Science/TechnologyUs Embassy In Cairo Warns Egyptians Of Malware From North Korea by Veejaytv1(op): 10:35am On Jun 01, 2018
Cairo June 1, 2o18, (AltAfrika) – The US Embassy in Cairo issued a warning on Wednesday to internet users in Egypt, stating that the US government has identified malware from North Korea that may pose a risk to security in Egypt.

According to the warning, the US Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in collaboration with US government partners, have identified two strains of malware used by North Korean hackers, with Egypt being one of the countries where infected IP addresses have been registered.

“This type of malware may be managed by independent hackers who are not affiliated to the North Korean government for the purposes of collecting money from users after hacking their personal files,” Information Security technology expert Malek Saber told Egypt Independent on Thursday.

He further explained that this malware could be avoided through updating the versions of operating systems that are on every computer. Saber also called on Egypt’s Ministry of Communication to update the security system on the internet networks in Egypt.

In 2017, the Trump administration had publicly blamed North Korea for unleashing the so-called WannaCry cyber-attack that targeted hospitals, banks and other companies around the world at that time.

Abuja, June 1, 2018, (AltAfrika) – The Embassy of Austria in Nigeria has denied key staff of the Super Eagles’ workforce entry visa into their country for the team’s final phase camping programme billed to begin on Sunday.

Several months ago, the Nigeria Football Federation concluded arrangements with the world –renowned Avita Resort in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, for the Eagles to put finishing touches to their World Cup program there. They are billed to be there before flying to Yessentuki, the team base camp at the World Cup, on 11th June.
Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor confirmed to thenff.com that the lead physiotherapist, Nnaemeka Anozie and Equipment Manager, Chidi Ngoka, were denied visas by the Austrian Embassy in Abuja.

SportsMo Salah Should Make World Cup Final List, egypt Youth And Sports Minister by Veejaytv1(op): 7:59am On May 28, 2018
Egypt Youth and Sports Minister Khaled Abdel Aziz said that the diagnosis for Mohamed Salah’s injury is “instability in the shoulder joint ligaments”, and that the estimated duration of his treatment is two weeks.

In a post on his Facebook page, Aziz wrote that the medical team at Liverpool club contacted the medical team of the Egyptian football team and sent them X-rays, establishing an agreement on his treatment method.

It was also agreed that Salah would remain in Liverpool to receive proper treatment and rehabilitation, after which he would then join the Egyptian team camp in Italy at a later time determined by the doctors, Aziz said.

Aziz added that Salah would hopefully be in the final list of Egypt’s team at the World Cup, to be officially announced on June 4.

Science/TechnologyList Of Prominent Nigerian Women That Excel In Science And Research by Veejaytv1(op): 4:45pm On May 27, 2018
Nigeria women make up some good percentage of all science researchers.

In a male-dominated world of science there are unique women who excel, despite all odds against them, have made excellent achievements just as their male counterparts in various fields of the Sciences. Some of these female scientists are;

Professor Grace Alele-Williams

Professor Alele-Williams is a first at different levels of achievements. She is the first Nigerian female to earn a Ph.D. in Mathematics, the first female Professor of Mathematics, and the first female Vice Chancellor of a university in Nigeria.

Professor Alele-Williams received her university education at the University of Ibadan, the University of Vermont and University of Chicago, respectively.

Finding herself in the “space age”, which symbolized the era of stiff competition between the two major powers (the United States and the Soviet Union) over scientific discoveries, Alele-Williams increasingly developed interest in Mathematics in the US.

Professor Alele-Williams’ interest was further buoyed by her stint at the African Mathematics Program in Newton, Massachusetts, under the mentorship of MIT Professor Ted Martins.

Besides being a former Vice Chancellor, Alele-Williams has held different leadership positions in the development of Science education at local and international levels.

She was Chairman, Curriculum Review Committee in 1973 and a member of the Governing Council of UNESCO Institute of Education.

She held the position of Vice President of the World Organisation for Early Childhood Education and a Regional Vice President for Africa of the Third World Organization for Women in Science.

Alele-Williams received the National Honor of the Order of the Niger in 1987 and was a member of the Vision 2010 Committee.

Foreign AffairsEgypt’s Top Court Orders Temporary Suspension Of Youtube by Veejaytv1(op): 10:28am On May 27, 2018
An Egyptian court has ordered the suspension for one month of video-sharing website, YouTube, and others sharing a video found to be insulting the Muslim Prophet Mohammed.

The Supreme Administrative Court’s ruling on Saturday dismisses appeals against a similar 2013 ruling, including one by the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority which said the ruling’s application is not feasible.

Saturday’s verdict is final and cannot be appealed.

In 2012, the 14-minute trailer video titled “The Innocence of Muslims,” which appeared on YouTube, triggered protests across the Muslim world, including in Egypt.

The video can still be found on YouTube with a disclaimer saying it has been found “inappropriate or offensive to some audiences.”

It remains unclear whether the ruling will be enforced. YouTube has remained accessible as of yet.

PoliticsPresident Buhari’s Message On National Children’s Day, May 27, 2018 by Veejaytv1(op): 9:54am On May 27, 2018
Today affords me another opportunity to re-affirm our Administration’s commitment to the protection of children, a day to reflect on our roles and responsibilities as Parents and Leaders towards our children, and also assessing how far we have fared in this regard.

As you may recall, one of the cardinal objectives of this Administration is the provision of quality education to our children as a fundamental foundation of economic and social development. In this regard, I am pleased to inform you that this Administration has recorded measurable success in the home grown school feeding programme as it has continued to expand.

Our children are our future, and the initiatives that come from them give confidence that our country has a bright future.

I am always inspired and encouraged when I remember encounters I had with three of our young ones. When I was on medical vacation in 2017, three year old Maya Jammal recorded a prayer for my recovery, which went viral online.

Also, 10 year old Aisha Aliyu Gebbi wrote a personal letter to me, describing herself as my “biggest fan”.

Nicole Benson, then 12 years old, had contributed the sum of Five Thousand, Seven Hundred Naira and Eighty-Five kobo (N5,700.85) to my campaign in 2015. The money was all saved up from her lunch and pocket allowance. There are millions of such children nationwide.

PoliticsNigeria: Ptad Uncovers 24,021 Ghost Retirees From Fg’s Pension Payroll by Veejaytv1(op): 9:22am On May 27, 2018
The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has detected 24,021 ghost retirees from the payroll of the Federal Government. PTAD is the government agency in charge of the pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme.

Although the agency did not disclose the monetary value of the amount already lost to these ghost workers, it however said the discovery of this monumental fraud had led to a reduction in the amount paid as monthly pensions by the Federal Government

“Payment between March and April dropped due to the suspension of 24,021 pensioners that did not come forward for the verification between 2015 and 2018.”

In its monthly report to the Ministry of Finance, the directorate mentioned some of the key achievements and performance on its pension payments for April.

After it concluded its nationwide verification of federal retirees, PTAD said it added 7,969 civil service pensioners to its payroll to receive monthly pension payments.

It noted that these pensioners were verified in the South West and North Central in Q4 2017 and have been paid their March 2018 pension.
