Anything that can effectively provide cashflow is an asset.
Ask your bank why they provide a financial facility to ELIGIBLE persons to get a car or a house. That's becuase they know there will be cashflow. In this case, the cashflow for a commercial vehicle is the weekly payments agreed between the driver and the car owner.
Collecting an upfront payment for taking a car is dependent on the car owner but I'll add further, that it's wise as this still serves as rent for taking up that car.
Because we lack responsibility in this part of the world, no one will be willing to pay a caution fee which should be standard. Therefore, if a car owner asks for a week's payment upfront before a car is given, I think that's a fair deal since you still expect the owner, just as a landlord fixes his property when there is a deficiency on the property, to fix his vehicle when there is a deficiency on the vehicle.
Anyways, what do I know? Standards and values count for nothing in Nigeria and that's why businesses fail because no one wants to bear some sense of responsibility in order to reduce risk for the capitalist whose funds is actually driving the business.
In the future, there will be AI driven cars. What happens to the human factor, which is the driver, when that happens? Can he be able to arrange the funds required to get his own AI driven vehicle?
I trust technology in the end. It will sort a lot of these arguments out. The west runs and breeds on the life blood of capitalism and that's why they have better economies today. We will get there and soon, we will have new arguments but finance will always be a constant. I hope we can all brace for changes when they finally happen because our sentiments will get us nowhere when push comes to shove.
That's my little opinion and I do hope it's useful to someone, somewhere , maybe today or someday later. |

pocohantas: All the women that have been decommissioning intelligent, career minded and independent young men nko?
Those women that have been telling men "I missed my period, so what are we going to do now?". Why are we acting like decommissioning started today?
Abeg, humans are wicked, these guys wicked. No need to play victim, it is advisable you be very selfish. If you are old enough to have sex, then you should know safe sex. You should protect yourself...
An intelligent , career minded and independent woman who doesn't know the above is an endtime one.
Abeg, nobody should quote me. I am suffering from heartbreak. Nice one, Poco!!! Who or wetin cause the heartbreak? Maybe I can help soothe your nerves in these trying times. |

TheCar: Why do car owners collect security deposit?
Do can't drivers make upfront payment for rentals?
Why can't we get credit score for drivers who want postpaid service?
Why can't we vehicle inspection center?
When we asked the right questions, we get the right answers, with the right answers we make progress.
Why do car owners collect security deposit?
Security deposit arises when the rate of payment defualt sky-rocketed. We wouldn't have a security deposit if drivers start making upfront payment.
Rental payments are supposed to be upfront payment. I don't know who started this idea of car owners collecting rental after instead of before?
Why can't drivers make upfront payment for rentals?
After you have inspect the car and confirmed that it's a good mechanical condition and good for business, what stops you from making upfront payment.
We do house inspection before renting an apartment. Why do we make payment upfront for rented apartment? Why don't we start a crusade to start making house rental postpaid.
Why can't we have a CREDIT BUREAU to enable an investor get a credit score of a driver who want postpaid service?
Before any financial house extend any credit to you, they do customer profiling and ensure you have the capabilities to repay before giving you such money. Why don't we have such agency in Car-Owner/Driver relationship. Since a driver is only interested in paying after collecting the car, how do the car owner ensure such driver make payment as at when due.
Why can't we have vehicle inspection center?
Why can't driver-partner form an association, then agree to appoint any choose auto repair centre as inspection centre for their members. Cars need to be certified okay before any member collect it on rental.
Why can't driver-partner make upfront rental payment? Bus and Kabukabu drivers pay upfront to rent batteries daily. I don't see what's wrong with paying upfront to RENT a car. |

naifizzy: Thanx but it is only wise to have a driver database before having riders on ground.
What sense will it make if we have 100 riders and no Drivers?
That is why we are opening up to have at least 200 Drivers before we commercially launch to the public. I agree |

naifizzy: What sentiments?
You need to ask yourself. What are the duties of the e-hailing platforms?
Everything is run by programming. The major work is done when making updates to improve the platform.
I am an IT professional and a google partner. I know a whole lot more about networking than you I suppose.
You need to remove the hurdles from your mindset and begin to see things more objectively.
When you search a word in google no one lifts a pen in Google office.
With social media and less nay-sayers publicity and adverts wont be a problem.
I dont need to run an ad on TV or Radio which will cost millions....
I have about 46 Drivers and I haven't spent a dime yet.
You need to start believing. I hope you do stand the test of time. I'm praying hard that you do. Cars45 started small but they are growing into the Nigerian market. I hope you are registered as an approved entity to do business in Nigeria. I also hope you have factored in the regulatory aspect of the industry you're walking into. The government will be on you once you begin to attract some success. Lastly, I hope you have a team of professionals around your business system. I mean your lawyer or lawyers, accountants and tax persons. You know this isn't child's play and not some one room startup biz. Your competition has the clout to twist the arm of the government to crush you. I hope all these have been factored in. I really want you to succeed. I really do. I hate monopoly and where markets have been decentralized, the mass public gains the most. Please work on your team and your legal status if not ready at the moment. As I said before, I want you to succeed. There can never be one way of doing business in every industry at any time. There always has to be variety. That's why I want you to succeed. |
