Maybe it's a lack of good tertiary institutions Ghanaian students find themselves overseas, or Nigerian presidents receiving medical care in London. Ever thought of that? wink
it is simply a hint for you to have idea of our living expenses , A cocoa farmer whose business is not formally represent has lots of cash to send his kids to an expensive university abroad , many Kenyans in formerlly legalized jobs can't try it.

Ghanaian tertiary institution is one of the best in africa , university of cape coast was recently rated 4th best in africa , well ranked than any Kenyan university . Having an international profile in CVs is very common among educationist here .

Ghana economy is informally driven , for you to understand what we earn here per day , you will be studying above minimum wages , you will need to factor in per capital income

Most of the labour's here are in informal sector . Some Accra market woman engaging in buying and selling makes more than 100 dollars profit a day ( particularly those in trades of clothes and jewelries ).

Informal sector workers don't make too much money, or pay taxes for that matter. Most have no access to banking. Your economy is a joke. Bunch of gold miners and market ladies basically.
those gold miners and market woman are much more richer than thousands of kenya in formal sector .

An ordinary cocoa farmer here has four of his kids in america university paying dollars with his earning from the cocoa product , that is how rich the informal sector can be, though government earn less taxes from them but nobody escape value added tax in Ghana .

First of.. Ghanaians earn far higher than Kenyans...

Secondly, we are picking retail prices of basic commodities of a bread basket.

So if I earn huger than you and I'm still buying things practically at lower prices than you, what will you call that?
it is even abnormal to used minimum wage has standard here . Ghana Labour market is highly influence by informal sector . More than 70 percent Ghanaian are in informal sector , more than kenya . Using apple against orange is what I don't get here. Very obtuse . It is just like Nigeria having a larger informal sector and yet with a lower wages .

The india wannabe wonder why you see Murano and wrangler here despite we earn just a dollar per day using 12 cedis as a standard of daily wages. Using GDP per capital has a standard . In 2017 Ghana has a minimum of 4700 why kenya has 3700. In simple terms , the economic rules simply illustrates that it is easy to make money in Ghana than kenya hence the poverty ratio of kenya being higher than Ghana

A barber in Ghana is absolutely doing well

KShs was said to be over-valued way back in 2019 I think - because it had stubborn stuck at 85-100.
CEDIS has depricated now to 157% - and there is no end in sight.
IMF deal unlikely until march earliest.
By then your economy will be dead like Sri Lanka.
What will stop the panic now? Who will restore confidence in CEDIS?
Now that IMF will take time.
I just slapped you with evidence that cedis is undervalued. Good you are not arguing with fact as S and P credit agency also indicates. Now let's talk about kenya shilling. moody further claim and attest to Imf in 2022 Your cbk knows even with just a dollar deprecation , your debt stock profile increases, your currency is managed to put the debt stock at minimum cus you already exceeded your borrowing chances. It is another corruption in your financial system . You already have a debt profile like Nigeria + A country five times bigger than you ) what madness.

We already have Imf and our gold by our sides., This is not a republic of tea and flower

I wish you can concentrate on the sick Cedis - because kenya and it's macro-economics are just pretty impressive. Currency, Inflation, Interest, name it are single digit. We only have problem with debt to gdp but it still below 70.

When it come to Kshs - CBK job has been to ensure stability of currency - if it to depreciate - it does so slowly - because you want to avoid Ghana like panic now. CBK use to intervene to buy and sell forex whenever there was problem on the commercial forex market. Now it has allowed KSH to depreciate to 120 - which was the goal - and it's been done gradually - 1shs every month almost the last two years. IMF wanted it done "immediately" and CBK disagree - and they said ohoo KSH is managed - not free floating.

Now explain to us why CEDIS has dropped - and dont hide behind other countries - because CEDIS as we speak is 150% down - and world worst currency - and all other indicators are screaming murder.

Kenya is doing great. Ghana is in a midst of big crisis. Dont project.
just shut up , imf and every other notable financial institution are saying you over value your shillings by 20 percent and I have further belive if well scrutinized, it is way more than that. Just like I said you only prolonged your suffering while Ghana is already dealing with her own. Your balloon debt stock profile , expenditure mismanagement like the unnecessary trainline network that wasn't giving enough return to pay back itself are all front pointer indicating you are not doing well , and all every macro economy indications indicate that . China has added another 11 million dollar into your debt profile for refusing to pay on time . This are all bad indicators .

""We now estimate the cedi to be over 15% undervalued. That said, even if a BoG [Bank of Ghana] course reversal on the FX purchase policy leads to a temporary reprieve, we expect USD/GHC to continue to trend weaken towards 15.5 by mid-2023. We remain on the sidelines due to the distortion of the FX market,” the analysis further said.

This a long diatribe that can be summarize in two sentence. Nobody trust the cedis because of it's history of hyperinflation. Your economy even when you re-dominated the cedis to 1:1 with dollar remain dollarized. Arresting dealers will make situation worse.

The solution is simple - watch your macro-economics - debt, soveirgn credit rating, inflation, interest rate - you dropped the ball and now Ghanians - both local/foreign investors - are racing to protect their money by dollarizing.

Kenya has no such history - apart from a brief period of six months in 1993 - when we moved from 20 to 60 to a dollar - now we are 120 - all those 60yrs.Therefore there is a lot of trust and confidence on Kshs. Your rarely see anything in kenya quoted in dollars - in fact it somewhat illegal to do that.

When it come to comparing kenya and Ghana - simple video of Nairobi or Mombasa or kisumu or Nakur or Eldoret is enough.

You see economic growth and progress is not found in data - it manifest itself.

When you go to Germany or Japan or US - you dont need to see their data to know it's doing well.

