean that bodes well as far as I'm concerned and we also got to see a lot of new gameplay which showed off things like the stealth, the grappling hook, the faster paced action that feels still like Dark Souls but it does have its own unique rhythm and I appreciate that quite a bit.

There's also more time spent in the air not just from the grappling hook but you see a lot of jumping. We saw quite a few jump kills, I don't know, it looks like a game that's going to bring a little more variety in gameplay and being they did that I think that lended itself - maybe less time spent on combat but it also looks like the strategic elements remain and that's very much kind of what makes a Dark Souls game a Dark Souls game.

Still, this broadens the horizons of a Souls like I would say considerably, and well I may not be a hundred percent correct about that, I am very excited because there's enough that looks different to me that makes me really want to see how it goes.

Nvidia announced some new graphics cards
I don't know much about tech stuff so I'm sorry if I can't really explain much about this but it seems like a really cool stuff, seeing the whole hype around it.

You can pre-order them now but they're going to be available apparently at the end of September except one of them which will be available in October you can look into more detailed specs for yourself.

New Update On Cyberpunk 2077
CDProjekt RED showed off the progress of Cyberpunk 2077, announced that the game internally was playable from start to finish. That doesn't mean they're close to done or anything, in a large game the game being playable from start to finish just means the beginning of making sure that it is smooth.

At this point it is looking extremely slick though, we did get to see some new screenshots and although they didn't show it off publicly, apparently they showed off some stuff from Knight city, honestly this is a game that I think given Cyberpunk is known for, the Neon lights we've kind of been waiting to see, that you know we also got some new concept art and people were actually allowed to take pictures of the title screen of the game and it is really a pleasure, just looking at that is even cool

Devil may Cry Is Launching On May 5th 2019

Devil May Cry 5 saw a large amount of activity, first we got a new trailer which is I mean it's Devil May Cry, it's a trailer, it's stylistic, it's fast paced, it's very cool and we also got a release date for the game which will be coming March 8th 2019 for ps4 Xbox One and PC but more importantly people got to play it.

I've actually seen some footage of the game in action, it is absolutely delightful to watch, it comes off very much like classic Devil May Cry, but what's interesting is it does actually bring in a couple of things from DMC the reboot, that was kind of side game.

Specifically stuff from that game that I think are actually among the better additions to it but bringing in the moving environments for one, is very cool and even cooler. I think and I understand this doesn't actually affect the gameplay but the enemy introductions that's a thing now which I absolutely love. It kind of gives you a little bit of a Bayonetta vibe which as you know these games share more than a little DNA but there's a lot of cool stuff as well, you actually recover arms from the environment instead of purchasing them they give Nero different powers, honestly, I just want to play it, I'm quite jealous of the people who got to play it at Gamescom and it makes March seem quite a ways away.

Surge 2 Gameplay Unveiled

We  got gameplay from the Surge 2 which by the way is something I definitely wanted to see. The surge is a great game honestly to me, it looks like they've really upped it a little bit for whatever reason. It seems faster to me although I definitely can't say whether or not that's the truth since  I haven't played it and the Surge is a little bit more hectic than Dark Souls albeit a good take on that type of gameplay.

Honestly I'm happy for more Surge, I feel like the trailer perfectly captured what made the first one good as well as just brought the brutality in a good way.

Shenmue III Is Coming Soon!!!

We got the Shenmue 3 release date, specifically it's coming on August 27th 2019 and I have to say I'm just beyond intrigued on what Shenmue 3 ends up being, with the release of the I guess up rezzed versions of 1 & 2 which are by the way very very  good games but we saw the seems I think and it's gonna be so interesting to see them actually resolve the story from those games without modifying the game on such a level that it becomes something totally different, while still managing to work in the modern gaming era.

Shenmue is a  good game honestly, I think that resolving the series years later is actually good because all of the ideas and experience from other games at sprang forth from the Shenmue development such as iakh is a series which is phenomenal have put more tools in the Shenmue 3 developer's toolkit. I love one and two and I think it's gonna be really cool to play three.

There Is No New Assassin's Creed Game Coming In 2019

So let me get down by breaking the bad news to you guys first, we won't be getting any new Assassin Creed game for quite a while. That sounds like it's not a great announcement or it's weird that this is looked at as a positive announcement at least. But the reason we got Assassin's Creed origins and Assassin's Creed Odyssey back-to-back is because the team was separated and working on both of them at the same time.

