FamilyRe: All You Need To Know About Gonorrhoea—THEHEALTHYMAIL by veekthoor(op): 4:37pm On Aug 08, 2018
In reply to a mail from a reader
Hi, @thehealthymail

I read y the post on NL about gonorrhoea, WHAT ARE THE DRUGS FOR TREATING GONORRHOEA?

Dear Reader

We're delighted to hear from you, We appreciate your feedback.
There are a lot of combination drugs out there that maybe used in the treatment of the disease and each of the combinations work differently for everyone.

But first things first, if you are experiencing any symptoms, the first step to take is to seek advice from your doctor before going to any pharmacy to pick up a drug.

He will suggest a test (the test may involve physical examinations, urinal test, anal test ,vaginal/utheral swab)

Make sure also that your current sexual partner does takes the test also even if the person might not be experiencing any symptoms (If only one partner gets treated, the other party could easily infect the already treated person ).

Ensure that you strictly follow the treatment administered by the doctor and abstain from further sexual activities for the meantime .
HealthGonorrhoea 101—THEHEALTHYMAIL by veekthoor(op):
Have you heard your mates or home-girls screaming while taking a piss in the John?it's very likely they have a date with Gonorrhoea.

Gonorrhoea or clap, is an STD caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

It can cause infection in the throat, the penis, the rectum, the vagina and less commonly the eyes.

You  can get  the clap through practically all forms of contact sex between two people.

It is one of the oldest known STDs, there's   whole lot of evidence  in the old testament and ancient Egyptian text.

Gonorrhoea is the second most common STD in the UK after Chlamydia accounting for about 55% of all the cases of STD in the UK.

How can you Contract Gonorrhoea ?

The germ responsible for gonorrhoea can get into your  system  through a variety of sex acts including

1.Vaginal sex
2.Anal sex
3.MouthAction
4.Sharing of unwashed intimacy gadgets

Using intimacy gadgets after your mate or your girlfriend without washing or at least putting a condom over it isn't a good idea.

Through the birth canal of infected mothers
Babies born to infected mothers are susceptible to this form of transmission of the  infection.

Men who have unprotected vaginal sex with infected women have a 20% chance of getting infected from a single act of sexual intercourse.

While women have a 60 to 80% chance of getting infected from a single act of unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected man.

Men who have sex with infected men may get anal or penile gonorrhoea depending on the roles they play during sex.

How do I know I have gonorrhoea ?

Symptoms of Gonorrhoea

Most symptoms of gonorrhoea appear 6 to 10 days after infection by the bacteria.

Five out of ten women infected with gonorrhoea do not show any symptoms, the other half show a variety of symptoms that will be discussed here.

Men on the other hand almost always show the symptoms of gonorrhoea. Gonorrhoea of the throat contracted through MouthAction has no symptoms   in 90% of the cases, however, when it is symptomatic, the only symptom is a sore throat.

Common signs and symptoms of gonorrhoea include;

1.A white, yellow or green discharge from the penis.

2.Pain in the testicles, often accompanied by swelling of the testicles

3.Burning sensation when urinating, this symptom is common in both men and women and is, in fact, this is the most common symptom of gonorrhoea.

4.Increased vaginal discharge.

5.Vaginal bleeding outside the normal monthly period.

6.Even a sore throat.

7.Pain in the lower abdomen.

8.Pain with sexual intercourse.

9.Vaginal discharge which may be green or yellow in colour.

10.Bleeding in the vagina after sex.

11.Inflammation of the penile foreskin.

12.Conjunctivitis when infected semen or vaginal fluids come in contact with the eyes.

13.Discharge from the rectum.

14.Anal itching.

15.Soreness in the rectum.

16.Bleeding from the anus.

17.Painful bowel movement.

18.It is possible for persons infected with gonorrhoea to have an allergic response to the bacterial agent of gonorrhoea this greatly exaggerates the symptoms of the infection and may even lead to complications and misdiagnosis .

If the infection is in an advanced  stage, the patient may generally feel  tired which may be  confused with other diseases.

Prevention, Treatment and control of gonorrhoea

The sheer fact that this STD has existed for so long implies that there are time tested and tried ways of preventing, controlling and treating it.

