Business / I Won’t Let Guarantee Trust Bank Rest Until They Pay Me My stolen Money-Blogger by ventnaija: 6:44am On Nov 27, 2014

Here's what Moji Delano a Nigerian blogger says she encountered with GTB. She actually sent the story in. Please read...

Before the 31st day of October 2014, Guarantee Trust Bank-GTB could do no wrong in my eyes.

I prided them as being one of the most customer friendly banks who pay attention to detail and customer satisfaction, though many people I know argued otherwise. My friends argued that GTB has become very comfortable because of their large customer base, and have now taken a lot for granted. I always defended my ‘favourite’ bank because I truly believed that GT was indeed a fantastic and customer friendly bank. Continue...

But alas, I was wrong. Very wrong. My bitter personal experience with the bank is what I want to address in this post and also send a clear message to the bank that it WILL NEVER BE OK, to take any customer regardless of who they are for granted.

On the 31st of October 2014, around 11pm to be precise I tried pay for an Aero Contractors Ticket. I have always chosen to pay through GT PAY via the GT online platform because I trusted that if I had any issues during the process, my money will be refunded, and in good time too. But on that fateful day, after filling in all the necessary details, including the 6 digit code generated from my token, I got the message ‘INVALID TOKEN CODE’. I thought it was just an error so I tried it again. On trying it again the same thing happened. Eventually, I thought it wise to call customer care to complain about the token, since I had no prior issues with it that day.

On calling customer care, the token’s irregularity was fixed and then I tried to pay again. This time around the transaction was successful, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Unknown to me however, my money was deducted for the two previous attempts before the successful transaction. I didn’t get any alert immediately to this effect, and it wasn’t until I tried to purchase credit with my GT app that I noticed the irregularity in my account. Instead of Sixteen Thousand, Five Hundred and Ten Naira (N16, 510), a total sum of Forty-Nine Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty Naira (N49, 530) was deducted from my account. Simply put, my money was deducted for the two initial false transactions.

I didn’t panic, because I was glad at that point I paid through GTB. I thought my money will be refunded within 24 hours, at most 48 hours, and to ensure this, I put a call to customer care immediately to lodge a complaint. This was way past midnight already.

The Customer Care Representative I spoke to apologised and explained that on the 31st of every month, the GT Bank online system resets automatically and corrects errors etc for the end of the month’s transactions. This I was told happens between the hours of 11pm and 2pm (or thereabout) every last day of the month. While this is going on, errors, false deductions etc could take place, and the system post-dates the transaction to the next working day. As a result, whatever error or discrepancy will be taken to have occurred on the following working day and sorted in that line. I was also made to understand that as a result of the system reset, my transaction was post-dated to November 3rd, the next working day. I was advised to wait till the end of the next working day before lodging another complaint.

Against the backdrop of the explanation I was given, I waited till Tuesday before calling back. On doing so, I was told my complaint had been noted and transferred to the appropriate quarters for the matter to be looked into, and I should wait for 48 hours. I did.

Few days later I called again after I heard nothing, to lodge another complaint. I was told to be patient that my money will be refunded ‘soon’.

Few days turned to one week, one week to two. In between I was calling customer care, which was a very harrowing experience. I called customer care more than 10 times, during which I would sometimes have to wait endlessly to speak to an agent. Sometimes after waiting for ages, the agent picks up and the line disconnects, perhaps due to network. I would have to go through the rigour of calling again, and waiting endless to speak to another agent, only to be told in the same monotonous tone: “Your complaint has been forwarded to the right channel to work on it and your money will be refunded soon.” When I ask “How soon is soon?” They always replied: “We can’t give an exact date but they will work on it.” This response and the attitude of some of the agents I spoke to made me wonder if it wasn’t my hard earned money in question.

