Former Vice President and the Presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has been formally turbaned the 7th Waziri of Adamawa Emirate.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the position of Waziri makes the former Vice President next to the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo, in hierarchy in the emirate.

Speaking at the occasion, the Lamido of Adamawa, said Atiku was honoured with the title of Waziri because of his immense contributions to the development of Nigeria, particularly Adamawa State, where his impact was felt in various sectors.

“Atiku has also contributed greatly to unifying the people of Adamawa and providing useful advise to the emirate.

“The position of Waziri, which is the highest in the council puts him in charge of administration of the emirate and is given to people who are educated, honest and God fearing.

“It’s not hereditary and can go to anyone who deserves it.”

While urging the new Waziri to continue to carry everyone along and unite the people of Adamawa for more development, Barkindo urged all other traditional title holders to and cooperate with the new Waziri.

In his remarks, President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by the FCT Minister, Musa Bello, congratulated Atiku for the esteemed position given him and wished him a successful reign.

Also speaking, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, commended Lamido for upgrading Atiku from Turaki to Waziri, adding that Atiku would surely not disappoint the emirate.

“I assure you that he will carry out his tasks with dignity, respect, honour and you will be proud of him,” Obasanjo said.

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has said the time was up for President Buhari.

He accused Buhari of not caring enough for Nigerians.

Heir to the British throne, Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, are in now in Nigeria as part of their tour of West Africa.

A tweet by the Clarence House broke the news.

The tweet reads, “Their Royal Highnesses have arrived in Nigeria as they continue their Royal Tour of West Africa.”


The tweet also shows a video of His Royal Highness inspecting a guard of honour while the British National Anthem was being played.

Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday killed one Alhaji Nasiru Maimasara and kidnapped his daughter at Gachi quarters in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Sources told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the incident occurred at about 2 a.m., on Tuesday.

“When the gunmen invaded the area, they started shooting sporadically, while moving to the victims’ residence at Gachi quarters,” the source told NAN, pleading anonymity.

“The bandits shot the victim when he attempted to run, and went away with his daughter.

“The victim was later taken to Kankia General Hospital where he was confirmed dead,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Maimasara’s corpse has been buried, while the house was filled with sympathizers when a NAN correspondent arrived there at noon.

Mr Gambo Isa, spokesman of the Police Command in Katsina, who confirmed the incident, described it as unfortunate.

Isa said that the command was making efforts to apprehend the bandits.

“We have deployed personnel from the State Investigation Bureau(SIB), and Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad(FSARS) to track down the culprits,” he told NAN.