Prevention of gonorrhoea

Correct use of a condom
You can prevent   gonorrhoea  by following standard  preventive measures for STD's, chiefly by the correct  use of condoms

However, the fact that it is transmitted through a lot of sex acts means that extra care should be taken to prevent its transmission.

You may prevent  the infection  by

1.Being in a mutually monogamous sexual relationship with an uninfected person.

2.Going for tests before restarting sexual activities if you’ve been infected before.

3.Using a condom to cover the penis before MouthAction

4.Using a latex or plastic square dam to cover the female genitals before MouthAction.

5.Not sharing intimacy gadgets or washing them before they are used by any other person

6.Covering shared intimacy gadgets with condoms before use.

7.Going for tests before starting a sexual relationship with a new partner.

Treatment and control of gonorrhoea

Antibiotics for gonorrhoea
You can  cure the  clap, albeit with the right treatment usually antibiotics which will be prescribed by your physician.

There is a particular strain of gonorrhoea which cannot be cured with any commercially available antibiotics.

The good news, however, is that this strain is very rare, so rare in fact that only a single case of it has been reported in the UK. Hopefully, a cure  will be made available soon.

It should be noted that having being cured of gonorrhoea previously doesn't confer any form of immunity against it.

The gonorrhoea germ will happily infect you again if you expose yourself to it.

It is in your  best interest to  go for  a retest after a treatment for the infection before restarting your sexual activities to protect your partners.

All your sexual partners within the period of diagnosis with the infection should be tested ,to preclude their chances of reinfecting you after you've been successfully treated.

Babies born to mothers with gonorrhoea  infection are usually treated with antibiotics at birth, this prevents blindness that may be caused by the infection  at infancy.

Complications of a gonorrhoea infection

You should seek professional medical advice when you have symptoms you suspect to be of the clap, so as to start treatment early given that if you don't  treat the infection, it could cause a number of health complications including

1.Infertility in women

2.Sterility in men

3.Blockage of  the fallopian tube

4.Ectopic pregnancy

5.Increased chances of getting or giving someone HIV

6.Miscarriage

7.Premature labour

8.In extremely rare cases, gonorrhoea can spread to the blood and cause serious infections in other parts of the body
The more times you have gonorrhoea, the more likely it is for you to have these complications.

Myths about gonorrhoea

If I don't show symptoms then I don't have gonorrhoea
This couldn't be further from the truth, a lot of people with a gonorrhoea infection don't show any symptoms.
Go for  a test ,if any of your sexual partners find out that they have  the clap.

You have to engage in penetrative sex in order to contract gonorrhoeaThis is simply false.
You can get the infection  from  almost all forms of intimate sexual acts including MouthAction,It is advised that you protect yourself properly with condoms or latex dams before being engaged in MouthAction with an untested sexual partner.

Only people who have a lot of sexual partners can get gonorrhoea
As much as this sounds reasonable to a lot of persons, it's just not how gonorrhoea works.

Gonorrhoea is gotten from sexual intercourse with infected parties no matter how many times you’ve had sex. It can even be contracted from sharing intimacy gadgets with infected persons.

Oral contraception can prevent gonorrhoea
This is so wrong it's almost comical, oral contraceptives prevent only pregnancy. In fact, condoms are the only contraceptives that can prevent STDs.

Once you have had gonorrhoea you can't get it again

We all wish that gonorrhoea behaves this way sadly, it isn't true. You contract it when you have unprotected sex with an infected person, no matter how many times you've been treated.

Sometimes, you can get gonorrhoea even a day after being treated for gonorrhoea. It's advised that you protect yourself from gonorrhoea at all times by using appropriate protection.

Gonorrhoea is more common than you think,  screening and treatment are free through the NHS at Genitourinary medicine or Sexual health clinics in the UK.

Always consult your physician if you suspect gonorrhoea.

7 Common Breastfeeding Problems and Remedy

Breastfeeding is supposed to be an awesome activity, calming and relaxing for both you and your baby but we all know that is just wishful thinking.

1.
Cracked Nipples

Do you feel pain while you're breastfeeding?Try checking if your nipples are cracked this might be the problem. What causes this? Most likely dry skin or maybe your baby is not latching properly and might have caused you and injury in the process .

