Lol, there is nothing like witches or wizard. Only in nigeria people pray just to get visa.

I won't say there are regrets instead, I see all as challenges in my learning curve. Below are highlights of MY PERSONAL OPINIONS for a new entrant like you.

*Agriculture is very profitable. It is one of the few sectors that can give you over 300% ROI annually if well-planned and implemented. For example, I cultivated hybrid tomatoes earlier this year on 3plots with a tight budget of less than #420,000 (including depreciation on fixed assets) and made over #1.3m as revenue within 4months. How many businesses can boast of such ROI?

*Flexibility of work calendar is very important. In fact, it is important for every business in Nigeria because of inconsistencies in government policies. Imagine what will happen to local rice farmers now that the government is lifting the FOREX ban. Flexibility gives room for the revocability of poor decisions and creates allowance for plans b, c, d, etc.

*Farm when others are resting and vice versa. Your farm's high profitability is anchored on targeting scarcity seasons. This is where a lot of farmers are missing it and where the money lies.

*Start small and grow over time as you gain core competency. Don't be deceived by any consultant telling you to test the waters with both feet. There SHALL always be factors beyond the control of your consultants. Challenges are easier to tackle on a small scale compared to a large scale.
For example, my water source(borehole) developed issues just recently in the middle of production. With 2 different batches of young cucumber seedlings on 1acre, it was a herculean task sourcing for water from neighbors to wet them while my water was being fixed. If I had cultivated the whole area of land, it would have been a mess.

*Small is very profitable. Agriculture is "the more you look, the less you see". Most times, you achieve more results on a smaller area of land over a larger land mass. Smaller area is easier to manage except when a solid organizational structure is in place.

*Do not be afraid of challenges because they'll always come up to help you gain more experience. Your perseverance will surely be tested.

*Network with like-minded successful farmers/consultants within your location. This will help you avoid many costly mistakes that will affect your business growth.

*Most importantly if you are religious, hold onto your God zealously because you may need divine peace at times to calm your nerves and protection against the unseen.
Thanks boss I really appreciate this information. I have one more question, how profitable is greenhouse organic crops? Because I know it is sold to big supermarket unlike the normal grown crops which is sold at the market.

I also suggested a concrete structure but seems he prefer the container.

Seems you know this location well because Ogun State seems to be the headquarters of land-grabbers in the Southwest.

They will finish selling and still come back to collect their land violently or diabolically. Some will complete payment for land and forget they ever bought the land because their memory of the transactions have been formatted diabolically.

Ogun State land matter na for who get double liver.
Please can you tell me your regret since you started agriculture business. Most of the agricultural consultants I’m meeting don’t look like they are making money from agriculture and that is giving me a sleepless night. Because how can someone said I will make millions doing something and the person is not making millions themselves or maybe my expectations are high
AgricultureRe: Help Me Choose A Farm Lodge Accommodation (pictures) by VerifiedGrace(op): 9:45pm On Nov 15, 2023
Thanks to everyone, no one dare to sell my land but that is a story for another day. Even if any Fulani herdsmen trespasses on my farm they will be shoot dead on sight. I think I will go for the concrete building instead of the container. I still want to build another house on the farm land later if I see that the business is lucrative because everyone I know has been warning me not to invest in agriculture but I will still try. Although some people on this forum make it look easy but they never showed end result, for example some consultant showed one can make millions from plantain farming but will only show maybe 5 bunch of plantain as harvest and I wonder if that is how they make their millions. But anyway I will be investing in organic green house crop such as tomatoes, pepper, bell pepper, cabbage and cucumber using 5 acres and the remaining acres of land for forage and livestock farming such as goat, sheep, cow, snail and goose

What if you travel for weekend and come back only to discover your container home has been relocated grin?

I'm jusst asking biko.
I will buy 2 large Rottweiler, the land will be fenced and gated so that nobody has access to the compound apart from me and Someone who I will employ when I’m not around to take care of the dogs.

Building a concrete house may be better because you can have an office attached for official engagements. Also, depreciation on the container house will be more rapid than that of a brick house.

Where at Owode Egba is the proposed farm location? I also run a farm very close to Owode town (Siun axis).
The village is called Abule Otun inside inside far from owode egba. My farm land will have my warehouse and office building, I was only thinking of using the land I have in owode egba for the container building so that I can stay there anytime I’m around I would not like to build a house I don’t stay often and I don’t like the idea of tenants living with me.