Two weeks after continuously calling and complaining, I got an alert from GTBANK, a refund alert. But before I could heave a sigh of relief, I found that it was just half of the money deducted that was refunded. From that point I had to start calling customer care again, and going through the same strenuous process. After about one week and nothing had been done, I decided to go to the GTBank at Bode-Thomas where I do most of my transactions. I complained to the customer care agent in charge and she said my money will be refunded soon. More than a week later, no refund, no message or anything of that sort informing me of the status quo.

In the wee hours of Tuesday-25th November 2014, I called customer care again-for the last time. After relating my case to the agent, he told me as usual: “I can see that your complaint has been forwarded to the right channel and it will be sorted out soon.” “How soon is soon?” I asked. “I cannot give you a specific time.” Same old story.

At this point I’m very upset and this is way more than N16, 510. I can’t help but wonder:
* Why I need to call customer care with my own money in the first place? In a civilised country, callingcustomer care should be FREE. It’s more than ridiculous that a bank like GTBank, with one of the biggest customer base in the country feels the need to rip off their customers by charging them exorbitantly when they call customer care. What about people who can’t afford to spend ridiculous amounts to call customer care, don’t they deserve to be catered to?
* Why I should be deprived unjustly of my ‘hard earned money’, without any sign of remorse from a bank where I operate 4 functioning accounts including domiciliary, and do more than 90% of my money related transactions;
* I can’t help but wonder If the extra N33,020 was all I had in all my accounts, and I need for instance: to pay for my tuition fees or forfeit my admission, pay for my medical bills, or even feed, what would have happened in the last one month that my money has been cruelly held on too;
* I can’t understand why when you call GT customer care, and after waiting endlessly the phone disconnects, the agent can’t call back?
* I can’t understand, why many of the customer care agents I spoke to seemed tired of their job, and answer in the most lacklustre manner?
* I can’t comprehend why after almost a month, no one feels the need to update me on how the issue is being handled;
* I don’t understand why in the first place I need to be deprived of my money for one month.

Companies like GTBank need to understand that every customers’ issue or complaint rich, poor or average should be treated with utmost priority. That the bank now has a huge customer base is not enough to get comfortable and treat some customers poorly. At every point in every reputable company, CUSTOMER CARE SHOULD BE PRIORITY.

At this point I will also like to say unequivocally, that GTBank no longer owes me N16,510. The bank owes me more. Apart from refunding my money, I expect a refund for the numerous calls to customer care and the stress of going to the bank to no avail, as well as compensation for the stress I’ve put through. In countries where the legal system works more accurately, GTB will by now be swimming in law suits, real and frivolous, because many aggrieved customers are not being properly attended to. I’m sure I’m not the only customer experiencing this and I base my conclusion on a recent survey I did inspired by the way my matter is being handled. Ripping people off (No matter how little), yet using their money to run their business is very unfair and unjust.

Be it billions, millions or thousands deposited, the bank is doing no customer a favour, instead it’s the other way round. The experts at GT I’m sure know the importance of every type of customer, hence their concentration on retail banking.

This is how I have being shabbily treated by a Bank I held very highly, and spoke very passionately about in the past. I have been treated ‘like I don’t matter, like my patronage means nothing’.

Let me add also that I am a qualified lawyer, and I know what to do from this point if my complaints and request are not promptly and properly attended to. I will not be bullied, because I know my rights.

I may not be Femi Otedola or Dangote, but I am a good and respectable customer. Hence I will not rest until I get an apology and the proper refund that I deserve.

Thank You.

Folks, grab a sit and get ready for some history lesson. This weeks interview of "The Truth" with Olisa Adibua is with none other than Afro beat legend and the original Mr. Shoki himself - Femi Anikulapo-Kuti. In true legendary fashion, Femi takes us back in time as he shares some of his most intimate thoughts about the challenges of growing up as Fela's son, his love for music, family and politics. We've probably not seen a more open, intimate and riveting recountal of his dad, Fela, and what he stood for as an artist and an advocate of the common people. He dished and over dished on this episode that we had to split this episode in two parts. We were honoured to host Femi and we hope that you guys enjoy this as much as we did.