Remedy

Try to position your baby in such a way that the lower part of your areola and the nipple is covered by the baby's mouth instead of above the nipple.

2.Plugged Ducts

Good news you are producing a good amount of milk, but it's quite painful
We 've already talked about this; When your ducts are clogged , the area of skin/ tissues around the ducts get swollen and presses on the ducts causing you pain.

Remedy

Just increase the number of times you breastfeed, the flow of milk should free up the clogging. But before breastfeeding apply a hot towel on the breast or take a warm shower this would help soften the breast tissue.

3.Mastitis

Are you a nursing mum and you are feeling feverish or some aches .This is not a symptom of the flu as you might think. You have a bacterial infection most likely from a cracked nipple.

Remedy

Antibiotics are required to treat the bacterial infection but please meet your doctor

4.Thrush

If your breasts are itchy or sore or you notice some rashes in them, this is a symptom of a yeast infection and you most likely got it from your sweet little baby!!

Remedy

You should both(mother and child) visit the doctor for treatment. If only one of you gets treated the untreated person may still pass it on to the treated person.

5.High Milk Supply

This should be a good thing right? but that's not the case. Your breasts are so full of milk that they swell up,this makes it difficult for the baby to catch the nipples and that's a big problem.

Remedy

If you notice that your breast are too full, try to pump out some milk .You can do this by gently squeezing your breast with your thumbs it or use a pump just before you breast feed.
Your swollen breasts should reduce a bit provide some area for your baby to catch on easily.

6.Your baby just falls asleep

There's no cause for alarm (though your baby might be innocently starving grin)

Remedy
As soon as you notice your baby falling asleep, just squeeze your breast to increase the flow of milk and your baby will by instinct will start sucking.
The sudden flow of milk is like reminder( hey!! wake up I am trying to feed you)

7.BITING

If your baby tries to or actually bites you while breastfeeding
WARNING!!! Do not pull away,if you do(YOU WILL SURELY SCREAM!)

WHAT TO DO :Instead of pulling away like your mind will tell you, push the baby closer using your breast to cover his nose and Voila!! the baby will let go in order to breath

You would be surprised how many people are not aware
FamilySHOCKING!! Germs Are (kind Of) Good For Your Children—THE HEALTHY MAIL by veekthoor(op):
The popular advice -wash your hands!  might  be unhealthy  for your child as there might be a link between  germs and prevention of leukemia.

It seems that our trendy germ free life style is the cause of ALL(Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) in children.

According to a study by Professor Mel Greaves with 30 years of proof pointing out how a germ-free immune system (both human and livestock)

during the early developmental stages of life can be more susceptible to leukemia.

This discovery actually means that ALL a common type of blood cancer in children is highly preventable.

The good professor further states that the disease has three stages grin:

1.Unpredictable genetic mutations within the uterus.

2.The lack of germs during 0-1 year of the infant's life , prevents the body from learning how to deal with infections .

3.Infections recurring and causing immune fail or malfunction.

Professor Greaves further states that the research suggests that ALL(Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia ) a cancer of the blood is clearly from a biological cause

and is triggered by a range of infections in children with underdeveloped immune systems.

Evidence that helped build the case

1.Breastfeeding This helps promote healthy gut bacteria thereby exposing the infant to bacteria thus reducing chances of developing leukemia.

2.Animals that were bred under pristine conditions seemed to develop leukemia easily, compared to others raised in a dirtier environment.

3.Natural birth exposes infants to germs, so children delivered naturally will less likely develop leukemia, compared to others delivered through cesarean.  .

 4. Children  have lower chances of having leukemia if they have older siblings who play with them, thus exposing  them to  germs .

"The purpose of this study is not to condone filth and unhygienic practices

but to increase the chances of preventing leukemia in children

by administering a safe, helpful combination of bacteria to children."said Professor  Greaves.

This will help build up and train their immune system though the idea remains open for further research and development.

Dr Alasdair Rankin, the director of research at the blood cancer charity -BLOODWISE, said "We should not to be  afraid of this study."

"since there is no known prevention for ALL and that it would be  beneficial to build a tough immune system.

So folks let us embrace germs(in a good way) in order to stay healthy.

Remember, good health is cheap, disease is expensive.