Yes I’m doing it for profit because it is my investment. Giving back to the community is my plan to provide the kids with educational materials, renovation of the community school toilet and provide the community with clean borehole water powered by solar

Hmmm that is still a long ride toll and fro ... If they are communities within the farm area ... It is better you build around there and install solar systems ...so you won't be in an hurry to leave ...most importantly ensure the area is safe ...
Only the town I’m sure is a safe area and compared to driving from Lekki down to the farm which will be a little bit stressful, it’s better I drive 1hr 30m from the town to the farm since its only when I wanted to visit the farm and I also have a beast pick up truck that makes it easy for me.
AgricultureRe: Help Me Choose A Farm Lodge Accommodation (pictures) by VerifiedGrace(op): 10:53am On Nov 12, 2023
Babangidapikin:
What about security are you still going to build a small wall around it
Yes I’m going to fence the land and also install security gate. Where the one plot of land is located is in the town of owode egba and not the outskirt. It is just an accommodation for me to stay anytime I’m visiting the farm. The farm land is 1hr 30m drive from the town.

I prefer the container house cos it is movable just in case you change your mind in the future.

I just hope they will not move you with your container one day while asleep. grin

Hello house, thanks to everyone that contributed to my recent post about choosing between 20 tons gas plant or agricultural business. I have decided to go with farming to add more value to our country and give back to the community. I’m in the middle of negotiation to buy 50 acres of farm land in Ogun state for green house organic crop farming , goat, cattle and snail farming. But the issue I’m having right now is that living here in Lekki Lagos and going to my farm can be a bit stressful, so I decided to buy one plot of land in owode egba which is closer to the farm land. Now I’m thinking of a simple container house since I will only be staying there anytime I visit the farm, but someone is advising me to build a 2 bedrooms which I don’t think it is necessary. The container and the interior fixtures cost 7m which is slightly negotiable , attach is the pictures of the container tiny home. I will appreciate if anyone can advise me on which one to go for. Thanks in advance

You could also consider splitting…

Or diversifying your capital if you like by investing in both.

Both are good businesses if you make your due diligence in terms of research.

Livestock business is associated with a lot of risks so you may invest gradually or start small until you learn the ropes and feel more comfortable to infuse more capital. But if you get it right you will never regret it. Agriculture is the next big thing.

Gas on the other hand involves a lot of procedures, processes and approvals. Buying products too can be tricky. Sometimes you may even need connection to get products. Gas doesn’t spoil but you need to make research also on a good location. It involves a lot it is Not just buying and selling. It ain’t also risk free.

In the end 100 million is huge amount to invest.

Try not to put all your eggs in a basket!
Thanks for your input, exactly my point gas is not just about buying and selling like people make it sound like something very easy once you have capital. Location really matters and the location of my choice which will get approved faster cost 75% of my capital and that is why I’m looking into Agriculture business because location does not really matter if one has a means of transportation Which is not a problem.

Why can't you plant tree crops and farm, an acre if palm kernel will give you about 18 tonnes yearly or more but that's the least, a tonne of palm oil currently is around 3million, imagine you multiply 18 times 3, that's around 54 million naira yearly. Most of those in Forbes list are crazy farmer and most are palm oil tycoon. I don't know why most Nigerian are leaving farming yet we claim we need to export to make naira fall but if we don't farm, what do we export?
Thanks for the input, but your analysis is somehow confusing because a ton of palm oil is not 3m and I don’t think I can get 18 tons of palm oil on 1 acre of land. I already made a little research about the palm oil plantation and I can see it’s profitable. I’m already in negotiation with a village chief in ogun state to sell 100 acres of land for me for 20m but I’m still thinking either to do the plantation on the 100 acres or imported breed goat farming. Using 20 acres for the goats housing, wearhouse and farm equipment and the remaining 80 acres to plant the goats food.

Hello house, I’m about starting a business but don’t know which to go for and it has been giving me a sleepless night due to this current inflation. The first business is a 30 tons gas plant on a 3 plots of land which everything and the building might cost 100m and second business option is buying plenty acres of land for integrated live stock farming since food is essential and people might decide not to buy gas due to the high cost of living. Please I will like the experience people in the house to enlighten me because I don’t even know which one to go for although money is not a problem but I have to choose one. Thanks in advance