As always, feel free to leave a comment or two for Femi and don't forget to subscribe.

Celebrities / Nairaland Founder Oluwaseun Osewa Gets Richer by ventnaija: 12:40pm On Jan 06, 2014

His main goal was to be the Mark Zuckerberg of Nigeria. Hence the site was launched 14 months after Facebook. The site took off after a slow start and Nairaland now has over 1 million registered users and is the most popular Nigerian website today.
Forbes Magazine took note of Osewa's initiative and recognized the young brilliant Nigerian mind in 2013 as best African entrepreneurs under 30.

"I decided to start Nairaland when I noticed two odd things about MobileNigeria:

(1) Despite its narrow focus, it was the only Nigerian community that gave a voice to Nigerians at home. Most other Nigerian sites were owned and dominated by Nigerians in the US or UK. They covered only issues of interests to Nigerians abroad.

(2) The off topic section of the forum, covering topics outside telecoms, like romance and jokes, was becoming more vibrant than the Mobile Nigeria Forum itself, suggesting the need for a more general-purpose Nigerian forum.

This gave me the confidence to take forums like Naijaryders and Talknaija head on by starting a general purpose discussion forum with a strong bias towards issues of interest to Nigerians at home. I felt that such a site could attract enough traffic to make enough money from Google adverts. That’s why I started the Nairaland Forum" said Oluwaseun Osewa
Nairaland has done well. It is the seventh most visited sites in Nigeria after Google, Facebook, Yahoo, YouTube and .

Osewa shared his vision for the next five years on Nairaland against his mentor site Facebook. "If I got 5 naira every time a developer offered to help me make Nairaland like Facebook, I would be rich enough to buy the moon!

But here’s the thing. You can’t beat Facebook. even if your website is perfect. Social networks benefit from ‘network effects’, which means the bigger they are, the better the experience. Facebook has grown so big that the only thing other social networks can do is die. MySpace, Hi5, and even Google’s social network (Orkut), and Microsoft’s Live Spaces have been beaten and are still losing members every day. If Google and Microsoft can’t beat them, I don’t think I should waste my time.

There’s an element of Facebook I’d like to incorporate, though. The ‘social graph’. It’s the reason why Facebook can have 500m users on the same site and yet, unlike most big forums, doesn’t feel over-crowded. The social graph approach scales so well."
So good things do come from Nigeria and No headlines or news media overseas will stream Oluwaseun Osewa's story except osaseye. People tend to add to the Growing negative perception about Nigeria in the world

Celebrities / My Husband & Family Are In Support Of My Nude Pictures - Maheeda Claims by ventnaija: 10:00am On Jan 05, 2014

In an interview with maheeda she says her husband is aware of her nudes ,she is still born-again and friends with Donjazzy, Olamide and Phyno.

She further said: "I know what I am doing. The pictures are not targeted at anything. It is all about attention and there is no mistake about it. This business of music is called show business and I am convinced I am on the right track. I owe no apologies. I just realised this way will be a faster hit than any other way. The pictures are working for me.As you can see, there’s so much attention on me. All of a sudden, people want to listen to my old singles and are looking forward to my debut album. In this life, everybody gets criticised whether you do good or bad. I have read and heard so much about me that I am now used to it. Thanks to them, they have helped me develop a thick skin".

Relationship

I am married and my husband is Dutch. What I am doing is not alien to him or his family and he understands. I met him at a bar when he just came to Nigeria. We are happily married. Even before we got married, he understood my kind of person. He was aware of my vision. He has always been supportive. He just laughs whenever he comes across any of my pictures. It’s in Africa that we attach much importance to such things and consider it sacrilegious.

I am 31 and I had my daughter when I was 17. I do not think this is going to affect her in any way. If my mother did something like this; there is no way it would have affected me. My daughter is not even aware these nude pictures exist even though she has seen pictures of me in bikini. She is not even allowed access to the social media.

Even if she gets to view them eventually, it’s not going to mean anything to her because she has the European mentality. When my daughter is 18, then she can decide what she wants. Currently, she is under my care and I won’t let her do what I am doing.

