#1: Far Cry Set on the tropical archipelago Rook Island, everyone probably remembers the “definition of insanity” speech from E3 2011, given by Vaas, the game’s frenetic antagonist. The game explores ideas of identity and mental health while asking the player to slowly retake the archipelago by hunting animals, crafting weapons, and retaking enemy outposts. The island’s inhabitants, both human and wildlife, give it a sense of personality just as strong, if not as vocal, as Vaas himself, making Rook Island one of gaming’s most memorable island settings Lalasticlala Seun Cao 2 Likes 2 Shares

#2: Tomb Raider (2013) Crsytal Dynamics’ reboot of Lara Croft’s adventure looked to emphasize her character more than her body, and while it achieved that, it also portrayed her as a murderous psychopath. Still, the game is remembered for its engaging tombs and great puzzle physics. The island of Yamatai, where Lara and her team are marooned, is full of mystery with a strong seasoning of the supernatural. The game’s backstory about the island’s old inhabitants and their politics is one of its unsung qualities. Found through quick notes and other artifacts scattered around the island, these small bits of background make exploring Yamatai interesting and exciting. 1 Like 1 Share

#3: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is another great open-world RPG if players find themselves enjoying the latest release The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. However, you could make the argument that Morrowind is more of a continent which are made up of a series of islands. Regardless, the overall campaign of the video game will follow The Tribunal and their struggle against Dagoth Ur. 1 Like

#4: Crysis Crysis is a well-known franchise by developers Crytek and in this particular list, we’re looking at the first Crysis title. The video game is set in the future where an alien structure was discovered within the mountains of a series of islands near the East Philippines. Players will step into the shoes of Jake Dunn, a soldier in the U.S. Army Delta Force. During your expedition to the mountains, gamers will find that they will need to battle against aliens and North Korean forces. 1 Like 1 Share

#5: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is the tenth installment to the long running The Legend of Zelda franchise. As always, players take on the role of Link but this time, the emphasis is for players to explore the open seas as they take the fight against Ganon. Much like the recent installments to the franchise, Wind Waker features 3D gameplay, however, the art style is drastically different in comparison to the past few installments at the time. Nintendo developed the video game to retain more of a cartoonish style to the video game with cell shading

#6: Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag The sixth main installment of the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, takes players to the open seas. While following the main overall plot of the series with the fight between Assassins and the Templars, there’s a real joy in taking up the pirate life with Edward Kenway. Players will find that there is an emphasis on exploring the open waters, gathering a crew, sink opposing ships, and reap the rewards that come across their way. Outside of the sea life, players will also explore lands and fight using melee combat. This video game easily gathered newcomers to the franchise and its one installment from the series that you will not want to pass up. 2 Likes

#7: Secrets Of Monkey Island Before Lucasfilm Games shuttered their doors in 2013, they were responsible for some great games like Grim Fandango and Maniac Mansion. Chief among these was 1990’s The Secret of Monkey Island, set on the fictional Melee and Monkey Islands. The game is well-remembered for its point-and-click gameplay. It’s even more revered for its humorous and tongue-in-cheek story, which while silly at times, is at its core a story of a young man looking to escape where he’s from in order to better himself (through piracy, obviously). Lucasfilm’s point-and-click masterpiece shows that islands don’t just have to be prisons of plague or otherworldly horror – they can be beacons of hope, too.

#8: Contra Konami’s run-and-gun action game takes place on the Galuga archipelago in Oceania. You may not remember that, even if you blasted your way through its seven stages several times, whether it be in an arcade or on the NES. The game will forever be remembered for its blasting gameplay rather than its setting. Much like Dr. Neo Cortex in Crash Bandicoot, the Red Falcon organization needs a small chain of islands to start its world-conquering business. Are we starting to notice a theme here? 1 Like

#9: Crash Bandicoot Like most who grew up during the PSX era, the most memorable aspect of Crash Banidcoot is the orange mascot’s choice of jean shorts (or jorts) as his only article of clothing. But there is an island setting here: the game’s antagonist, Dr. Neo Cortex, needs three isles to house his army of mutated animals. Crash’s adventure takes him through jungles, across beaches, and into temple ruins in order to stop Cortex’s nefarious plan. Naughty Dog’s breakout hit may be remembered more for its protagonist than its setting, but the game’s Wumpa islands both narratively and literally serve as Crash’s home. Luckily the game can be played today with a massive overhaul in the visuals department thanks to the release of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. 1 Like 1 Share

#10: Apex Legends Much like Fortnite, Apex Legends is a battle royale video game title. It’s quickly becoming the latest and greatest within the genre due to the fact that is also another free video game title to download. Likewise, Respawn Entertainment kept this game a secret which generated a ton of hype when it was released into the market. Gamers quickly downloaded this title and it gathered millions of players within its initial launch week. Again, the game is a battle royale title so ultimately this first-person shooter will have players striving to be the last man standing. Players will find that the game will focus on teams of three and that the characters featured are hero classed based which offers their own unique attributes and abilities. Likewise, if you enjoy the Titanfall series then you will find that this game actually takes place in the same universe. Apex Legends takes place approximately thirty years after the events of Titanfall 2. If you never really tried a battle royale title then honestly we save give this title a try. It’s currently the biggest hit right now and as a result, you’ll find that there is a massive community actively playing the game. Best of all, if you have a few friends then you can easily start a squad together for online matches. Being a battle royale game the map there’s no escaping. Players a set on a finite amount of space to begin with thanks to developers placing players on an island. 1 Like