Here is a mail we from Nenye (not her real name)

Hi @healthymail,
I read your your recent post about breastfeeding and the various benefits for both child and the nursing mum. But for me the case has been different for the past few days and breastfeeding is not as easy as you make it.

The past 3 days has been really painful for me,i noticed a red area on not one but both of my breasts. It hurts even when I am not breastfeeding my baby.

Reply
Hello Nenye,
Thank you for your feedback, It means a great deal to us. Now the problem you are facing maybe due to

1. A plugged duct
2.breast infection
3.cracked nipples

The plugged duct may be due to the enlargement of the breast suggesting that your baby is not sucking much milk, causing an accumulation in the ducts

The cracked nipples -- when your baby is not suckling properly or due to the way the mouth is structured

Breast infection(mastitis) -- this may be caused by any of the above two problems when left untreated

SOLUTION

1 .Change your bra -- go for nursing bras if you are not using one

2.Gently massage the area where you noticed the inflammation (reddish spot)

3.Try bathing with hot water(not the type for making eba)..it should help soften the area

4. Also in case it's an infection.. Try to bump up your intake of vitamin C. ( oranges are a good source) to boost your immunity against the infection.

5. Lastly a home remedyfor the inflammation - try placing cabbage over the area(my grandma said it worked for her).

If you try any of these for three days and still no relieve please I beg you, go visit your doctor

FamilyWhy Do Some Mothers Refuse/fear To Breastfeed?—THEHEALTHYMAIL by veekthoor(op):
Did you know ? that breastfeeding you new baby within the first hours of life can greatly improve your child's chance of being a healthy human being( now you know)

According to the UN ,an estimated 78 million newborns have a higher risk of death each year from not drinking their mother's milk within the first hours of being born, .

The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, the UN children's agency, have published a convincing report after observing mothers in about 76 developing -type countries.

The report shows statistics that two out of five babies are breastfed immediately after being born with East and Southern Africa women having the majority , East Asia and the Pacific women have the minority in this case.
"Each year, millions of newborns miss out on the benefits of early breastfeeding and we are to blame for this," said Henrietta Fore ,executive director of UNICEF .

Reasons for the Low First Hour Breastfeed Rate

1.Lack of support from the medical personnel at the health facilities.

2.Practices like -- throwing away the mother's first milk and feeding the infant with formula.

3.Increase in the amount of caesarean births.

4.In Africa, traditional beliefs and illiteracy are a major issue.

Earlier studies show how delaying breastfeeding between two and 23 hours increases an infant's risk of dying by 33 percent. Among newborns who started breastfeeding a day or more after birth, the risk was more than twice as high.

Colostrum, the first milk produced by mothers, is very nutritious and helps prepare the baby's digestive tract for breast-milk digestion.

BENEFITS OF BREASTFEEDING

1.Breast-milk is the perfect infant formula for your baby-it contains vitamins, protein, fat and everything nice.

2. Strengthens the baby's immune system as breast milk contains antibodies that helps in fighting diseases

3.Faster weight loss after pregnancy(breast-milk contains about 20 calories per ounce, so do the math)

4.Reduces risk of breast cancer, so the longer you breast feed your infant the better for you.

5.Research shows that breastfed babies become smarter children.

6.Breast feeding improves the bond between a mother and baby.

7.Lowers the baby's risk of having asthma or allergies.

8.It can also help mothers relax.

9.Its really cheaper to breastfeed .

In the report, UNICEF and WHO urge governments to adopt strong legal measures to restrict the marketing of infant formula and other breast-milk substitutes.

Call to Action!: Let's actively support our loved ones (sisters, mothers, wives ,colleagues) to breast feed both at home and public places.

UNICEF recommend that babies should be exclusively breastfed up to an age of six months, after which they can begin incorporating some food and other liquid into their diet alongside breastfeeding.

HealthSaliva test for detection of prostrate cancer —THE HEALTHY MAIL by veekthoor(op):
Saliva swab for genetic test trials

Trials are ongoing for a saliva test to determine a the risk of prostate cancer in men.

Prostrate cancer a major cause of death due to cancer in men.

Presently has no reliable test for the detection, the common methods used include

1.psa blood test
2.biopsies
3.physical examinations

all of the above mentioned cases do not always work out as intended (false results) and may not detect the cancer at an early stage thus decreasing survival rates.