Friendship

I have quite a few of them. Don Jazzy is my friend, Olamide and Phyno just to mention but a few. Gospel artistes? No, but I became a born-again Christian and decided that I wanted to continue with secular music. Whether people accept it or not, I am a born-again Christian and that is why I describe my music as honest music. I am not perfect but I’m just living my life in the best possible way.

Celebrities / Kcee Buys 2013 Toyota Camry For Limpopo Producer - Del'b by ventnaija: 3:07pm On Jan 04, 2014

One of the major problems in the music industry is that artists are said not to be grateful to the producers who produced the hit songs that made them multimillionaires by rewarding them with cash and material gifts.

Popular examples of artists who fell out with their producers include Yahoozee singer Olu Maintain and the producer of Ya – hoozee, Puffy Tee. And if ever there was an artist that should have generously rewarded his producer, it was supposed to be Olu because Puffy produced Yahoozee for him free as Olu was flat broke. He was so broke that Puffy once told this reporter that “before we produced Yahoozee, I was virtually taking care of Olu. I remember there was a day I had just N200 on me and we shared it together.”

So when Yahoozee blew worldwide and made Olu into a multimillionaire, Puffy expected that he would compensate him with some few millions, but shockingly, Olu refused to give him anything and he and Puffy just had to part ways.

Another recent case of artist who is no longer on terms with the producer that made him into a superstar is Iyanya. D’Tunes, the producer of his biggest hits, Kukere especially, and Ur Waist, Flavour, etc, is said to have told Iyanya that he wanted to open a state-of-the-art studio and Iyanya gave him just N500,000 when he needed millions so they stopped seeing eye-to-eye.

Limpopo singer, Kcee, is however proving to be different from the norm. Before Limpopo became a nationwide hit, he wasn’t really respected in the music industry. Limpopo’s success however brought him the music success he had been searching for, for years, and he has proved to be the contrary to the norm as he just bought a Toyota Camry for Limpopo’s producer, Del B, in appreciation.

Michael Jackson's daughter Paris Jackson, 15 just spent the Christmas holiday in Hawaii with her family and she posted a swim suit snap of herself on Instagram and captioned the snap 'bathing suit' as she holds her hand on her hip whilst wearing the monochrome two-piece.

A source told E! News that Michael Jackson's daughter returned to grandmother Katherine Jackson's home in Calabasas, California, on Tuesday - her first time back since she was hospitalized following her reported suicide attempt in June.

Paris will be staying there for at least a few days to mark the beginning of 2014, the source said. And both the relaxing vacation and return to her grandmother's appears to have done wonders for the young woman, who looks healthy and happy in the Instagram picture.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has responded to the 17 page letter written to him by President Goodluck Jonathan. Obasanjo who replied through his aide, Tunde Oladunjoye during a press conference held at his Hilltop residence, Abeokuta,

Ogun State noted that pressure has been mounted on him by local and foreign media to reply Jonathan back, but he will do no such thing.

“Since the publication of the letter written by the President, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we have received several requests from local and international media asking to know Chief Obasanjo’s reaction to Mr. President’s response”, Mr Tunde stated.

He noted that he had received the letter from Mr. Jonathan, “however, Baba as he already indicated in his December 2, 2013 letter does not wish to make further comments beyond the contents of the last letter to Mr President or react to the said letter/response from Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan”.

Obasanjo stated that what he wrote to Mr President was his duty to him and to the country. “I will maintain my serenity, because by this letter, I have done my duty to you as I have always done, to your government, to the party, PDP, and to our country, Nigeria”, he said.

Jonathan had replied Obasanjo and defending himself of allegations raised in the former President letter to him. He noted that he had to reply so that Nigerians do not believe what the latter wrote. Writing as a man deeply pained; he berated Obasanjo who led before him, but has made the public believe that Nigeria problem began from his inception as President in 2011.