It wasn't actually quite a while ago that Ubisoft made the decision not to do a yearly Assassin's Creed game and Odyssey is going to get support with new content and quality of life fixes as necessary over the course of a couple of years, which is great actually, instead of just pushing out as many Assassin's Creed games as they can, they're just focusing on the quality of this one. That's jusy wonderful for Ubisoft, that's basically a different philosophy and considering how good Origins actually was which is very good. I think October 5th will probably be a pretty good day for Assassin's Creed fans.

GamingRe: Top 10 Video Games Based On Myths And Traditions by vasaratti:
Jotun - Norse Mythology

Jotun is a beautifully hand drawn, outline by outline adventure game that plays out like a sleep time story that you continue requesting that your mom tell you over and over.

Based Norse folklore, Jotun recounts the tale of Thora, a Viking lady named by her dad after the lord of thunder. Living in the shadow of her sibling and attempting to pick up the acknowledgment of her dad as a veritable warrior lady, she endures an undignified passing which sends her to Ginnungagap – their name for the void.

There, she is given another opportunity to substantiate herself to the divine beings as a genuine warrior by crushing natural mammoths called the Jotun, which will then enable her to enter the lobbies of Valhalla . Loaded with testing baffles, beautiful universes to investigate and fun boss battles, Jotun's greatest blemish is that it is a short experience that abandons you longing for significantly more.

Okami - Japanese Mythology
Okami is a great game that unfortunately was a commercial flop. The game borrows lots of elements from Japanese folklore.

In the form of a white wolf, you must free Japan of all evil. The game is presented like an animated Japanese ink painting, which gives it a unique look, you will meet loads of characters who are based on figures from Japanese folklore.

Most Westerners won't fully understand all the Japanese myths in the game but that doesn't make it any less fun to play

God Of War Series- Norse/Greek Mythology
Who said you couldn't learn anything from video games. God of War might be the most famous game series that's all about mythology. Kratos pretty much killed every God from the Greek realm in the first few games so the excellent God of War from this year saw him moved to the land of Norse mythology, I have to admit that I knew a lot less about Scandinavian folklore, however, the Norse gods are just as awesome as the deities from the Greek pantheon. I absolutely loved the world serpent and there are many other famous gods in the game I won't spoil for you.

Dante's Inferno - Christian Mythology
Dante's Inferno is based on Inferno from Dante's Divine Comedy.

You are a Templar Knight who needs to reclaim the soul of his lover from Lucifer himself. This means you'll need to travel through the nine circles of hell which isn't exactly an easy task.

You will come across many evil creatures that will need to be killed with your holy weapons, different circles of Hell all look very disturbing and have great themes like greed, lust and gluttony the game also has a pretty good combo system and interesting puzzles.

Who could think hell could be this much fun. grin grin

GamingRe: Top 10 Video Games Based On Myths And Traditions by vasaratti: 12:47pm On Aug 08, 2018
Apotheon - Greek Mythology
It shouldn't come as a surprise that Apotheon is based on Greek mythology. This game is stylized to look exactly like those vast paintings from ancient Greece.

You and Nick and Rios with the aid of Zeus's wife Hera you are sent to the realm of the gods, here you need to defeat almost every guard in Greek mythology and ultimately confront Zeus himself.

Apotheon tries to stay true to its source material and the art style plays a big part in this. Playing with pottery that has never been more fun

Titan Quest - Greek/Egyptian/Asian Mythology
Titan Quest brings mythological creatures from different countries together. You need to travel to ancient Greece, Egypt and China on a quest to defeat the Titans who escaped from their prison. This means you'll do a lot of hacking and slashing similar to the Diablo games.

The game is full of mythological characters and beasts that need to be beaten, prepare to take on creatures like Harpies and Cyclops you will also visit many interesting locations like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and Olympus. It's a great mismatch of things that result in a very enjoyable game

HellBlade: Senua's Sacrifice - Norse Mythology
Hell blade tackles very serious subjects like mental illness in a game world based on Norse mythology. The enemies look very menacing and the world itself is extremely bleak. The female protagonist rides a canoe into Helheim which is the Northland of the dead, you will encounter a few ancient Norse gods like Hell who is the Norse and goddess of the Dead.

The game was praised for its depiction of mental illness but it also should get credit for the amount of research that went into the mythology.

GamingRe: Top 10 Video Games Based On Myths And Traditions by vasaratti: 12:26pm On Aug 08, 2018
Darksiders - Christian Mythology
Darksiders is a great game that's based on the Book of Revelations (this is part of the New Testament from the Christian Bible you are war who is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse)

However, Darksiders take a lot of liberties with the material it's based on for story purposes.

They change two of the four horsemen Farrah placed pestilence with strife and famine with fury. The war between heaven and hell plays a big part in the story. Darksiders is still one of the best action-adventure games from the last generation