The remote or abandoned island seems to be one of the most used — and most useful — settings for stories in any medium. From Daniel Defoe’s groundbreaking novel Robinson Crusoe to Ubisoft’s best-selling FPS Far Cry 3, humans have been using islands to explore various ideas and themes for centuries. This is especially true in video games, where islands cut off from the rest of the world are the perfect places for mystical adventures, insane terrorists, and quiet puzzle solving. They can serve as places to escape to, or prisons for characters to get trapped on. Including both the serious and the silly, here are some of the best games with island settings. https://gameranx.com/features/id/36303/article/top-10-games-set-on-remote-or-abandoned-islands/ 1 Like |

#6: Pokémon X Dark Souls Instead of saying "Praise the sun" in this crossover "it's praise Solrock!" the theme of the fan art was set before Pokéballs existed so he's catching a Pokémon the super old - fashioned way. This fanart excited fans and suggested what other Dark Soul characters would be interesting to have in the world of Pokémon

Skyrim X Legend Of Zelda There's a dragon's shadow cast over Link and Dovahkin in the fan art picture which makes it look more Skyrim like. Skyrim is such a massive world of warriors that many Easter Eggs are hidden. A Zelda Easter Egg Legend through an item, quest, or character would have been cool. Skyrim Easter Eggs contained stories in other other games such as Pac - Man, Sword in the Stone, Lord of the Rings, Poltergeist, Hangover and Ghostbusters. So why not add Zelda's legend somewhere?

#8: Kingdom Hearts X Life is Strange This crossover is different from from many crossover fanart from Kingdom Hearts. Riku and Sora are the main characters in this picture, instead of just jumping into the world. Sora and Riku work in this picture strangely enough as Max and Chloe.

#9: Bioshock X Slenderman Before he got his own games, Slenderman was created as a modern internet folktale. He's a scary monster that basically steals kids. BioShock is a horrific game in its own way. You have little girls running around with giant needles and the massive big daddy holding giant drills protecting you. This fanart obviously shows Slenderman doing what he does best, taking a child. Big Daddy is behind him, however, and ready to fight to save the little girl.

#10: Metal Gear X Mario Maybe one day Raiden will make the cut for the games of Smash Bros. Until then, this fan art can at least be appreciated. Smash Bros. is one of the video game industry's crossover kings. It's one of the few places that you have to beat Link and Kirby. Mario is a little jarring in this style he's the same size and style as Snake, Samus, and Raiden this combination is golden and very rare to see.

Being a fan of of only one video game is a rare thing. We have favorite genres and in in far more than one story gamers often dabble. We are attached to so many characters and worlds that we are considered an interdimensional beings. The fact that fandoms overlap inspires crossovers. These video game characters and the worlds they live in collide with a ton of fanart and fanfiction. There are characters with so many similarities that they would they could meet. Clementine and Ellie, for example, are both children of the apocalypse after zombies. Although they came from completely different games, they would make an amazing team Don't you think? We'd also love to see characters fighting each other. Who would win a fight between Raiden of MGS against Kratos from God of War? Here's my list of favourite crossover art made by fans. |

#1: Microsoft Buying Positive Reviews For The Xbox One It really makes you wonder: Did Microsoft know they dropped a press conference clanger long before they were reminded by the rest of the world? It certainly feels that way in retrospect, as once one Youtuber blew the whistle on the Microsoft - Machinima partnership, tons of more began to come out of the woodwork. An excerpt from the "testalising offer" sent to many of Machinima's Youtubers (who should be reviewers of equal opportunities or trusted sources, no less) details how Machinima could actively offer their personalities more money if they said nice things about Xbox products. 2: EA Promised A Free Game When it comes to which platform is best for video gaming, consoles and PC gamers are always at each other's throats. The PC Master race often claims graphic superiority while PlayStation and Xbox fans cling with jealous zeal to their consoles and exclusives. Back in 2011, owners of PlayStation had an opportunity to stick to the rest. EA announced that each copy of the PlayStation III Battlefield III would be shipped with a free version of Battlefield 1943. Talk about good fortune! The Blu - Ray technology built into the PlayStation provided the devs with sufficient additional space to add free content. Of course, the gamers were left with nothing but empty dreams and crushing disappointment when it came time to deliver. It turns out, at the last minute, EA changed their minds and never bothered to tell anyone. All owners of PlayStation had to buy the game. Surprisingly, a class action lawsuit against EA was threatened by gamers. EA finally released the game as a free DLC to the owners of PlayStation only after the threat. 1 Like

#3 The " Detailed" Lies in Destiny Hey, who remembers that fantastic sci - fi, first - person MMORPG console shooter that was supposed to compete with World of Warcraft and was content enough to make players happy for the next ten years? Nobody? Well, Destiny was the game that promised this. That's right people, Destiny should last ten years. Whereas, it took just a couple of days for the game to reach it peak It had only a few raids. The planets were so scarce that I'd laugh if I weren't too busy crying about my wasted money. The supposed MMORPG had no auction house or even basic trading of players. Many players claimed that Destiny improved once it had some expansions. However, there have never been any of the basic problems Thanks to Kotaku's fantastically revealing exposé of the reality of making Destiny, we now know that the game was completely destroyed just months before its release. However, Bungie and Activision did not stop selling a lie to the general public, talking about how the game was so expansive, "every gun will have a story," even using footage from cutscens that included characters that were not seen in the final product. Destiny even opens with a character saying "you don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain," being on the nose when you realize what a fresh hell the development team has gone through. That doesn't change the reality of how much content wasn't present in Destiny's base game, as it would take a string of DLC packs and a solid year of patches and feedback from the community to make Bungie's latest a respectable investment. 2 Likes