When I see Ghana - and I have seen lots of video - I see poverty, I see hawking on streets, I see almost informality everywhere, I see huge slumpolis without even single trees, I see Nigeria. I have seen both rural and urban places. I see farming that is almost stone age.

You can also see videos from youtubers who have gone to both Ghana and Kenya.
cedis was not depreciating as you might blindly suggest, it is the dollar that was used all over the world that was fast appreciating, it is not compliance of the cedis used set by bank of Ghana among banks in Ghana , the bureau the changes and all other financial institution couples with hoarding dollars in foreign exchange account. Kenya has country is facing large debt stock just as many country having their currency depreciated, therefore your shilling is likely overvalued . Same thing some country did. You are only prolonging your problem. Imf had already told you, your currency is overvalued by something of more than 20 percent and they are all reasons to belive it is more than that. With the cedis , they're many indication suggesting cedis is not at is real value and it is under value (I will provide an evidence ) it is too much unnecessary demanding for the dollars keeping the cedis down.

Dubai looks more beautiful in photos post than london , but nah , infrastructure wise , london is still way miles ahead . You check fact and data and not photos .

Nothing shows nairobi is better position than Accra , unless in your head . Let's used the indicator of life like electricity, water access and good road as yardstick .

Japanese yen or even Veitnam dong or South Korea won are STABLE. You dont see them depreciating yearly. In fact their problem is of no inflation.

You cannot talk about cost of living when you live in Zimbwabwe when currency has depreciated since independence by 150,000 to dollar now.

Kenya since independence - it's 120 to a dollar.

You cannot convince me that people income have risen by 3 times the last three months. Or 150,000 since independence.

Ghanians are wailing. You live in Zimbwabw or Zambia
It is simply because what drives economy is ain't about currency stability, it is way more than that.

A country with a weaker currency but with strong home based manufacturing company will surely feel no inch of it since most of the consumables goods are produced locally, therefore weaker currency become a means to acquired more earnings by exporting cheaper goods. One of the good reasons you will continue to see japan,South Korea and chinese goods in your shelves. But ours is opposite,we have a weaker currency with a weaker manufacture base.

We trade away cedis due to speculative individual who have decided to be in the business idea of buying and selling them instead of holding shares and selling them. Government are now closing down on bureau d change that operates without government approval. A more robust government support plan on manufacturing industry and a good evangelism of cedis trustworthiness will curb the crisis. We also need more industry here particularly in electronic and chips technology. We are spending more dollars for this.

You cannot compare a 4 billion dollar export and a nearly negative balance economy to that of Ghana 23 billion dollar export .it is madness to do so . Having dollars here isn't the problems, Our economy is not wanting at all. Once you valued the amount of dollar cash that fly away here against what we have here. You will be recording nothing less than 4 billion annually unlike your country trading at negative . It is either you are not doing anything at all or what you are doing ain't enough.

With my 14hundered thousand dollar to a cedis , I can still support my basic needs like food and water , electricity etc. What about you ? Or the people of tukana . Our northern capital Tamali will do well comparable to Nairobi if water and electricity alone are consider.

Kenyans are more poorer than Ghanaian . That is cut belt .

our issue with cedis is more of internal one ( speculative individual who used it for business and black market operator .you don't value the number of cash that buy Apple's but how much of that cash available to buy the Apple's. If we are buying dollar for another 14hundred thousand and we have billions equivalent of it in dollars that is what that matters . Yours is an emergency - a crisis - a mess - and you better get IMF.
Not every country is going through a crisis - China inflation is 2%.
Kenya has generally breezed through all sort of global economic crisis
The trick is diversifying the economy and building resilience.
We don't depend on one thing...and of course we watch our macro-economics better.
This year was terrible as we faced Ukraine, drought and election.
Now we are about done with drought & election went well - so that already given us a lift.
Inflation is coming down...
I expect from 9% - it will come down this month to 7 % - which is our immediate target.
And next year it will be back to sweat spot of 5%.
We generally need to improve a few things - reduce debt, free up economy for more competition (too many SOES) and etc.

For Ghana - boy - 140% inflation.
nah , you goofed boy, ours comes as result of global phenomenon like covid 19 ( same things that causes your debt unstablity and the internal government police like the financial clean up exercise . So you knew nothing. Your government was not doing enough In 2016 when he forcefully acquired three debt ridden banks , your bigger problem has been prosponed , Ghana is handling his own nah , that is just the difference .

Despite your stubbornness to fact that can be obtained from open source , you still fumbled. Chinese citizens will eat you alive for saying their price index hasn't changed of resent. If it is way lower than many developed nations like them , it doesn't changed the fact they are not under inflation , maybe well managed but the fact is they did not excaped it . When the whole world was at his knees during covid 19, Ghana cedis was performing best to the dollar , Ghana was giving free water to her citizens , lowering electricity cost for her citizens and so many social responsibility , if kenya try that , your country will bleed out . She is not in a financial position to rely on tea economy to drive such bill. nah , almost your entire population workforce are into agriculture , so what types of diversification are you talking about ? That is even bigger than Ghana entire population. So you aren't doing better than Togo bro. If you are borrowing at such alarming rate in which constitution was even thrown to the gutter to allowed for more debt profile. Borrowing beyond what you can pay. And china care less. they suddenly add another 11 million dollar to your debt for your failure to refuse paying up what you borrowed.
But if push comes to shove, what are you leaning on in kenya ,, Tea and flower , you must be mad .

We have billions if not trillions of dollars sitting in form of common dirt sands ( gold in our soil ) borrowing hasn't become a problem , the world is aware, it is it the ability to pay back on time . We are capable .

There are some major independent WATCH organization who are more than police into anything the government does in Ghana. So government understand the needs to lie less if not all .