Politics / Read President Jonathan’s Christmas Message To The Nation by ventnaija: 3:16pm On Dec 24, 2013

Dear Compatriots, I greet and felicitate with you all as we celebrate Christmas once again. I join our Christian compatriots and all other Nigerians in giving thanks to God Almighty whose Grace and Benevolence has helped our nation to overcome the many challenges it has had since we celebrated Christmas last year.

The annual commemoration of the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ is a most auspicious time for us, as individuals and as a nation, to rededicate ourselves to the virtues and ideals which the Messiah preached and exemplified during his earthly ministry.

Let us all therefore resolve this Christmas to make the ideals of peace, harmony, tolerance, love and goodwill to all even more manifest in our interactions with others.

It remains my sincere belief that no height of human accomplishment is beyond us as a nation, if we can overcome our differences, such as they are, and forge a binding national consensus to put the progress and well-being of the country above all other considerations.

My administration will do all within its powers and abilities to ensure that when representatives of our people assemble for the forthcoming national conference next year, they will have every opportunity and encouragement to make very significant contributions towards forging the required consensus for sustained national peace, unity and progress.

It is also my expectation that the national conference will contribute in no small measure towards the urgent resolution of contentious issues which currently hinder our progress as a nation.

With God Almighty as our Guide, Strength and Enabler, My Administration will continue to implement its Agenda for National Transformation in furtherance of its avowed commitment to improving the living conditions of all Nigerians.

We will continue to count on the prayers, support and cooperation of all patriotic Nigerians in the coming year as we consolidate and build on our achievements in several sectors including national security, power supply, communications, transportation, health and education.

As we commemorate the birth of the Prince of Peace, let us all strive to honour Him more by living our lives as He taught; by making personal sacrifices for the good of others, by showing greater love for others, by being fairer and more honest in our dealings with others, by being ever-willing to forgive those who offend us and by always extending goodwill towards others.

On behalf of myself, my family and the Federal Government, I wish you all very joyful Christmas celebrations, and a peaceful and prosperous 2014.

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
President,

Federal Republic of Nigeria

Education / SSANU Has Threaten To Strike Over Implementation Of Needs Assessment Report by ventnaija: 5:01pm On Dec 18, 2013

Just after the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU called off its six-month-old strike, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), yesterday threatened to embark on a nationwide strike should the federal government implement the report by the committee on the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Public Universities.

Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State, at a public lecture organised on the report at the University of Ilorin, the National Vice-President of SSANU, Alfred Jimoh, said the needs assessment report contained recommendations that non-teaching staff in public universities should be downsized.

“The Professor Mahmud-led committee also suggested that a situation whereby the number of non-teaching staff is more than the teaching staff in Nigerian universities is an aberration,” he said.

Jimoh, who said the report which the committee constituted without a member of non-teaching staff “could not have done anything better than to exhibit age-long disdain for the non-teaching staff in the system as exemplified in the report, thereby putting non-teaching staff jobs on the line.

“Suffice it to inform that the unemployment market in Nigeria may be witnessing another increase if the federal and state governments are deceived into laying off the non-teaching staff in Nigerian universities under the guise of ‘halting artificial growth in the system.

“It is a norm to have more non-teaching staff in the university than teaching staff,” Jimoh said, adding that there could not be any meaningful academic activity such as qualitative teaching and research as contained in the nature of job and services provided by non-teaching staff.”

The non-teaching staff unions (NAAT, NASU, SSANU) also said the report of the committee on Needs Assessment of Nigerian Public Universities should be dismissed and rejected, as they refrained their members from associating with any parts thereof.

Celebrities / Reader's Question: How Do Guys Feel After Breakups? by ventnaija: 10:04am On Nov 26, 2013

Unlike women who talk about their breakups all the time to the entire world, I noticed guys don't really share feelings about breakups. Like they don't feel hurt or sad after a breakup.

Don't they ever get upset in any way? Or is it just goodbye, easy, on to the next?

Do they share with their guy friends or just keep it to themselves?