The new saliva test though currently in early trial stage will greatly increase chances of detecting prostate cancer early

and thus take the required treatment which would improve survival chances unlike the normal biopsies and psa tests which may come out inconclusive.

A team of scientists with the Institute of cancer research in London came up with the spit test from their study and research.

The scientist studying more than 100,000 men using a new DNA analysis technique found 63 new high risk gene variant that were not previously associated with prostate cancer .

The DNA test combines these new variants with more than 100 other previously known variants that can increase the risk of prostate cancer.

Ros Eeles, professor of oncogenetics at the ICR, explains,”By studying DNA codes of more than 100,000 men very closely,

we have uncovered vital new information about the genetic factors that can increase your chance of being affected by prostate cancer,”

and more importantly these information from more than 150 genetic variants can now combined to conclusively find out if you at a higher risk of being affected by prostate cancer or not.

after which those men found to be at higher risk of prostate cancer would then go for scans and have a prostate biopsy.

The professor further said in a statement.

“We now hope to begin a small study to determine if genetic testing using a simple spit test could pin-point high-risk men who might benefit early detection of the disease”.

Currently three hundred men are taking part in the trials, from three London GP surgeries, and may expand to reach about five thousand men in 2019

The study was published in the journal Nature Genetics and was funded by the National Cancer Institute in the US, with support from the European Research Council, Cancer Research UK and Prostate Cancer UK.

This research is aims to provide more efficient means of early detection of prostate cancer in men.

HealthCannabis As Cure For Pancreatic Cancer— THE HEALTHY MAIL by veekthoor(op):
Googling  for the uses of cannabis ,your top results may border along recreational purposes    and certainly  not  as a  cure for  pancreatic cancer  as suggested by this new scientific study.

The Pancreas

The pancreas is one of  the  many organs in the  body. It is a spongy  and tube- like, located   just  behind the stomach.

It's  job is to secrete digestive  enzymes  and   hormones  like secretin  and insulation  for endocrinal functions

Pancreatic  Cancer

pancreas with malignant tissues
This type of cancer reportedly has some of the lowest survival rates.Malignant cells develop  in the pancreas  preventing the pancreas from performing  as expected.

A recent study in mice suggests that a substance - cannabidiol, a naturally occurring cannabis compound could help remedy the problem.

CBD oil and cannabis plant Researchers are hopeful  that  the use of cannabidiol   in treatment will improve survival rates  for the cancer patients.

Treatment

This type of cancer is treated by  removal of  affected tissue  in addition to  chemo but yet survival rate is still very poor.

Research

Researchers from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in the United Kingdom, and from Curtin University have conducted a study on a mouse model of pancreatic cancer, and come up with really  interesting findings.

The goal of the research—   to find out how cannabidiol (CBD) — a naturally occurring component of medical cannabis — alongside chemotherapy medication would improve survival chances  of pancreatic cancer patients.

The researchers focused on the potential of CBD rather than another cannabis compound, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), because the former does not cause psychoactive effects.

In the study  the researchers worked with a mouse model of pancreatic cancer, which they treated with CBD  in combination with "Gemcitabine"-a chemotherapy drug.

Findings

From the experiment ,the mice treated with cannabidiol  and chemo survived almost three times as long as mice from a control group treated  with just chemotherapy.

"This is a remarkable result," says Prof. Falasca  -member of the research team, adding, "We found that mice with pancreatic cancer survived nearly three times longer if a constituent of medicinal cannabis was added to their chemotherapy treatment."

"The life expectancy for pancreatic cancer patients has barely changed in the last 40 years because there are very few, and mostly only palliative care, treatments available,"

The findings of this research  has  greatly improved  the  already gaining approval  of  CBD by the health  authorities in UK.

If further studies show that CBD is effective in improving cancer treatment, this could mean that doctors will be able to use it in cancer clinics immediately.

CBD  Human Trials?

"Cannabidiol is gaining approval for use in clinics, which means we can go on with human clinical trials," says Prof. Falasca.

In addition  to the exciting results from the study, the researchers are hopeful that human trials will produce similar  results.

Lastly  how the  combination of cannabidiol and chemo   greatly reduces common side effects of chemo including nausea, pain, and vomiting.
